  1. I would very much disapprove of collecting interest, the game does NOT need more ways to generate inf.
  2. Yeah, I was noticing that. I made 11 on a team, and I'm going through a bunch of slotting of level 13-14 IOs, mostly dual/triple-aspect. I'm actually slotting stuff from stun sets and the like rather than melee damage because, well, I have plenty of damage, what I want is +acc, -end, -rchg.

One more run of running around and I should be able to find a kismet +6% accuracy to slot in one of my basic defense toggles, which would help a lot. Right now, the biggest endurance drain I have by far is missing.
  3. Yeah. Dark's great, I've just already got one.

Level 8 now, and OMG the lack of blue. I may shelve this until I19.

Okay. So pick powers you don't want, and ignore them. Just treat them like, say, any powers you get as inherents from booster packs or something. Sure, all of my characters have a Self Destruct button available, but that doesn't mean that, in-character, any of them can "self destruct".
  5. In the grand tradition of people who ask for advice on the forums, I went WM/SD.

Basically, while I was messing around in the costume thing, an idea hit me.

Only level 4 so far, but having a lot of fun. I think my previous attempts, I didn't understand fury, and my usual play style of waiting for health before continuing worked really poorly.
  6. Boy, that's an interesting choice -- I'm not sure how I feel about "squishy".

If it weren't for all the people saying it sucks, I'd be tempted by energy aura -- for historical reasons, I love having stealth powers, even when I'm on a character who has no reason to use them. :P

Looks like I'll be stuck in the character creator for the rest of the day.

How, specifically? Do they key off a specific color in a specific power? Do both hellfire pets key off the same color, or can they be different?
  8. I get paralysis when I have too many choices. You should see me trying to eat in a restaurant I've never been in before, it's amazing. (If I've been there before, I get the thing I had last time, so I can eat in predictably-finite time.)
  9. I think Brute is the only AT left I haven't gotten past at least 10-12th level -- I just never seem to have good ideas for them or anything.

So. I want to try out the Brute Experience. What powers should I take? How should I play it? What will give me a really good sense of the archetypal Brute?

    FWIW:
    * I have a dark/dark tanker, who's fun -- but as a side effect, I'd sorta prefer to stay AWAY from dark/dark if I can for Brute, just for the variety.
    * I have a KM/Nin stalker, so likewise, I'd slightly prefer to avoid KM.
  10. To be picky, we get three more slots -- the freebie slot in each power.

On some characters, I'll be taking fitness powers -- as in, I don't have them now, so it doesn't open anything up.

My dark/dark defender, I'm not sure yet -- I was thinking of sticking with utility powers like TP foe, but there's some temptation to look at medicine (for out-of-combat heals or rez), or at leadership, which I think she's a bit light on.

My traps/sonic hasn't taken fitness yet, and probably won't unless things change a lot at higher levels -- as long as I'm grouped, I have no problems.
  11. It was exactly the shape and behavior of the normal hellfire flames, and they didn't have the usual red/black stuff.

Wonder if it was maybe some kind of bug.
  12. So, I have a demons MM. I have two hellfire demons -- a big one and a little one. They are black and red.

My traps/sonic defender was on a mission team with a demons/something MM. The demons looked identical to the ones I'm used to.

Then another MM joined our team... and the hellfire demons, both the big and little one, were wreathed in bright purple -- 0xff00ff, seriously.

...Does this imply that there is a way to use power colors to influence the appearance of the pets? If so, what is it, and how does it work?

(edit: i can remember what order RGB goes in, really)
  13. I19: In order to address QQ from their respective forum communities, Blizzard and Paragon announce a trade. Stalkers become Rogues, and Rogues become Stalkers.
  14. This is a really interesting topic to me. I was totally shocked when I found out that paid-for things gave real in-game advantages -- I came to this game used to a firm policy that there would be no mechanical advantage to any optional/paid stuff. Here, you pay for character slots, you pay for special powers, and so on.

But honestly, by month 3 or so of some character slots, they're cheaper than paying for multiple accounts was.

I guess I'm still torn on the issue. I sort of dislike the idea that people with more money get advantages. However, the advantages seem to be pretty much cosmetic/convenience; there's not much of a difference in real in-mission capabilities, mostly just in how much time you spend between missions. And I guess I can live with that.

The "right" business model for MMOs is not something we can necessarily find or define; it comes down to "pay for what you want to pay for". I'm okay with paying for booster packs, at least sometimes, so I pay for them. If none of us paid for them, there wouldn't be more than the first one.
  15. Yah. I've played CoH on four machines, and the only reason I haven't tried on my netbook is that I doubt it'd work. But maybe it would, and it'd actually be pretty good for marketeering.

    Best server??

    On Virtue:
I occasionally see people looking for an "ae team", but I don't really care, they don't seem to harm me or get in my way. Sometimes they're funny. I haven't had much trouble with incompetent players, except for Super Famous Guy. (If you don't know who I mean, don't worry -- if you play on Virtue, you'll find out. Can he interest you in a sg?)
  17. My impression has been that a lot of displays like that just plain aren't fast enough for real usage, but I can't guarantee it.

My solution involved one of those little portable DVD players.
  18. I'm pretty sure, if I were Castle, I wouldn't change them.

I base this on the observation that they seem to be unchanged.

The question might be "if Castle were me, how would he change Stalkers", and I think the answer to that would probably be some kind of tweak to the assassin's strike debuff, and/or possibly a better way to lose aggro -- say, something like "if you can break line of sight for N seconds, you lose aggro".
  19. If you have extra respecs (vetspecs, freespecs), once you've got nova form, you can start slotting the nova form powers at level 3 on a respec, giving you four more slots for them.

And you can do pretty well for teams just floating around in nova form, being an extra blaster, until you're ready to go be all things to all people. No one seems to object at all to having me fly around killing everything for them.
  20. So, was on a mission team for a bit yesterday with two masterminds.

You know how, when you have a Kheldian, you get occasional Quantums, and if you have multiple Kheldians, you get more of them?

I am now convinced that masterminds are likewise given missions with extra narrow doorways.
  21. Woah. That would never have occurred to me (the thumb drive thing), but obviously flash media are now cheap enough that this is practical.

    Sorta scary.

I think that's been one of the biggest things about this game for me. In another MMO I used to play, I'd Learn The Fight, on whatever character got there first, and then I Knew The Fight. It would not be different in other roles; I mean, the details would be different, but I'd always know what the details were for all three roles, there were only three roles, and you always had to have roughly the same mix of roles to even have a reasonable shot at it. Unless it was content you outpowered, in which case there wasn't much strategy.

Here, every character I have plays substantially differently, which is a start, but it's also that every team I'm on plays differently. My traps/sonic def plays differently on a team with two tankers than on a team with no tankers. A LOT differently. A group with multiple controllers plays very differently from a group with multiple defenders, and that stays true no matter what role I'm playing. Scrapping with three defenders is not like scrapping with no defenders.

And that really does mean that there's a lot more new-experiences, even without more new-stories.

    Did you overpay?

Another thing that has happened to me when standing in a market is to suddenly be gifted with a very expensive item because the person was dragging it into the market window and dropped it on me by mistake. I will generally ask if they really meant to give me the item.... usually they did not. Surprisingly, this happens to me on a quite regular basis.
Happened to me last night, only it turned out it WAS intentional, someone was deleting a toon and just ditching stuff.

... Sadly, turned out neither recipe was worth crafting, in both cases, the price of the enhancement was about 1/4 the crafting cost. And neither was even worth selling. Ah, well. Happy vendor time!
  24. What do you think it would take to "fix" it?
  25. Okay, that division into three categories helps.

So, -KB IO, I want to be within three levels of the IO, but it doesn't matter what level the power is.

Kismet +acc, I need to be able to use the power, but it doesn't matter what level the IO is (except in terms of whether or not I could slot it.)

    Got it.
