Any chance of a new client when CoH: Freedom comes out?

Despite an entirely new and much better hardware wise rig, I'm having problems running CoH. I'm putting it down (after hours of research) to conflicts between windows 7 64 bit and OpenGl.

So any chance that a direct X version of the client is in the works?

Doubtful. Would require absolutely epic amounts of work. As an aside, I'm running the game on several different Win7 64 bit machines with no problems.

Fairly doubtful, but gotta side with Emberly on experience. Just to clarify, I'm not doubting your personal experience, but I don't think it's something as broad as you are suggesting.

You should check in the tech threads, Cactus. I'm running Win7x64 with the latest drivers for my Nvidia video adapter and my performance is, if anything, quite a bit better than under WinXP32.

Do you have a 400/500 series Nvidia card by chance?

They are known to have issues with OpenGL..

While my 470 handles CoH pretty well, it's definitely not handling it as well as it should.. and some other OpenGL programs totally slog it to a crawl. (to the point that a 9800 card performs better)

Bloody forum login problem.

Okay. Short Short Short version.

First: DirectX is a Legacy API vendors are better off ignoring.

There is no reason for Paragon Studios to take a flying leap into the computing dark ages with a limp-lementation of a DirectX renderer.

Second: Nvidia has 64bit issues, not OpenGL issues.

Your best bet for help, other than buying an AMD graphics card, is to inform Nvidia of your issues: http://www.nvidia.com/object/driverq...assurance.html

400/500 most definitely has OpenGL issues, an Nvidia tech support even said so,

http://blenderartists.org/forum/show...rmance-problem (double-sided shading is a big culprit)

How much of this carries over to gaming performance, I'm not sure.. but I get hit HARD in Blender with it (like I said, my old 9800 outperforms it)

I bought a Radeon HD 5770 specifically because COH said it would support it better with Ultra Mode. It's been almost a year and it still crashes when water effects are enabled. Plus I ran into a weird issue where the driver would crash on Visual Studio. I'm going back to NVIDIA next time I buy a card.

Odd. My 5870 HD is running fine with Water FX at max. I'd be glad to compare settings if you like.

Be well, people of CoH.
