  1. grappling would be nice, but thus far not many games have had the ability to pull it off.

in a related story, lifting and throwing background things. it needs to be made smoother than elsewhere, but it is iconic to superheroes.
  2. well, i'm hoping for more costume stuff, a lot more.
  3. my experience playing many many itfs and lady greys is that people will look for general capacities, like support, crowd control and damage, and then take what they get. The game doesn't have that many playing that you can be that picky really. If i find 7 other people who want to run an itf, I am not involving an hr department, we run and win or crash, but we run.

rolling power and animation customization together, it was one of the biggest things to happen to the game for me. I can understand people disagreeing, but especially animation added a whole new set of options to make me more excited about the game than i have been in a long time, now we just need some more animations

you know, it is funny, over at the tes forums, people tend to let them get away with bugs and weak animations, but you should see what they do to the developers who forget some obscure bit of the lore that hasnt been mentioned since redguard. I like writing little comedy/sci-fi stuff, but I suspect being creative professionally is a bit like being really good in bed professionally, everyone thinks they can be, but only a few can bring the quality to make real money in it when it is time to deliver

Around here we have "yinz", which I think comes from "you ones" and is another sort of second person plural. I don't use it but I like it. It never would have occurred to me to call it a Lovecraftian word. You mean because of the spelling? It's not exactly "cthonic".
    .
well, that was just me over-exaggerating to (hopefully) comical effect, It is a term i do not care for very much, so i was going for horrific. That said, Most information i have read on it contradicted my old belief that it was of Pennsylvania dutch origin, and it apparently is related to Irish immigrants compensating for the lack of a separate word for second person plural (which existed in their native language). Apparently it is related to y'all and you'se.

i'm sure damz is loving this little etymological side-track if i recall he is welsh, so he likely knows a word for second person plural with 15 consecutive consonants.

Ever. I may have seen a banner add somewhere on a site I found by chance, and I may have seen it mentioned in a list of MMOs. That's it. I don't know what sites it has banner adds on, but they aren't the sites I visit. I was not an MMO player before I learned of City of Heroes and, judging from my forays into other MMOs, will never be one. I enjoy City of Heroes exactly because it is not like an MMO, and I think it's a mistake to try and market it to the hardcore MMO fans.

Secondly, the point of advertising, despite what television may have taught you, is not to annoy us or brainwash us, it is to inform us that a product does, in fact, exist, and maybe make us interested in checking it out. I found and tried both Dragonica and Dungeon Fighter Online simply because I saw a cute ad for them on ICanHasCheezburger, back before localisation started showing me crappy Bulgarian browser games I'll never, ever try. Dragonica caught me banners of cute, anime-style ganguro girls in Fantasy armour while Dungeon Fighter Online caught me with what looked like arcade fighter gameplay right on the banner. And I'm pretty sure those were "Ads by Google."

I don't doubt the marketing department are doing as much as they can be, I just don't feel they're aiming for the right spots. Aiming for MMO enthusiasts is a mistake. Aiming for a broader audience of general gamers, and indeed non-gamers seems like a much better choice, specifically considering we have so many people here for whom City of Heroes was the first and only game they played. Targeting more general areas of congregation might also be a good idea. Again, places like the many "funny caption" blogs tend to get a lot of traffic.

Just put it out there for people to see. It's silly that I had to learn about this game from an article on SomethingAwful.
well sam, the biggest site that hops to mind was kotaku, a general gaming blog that tneds to be very heavily traveled, i'd say advertising there during the ae days was not a bad idea, it is one of the bigger news sites in the general hardcore gaming set. Also saw ads at penny arcade, gu comics(that a bit more mmo specific).

  14. it is a internet moron thing, far from one identified with any nationality. Heck, some internet morons have glommed on to the british disdain for redheads with the whole anti-ginger thing, its really because the perpetrators are stupid, cow-like zombies without any actual identity who supplement that personal weakness by socketing in whatever their 4-chan brethren tell them is funny, and then try to infect the civilized world with it. Luckily they are unlikely to achive any level of real world importance to actually have their idiocy matter, unluckily that means we have to deal with them.

eh, its not like furries are pvpers or something.

anyhow, yes, more beast pieces, screw the /b tards and give your rational customers some good customization options.

anyhow, to answer the question, yes, come join us, we have a system where players can play with each other, even with disparate levels, a high level character can power down and play with you, and get a few slight benefits for doing so, and people can also power you up to play with them. so and yeah, i'm not sure what the average number of alts per player is, but i have over 60, and im not considered a heavy alt-player, so you will have people to play with.

one caveat, consider that given the heavily instanced nature of the game, people will often not respond if you just stand outside yelling lft, because they will be inside missions and wont see it. . pick a server, go to its sub forum, and find out what the teaming channels are. coh players tend to be friendly, and also realize the pragmatic truth that the community that shuns new members dies off , so you will find an open, welcoming and especially goofy group on most servers, particularly liberty, where a certain bat-nuts insane poster hangs out.
  18. oh and kurama, speaking of alternate locomotion, did you check out the ninja run? yeah its part of a booster pack, but its also pretty spiffy looking, thanks to the esteemed "some other animator"

    Slight return

actually since you have been away for a while, you missed something that will excite you. the super sidekick system. remember how, if you had a large group with disparate levels, you kind of had to jockey everyone into pairs? no more, read up on it, but leader now sidekicks EVERYONE, and better yet, exemplaring now gives exp, so pugging just went from convenient to amazing. be aware of it though that if you have a mission in a hard to reach place, maybe dont make someone a leader who is significantly lower than the zone level until you have clear out the door, because they can drop everyone down some levels and turn some ineffectual greens to chainsaw wielding purples..but basic communication can fix that caveat, beyond that, happy pugging.

my reactions, forgot the event existed, but i have some new alts to get the badges with, and the event is fun for its own sake, so bring it.Id prefer going rogue be the priority to valentines day. plus i can get redcap daggers for my dual blade tanker before she hits croatoa.
  23. ok, im confused, my rep just nearly doubled, and i was in a really nasty mood the past few days, i boggle.
  24. I would alter longbow to be more varied, like the ppd. as it stands they all look the same, I'd have powersuited longbow, magical longbow, ninja longbow, and then at the lower level, the guncrazy spandex longbow we see now. It jsut seems that for a large organization, they lack variety, other than at the warden level.
  25. in points 2 and 3 you are actually supporting what i said, you do notice that. in fact your posts in other threads on the topic were what i was basing my claim on. as for topic 1, merging markets wouldn't hurt, but it just seems to be a band-aid till point 2 gets addressed, and that is something that players can only address themselves.
