Beta testing is run on the "Test" server.

You must run a specific install of the CoX software that accesses the Test Server.

Bill Z Bubba gave a link to instructions for setting up TEST server installation.
4 posts above your last post. . . . 5 posts above this one.

ETA: There also is a forum specifically for the Test Server . . . Training room.
When it is not being used for specific betas, anyone can get on Test, to try out powers or builds, or whatever.

    Holy Newsflash!!

    Sort of thanks for that.
A lot of us do know to research where we can to research those changes that have happened since the guides have aged.

But if you know how the guides go ....
you know that you have to take what you get in those guides.

While this one is aged, it appears to be the most recent.
Please point out any more recent SS/Elec if you think there is any better than this!
  3. Thanks for the guide, I.T. !

    A question
    CJ . . . I see you didn't slot it.

If you had the vet reward, and
If you didn't have to take CJ to get SJ,
    would you still take CJ?

If not, what would you fit into the build instead?

Do not ask me. I use it constantly.

I gave up Credit cards, and their practices and the usury they charge, years ago, and have been ever so much happier with PayPal.

We could start a test for bad stories about Paypal and any Credit Card company, and see which gets more hatemail. (only from people who have actually used the services . . . )

  5. Fun, fun fun!

and I love how it uses the same turns, and turn and face the camera in reverse mode too, like walk does.
    .
  6. Hmmm. I have pretty much always liked the level of time/difficulty it takes to get one of my alts to 50.
Long enough to make some new friends, and long enough to feel accomplishment.
Short enough that I seldom feel too bored or tired of running in a hamster wheel.

    1. There are BigMMOs that just seem to take forever to get to the LevelCap. and so much farming or fishing or crafting and lootbreaking to make you spin your tires, and slow ya down. . . .But then you make it to the top! Ooops, they moved the levelcap again, and now you have to hop back on the treadmill again. . . . I don't tend to make a lot of different alts in those. It would mean I don't have the shiniest lewt on my main guy, and he has to be as big and shiny as I can make him.
    2. Then, back in my misspent youth, I used to spend hours and hours, and lots of quarters on games like THIS, or THIS, in the arcades . . . I spent so much time and money, and played games over and over, till I could be one of the best, or reach the end. And I would finally finish, or lose all my lives, and . . . pop another quarter and start it all over again.
The first, I might play a long time, but finally, tired of my main and the treadmill, I tend to start playing less and less, and finally drop. A new alt doesn't help. so hopelessly behind my main, and the other big kids, anfd I just finally quit.

The 2nd, the arcades? Yeah, I got my instant fix and played them several times start to finish each outing, but in the end, getting to play PC or Nintendo, etc., without constantly having to pop over to get a new pocketful of quarters, drew me away.

"This bed is too Hard!" she said.
"This one is too soft!" the muffled remark came.
Goldilocks smiled, "Finally. This one's just right"
For me, CoX is the one that is just right.

    Not too short
    Not too endless.

I don't have to farm for l33t3r lewt if I don't want to.
I can work reasonably hard and top up a 50 in a 'just right' timeframe.
I can feel comfortable playing other alts at the same time I am taking him to 50, or while I play him post-50.

Or I can put that 50 on the shelf, create a new alt with a new AT, and/or a cool new concept/costume I have been planning for a while.
I can leave the 50 for months at a time, and come back and play that same alt, maybe with some new content or features, but STILL at the Top. I don't have to catch up to the levelcap again

I can do and have done all these things. and will continue.

    Comfortable. just right. Fun!

  7. Who are you people anyway?
    Lisa Douglas from Green Acres?

She hated 'Hootersville', and longed to be back in New York.

    • If you don't like Hooterville, Don't live there.
    • Move, or move back to NY!
    • If you are too cheap or just don't wanna, You don't even have to move alts to the high pop servers.
    • Just create, or re-create new alts in NY and there you are!

    • Do NOT say "Let's combine Hooterville, Mayberry and Smallville, so I can be happy in the city!"
    • The people in Hooterville, Mayberry and Smallville, LIKE their little towns
    • If they didn't they would already have gotten smart, and moved to the big city.
    • They are HAPPY! Quit trying to muck up their small towns!

    • Don't expect the Guvamint to pay for your move to Gotham!
    • Just move there! or grow new alts there. You will make better friends by growing and teaming there, than just popping out in all your 50dom, anyway!
    • Supes did NOT try to make Smallville into Metropolis.
When he wanted Metropolis, he just went there!
      Go and do likewise.
The answer to the problem you claim you have, is already available. . .
    Right here in the game!
Quit trying to make the devs and everyone else work so hard to change, just to make you happy!

    That would be really petty.

YOU have the power to fix it. Move. Use that power.

Please, feel free to take the Open Challenge that Westley has issued.

I, like him have never found it difficult to get a team on ANY server, and I play them all.

I suggest any of you who teams don't like, try this also.
If nothing else, you will know how to do it after he shows you.

Perhaps you simply should ask him why (withOUT the sarcasm-slash-suspicion).

My guess is that he really is not confident that he could easily form a good team if he has to try it on a level 1 alt.
I believe there are servers he does not have villains on at the moment, and would have to run a newly created one.

Don't look at it that way. I don't.
    • Sometimes, there are dead horse topics, that keep being brought up, over and over and over and over
    • If posters search (as we are supposed to), then they will find if an idea has already discussed to death, and would just be another drama fest if posted again.
    • Cut and pastes, and quick decisive answers, are not just to grind the poster into the ground.
Instead, they are to stop the dead horse from getting up steam again.

As Barney Fife would say, "We've gotta nip it in the bud! . . . Nip it . . . in the bud!".

In my opinion, saying KB wiped a team is no different than saying that the team composition or the team member builds wiped the team. Or team skill in dealing with knockback. I am a consistent enemy of the playstyle and build police, but I have no problem using their tactics against them. If someone tells me my KB is hurting their play, I'll tell them their incompetence in dealing with KB is hurting my play.

Frankly, if it was up to me, I would sooner eliminate all *non-KB* options than all the KB powers. In fact, knowing what I know now, in retrospect I would make all AoE damage deal knockback, and all powers above a certain DPA threshold deal mandatory knockback. That would be a deliberate shot across the bow of the efficiency police, and it would simultaneously resolve the problem with AoE balance in this game.
    /signed also.
And Oh my! I was so tempted to say "To heck with the consequences", and just say "/jranger" to the OP.

There are so many reasons to just say no to the OPs suggestion.
And pretty much NO reason to say yes to the ability to nerf another players powers against enemies, no matter what those powers may be.

Bottom line: You ALREADY have the power to not have PowerSet-X on your team.
    • If you are NOT the leader, quit.
    • If you ARE the leader, you have the ability to kick the players with that powerset!
I would like it to be obvious that you do that, when you do, though.
Even if I am not the one with that powerset, I want to know it if the leader is so intolerant, or so incompetent that they cannot adapt to different team makeup.

So I can notice that, and leave the team too.
    .
  17. I understand why this can be attractive.

For me, I prefer to stay with the easy to use third party team chat clients.

    I play in two locations:
    • At work.
    • In the living room with my family where we socialize or watch TV.
I do NOT want to feel pressure to be speaking aloud to my teams in either of these environments.
If it were built in to the game, I know that I would feel that pressure.

As far as I have seen, almost all my alts do the 3.09 mph walk.

But RoseRoxx, my 50 tanker does 1.75 mph.

But I guess that was to be expected . . .
    She IS a Stone tanker.

ETA: Hmm. went back to look. Rose IS one of my alts that is more heavily IO set slotted.
and being a Stone tank, I specifically went for several of the IO bonuses that give "Improved Run Speed". Could these IO bonuses be working in reverse, or being subtracted, during Walk?

    I suppose I better /bug that.

    Probably not.
    • Now that they have a working version, I expect going back and re-animating it all would be way down the priority list.
    • It actually IS normal . . . physically accurate . . . IF the walker is wearing tall heels.
    • from the several threads on this topic so far, almost everyone... male and female, has expressed approval of the female walk.
What you may be experiencing . . . might be because you are viewing the walk on a very short character.
Some people have commented on that difference.
The sway does seem more extreme on smaller bodies.
This is because matching the walk to realistic movement per footstep to the same speed per hour, requires more steps, or faster steps, or bigger steps, when the legs are shorter.
    • If you wanted to drop the 3.09 mph speed that everyone has now, for shorter characters, then the larger sway could probably be solved.
    • But I think most would not prefer to walk slower just because they are shorter.
    • And I expect it would probably be more trouble than it is worth to code the lower mph for shorter people, for a simple but fun fluff power.

  24. Yay! Much Fun!

Yes, I know there are people that always whine loudly about any change if it is not their pet change!
I have a friend who complains every day about any change the local government does, no matter how good that change is with "They could have used that money to feed the poor!"

The Mass transit system will be expanded to create jobs and improve the economy for all!
"They could have used that money to feed the poor!"

When they talk about the schedule for putting up the town Christmas lights . . .
"They could have used that money to feed the poor!"
(Yes, they would rather that all of us have a dreary holiday, all of us rich and poor rather than the few meals that could be supplied. Never mind that the celebration and lights actually will put more people in the mood to donate to feeding the poor.)

Sorry, if someone didn't get their difficult-to-implement favorite fix made, when this easy QoL fix was put in.
    • People have been asking for Walk (just for the fun of it) for YEARS!
    • It was easy to do.
    • They did it.
    • Get over it.
    • Just Walk away.
