    Returning..

well, population numbers arent given out anymore, but generally freedom and virtue are the higher pop areas, blueside more so than redside. though there is a mechanic now , super sidekicking, which now makes everyone on the team the leaders level, so making teams is a great deal easier than before. and the level restrictions for most hazard zones have been removed, so no fear of having eden or creys folly missions that divide the team. there also are mission architecht teams, though they are rarer now because the developers made it a bit harder to farm, and the rest of the game a bit easier to farm as always its a good idea to find out your server's main channels( look on the server specific subforums to get the names) and using them to get qualified, reliable teammates.

    No "More"

well, my pie in the sky change would be the ability to grab and throw things in the environment, moreso if theyallowed us to grab and throw held enemies. I'm sure the coding would be excessive, but its just more superheroic.

I want a dinosaur area, most comic book continuities have dinosaur areas, i want one here.

I want a lfm option to teaming, it would make pugging a lot more convenient. Especially with the ssk system, this is really the last barrier to pugging heaven.

I'd like non-combat heroic actions, i realize they need reward balancing to keep them from being farmable, worthless or one time only badge affairs. but i want to save people, not just beat up people.

id like variety in costume themes, we are doing ok, better even, but so many more cultural looks that could expand the game's thematic options..and did i mention kanji chest symbols and back decals yet? all the time? just checking.

Id like a raygun set, its just so thematic for the genre. heck, id like a mad scientist epic AT. rayguns, slightly weaker mastermindish pets with branching buff options, thematically weird aoe controls, yeah.

id like cross server pvp. zones are more fun and more new player friendly when there are lots of teams. The current population is small, but i see no problem with making their lives easier, heck, a full on pvp dev plucked from he community, like doc aeon would be good for the community.

did i mention back emblems? ok, just checking.

I want dark domination and dark assault. the patron is ghost widow, isnt that thematic?

I'd like some kind of alteration to defender's inherent to make them more damaging solo, kind of an inversion of the kheld inherent, buffs get more useful teamed, but damage is buffed solo. yes, i know some defs dont need this, some do, and i dont see it hurting anyone.

I want destructability in mission maps. maybe not in offices for heroes, but arachnos bases, council and circle bases, i want to trash the joint.

I want more variety for the surroundings, where are the supermarkets, the gas stations, the restaurants we always see the ads for, and this is new England, are there no churches at all? also, no malls at all?

ok, thats all i can think of now. more if i think of them.

one more thing, have i told you about back embel...(ACK)/is pulled away by a muppets style hooked stick.

sadly, i knew and was unsurprised. i would not call you a jerk, in fact you used to be soemone who was significantly constructive to the community, you have become very much a toxic poster lately, and the fact that your blog is given some degree of credibility adds to the amount you can hurt the game because of some post issue 14 vendetta really worries me. lets be honest, as someone who's stated opinion of the coh team during a timing issue for Australian players that the developers resolved was

i find that hard to reconcile with your statement that you would love to see the game going for several years. Maybe that was a rough day, but nothing in yoru posting since then has really changed that tone any.

Look, nothing you said was anything people didnt already figure out, goro needs to sell, both to existing players and to get new guys in, or nc will likely cut staffing for something more profitable. nobody is pretending it doesn't but your continued sounding of panic bells that if it does not draw in an ambiguous but always implied to be quite high number, then the game goes in maintained mode does nothing but make the game seem immediately imperiled to a prospective player who may be reading these forums to see what the feel of the game is before playing it. And guess what that payer will feel if he/she reads that we are dead unless we hit some arbitrary number theorized by a blogger? He's not going to waste his cash because apparently the game is already on its last legs. And unlike people like evilryu who nobody listens to anyhow, you have enough credibility to be actually harmful. so if you wanted to personalize the issue by your post, then that's the response, i wish you still did enjoy the game, and werent currently whacking it with a hammer but as the sig says, we have to deal with the uncomfortable realities, which only become worse when people magnify because of personal vendettas.
  4. im reading that as slightly naughty, am i wrong?
  5. I think both are awesome and am glad both are out. i need my fix of costume bits to mismatch on a consistent basis

The same ones that are here saying they should tell us more.
the vault comes to mind. It was a neat social networking type thing, but apparently it got ugly and now posters have fashioned into a blunt object to whack at the developers with.
  7. to hyper: it was a more general post there, i don't actually have a take on you so no editorial was implied. so no snark at you more than a casual observation about how it is hard to tell intent on forums where rationality is not only not assumed, but is sometimes conspicuously absent.

now on to brad. honestly, i am not going to say you are being unreasonable, but do you really think there is anything that ncsoft can do that WOULD satisfy you? given that you appear to have been bitten by them in the past, and are currently unlikely to trust them, I doubt that anything from them would encourage you any more than an assurance from a suit would mollify me. Bottom line is what will happen will happen, we have no way of affecting it above what we already have, trying to get our friends to play, and in game helping flagging players so that they stay around and keep paying the light bills, beyond that we can do nothing. knowing that we have a kill number would just give the doomcriers fuel to their theories that coh is on a deah-walk, and would be co-opted by everyone with an agenda that without immediate additions to bases, pvp, asian costumes(my own pet whinge)or whatever their pet peeve is, then the game will go below the number and we are all doomed, basically what they do now, but with the unearned credibility of having a real number to throw in the developers face in their existing rants. they would go from being a misinformed mob to an armed misinformed mob.

I doubt anyone is naive enough to think that they will keep the full staffing on hand after the issue launches, Standard procedure seems to be to draw on large amounts of extra resources that are intended to be paid for with the price tag of the expansion, the hope is simply that the ncsoft guys dont pare things down to post cov levels, which seems less likely since unlike back then, nc is getting all of the pie, rather than sharing it with cryptic. Its also crazy to think that paragon and nc dont want rogue to sell well, wether or not there is a kill number attached to it, they will want some return on investment, but announcing that there is a kill number would only serve to panic the players into thinking that the game may be doomed, so no use paying for the expansion.

So honestly, this is a great deal of fan speculation based on possibly relevant and possibly irrelevant events that we have seen in the past, but if we dont understand the full setting, and dont trust those who try to tell us it, kind of a waste of time to tell us things really. we wont believe it anyhow.

would that that actually existed, on forums, particularly those devoted to specific topics like video games, politics, book series and the like, there are often a portion of posterswho range from "too emotionally attached to view things reasonably" to "bat-nuts insane social pariah " . and given the lack of ability to attach nuance or tone into posts, occasionally a poster will sound nuts and be kidding, and other times, they are actually nuts. so an actual sarcasm detector would be quite a benefit on forums
  9. debuffs really help a lot. on liberty we got them cleared out with one team redside, but having a rad debuffer was a very large part of getting it to work. the strategy we used was get just one or 2 people on each banner, go nuts till they are vulnerable and then regroup and go red through purple.

Why...because we're chatty here on the forums? Posi I could understand, cause theoretically he'd be the most 'in-the-know'. I would have thought that announcing a long overdue, genuine expansion pack for CoH/CoV could only be viewed as a positive thing for our game. How did someone manage to spin it into a sign of impending doom?
to be blunt, you guys generally tell the truth. Most execs are, and while this characterization is hostile, i doubt anyone will find it inaccurate, deceptive spin-masters who dont give a rats -#$% about the customer so long as they can push out the next hollow shiny without alienating an unprofitable number of us. Maybe you dont have access to the same info as the suit, but your info we would trust. this guy, if experience serves me, would sell us all for new floor pads for his car. We appreciate you and castle getting in trouble for us a great deal more than a suit coming out and giving us a hollow press release that we know we cant trust.

  14. well ares, i dont pvp much anymore, not because of mechanical changes but because of changing time restrictions, but i do applaud you for the effort you put in, you were professional and were treated discourteously, and that reflects poorly on the community. But i thank you for your effort.
  15. id be more interested in how it strafes straight to the left or right, never saw a motorcycle do that. in other words, dont bet on it.

agreed, in a way i think its a retroactive justification for playing the games because people derive some enjoyment from mmos (usually due to the social elements, or the occasionally amazing art, or sometimes the fun competitive gaming), despite them having a number of fundamental and glaring flaws of the genre. the time you thank the developers for a kill 10 mission, is the time they need not fear you anymore

I actually picked up CoH to tide me over until WoW came out. By the time it did, I didn't care about it at all. Still don't.
i nearly didnt play this game BECAUSE of ff XI. It had ideas, and i dont hate the art style, but there were decisions made that caused me to rage-quit so hard that i left a crater. pity because i really liked my linkshell, a really nice group.

Thing is, he was not being bitter, he was just letting me know that even if you try the hardest and do the best work, stuff happens and you still can lose, you just need to prepare to deal with it and mitigate it as well as i am able.

also, lets remember that before the gorilla, few mmos had sub numbers that high, lineage was big, and apparently some chinese mmos have ungodly numbers, but they all used unusual subscription setups. It was only after the gorilla that we have had a larger audience looking into mmos' like conan, warhammer and aion, and in the case of the first two, those audiences are pretty transient. not sure how aion will shake down, but i hope they continue, gaming is not an original hobby, and id rather future game artists use the beautiful characters from there rather than the hideously disproportionate characters from the gorilla.

It's a moor, and demons spawn on it. Go kill 'em. And it's not like they DO anything. They spend half their time standing around looking in the distance and half their time walking around aimlessly. And not just demons. Maybe demons get off on loitering. But even bears, too. You'd think a bear would have something better to do with its time than to walk 10 feet to the left, stand around, walk 5 feet to the right, stand around and so on and so forth all day. What is the bad people's evil plan? To flood the world with aimlessly wandering demons?
ah yes, something little that i like about coh(and CO), at least in the overworld, the bad guys are doing something, vandalism, robbery, meanceing people, doing demonic rituals, the stuff. In almost every other mmo i have played, the enemies just mill about aimlesly. in guild wars i remember some patrols of enemies, but that was generally it. it just seems so lifeless to see these pressing threats just basically hanging out.

you know what gets me as even more annoying? play a korean freemmo. Every one i have tried this far ha had me bludgeoning the cutest, least hostile creatures i have seen. I suppose it is a cultural aesthetic thing, but i dont want to be stomping fluffy bunnies, i want to be fighting the meanest, ugliest monsters in the room(often, in my case, as a big ugly monster myself). Never understood how that was enjoyable. I did a beta for ether story online, an aggressively cute standard freemo, and let me tell you, my first targets were cute little tree creatures, super cute little pink rabbit like blobs with a big smile, and little cat/lemur looking creatures.
  23. to our knowledge it will be ninja based, as per the dev comment "ninjas are cool" beyond that its discussion of looking at files we really arent to be discussing , just a heads up.
  24. rian is pure good and will stay such. seraph blue as well.

i'm tempted to take my blaster, frostkat vigilante, she is a good eharted person, but an idea i have been kicking around involves a sub-plot of her being jealous of a freinds character, and might lead her to go a bit darker.

violet tendencies has always been motivated by the desire to do good but has been hampered by where she is from. She wouldn't trust the heroes enough after seeing longbow's somewhat un-compassionate view of justice, but she will go rogue.

dire will likely stay red, he cant forgive himself for the death of a hostage he was trying to rescue and still is busy making the villains pay his way...plus im guessing some content may be full hero or full red exclusive so mechanically hes my other main redsider.

really wont be switching much, the characters were pretty much conceived to exist in a non side switching world, so most of them are pretty much locked in their ideologies.

A more tangible example would be how the doom horn was sounded about the epic changes that went through where they removed powers. If everyone had been happy and nice about it nothing would have been corrected. Drop rates is another "doom" thread that got us an important game change.

Generally though the voice of doom is considerably smaller than the supporting voice. A single doom calling ranting about server mergers (for instance) can unite a whole group of people together to dispel that notion. All you have to do is look to the Matrix to understand that societies need discord to function
reasonable dissent is different than being a hostile malcontent. The drop rates were doom PLUS rational statements supported by facts. there are posters whose adherence to massively unpopular causes or irrationally crazed theories, particularly ones that later are shown to be factually inaccurate, only marginalize the causes they support.
