  1. I said /Regen because:

    (A) You could easily fuel a build with either set

    (B) There is no extra damage from the secondary...no damage aura/dmg buffs/attacks

    (C) It lends itself well to recharge so you can run optimal chains.

    (D) The comparison would be even.

I would be ok with a comparison of both running elec armor...even though there's a damage aura...I could live with it for the sake of argument.

If you look at the base numbers...TW has much higher damage modifiers.
  2. Staff is very solidly in the middle of the pack for ST damage, something akin to Katana in those terms...

But for AoE, staff is solidly above average...it also has the forms which allow you to do things other sets do not.

Staff is a good set, but not the be all end all of melee sets.
  3. If, you have run the numbers than you would acknowledge that without /Fire or even without Gloom, SS is just not close. SS/Fire you can use gloom and burn...TW/Fire you can't...

So what set is leaning heavily on other powers not inherent to it to get the amazing damage you're talking about?

Add Burn and Gloom to any melee set for a brute, and they also do amazing damage...just because KOB is a good power to add to it does not mean that SS/Fire is dominant or even close by itself.

Also, as was pointed out earlier, double stacking Rage is the only way you get there, at the damage cap, where rage is nullified, the difference is even greater.
  4. Without gloom it will not be terribly good. I would say you would want to find a epic hero pool St attack for a filler...maybe laser beam eyes. But my SS/Regens chain is kob/hm/gloom/hm repeat. Maybe some use of punch or jab or fs would fill but I would bet there are better options
  5. Typically it's hard to cap S/L resists on a brute shy of running Invuln. Just because the base numbers are quite a bit lower than a tank. Adding SW +3% Res unique and 6 slotting the Brute set would likely help you get there, but you'd likely still be somewhere around +/-65-70% maybe a hair more...it's been a while since I ran the numbers on Elec.

    This. ^^^^

Eldagore: This is more about the Brute AT in general, though I personally find it easier to fuel TW with a brute, it is still totally playable and just as potent on a scrapper.

In addition while Seismic Smash is an interesting power and lots of fun...look at the raw numbers and you will find this...

Rend Armor > Any ST attack
Arc of Destruction > Any AoE attack

TW really is that good...you just burns TONS of endurance to keep it running...

    DA the end hog

I run 11 toggles on my Kat/DA brute and no issues, that includes cloak of fear full time...

I run 11 toggles on my DA/Fire tank without issues, though I went with OG on that build because I couldn't get CoF to work with the end recovery I have.

Now, both toons have TFC, PJ, FPR, AM accolades...that helps a bit, and I used agility alpha for both of them...(+end mod/recharge/defense)
  8. I have been saying Regen is back to the old days since rebirth radial destiny was available.
  9. Focused Accuracy is a waste...total end hog...not worth it for the minor buff...you're better off with leadership and take manuevers and tactics.

Stamina is actually a better place for end mod then Phys Perfection, the base % is higher. I would move all my end mod there, and add a slot to health for a Numinas proc, ditch phys perfection...you can slot for enhanced max end and get similar results with IOs.
  10. Because that slow set does more DPS...with or without /FA as a secondary...has more AoE inherently...AND has more than 1 big hitter for ST and AoE.

No misclicks, misses, and a clockwork smooth chain the entire run. You flat out won't consistently beat a ss/fa/soul brute simarly invested. Now come i24 and the proc changes? We shall see. But saying ss is a distand second you are out of touch or out of your mind.
So, your argument is that SS can be combined with another powerset, and a specific epic pool, to form an attack chain with the best powers from 2 powersets (1 from SS itself) and arguably the highest DPS attack in any epic pool for a brute; in addition to 2 damage buff powers...and all that is ALMOST as good as the top DPS attack chain from TW, which is so tight for recharge that adding an attack without the weapon would cause you to lose momentum and cost you DPS?

Thanks for making my point all the more exascerbated.

I am not discounting SS/FA...but I am tired of people comparing a set with 3 great powers...(Rage/FS/KOB) to TW...only by combining it with other sets. I love SS, it might be my favorite brute primary...but it is time to call a spade, a spade.

I will let you prove it, here is the challenge Tommy:

    (1) Roll 2 toons 1 TW/Regen and 1 SS/Regen

    (2) Slot the 2 with identical common powers and only the primary sets as differences

    (3) You may take any epic pool powers, but you may not use attacks from those pools, only primary power attacks in your attack chain.

    (4) Record each Pylon run, you may have 5 for each toon, and post them for the forums to see.

    (5) Compare the best times from both toons and the average times of both toons.

    (6) Come back and tell me, "I guess you were right, SS is like 60-80 DPS light compared to TW"

When you compare the 2 objectively, there is no comparison. I can build any TW with enough recharge to do the top DPS chain...you MUST have FA and Gloom to do it with SS and even then you come up short.

Whether you like it or not, TW is THE best DPS set for a brute or any other melee. Period. There is not a discussion to be had...and SS is a very DISTANT second. TW is not even one of my top 3 favorite sets for brutes...but, even I cannot deny that it is an absolute monster, if you can build it, master it, and fuel it.

So, you can keep comparing a complete toon, purpose built for one purpose, to a primary powerset, or come out of the cave you're in and see the light. Either way, my post was accurate...run the numbers...SS with anything but FA is not even in the same zip code for DPS as TW with ANY secondary. So go run this little challenge, and try to prove me wrong, but work out an attack chain with KOB for ST DPS that is even close...

Let's see, that would go something like this...KOB...(recharging)...KOB...(recharging)...K OB...

    See my point?
  12. Yes...HP bonuses are always necessary on a brute, but scrappers end up capped with DP and accolades. However, most sets that give recharge bonuses also boost HP, and my brute's current build is about 3K HP with Dull Pain up
  13. This is what I did...

  14. You don't need vigor because it doesn't buff recharge. Regen toons have regen in spades already...they need recharge and defense...order of importance is both equally...but if you can't get the defense then definitely get the recharge.

Don't hold your breath for Super Strength getting ported...the Devs have said essentially that Rage as it is would not pass a balance pass, and so if they open that can of worms, they would not be able to ignore the overpowered aspects of the set, so if you love SS as it is now...be careful what you wish for.

    Melee AT for me?

Well, of course it would boost DPS, the question is with Tankers having a lower base damage multiplier, how much does it benefit? I would think, that like brutes, they would tend to benefit more from the double hit radial side than they would from Core.
  17. planet_J

    Melee AT for me?

For top Damage and survivability go brute...

Top 3 Damage sets (ST and AOE)...in this order...
    (1) Titan Weapons
    (2) Super Strength
    (3) Electric or Fire

Top 3 Survivability choices (opinions will vary here quite a bit)
    (1) Dark Armor
    (2) Invulnerability
    (3) Super Reflexes/Shield/Regen/Willpower/Electric/Stone could all go here

If you want a damage aura to add to your chaos, then these will get you a damage aura:
    Fiery Aura
    Dark Armor
    Electric Armor

Depends on what you want the build to do...
I have several toons that are complete bad boys on their own:
    DARK MELEE/INVULN
    KATANA/DARK
    CLAWS/REGEN
    SUPER STRENGTH/REGEN
    TITAN WEAPONS/DARK
    STONE/ELEC
    FIRE MELEE/DARK
    ELEC/SHIELD
    SUPER STRENGTH/FIRE AURA

What do you want this toon to do? All of them have strengths and weaknesses, however, some are better at more than others...for example, my Elec/Shield scrapper is an AoE powerhouse, but so/so at hard targets compared to say...Super Strength/Regen Brute...The most survivable is easily my Dark Armor/Fire Melee Tank, but he doesn't do as much damage as my brutes and scrappers...Dark Melee/Invulnerable is a very good combo to do most things...kind of a jack of all trades master of only one(because invuln is king of Smashing/Lethal...hands down, good at everything else...but). Super Strength/Invuln is also a popular combo...you may like it.

In short, what are you looking for out of this toon?
  18. Titan Weapons, hands down...and I do mean by a large margin...Super Strength is a quite distant second...after that I would have to think maybe Claws and then MA/StJ/DM/SM/Kat/FM/KM will all be in there somewhere close to each other covering the middle of the pack. ELM/BS/BA/WM/EM/Staff will all be behind the others...
  19. planet_J

    Da/dm

    Agreed about focused accuracy...

My Dark/Fire tank has no end issues and I run 11 toggles...no phys perfection either...I use soul PPP for Gloom...but I run OG instead of CoF.

My Katana/Dark brute has no end issues and he also runs 11 toggles...one of which is CoF. He has superior conditioning and phys perfection also though.

Both have TF Commander, FPR, AM, and PJ accolades.

I can't agree more with slotting the ToE proc into Dark regen early...I had a level 13-14 proc bought asap.

Leveling isn't bad, stick to your first few attacks when attacking and only use your heavy hitting attacks when you know you will get bang for your buck...i.e. hard targets or a full health LT or Boss. Slotting for end redux helps.

CoF should have decent slotting...I use 3 pieces from the Nightmare set, (to get the defense bonus too) and I use the Acc/End, Acc/Fear, Fear/End IO's...I have even been known to boost those to 50+5 from time to time as well...you can use more, but I am totally happy with that accuracy...even +4 minions will get hit with Fear more often than you think around 100% accuracy.

Also, I like to slot Death Shroud with the -res proc out of Fury of the Gladiator set, and 3 slot that set to get 3 KB prot as well...makes the stuff around you squishy and makes you less likely to get knocked around. Then I fill it with 3 pieces of Erads usually, or something else if I need the bonuses.
  20. May also want to try my Regen guide, the link is in my sig.
  21. Actually Death Shroud is your taunt aura.
  22. If you use Build Momentum it is...if you don't...then no it isn't...
  23. (1) TW/Elec is viable as a tank build...but it depends...every build has some weakness...so fight less of what you're weak to, and more of what you're strong toward...(i.e. energy damage types)

    (2) Power surge is skippable. The 2 attacks you asked about are an integral part of the top DPS single target attack chain for TW...DO NOT skip them.

    (3) Every Armor set has some sort of hole...I can think of worse holes to have than Toxic...not too many incarnate Vazhilok running around these days.

    (4) Don't worry about toxic, it's not a major concern, positional defense is good. You have to keep in mind though, if you use DS, you will have to work that into an attack chain every 5-10 seconds or so...so plan ahead.

    (5) Superior Conditioning is absolutely freaking awesome, take it, especially with TW...it's free Max End...who loses there?

    (6) Depends on the proc, SBE procs, and eventually all procs, will be PPM vs % chance (which is what in game procs are now). So, you would ideally want % chance procs in fast firing powers right now, but PPM procs work best in auto powers or powers that fire about as often as they are supposed to proc...

    (7) Other than Endurance, you might have a bear of a time getting Softcapped to positionals...you may sacrifice some things to do it. If you can get Melee Softcapped with 1 DS and get the rest to 32.5% or 40% you are in good shape.

On a side note, I would totally recommend Agility Core Alpha for this build... +End Mod, +Recharge, +Defense = WIN!
  24. This would be how I might build a DM/Regen Scrapper...

Also, you might want to try having a look at the Regen guide in my sig...

  25. Yes, I highly recommend ShadowMeld for /Regen Scrappers...if you combine it with MoG you get 45 seconds of Godmode with SM/MoG/SM

Miracle and Numina Procs should always go into powers that are always on.

Dark Consumption could be slotted like an attack like you have it...if I was going to do that, I would likely 6 slot an oblit set for the +Def and +rech instead of Erads. The set bonuses are great but get to 40-45% S/L def first, worry about E/N later...

This is my SS/Regen brute build...it is not for the faint of heart when it comes to influence spending but it does some extraordinary things...and alot of the slotting could be transferred to your build. Of course, brutes don't get shadowmeld...so that is something you could do differently...and you won't get Gloom like I do, because scrappers don't.

    Highlights:
    173.25% Global Recharge
    40% S/L Def
    Perma DP
    Perma Hasten
    Capable of hitting Regen Cap
2.8+ Net End recovery with Accolades (which I have, so turn them on)
