The run-time dichotomy is a big thing imo.
Such that I think that perhaps it needs to have it's reward readdressed, such as a better reward rate [ie, more likely to get Rare/V.rare whatever] or an increased number of awards [it takes twice as long, give it double awards]. -

Quote:Well, by the same token most people didn't like to think of their natural martial arts heroes attaching grenades to their feet to get better accuracy.I don't really get the requests for them to make the Lore pets not look like what they are, or to support folks pretending they're whatever their concept would have them be.
I mean, I understand what the requests are, it just seems poor form to me. While City of H/V allows for a lot of leeway in terms of concepts, it's still a world itself with relatively static elements that make up its story.
It just comes off like "Well I know I just did a mission _for a scientist_ who gave me a _tech based weapon as a reward_, but could you make it look like a magic wand since my character wouldn't use technology?"
If you want to pretend that your Lore pets don't come from the Well, more power to you, but asking them to devote any amount of development time so that you can ignore the game world they're putting development time into creating just seems off to me. -
Quote:To prevent jousting mostly.Actually, can I ask what purpose travel suppression serves. At all? PvE or PvP?
Rhetorical, but seriously - IMO a lame mechanic that spoils one of the very best aspects of this game.
Please remove it from the game, completely. Pretty please?
I much prefer travel suppression to the previous solution of 20% accuracy nerf while the power was on. -
Quote:There's also the problem that generally, you don't win in the long term. Which sucks, that said, I like AE and the other potential for villainy quite a bit. Sure it's a more enclosed system, but it sorta has to be, because when the villain is dictating the story, well the other players don't really careI've never cared for Redside because most of the villainy was cartoonish (in an 80s way), and you spent most of your time following other's orders. Neither of these conceits suit my villainous character concepts.
Redside suffers from a narrative flaw - in the superhero narrative (indeed, in most narratives, really), the bad guys act, while the heroes react.
To put it another way - on Blueside, you can play Superman, or Batman, or Spider-Man. If they found out about the missions, they'd do them, even if exact methods would vary.
It's moderately difficult to imagine Magneto, Dr. Doom or the Skrulls taking Arachnos' orders to rob a bank, or checking in the newspaper for a good idea for a heist. They'd already have things to do, to suit their purposes..

Quote:That actually was one of the really awkward complaints about the aggro cap, aoe target caps, and gdn iirc.People were saying solo.
So I came up with a solo option. That is all.
As for the wish to feel like a god...haveing to run any content that requires you to team up to beat up one badguy, I don't know how that makes you feel like a god.
"I have unlimited power!" >_> "Oh ummm, hey, I need help beating up this AV, I can't handle him on my own."
Yeah, you could lower it to EB, but even then, tend to need to build for it. And how does that make one feel like a god?
Lot of characters felt 'super' [godlike works here too] being the guy who laughed at the 100s of critters smacking into them.
It'd be nice to see those sort of elements crop up again. -
Quote:I imagine it has a few issues.Your thought for the day: How did Praetorian Hami get to be that powerful that quickly?
First, Primal has vastly more supers than any of the other dimensions. Praetoria has a lot, no mistake, but Primal has a Damned Lot. So it's easier to contain.
Second, Praetorian Hamidon acted earlier in their history and was able to get established before really threatened. Now, Praetorian Hamidon didn't want to act as early as he did, but was 'forced' to by the reality of the wars going on. More pointed though, I see Hamidon's growth/power as being a geometric progression [Game of Life and all that] so the headstart helped him out a lot more than here. -
Quote:Really wish I could get the music by itself for this game [in general]. I have to play with sound off because the humming from my shields on most of my characters drives me nuts.I love the music that plays throughout. It really sounds like the soundtrack to us taking control of Praetoria's power, and I love how it ramps up in intensity as we get further on. It sticks in my head and makes me want to play the trial again for the atmosphere, so nicely done.
I'm sure others hate it, as the in-game music I like tends to get muted by others, but I would love more music like this in trials, even added retro-actively to the BAF and Lambda. -
Ya, just relax about it, prolly just frustration and not really having anything 'helpful' to say.
Although to be honest, I normally don't say anything when I drop from a league now either, [when successful]. -
-
Quote:Depends a lot on your luck. As Sam points out, 'To do what?' is a valid question.Luckily you don't need to run the BAF 30 times. (I don't even think you need to run 30 combined trials on one character)
If you want the stuff that's locked behind E-Merits, yes you will need to do a bit more than 30 Trials.
And if the RNG isn't your friend, 30 trials at least for a T4 [if that is your goal, I'd also direct you to Arcanaville's posts regarding T4 being a stretch goal].
Further, my controller who started going through the grind after 20.5 has done about 30 trials already, and has only unlocked Judgement so far [Interface is close at least]. This is due to the iXP share issue, yes, but it is still a real factor now. -
Quote:To be honest, personally, the best for me was when they introduced the automatic Boss->Lt downgrade -Way Back-.I feel much the same way. Which is why, incidentally, I think that the introduction of the ability to downgrade AVs to EBs was the single greatest addition to this game since the game began.
Kinda sucked when I was leveling up my controller back then and pretty much couldn't advance in this one story arc [blue side] because there were two fixed bosses in one encounter group. -
Think it's you, I think Imperial City is actually in Louisiana.

Quote:I actually think the secret of the Cole/Hami stare-down is supposed to be some big 'woah' moment for the praetorian storyline. If that's true or not, who knows, but that's the intent, at least for the praetorian population.Don't your allies mention several times that Cole wasn't alone when he fought Hamidon?
In fact don't they acknowledge that Hamidon would have won if Cole hadn't entered the fray?
So while he didn't do it alone, his involvement was a turning point.
Is this not the case? -
Quote:Given that powersets are going to be mostly uncoupled from alignment with I21 as well, I think it's mostly going to have to be content and culture.I'm sure Redside will get a bump in player numbers with the release of F2P but I doubt it will cause any type of revival like we witnessed during the introduction of Veats and Demon MMs.
It's going to take some sort of new content, Powersets or zones, to move a large number of players redside for any amount of time.
I doubt we'll see a 'focus' on redside content either, best can hope for is matched or shared content, which is fine. -
Quote:Something that may have been helpful to remember when posting that earlier. That was without Power Boost :/, thanks to the new group buffs that should be reliable to have up on my Singy. If you're FF, defense would be better than resist. Each point of defense is better than the last, up to 45%, so if he has 30, going to 40 is a large jump.
Look at it this way, right now, he has 80% total defense. You start with 50, he gets 30 more. so 2/10 attacks hit him. at 90% defense, 1/10 attacks hit him. That means 10% more defense will halve his incoming damage.
Compare that to 20% res, which is 20% less damage. Defense wins.
Moves defense up to ~32.6% from shields, then another 12.7% from Dispersion. So bleh ~45%, which leaves me again wondering. Of course, with trials, the soft cap is a closer to 59 or 60, so it would be useful there... Hmm.
[ edit / add ]
Of course, on trials, it's very unlikely for my singy to only have my buffs, so again graaah, guess will just have to play with it. -
Quote:To be fair, most of that problem would mostly resolve itself if the LFG tool were usable.Just look at what's happening there now: just with the iTrial crowd (at peak times) there's getting to be so much going on at the RWZ-1s... that League forming moves to other instances of the RWZ and into Pocket D.
You bring in a bunch of people that aren't allowed access to the trials but that are still going to run RWZ content, Mothership Raids and the LGTF to build up their Merits and Vanguard Merits; its going to congest things up quite a bit and could initially push the iTrials right out of the RWZ and into Cimerora, Ouroboros? and Pocket D (being the only other co-op zones at the moment).
Similar thing could happen with Cimerora: people that aren't allowed access to VIP content going with the ITF and Wall farming to optimize 50s; plus those just running Cimeroran Arcs jamming up the chat channels and so forth.
Theoretically, at some point, Pocket D would soon be having the same issues as the RWZ does currently; especially once some of the Holiday Events kick off.
Then again; all of this influx (if any) may decide to avoid the Co-op zones and things would carry on as usual.
Other thing to consider is that free players not having access Incarnate play on the regular servers in addition to some potential moves to the VIP server by current players might create an 'Incarnate Server'.
I really just hope [perhaps foolishly] that it's reasonably possible for the devs to make the LFG tool usable while enjoying other content. -
I do more the fan fiction sort of RP.
Which makes it sound a lot more weird than I intend, but hey.
Generally, I don't RP my interactions with folks. Too many folks not rping, and even among them, too many folks that frankly aren't going to be interested in my characters' stories.
I simply play normally, then fit out the scenarios in my head as to how the mechanically driven scenario works out. It has the big advantage of letting me maintain my character's Mary Sue status without being a downer on other people's play.

Quote:A fair point, what I am suggesting though is that Incarnate stuff is Cosmic-level.All I'm saying is that as the Incarnate system expands, it will need to feature more personal stories that allow us to shine in our own adventures. All it features right now is instances where we're badly underpowered and have to essentially cheat to beat a single foe or a pair of foes. Sooner or later, it needs to feature the reverse - instances where my enemies are underpowered and are only a threat to me, personally, because they team up and cheat.
And while we did have a few solo instances going on with the various Infinity sagas, those were mostly for characters that were at the Cosmic range of power in the first place. The problem is while you can support some cosmic level actors/characters going solo in such a story, you can't have the vast majority of characters be cosmic without it getting silly.
Now there is a very good point to be made that as we, the characters, advance along that incarnate scale, we're really approaching the cosmic power level range. And it would be more justified to have some more solo cosmic level interaction. Then, you run into problems with the Massively Multiplayer nature [which admittedly already exist with the plot as is] and that's just posing the question of how interesting/significant the Infinity Wars would be if everyone were Adam Warlock or Thanatos, yes, even Toad wielding the powers of the Eternity.
That isn't to say there's no room for the 'non-cosmics' to have their own content with that story line, that certainly happened with the Infinity Wars/crossovers. I'd contend that it happens in CoX with some of the existing arcs and the new TFs. Could it use more? Certainly. Right now, it's awkward because the Incarnate Storyline and the Praetoria storyline are related but not necessarily the same, so there will be some intersection.
I did think of another wrinkle with regards to non-cosmics in the cosmic arcs, it's very rare for any of the non-cosmics to actually get to keep the power they gained (more akin to the Blood Coral line I'd say). And that would hardly work for a 'progression' based end game. That said, I dunno. Not good answers there.
The problem I see with incarnate-explicit content that isn't in the Trials is I see a real problem with solo content requiring someone be an incarnate. For instance, I really dislike the Alpha slot requirement with Apex and Tin Mage, it's really really annoying. It's more tolerable since 8man is pretty much a small raid for other vendors, but it's still really annoying. And then you have to face the issue that the game is pretty unbalanced in terms of relative power to make it seem reasonable that the content 'requires you to be an incarnate' versus 'this content is too difficult for me to complete on my own even when I am an incarnate'. And well, I dislike the Alpha slot 'method' that was used in Apex/Tin Mage.

A thought, I'd really like to see AE get some additional functionality with Incarnate abilities and the like. That way, folks could have their own crafted stories that meaningfully utilize their incarnate abilities. However, it'd unfortunately need to have no 'additional' rewards. So it'd just be self-story fest, but :/ -
Quote:Prolly the same reason no one noticed Croatoa was so magical until the gnomes went nuts. Unobtanium!"It is a abandoned, forgotten place, and a home for those who are now forgotten and abandoned."
Wait, isn't that Dark Astoria?
Nitpick: 'an' abandoned, forgotten place not 'a' abandoned, forgotten place. Somebody been reading MMO forums too long!
On a more (or less) serious note, the whole magic being the most powerful force thing there seems rather abrupt. No mention of magic until the next to last paragraph. Why is the place so magical? And why did no one notice all this powerful magic when the place was being built?
Explain it, GG! -
Quote:The only exception I'd toss in there would be traditional trials. Since they also have a time constraint going on.A big difference in the comparitive play experience of a trial/TF and a solo or small team arc or series of missions is that generally you can 'stop and smell the roses' in the latter.
I've been of the opinion for a long time that everything in the game should be scaled for different team sizes, down to solo - with comparitively scaled rewards as well. IMO trials should be too.

Quote:[Ustream reference]While there's someone on the subject about Lore pets...
Could their perhaps be some new ets added to the list that mesh with the existing Mastermind types? I would like to see Ninja Incarnate Pets added for use with my Ninja MM, also what about CoT demons for use with Demon Summoners, Banished Pantheon for the Necromancers, skulls and hellions for thugs maybe? or even Malta mercenaries.
Basically where are the Lore Pets that mesh thematically with the existing MM types, sure these pets are drawn from the well but I really would prefer to see my all Ninja MM bringing forth Ninja essences rather than Praetorian Seers or Wisps of light.
- Raith
It is possible for more lore pets to be added, but they're at the bottom of the list now, they want to add other options to the other incarnate abilities first before adding even more to Lore. -
Quote:There were some nice suggestions about randomizing things with the Trials. However, problems occur when you have a drastic difference in difficulty between certain components. I like the mention CoP there because Purple-mode is significantly harder than Red, and the complications there in.I don't know what they could do to prevent this from happening beyond adding some element of randomness to the events to force the league to switch tactics on the fly or design trials for smaller groups (which is probably against their design rules for these things, and is therefore unlikely to happen).
Not to say that random components wouldn't work, they really can, it's just a difficult balance to make the variance interesting and not annoying. Especially since unlike some other raid-style encounters, we don't suffer from a lockout. It's alot easier to just decide to screw it and hope for an easier raid.
I do think 'hard modes' are a nice way to add some variance, but there needs to be a reasonable award for them, and personally, Astral Merits aren't worth it to me. And well, it's really just a delay of farm mode, since at least with BAF, it's not too hard to do a Mo run. Conversely, I don't see many Lambda master component runs going on either, it's just too frustrating of a difficulty hike.
