Quote:And even with set bonuses... to-hit is multiplied by accuracy. You take a few to-hit debuffs, and they are multiplied by your accuracy in effect. If you have a total of 2.0x accuracy (+100%) on all your powers, and are to-hit debuffed to 40%, you're down to 80% chance to hit. If you have 1.5x accuracy, and are to-hit debuffed to 60%, you have a 90% chance to hit. If you have to-hit and to-hit-debuff resistance, you are more likely to be in the latter category or better off than that.Yeah, set bonuses can nullify the advantage of targeting drone. When will you be starting on those sets? TIll then, targeting drone gives you the ability to hit 95% of the time on even con enemies, even without accuracy slotting.
Quote:To me caltrops is really meh.
Quote:Smoke bomb, okish I guess.
Quote:But I find /devices extremely fun. Especially once you get powers like trip mine. Even if most of the set is meh or skippable, it's fun to use. And if ya want a blaster... let's face it, blasters don't get /traps. -
Pseudopets cause all sorts of problems for Real Numbers. Is Rain of fire really an accuracy 2.00 power? Why, yes, yes it is. It is very very likely to successfully summon its pseudopet. However, that pseudopet has only normal 1.00 accuracy unless you slot the power for accuracy. Does Poison Gas Trap autohit? Well, yes and no; the regen debuff does, the hold doesn't. I still can't find anything that'll tell me whether PGT gives me 10 seconds of regen debuff and then it's done debuffing, or whether there's a persistant cloud that keeps giving out those 10 second regen debuffs, or what. Except experimenting, which I guess is valid.

I seem to recall that TD gives some to-hit debuff resistance.
Ultimately... Yeah, Traps can do some amazing things. But /dev might fit a character's theme better. Theme is more important than power. I have a traps/dp and a dp/dev, and they are very different characters... and thus far, the dp/dev is probably more fun. -
Could be. Is that, in fact, being enhanced by teleportation range powers? If I three-slot it for range with level 50 IOs, will I get a 40-foot spread of team mates instead of a 25-foot?

I think you're missing a key point:
Superhero comics.
It's the genre. It isn't about realism. I wouldn't mind if the boob slider went smaller, but the fact is, this is a genre trope, and we're about as likely to see the ridiculously giant boobs go away as we are to see the removal of capes and spandex with holes in it. -
According to some of the commentors on my /dev guide, the -tohit from Smoke Grenade is *not* autohit, so keep that in mind if you're counting on it as part of your softcapping.

Honestly, while I love traps, and I love it a lot, there are times when I'd rather play a /dev blaster than a /traps corruptor.
Yeah, /dev is probably a bit weak, but it's a fun set, you can do things with it you can't do with any other blaster "secondary", and if it fits the theme of the character, go with it.
(That said, traps/dp corruptor would be a pretty close match, but it's not gonna be quite the same.) -
So, there's a lot of cases where Real Numbers are some combination of "totally useless" or "wrong" or whatever. e.g., the accuracy listed for Rain of Fire in Fire Blast is 2.00, but in fact, the pseudo-pet does not have an accuracy of 2.00, it has a normal accuracy of 1.00. Team Teleport says it's an effect with some radius, and a range of 25 feet, but in fact, the range is closer to 200 feet.
Questions:
1. Are these "bugs"? As in, is it conceivable that people at ncsoft/Paragon would consider a report of such a thing to be a bug report, and possibly fix it?
2. Is there a single canonical list of all the cases where the real numbers are Just Plain Wrong? -
It does help a lot. I'm still a bit unsure how to decide which powers I'll like (and I'm not a long-term vet who can just try everything and see), but I'll get around to levelling my poor litle WS someday.
-
No, so far as I know, /dev is working same as always. Web Grenade usually does 3,000 points of damage and is auto-hit, with an AoE mag 6 autohit stun. I don't think that's a change.
-
Sailor Bubba (I've met him at cons, that's his official name) is actually sorta awesome. Not quite as disturbing as Man Faye.
Anyway, I guess I'd rather see more costumes available for more types -- it's frustrating trying to find something that would be PERFECT for a costume, only to realize it's tied to the other gender for some reason. -
I posted a /devices guide in the last couple of days which talked specifically about DP, since my DP/dev blaster (now level 43) was the one I used to research /dev. I'm guessing people are reacting to the fact that my guide doesn't provide proposed sample builds.

Quote:Yup.To everyone criticizing the list because it doesnt apply to CoH, did you actually read the post...
CoH doesn't really rely on "the" tank, or the "main" tank, or indeed, tanking. Sure, it's a nice thing when it's available and works, but it's not really necessary, and it's not necessarily the case that the tank is "in charge" the way they typically would be in some MMOs. I usually view person-with-star as the closest a group has to the person in charge, and there's no reason that has to be a tank. In many groups, tactical decisions have been coming from, say, a troller or def. Or a scrapper, though usually only when the tactics are "punch dudes". -
Nice explanation. I knew it, but I didn't say it. I'll have to update that to explain it.
-
Wait, huh?
I thought the spawns from this were zone-level, not player-level. Sure seems that way so far -- I did a couple in KR and got level 6 spawns that were grey to me. -
Yeah. It was weird to me having a blaster that could solo at x4 without taking damage.
-
I have pursued an alternative strategy: I've stopped worrying about it, mostly. I'm having fun when I play, so I don't see a reason to worry about it.
-
I'd like to point out one exception to the general uselessness of any ammo but fire:
If you are playing in your role as a buffer/support character, the res and def debuffs from some attacks may be worth more than the bonus damage. If I can give several targets a 10% defense debuff, that may translate into quite a bit more damage than I would otherwise be doing even if incendiary rounds doubled my damage output.
So on my dp/dev blaster, I mostly use incendiary rounds and Just Kill. On my traps/dp defender, though, I am likely to mostly use standard rounds on a team, because the mix of effects is much more beneficial to my teammates, and they do a LOT more damage than I do. -
My experience is, for a spawn I can defeat with or without trip mines, one trip mine and a bunch of regular attacks is faster. For a spawn I can't actually defeat without trip mines, trip mines is infinitely faster even if it's slow. I am pretty sure I gain XP slightly faster if I just run at densities I can easily clear anyway.
Good point about the caltrops and trip mines. I've tended not to put trops on the mines too much because of the avoid, but a partial overlap is a good thought. I'll be updating this again "real soon now". -
Jazz, feel free to look people up in game if you want a hand with stuff, there's lots of friendly and chatty people. PM me your global and I'll send you a bit of extra inf to help out.

I am inexplicably reminded of an observation someone made about resumes, which is that it's always important to distinguish between ten years of experience and one year of experience ten times.

Quote:Okay, you're wrong because, in fact, at level 19 or 20, I run out of endurance less quickly than I used to. Even on characters who were taking Stamina, by level 19, I was consistently running out of endurance all the time. Now, I rarely run out of endurance that quickly.1) You can now take more attacks and defensive powers sooner. (You know, Those things that use up endurance)
2) You have the same number of enhancements to spread over more powers, reducing the amount of endurance reduction enhancements you can slot. (Well, you know, since it is almost a requirement on all AT's to slot 2 ACC enhancements on every attack if you hope to, you know, like, hit anything at all.)
3) Stamina, slotted with low level enhancements does little to overcome the drain added by #1 and #2
It really evens out at higher levels, but the endurance problem for low level characters has only been exacerbated by inherent fitness.
Now, everyone tell me why I'm wrong.
The possibility of running out of endurance has not been completely eliminated, but it happens more slowly. In particular, keep in mind that you are not required to mash every button that isn't dimmed. Look at the rotation you had pre-I19. Now do that exact same rotation, with no changes, in I19. You'll have substantially more endurance. All you're complaining about is that if you are spamming two more attacks, you might be able to run out of endurance still.
Slotting on Stamina is sort of a red herring; maximum benefit makes it under 100% better, so completely unslotted and unenhanced, it still gives you more than 50% what you'd get from Stamina 3-slotted with level 50 IOs.
Prior to level 20, pre-I19, you didn't have Stamina, so the maximum real difference is two power picks -- you could have two attacks or toggles, now, instead of putting those two slots into swift/hurdle and health. But even if you do, you are not required to actually use those powers all the time. Furthermore, Health means that you have better regeneration, and are thus in less danger of dying if you don't kill things quickly enough. -
Only crashes I've had, ever, on my Win 7 install of CoH are some kind of problem zoning into my SG base.

Quote:The third party is not the one "making it look like your IP address is different". The problem is that ncsoft (or their payment processor) is using a fundamentally broken service to attempt to guess where IP addresses are, even though IP does not work that way.So a third party (whoever is providing you with satellite internet) is making it look like your IP address is different from where you actually live, and you choose to blame NCSoft for their actions . . . Never occured to you to go after the jerks at the satellite internet provider that are causing the problem.
There are millions of IP addresses out there which do not have any obvious way to associate the address with a geographic location, or where the "obvious" way is just plain wrong. Using such a service in a purely advisory capacity to raise flags and check on things could make sense. Requiring special staff intervention to process ordinary payment requests for this situation is stupid.
The game is great, but the ncsoft store is a nightmare to interact with, at least for me. I've had multiple rounds of various problems, credit cards disabled due to a "fraud alert" because I bought from ncsoft on more than one occasion, and so on. I don't know why this is such a recurring issue for ncsoft, but it certainly does seem to keep happening. -
Quote:Ooh, didn't know that. I'll update that "sometime soon".The -perception is auto-hit, the -to hit is not. If you just use it as a stealth boost this doesn't matter a lot, but if you're using it to boost your effective defense it's worth slotting an accuracy enhancement (unless you already have plenty of accuracy from set bonuses).
Quote:The logic is that since the combination AR/Dev lacks both Aim and Build Up it has a weaker Alpha Strike than other combos. Adding a damage bonus to the Sniper Rifle/Targeting Drone combo was an attempt to rectify that. It's similar to the reason that Dominator snipe powers have a higher base damage than Blaster snipes despite Dominators having a lower ranged damage scale.
