So, I just recently noticed that my non-MMs can't rename their lore pets. It's not too big of a deal I guess. Just it'd be nice if non-MMs were able to rename their lore pets as well. It'd be a small thing to help folks distance themselves from the Well lore of the Lore pets should they wish to as well.

Quote:Likely, but can hope folks can use it as an incentive to start using the in-game LFG system again. Course, as you said, folks [myself for instance], like to ask before inviting, and with a trial you just won't get a response.I think you are missing the bigger problem.
Now when you are forming a team, a significant number of people who you send tells to will be unable to reply to you.
I predict the Help channel will turn into a LFG channel. Bank on it, even for people who pay, unless there is a change to the plan.
Of course, could really hope and see if we get a matchmaking service. -
Don't think you have much to worry about Dechs, you're guides are very helpful in general.
I also suggest Paragon use your Warshade guide as marketing material to sell the AT in the store.

Quote:What would certainly be nice is an revamp to the Costume creator to get it to show/preview all costume pieces and let you purchase the costume pieces from within it.I think there would be a benefit from making the store part of the game world, even if it's just npcs located in all in-game stores alongside menu access.
In fact stuff like costume pieces could be picked up from a vendor in Icon, perhaps have some of those mannequins displaying some of the new shinies. It would help with immersion a little. -
Quote:Forbin was refering to Redrum I believe with their crossposting campaign of "Going Rogue is now free".Actually I have been playing for about five years on and off. So I am just wanting a way to easily tell what is unlocked and what is not. Even if it is in the store, you go there to purchase slots and instantly you see just how many slots you have unlocked. Things like that.
And you do have a nice UI request, I suspect personally, that the majority of the question is going to be coming up more so with stuff like slots though. I can see question about it with a few feature unlocks, but well, time will tell how the interface looks.
-
Add to it that the free players don't get posting rights, wouldn't be surprised if much of forum-rage fizzles away.

Personally, not sure, will prolly stake out a name on the new server, and then wait and see how the communities evolve out.
And well, see how the incarnate trial populations migrate or not migrate as the case may be. -

Quote:21 overview doesn't appear to include new slot, but it's possible it'll be a future reveal.I remember one of the devs saying we wouldn't see new Incarnate slots for a little while, but they are focusing on expanding the current slots. So if 20.5 has the Lore expansion, I'm guessing I21 will see one or more of the other slots expand.
However, I'm leaning more towards a later event [perhaps a mid i21 release]. -
Fairly doubtful, but gotta side with Emberly on experience. Just to clarify, I'm not doubting your personal experience, but I don't think it's something as broad as you are suggesting.

Quote:I imagine that folks will still have the option of a Praetorian start [if you have GR].It reads as though there will be just one starting zone and it will be the destroyed Galaxy City. The biggest issue I see is that people don't like gloomy zones as much as the shiny nice ones. One of the reasons people frequently give for not wanting to play villain-side is the more gloomy feel of the zones. I just think you're going to put off a lot of new players if the first thing they see is a demolished, depressing area.
You need to keep one nice shiny starting zone, and make sure people know they have that option.
This, however, will open up folks to playing whatever [non-epic] archetype they want on whichever side they want without dealing with side-changing. -
Quote:Sidenote, I still see Double XP boost events in other games that offer XP Boosts via microtransaction. So that specific concern may not be too pointed.Yes, but there are other things you are not looking at. You can bet the F2P model (micro-transactions) will affect YOUR gameplay as a subscriber.
For example, XP Boosts will be offered in the store, thus the end of Double XP weekends.
However, you will still face an implicit pressure to purchase them to 'keep up'. So the broader concern still applies. -
Quote:I'd content it's more of a failure believing that more money and faces results in a better service. There is some merit to multiple solutions in play, especially some good merit to having multiple third party security certifications in play. However, it's a false dichotomy to believe that the cloud computing services are only applying a single form of security.I understand. I just cringed inwardly at the "leveraging economies of scale for security".
Every person I've ever known who has spouted something like that was either selling something or had bought, whole-hog, into one of these "solutions" that everyone and their brother seems to want to sell.
It's a failure to comprehend that "security" isn't a product. Thus, leveraging an economy of whatever scale isn't going to deliver you "security". It'll get you services at a better price, but security is still a process, not product.
While very true that you still have to deal with the weakest link no matter what information security methods you undertake, at least you limit the amount of valuable information a given terminal will have on it [reducing the risk factor from the 'lost laptop']. -
Quote:You can have fake costume pieces [the 'Fur' part on the Bolero] and multiple-sided color [capes] as well.It occurs to me that there's another issue with sheaths/holsters -- done the same way Maelstrom's are, with the holstered weapon and empty hands being one frame of an animation, and empty holsters and hands holding weapons the other, there's an inherent problem -- all costume parts have, at most, two colors. You'd be restricted to two colors for the drawn weapon, and then have the holster/sheath be one of those colors, mucking up either the weapon or the holster/sheath. And making the costume parts accept a third color just for _one_ aspect of weapon customization is, I suspect, a great deal more trouble than it is worth to the devs.

Quote:You're arguing against a monolithic structure for security. Yes, you have a single 'provider' of service, however, that does not mean you only have one security solution in play. Nothing should stop you from using a RSA token solution and encrypting your data on EC2.My Security+ certification agrees with this stance. Ideally, you never want a single point of failure security system. Especially not one where that single point of failure means "economies of scale" have been compromised. It's one thing for Cisco to fail and for Cisco's information to be compromised; it's quite another thing for Cisco to fail and for five-hundred different companies' information to be compromised.
Course, here's the funny thing. If any hardware provider's security [cisco is actually a good example here, although I also like RSA for the immediate reference] gets compromised, the entire footprint of their products security are compromised. That's why it's kind of important to keep up to date on your security updates [as I'm sure you know]. Is it more likely for those 500 companies to update their security methods or for the one company whose lifeblood is maintaining the trust of their clients. Perhaps really the only advantage a monolithic setup has in assuring security updates are applied across the entire platform. -
Quote:Actually, that's one of the nicer points for some companies with regard to cloud. A cloud provider is able to centralize and put economies of scale to work for security purposes. Of course, as in all things, it's a matter of having a partner you can trust to do their part well.Keep that stance. The "Cloud" is going to last until Cisco, Google, or one of the other big companies is hacked, and then it will die like the fad it is. And this isn't an "if" - it's a when. One of these companies will get hacked, and everything in their "Cloud" will be compromised, and then everyone will realise that we keep control of our own data for a reason.
I, fortunately, work at a place where I can wave around HIPAA and get people to cool down on fads, but corporations have to deal with tech-loving IT heads like your boss, so it's them that will take the bite on this one.
Or in the case of some security providers, lie about the extent of damage for a few months until the public forgets about it. Of course, incidents such as that tend to just highlight that you need to plan for data compromises to occur as well. -
To be honest, I think it's more a case of a hump in power levels. 30s feel boring to me on most of my characters. Just more enhancements mostly [which are nice, don't get me wrong, but they're more useful to me once I get 50 and start spending the moneyz].

Quote:I agree. It also alleviates the time risk/commitment of trying to start a team to do something.
Any game that institutes an auto-teaming feature can only gain from it, especially an MMO. Because while you guys may espouse the ease of team building, but I've seen the in-game reality of three people broadcasting for a team over each other for 15 minutes and no-one goes ahead to make one. Because people don't want to bother MAKING teams, but most do want to PLAY on teams. Handle the making process for them and you profit, while at the same time losing nothing in the addition.
Your 15 minute example may actually be cropping up because of the heavily instanced nature of the game. Even if one of them were willing to lead, they may not be willing to hang out and do nothing for a period of time trying to recruit and instead jump into an instance and actually do something.
I do admit there is fear of leadership [I'm guilty of it myself after all].

Quote:Quite, they work better as a supplement, or often as a 'simple interface' when you only need a simple interface.Your boss sounds like... well, amost every tech writer in the last year or so. "Tablet tablet tablet is the PC dead when will the PC go away tablet tablet tablet!"
Yeah... take a few tablets and calm down.
Basically, if I could, I'd have the people doing this work exclusively in a tablet for a month... and then say how much they want the PC, keyboards, etc. to go away. Tablets have their place, and they're an interesting form factor, yes. But that place is *alongside* a PC. It's certainly not "replacing" it. -
Quote:3) Handle the TurretsThis is in strong contrast to the ITF, which has probably the highest density of tactical decisions in the game.
The BAF has two tactical decisions:
1) Fight the AVs at their spawn points vs. fight them at the helipad vs. fight them at the tennis courts.
2) Fight the escapees at their spawn points vs. fight them at the chokepoints.
4) Handle Damage Balancing/Adds
Possibly can make the argument for deciding to farm the Adds/AVs during the final phase as well, but that's really not too deep imo. Personally, I feel that #4 shows a bit more of a case for not necessarily comparing based on 'points', but on depth of those decisions, especially when considering the differences between a task force and a trial. -
There is some trouble with 3d games, but I'd suggest looking at OpenSim environments, and it's corporate predecessor.

Quote:Or alternatively, in an abandoned building within the safety of the slums, but ya, it still was annoying."The trainer's hidden behind an illusionary wall in the labyrinthine sewers full of monsters. Don't worry, I'm sure they'll figure it out."
One thing it did help with was establish community within the game though. Not the best way, but it's also a reflection of one of the interesting problems that MMOs face. There are no real secrets anymore, the player-run wiki and boards do such a thorough job of exposing the content and how-tos that much of the game is already exposed. And, unfortunately, there is an expectation that folks use those resources.
Many of the structures of the MMO game are pretty self-evident. The tutorials do usually do an ok job of telling you the basic mechanics of how to play. In telling you "too fast" the issue is that most MMOs do design their systems to be accessible early on, so as to broaden their appeal. If you're a crafter, and you find out that you really can't start crafting until you get halfway to some arbitrary level, it's kind of frustrating and may send you off.
One thing I will note, CoH itself is pretty bad about spamming you with Tutorial Tips, imo.
Quote:Right now, if you're like me and you don't like the current MMO framework, you're SOL. That's all there is. Every game out there is about items, raids, stats, loot, dungeons and so forth, and every game which didn't start out that way gets those things after the fact. And if I'm looking for a game which specifically LACKS some of these aspects and has other aspects besides, then such a game doesn't exist, because every MMO that comes out, no matter how current, comes out looking very much the same as all the others, down to the interface, structure and even component names. -
Quote:That incident would have also been a rewrite/replacement of the general idea that Battalion was supposed to be a factor of the invention system. Not really. I knew some behind the scenes stuff from when Ouroboros was first introduced although I expect it could all have been ripped up and replaced by now. Unfortunately.
In all, until in canon, prolly best not to worry or grump over it changing. -
Quote:Just curious here, is 25ft/whatever the area of effect for Team Teleport?Remember, "Real Numbers" aren't always accurate numbers.
E.g., Team Teleport Range 25 feet
(it's really 225, but CoD and in-game Real Numbers say 25)
