Regen/SS advice please?

I've got a regen/ss brute on my other account that I've just hit 50 and slotted out. He's having some endurance issues and I'm afraid I might have gimped my build for what I wanted.

As of now, I'm not wanting to take Incarnate powers into account for this build. As stated above, this character is on my other account and I'm thinking of making it a F2P account. I've almost got all of my Tier 8 done, and if I understand correctly as long as your Tier 7 then your still able to slot and use enhancements/bonuses.

What I was trying to achieve in the build is softcap to S/L defense. Also was wanting to deal some good damage with decent recharge.

I don't run tactics, it's just used as a mule. I was also trying to keep the cost down as much as possible since it isn't a toon on my main account.

Here's the build, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for looking!

check out my guide for /regen...it includes slotting tips and the link is in my sig.

But I can see your problem from here...Quick Recovery is a MUCH better place to put enhancements for end mod. The base % is MUCH higher than stamina...almost double in fact. So put a perf shifter proc in stamina and move ALL your end mod pieces to QR, should boost your endurance recovery by a lot!

I usually slot QR on /Regen like this: Perf Shifter proc/Perf Shifter End Mod(50)/End Mod IO generic(50+5)

Stamina gets: Perf Shifter Proc

Checked out your sig, after reading it I think I'll give another regen brute a try. The one I posted here is on my secondary account so now I'm wanting to make one on my primary account to incarnate. Only problem is I don't know what to pair it with, any suggestions?
Here's what I'm looking for/would like to be able to do EVERYTHING (doesn't everyone)!

Survivabilty, good syngery, able to pump out lots of damage, of course lots of recharge. Since I'm needing lots of recharge, I think a power that does some high ST DPS would be nice to have. Rather or not it'll be the best overall for what I would like, well i'm not sure. A primary that does knock down would help me survive seeing if they're not standing they're not attacking.

Here's some choices I'm considering:
Dark
Stone
Kinetic
Street

Also ones that I kinda like or think I would, just not sure if they would help as much is:
Fiery
Energy (I've always liked energy but not sure if it stacks up to the others anymore)

Any suggestions on what I'm considering or maybe some that I didn't mention?
Tried to stay away from weapon sets for redraw, but maybe with that much regen it isn't as big of an issue???

Or should I consider rolling another SS brute? Unfortunally I've gotten several SS toons now as it is.

Thanks for any adivce and guidance!

(trying to stay awake while typing this, forgive my spelling and confusing if it doesn't make much sense)

You might want to think about swapping out Perfect Zinger for Mocking Beratement. Slightly less s/l, slightly more +rech, but bonus of extra +end and some f/c def thrown in.

I didn't see where you had any of the accolade powers that give +hp or +end, but those would make an impact on a */regen.

Dark Melee would have great single target damage and all the +recharge would be useful for keeping Soul Drain up as much as possible. The to-hit debuffs would also be nice. Kinda light on AOE damage. You'd have an end recovery power, so problems with endurance ought to be minimal. Touch of Fear would give you a little bit of control for annoying LTs. Siphon Life would be another heal (still slot it for damage) to go along with your regeneration arsenal.

These are sets I recommend for /Regen:

Kat/BS/TW/Staff: all allow you to get M/R/A defense using primary set powers. You can softcap melee and get ranged/aoe to about 35-36% which will help you mitigate alot of incoming attacks. Redraw is not a big issue. These all have good ST DPS and above average AoE.

DM/Claws/KM/STJ/EM/FM: These all can be good ST DPS, especially claws/DM/STJ, and most have some AoE. Gloom mixed into an attack chain with one of these adds a lot of Hard Target damage.

I do not recommend Energy Melee as the activation times often leave you rooted too long and that can kill a /regen quickly.

Dark Melee is a very popular combo, adds -to hit, and if you slot Soul Drain and Dark Consumption right you get good AoE. On a regen you should slot siphon life like a ST attack and work it into your primary ST attack chain with gloom, midnight grasp and smite. Shadow Maul is also a good AoE for mobs if you line it up right.

Claws, has good DPS, lots of ST damage, and relatively low end cost paired with fast activation times. Throw in good AoE and you have a winner all around for this set.

Katana is another personal favorite as you can use divine avalanche for melee defense, it will stack up to 3 times or more with high recharge, and you can get defense to everything covered well with it, plus the ST DPS is good and it has 2 good AoE powers.

On a scrapper you want to go red side and get ShadowMeld, it is a mini MoG and you want it. On Brutes you don't get that, so take Gloom if you go with something other than a melee set as it will add a large boost to your ST DPS.

(typing this from my phone, sometimes it doesn't come out exactly right)

I'm considering kat or staff atm, I like the faster pace attacking. Staff offers some nice bonuses with the combat ability but will the ST DPS be as good as kat? I've got a couple staff toons but no kat toon so maybe I should give it a try. The idea of using the primary to help defense us a nice plus could allow for more slotting on other things. For kat what powers do I need for the first let's say 10 levels to get him started? Also what app do I need to go bill side or for kat a hero side app? If you have any helpful info to get me started I'll post a build after I've gotten him mid 30s or so to get advice on something I've missed.
Thanks!

I actually have several Katana toons and the ST is better than staff, but staff has better AoE.

To run the top DPS chain you'll want Gambler's Cut, Soaring Dragon, and Golden Dragonfly plus build up. Divine Avalanche of course, if you can work in flashing steel great, if not at least keep the lotus drops for AoE.

Best Chain is BU->GC->SD->GC->GD->GC->DA repeat...if you get into trouble in melee range stack DA until they stop hitting you.

Getting Gloom Villain side will help DPS but cause redraw...that decision is up to you...you could also run something like Earth Mastery, or Fire mastery...which would give you some more AoE, but again redraw with a weapon set comes into play. Energy mastery also gives you some interesting powers too...

I haven't got started on my toon yet, first I wanted to try to put together a build for him to see how it looks. I can get melee soft capped using divine avalanche, but as far as ranged and AoE well I'm not even close. I didn't even get them to be within 1 luck away from soft capping. Been really sick last few days so haven't got to try much, maybe there's something I'm overlooking since I'm not thinking to clearly atm. From what I've got put together so far melee is soft capped, ranged is at 26% and AoE 19%. When you said can softcap M and get ranged and AoE 35-36% was that including katana? If not then which set is it that can get me that close? Or should I go for S/L/E instead?

Thanks!

Yes, you need to use Divine Avalanche to get you to 45% Melee...Ranged and AoE defense will come from 6 slotting your attacks with stuff like Mako's bite, and using Sciroccos Dervish. AoE defense can also be had from Slotting Aegis in Tough...be sure you get tough/weave and Combat Jumping, Manuevers as well...you'll need those to get close, and slot the Defensive powers with 3-4 LotG

-E- This is an old build I had, as I get time today or tomorrow, I will sit down and tweak it to see what I can get out of it for you...but some ideas to get you "unstuck" anyway...

When slotting for a regen brute, is it better to slot for defense or resist bonuses?

lvl 50 - Elec/WP/Mu Mastery Stalker, lvl 50 - Dark/EA/Soul Mastery Stalker, lvl 50 - EM/Nin/Soul Mastery Stalker

Defense. Resist bonuses are often rather trivial ammounts and really aren't worth chasing. If I happen to have the spare slots, I'll sometimes try to fit the +Resist uniques (Shield Wall, Aegis, Impervium Armor) because that can give you around ~25% resist to Psi and ~20% to everything else for 3 slots and decent slotting on Resilience, but even that is really a "I have nothing better to do with these slots so I might as well..."

I got this build to do 44.8% M and 30-31% R/A with Divine Avalanche...had to switch to Agility to get it though...

Planet_J, I found your guide very interesting, but I'm surprised you didn't discuss the Vigour Alpha at all - no pros or cons for it, when it seems tailor-made for Regen. Any thoughts?

Spiritual is actually better for Regen- I found Vigor to be tailormade for Willpower instead.

A Spiritual Total Radial Revamp gives you 33% to Recharge and Healing, and 20% to To Hit Buffs, even 16.5% to stun for Hand Clap or say Boxing. Vigor's Accuracy and End redux aren't needed as much as Recharge by a regen.

You don't need vigor because it doesn't buff recharge. Regen toons have regen in spades already...they need recharge and defense...order of importance is both equally...but if you can't get the defense then definitely get the recharge.

Fair enough, I can accept that approach - and since my Regen Brute isn't quite 50 yet, it saves me incarnate components and time.

One other question if I may - you mention that +hp bonuses aren't needed on a regen since Dull Pain and accolades get us almost at the HP cap. Did you mean that for Scrappers? Because unless my calculations are wrong (wouldn't be the first time...) a fully-enhanced Dull Pain on a Brute buffs HP by roughly 900 hp, to which you can add (again roughly) 300 hp with the three HP-boosting accolades.

That puts us at more-or-less 2700 hp, since at level 50 a Brute's base HP is just shy of 1500. The hp cap on a Brute is a bit over 3200, so we're still missing a whooping 500 hp to reach it - more that enough room for a couple +hp boost, wouldn't you say?

Of course, all this is based on data from Paragonwiki and City of Data, so it could be out of date. But if it isn't, I'm curious what your thoughts on hp bonuses are on a Brute.

[EDIT] : missed a part of Dull Pain on City of Data, edited for accuracy.

Yes...HP bonuses are always necessary on a brute, but scrappers end up capped with DP and accolades. However, most sets that give recharge bonuses also boost HP, and my brute's current build is about 3K HP with Dull Pain up

A Spiritual Total Radial Revamp gives you 33% to Recharge and Healing, and 20% to To Hit Buffs, even 16.5% to stun for Hand Clap or say Boxing. Vigor's Accuracy and End redux aren't needed as much as Recharge by a regen.
People use Hand Clap?

^^ This. People don't really use hand clap, do they?

On the topic of Incarnate Slots:

Anybody looked at the numbers on melee if you are saturated? You can move between IH, Rebirth, and Melee Hybrid, and always have 1000% regen. Are we seeing a return to the old days?

On my Inv/SS tank nah, almost never use it. On my SS/Regen Brute I've actually found it situation-ally useful- If I get overwhelmed, it gives me a few seconds breathing room to allow my Regen to get me back in the fight.

I have been saying Regen is back to the old days since rebirth radial destiny was available.

That adds, what, 200% to regen at the lowest? An that's up full time, right?
