Quote:I guess sending people into space or the moon is a waste of time also.Manic much???
The scariest part about this giant wall of text is this person claims to be a parent. He is the primary rolemodel for his 6 year old and injects words in ALL CAPS to stress a point, uses STFU, GTFO...all over a game which in his own words isn't "a hard game."
Truly shocking and sad. You became heated and made the judgement to post all of this mess.
Now to get back on topic, the whole point of petless MM bashing is because it's the equivalent of asking the Q "If you had to travel from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and your choices for mode of transportation are: walking, a commercial lawn mower or a pogo stick, which do you suppose would get you to Las Vegas faster?
The answer is they can all get you to your destination but the entire exercise would be a waste of time.
And thus we come back to the title of the thread.
We do it because we can..
Again if you don't like the thread don't respond.. Instead your intent on mocking or making a fool out of someone to justify your own ego. What's your point ?
" Oh lets see how silly we can make this person look, teach him a lessen coming here to MY FORUMS and posting this stuff. No one post this stuff in MY FORUMS. This is serius bizness here. "
Its a game stop acting so elitist.
We are not talking about real life and the guy is not asking about Real life issues or questions.. He is asking about a GAME question.
You can clearly see that many that have done the Petless Mastermind have not gone to many high levels. So no one is saying hey it's great and a super secret way to level really fast and you get rainbow ponies when you get to 50.
But this whole bashing really does not make sense what so ever. -
Just wanted to add in for the tankermind you will need defense caps. I know some will chime in Resistance, but I have done some number comparison in another thread showing that because of the number of hits that you will be getting from an AV or even a bunch bosses you have a good chance of loosing pets because of the amount of dps you will be spreading out through bodyguard. Every AV has that one big hit. The one that usually wipes out those not at defense cap for that type of positional or damage type. Prior to being at Defense cap what would happen is my tier 1 would almost be dead and then the next attack from the AV that got in would kill them off. Then as I am resummoning my Tier 1s my Tier 2s would be dropping pretty much a domino effect.
Of course the less pets you have out the more damage that needs to be spread around to the others.. Basically you end up having this unwanted chain effect of having to resummon pets. And there will be a point especially in a AV fight where your pets will be dead and that darn pet summon button will still be on recharge.
Defense cap lessens the amount of hits which between IO set bonuses to regen and Triage beacon allows you and the pets to regen back up.
I usually point myself in front of the AV and the pets either to the left or right of the AV with Triage Beacon in between.
Using Provoke I keep the AV on me and toss I down a Trip mine and other stuff when I can.
Further using provoke helped me to control the mobs and not the pets. Instead of me starting the fight hoping that the pets won't charge in or having the pets start the fight and be ready to recall all the pets back that charged into melee range. Starting the fight is risky business since you will now get the alpha back. But some have noticed when you start the fight, sometimes, just sometimes the pets actually stop behind you and stay a bit and fight from a distance. Where as if you command the pets to attack, some will attack at range then close the gap to get into melee range. So then went from doing 40 dps to 2 dps..
I used Provoke even when I was not at defense cap. But I would send the pets in and then Provoke the mobs to attack me. I would get mix results sometimes, sometimes half would attack me and half the pets or the pets would take there incoming alpha and then they would turn to me. Either way its a win. Just less worrying about having to control the pets and having to yell STAY, PASSIVE, STAY, DEFENSIVE. If the pets get to close now I can have all goto one spot further away as I provoke.
Even if they fixed the Pet AI Provoke still is great for making everyone look at you.
I would level your Robot Traps I think it one of the BEST MM sets around. You get defense cap. Some resistance. You can tankermind much easier with this set.
For regular missions you can be the Tank/Brute with a bit of setting up. I think if anything that is a bit of the down fall, the few moments to set up. You would need players with a small amount of Patience ( GL with that one, hehe ). Where as a Tank / Brute just can rush in and start the fight.
But I cannot express how cool it is to be running around with my Robot Traps knowing I can handle just about anything. -
Quote:Again you don't like the idea of a petless MM then ignore the thread, there are TONS of threads on these forums you can comment on and probably help out in.. I thought the forums was to HELP out players not ridicule them for an idea they might have. Move on and let those that want to help the OP out do so.Are you saying you soloed anything, much less +8, from 1-50 with traps secondary, only? What, you used caltrops damage to kill enemies until acid mortar, then those two until seeker drones? I doubt it. Traps is a great secondary, especially for soloing. I recommended it or storm to actually manage to survive this ridiculous idea. An idea which another has pointed out MAKES NO SENSE WITHIN THE SO CALLED ROLEPLAYING CONCEPT
I am most certainly not talking about level 50 and that's obvious. I'm talking about the way up there. Instead of going corruptor with traps, you're suggesting that because one can do it at 50, one might as well take the shining uniqueness of a class, chuck it out the window, and either a drag on a team or take forever to get there. If one solos the whole way... fine.
Especially for traps and storm, as I've said, if you won't take MM pets why would you take those? That makes the trap secondary worthless.
It is His / Her money NOT YOURS. Stop thinking you can tell someone what they can or can't do with a build, AT or their time..
Further I never said I was or that you can solo +8 at level 1 or 10 or 20..
Storm is a bad choice because of all the toggles it has, which is not including the other toggles that will be needed. Now you can do Primary / Storm if the OP wants to level up to 38 ( the levels for lighting storm ) and then use the 2nd build for petless and tough it out from that point and start slotting IOs with endurance bonuses in the sets. Though Traps is better because of the no toggles and Trip mine is at 35.
Hey look I give you permission to leave a team if a Petless MM joins your team. Okay you feel happy now, Now the petless mm will not drag you down. Your ranting like you see 15 or 20 Petless Masterminds a night or something. I played this game 5 years and I have grouped with 2 or 3 maybe. I see more threads about it then I see actual players doing it. And for the record I would rather have a active Petless MM then someone that goes AFK for every mission -
I have 5 masterminds. 1 is semi petless. I have a 50 Robot Traps tankermind spec which is defense capped. I have done test runs with him and soloed +1 +8 petless to see if it works.
I went whip / traps. I would suggest traps because of simply the issues you read from people posting here.. They get all bent out of shape for some phantom reason. You will be soloing a lot. Since you will be soloing you need a solo build. No other set is going to offer you all the stuff traps does. Basically you can use EVERY power from Traps. You cannot do that with other sets.
The issues I found out as was brought up by some other helpful players which I will pass along.
1. ENDURANCE
2. ENDURANCE
3. ENDURANCE
I picked up some cheaper IO sets to help with the dps and endurance during the lower levels pre 20s.
This definitely not a toon you want to do if your short on cash. I bough SOs asap. Which made it tons easier.
You need to have your build reflect you picking up Stamina as soon as it is available. That will make leveling much easier.
Beyond that Pick up a Defense as soon as you can along with your 3 whip attacks. Basically this way you can have a higher defense then average for your level and eating one purple will almost cap you out. This will allow you to make blues and purples inspirations as needed. Plus you can then slow down your attacks to conserve some endurance when needed.
Really the issue is dragging it out to level 35 to get trip mine. Once you have trip mine and your defenses close to cap your pretty golden. Now you can kick up the mob count for higher exp runs.
My build has the last pet for thematic reasons. If its not for RP reasons then I would suggest level normally with pets to speed it up and at level 35 use your 2nd build for the petless build and run it from that point.
What I do when I am online with my petless ( semi ) Mastermind. I never put myself LFT. In the comments section I make it very clear in caps I am petless MM except for the last pet. You make the decision to invite me and that I will quit the team if someone has any issues with me being petless.
Its long, but it makes it very clear to everyone.
I'm only at 28 or 30 atm with mine. I will not lie, it is a slow run atm. But I find it fun to try it and it gives me something to do when I am tired of running my defense cap toons.
My build also has detonator in it because I really want to see the big demon blow up. -
Quote:Your so wrong, I solo +8 with traps only and I'm at defense cap.And a more constructive reply:
If you're playing a higher level MM, when you lose your pets and you aren't on a team that is providing a lot of defense, your health starts to drop REALLY fast. (And when you're hit through the DEF, that happens still) If you're a useful support role, which is the point of MM secondaries, that means you're also putting your own team at risk.
If you're soloing... A solo MM with no pets has no chance fighting anything worth fighting. No chance. Your damage will be PATHETIC. You'll run out of end well before you kill a Boss, for sure. Most MMs can handle EBs just fine, a few can take AVs. You will struggle with Lieutenants.
If you want support secondaries with actual, powerful attacks in a primary while having limited damage mitigation (but more health), make a Corruptor. The MM attacks aren't even 1/4 as powerful as your pets will be. They're also a waste of end most of the time as you should be supporting.
If you have to go through with this, if you need to make a character that makes you feel "unique and special" and is less useful to a team, and yourself, take the attacks that focus on knockdown/knockback. Don't look at the heal in Necro as viable, it won't save you. Keeping an enemy off their feet, might. Also take Air Superiority. Take all/most of the Fighting Pool for more attacks and defense. Take combat jumping or hover for more defense and S/L res. Take Storm or Traps for secondary debuffs, damage and mitigation. If you don't want to summon THOSE pets, either... Well, wow.
This idea is terrible. Enjoy the hospital.
Your so intent on telling someone how wrong they are your not even thinking. The best thing to do is not even post a comment. You don't like his / her idea no need to belittle the person. Just let it fall on deaf ears. You see a petless MM don't invite them to a team.. Quit the team if the TL invites one. But don't post misinformation. And especially no need to regurgitate your original post into a longer tirade. -
Part of me feels its a bit of a mistake. I already have non tank toons that have max defenses. Now every toon will have much better defenses. Those toons that are Defense capped already will be doing more DPS. I already have run on some decent teams that many where defense capped in which no tank was needed. I think it will make tanks and brute needed even less. I think scrappers will win out since they can with certain sets be defensed capped and deal even more DPS. Pretty much a tank that deals more damage.
There used to be a time when the game had a certain model. Meaning a players should be able to handle 3 minions or 1 LT and 1 minion. But as I read in a Q&A one time, when one of the devs where asked what the current model was. The answer they gave as fun, that they look at what is fun for the player. It sounds great but it also becomes less challenging. I get more of a challenge sometimes out of figuring out how to get a build defense capped then doing some of these missions. Or seeing how fast we can do a SF or TF..
Don't hate the game, I think its fun. But it was more challenging when you relied on a tank a bit more and everyone else had a part to deal with. Now the lines of blurred and you have Scrappers, Dominators, and even some Trap set Defenders / Corruptors tanking. -
You don't see many MM builds that use IO sets ? You must be looking at the other city of heroes forums. Make sure your bookmarks are updated to this this forum. Just about every build on this forum uses IOs in their builds.

Bah I read the title, I thought it was a comment about marriage

My moms old giant wooden spoon will out dps anything you guys are talking about. That thing would Crit every time it hit me as a kid. It was a melee ranged attack all wrapped in one that also had KB and stun effect.

Quote:Right now the only thing you can really do is either send the bots in to attack or start the fight yourself and have the pets back you up.. So I would just go with SOs until late 40s.I'm pretty sure I can't get def capped at 32 anyway. I guess the question is, at 32, should I be frankenslotting or starting to try more for set bonuses?
I find it a waste to be slotting powers now with IOs then just reslotting again with another set of IOs. Unless you have the funds. I guess you could just slot what you got and not do any upgrades.
But you can get high enough in defense cap at this level. Im at 35 and in the mid 30s in defense cap. So one purple IO will bring me to defense cap.
Right now your just leveling so just go with what your lacking. If you bots are all full then move to another power that needs slotting.
I personally do not see a value in a defense set invention at 32 when at 45 the equivalent is much higher.
I would save your money. Again unless it is not an issue for you. -
If your traps it is doable as you can still defense cap and toe bomb mobs. I am doing that myself for a concept build and for a challenge of seeing if I can do it.
I will say though, you need to get stamina as soon as it comes up. The end drain of the attacks with SOs is painful. I ended up slotting some IOs sets just to get by. Sadly Trip mine is 35 levels away. Which is a stinker also.
I am also picking up Detonator, again I don't need the pet so it will be fun having him blow up to protect me. -
Quote:I copied out your build the last one. I noticed your original builds where corrupt as well. The smiley faces gave it awayI have looked at Raterro's build. Its alot more expensive than mine but I dont think its any better. Of course both our builds powers are almost the same its just I use more IOs and he has more Hammios. Pretty sure if you played either build you could take on the same high end content.
Now here is my question.. I noticed when I loaded that last build that it was not defense capped. Now it could be me I had that happen to me before, for some odd reason it required a reboot to get it looking right. But I figure I would ask.
Now if it isn't defense capped then you can understand I have issues with it. Again to each there own, I have played 4 1/2 years not bothering to understand defense cap. I had / have tons of 50 toons on both sides. Pretty much the accuracy damage route.
I came back about 6 to 8 months ago. I started reading the forums for a bit before I came back to see what was going on and such. Some how I ended up reading a bunch of threads about defense cap or comments about it. Once I came back one of my first post was asking about defense cap.
I was linked this thread http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=185167
I read Dechs thread a bunch of times. I followed his wiki links and read them. I looked at other thread Dechs was posting in to get any more insight. All said and done, it clicked in. My first work at defense cap was a Dark Electric Defender. I was amazed but I needed Darkest Night, when my DN Anchor ran off or died I would notice almost immediately I needed to get that back on a mob asap.. My next build was my Robot FF, sadly I had PvP button turned on and it messed up my build many types where capped but I was short in some, still a decent build. Of course I have a better one I will be slotting up for him now. Silverado answered up in a thread on the corruptors forum and I looked at his fire traps build. I went Sonic Traps because it was cheaper as per his comments.
NOW I entered Demigod mode. I was on a team doing the Rikti TF. We did some speed running to fight the 4 Death Riders. We got to the last room with the 4 of them in the sewers, and the team fell apart. Well everyone but me. I was able to move back away to the tunnel entrance. Use the vet tp power to tp everyone to me. I then proceeded to toe bomb all the mobs that where coming to get me and made wakes and Break Frees for those that need it. Only the Tank released because he had the defense to run through the tunnels to the end. I cannot begin to tell you how amazed and praise I received from the group.
Next step, God mode.. I now see Traps is super great. I make a Robot Traps. The build I have listed in Raterro thread. I just can't tell you how cool it is. I have a robot traps, sonic traps, AR Traps, and a semi petless ( last pet only ) DS Traps I am slowly working on.
The end result to me is this. You have more chances of getting hit if not defense capped. Your bodyguard mode will only protect you so much. And your healing is not fast enough to keep up.
Right now my build allows me the time to regen my health because I am not getting hit so much.
Further another advantage ( if you want to call it that ) is you no longer have to run around going nuts trying to control your pets. Now I just provoke the mobs to come to me. Really I don't need provoke that much, as all I really need to do is just walk in and show my face. I need Provoke to call them back when they decide to run.
What is great about Raterro build is the Damage increase you get from it, of course among other things. -
If your going to use IO's, then I would suggest Raterro thread. He has a great build listed. I would challenge someone to make it better. I took his build and dumb it down. I can solo +1 +8 without issues. +2 +8 pretty much in similar fashion only I cannot pull as many as I can with +1 +8. Raterro would start at +2 +8 and should be able to take on +4 +8. I have fought several GMs with the build with no issues as well.
I'm working on a Positional Defense cap AR Dev Defender currently, then I am going to jump back on my Robot Traps and start building up to Raterro build. -
Have the option to use dual pistols for Assault Rifle and vice versa
-
I'm still new to the stalker scene myself. I did DB NIN as some mentioned. I was able to cap out all the positional defense I think.
-
I do a bit of both, I will kill a few on the way to the end of the mission. I make sure the mob is solo or just 2 mobs when possible. I kill them and then run as I restealth. Kill another single or double and run as I restealth.
I was looking at the mission bonus at the end and it wasn't so high when I just killed the mobs needed at the end. But as someone mentioned you can do a TONS of story archs with a Stalker. Though OB makes that obsolete now. -
Scorpions shield if you have the patience to do the missions.
Once you pick frozen armor you are stuck to looking like ( insert color here ) ice cube all the time. You could have the greatest costume in the game. It still gonna look like carp because you a giant ice cube. -
Maybe they just thought you weren't tough enough and quit on you.
I can only imagine they really do know about the issue. I pretty much think many or at least enough people posted a bug report on it. One week alone I was a bit annoyed with it and posted a report 4 or 5 times during the week about it. I have been off my Masterminds a bit, hopefully they will one day really tweak the Pet command and AI to allow players a bit more ability to generate commands that mean something to them. I do not feel that all the pets can have the same commands, since the pets are so different. -
Quote:24 views and nobody's said anything? =/ No advice on how to improve or thoughts on how it'll do?
I will disagree with anonymoose on the traps not being popular. Personally I couldn't think of any other way to go tankermind besides Traps.
Again Personally I think Traps for any AT is one of the BEST sets because it has so many fire and forget quick recharging powers.
But that being said, I think some might say maybe you should look down the page about 10 or 12 post below your name and you will see a thread which pretty much is another Robot Traps thread. In that thread there are builds. One if which happens to be mine. Mine is a cheap build based off the OPs original build, which is pretty much Awsomesauce. I would love to see someone make another build better.
If you lack the funds I would go with my build and then aspire to one day build up to Raterro build.
As for your build it is not at defense cap. I think the math has proven already that bodyguard mode with less then defense cap is not enough to sustain the life of your pets. You basically do not have enough Healing to keep the pets alive vs AVs and GMs. Of course unless you have some other technique to keep the pets alive.. EG keeping the pets out of aoe range of the AV or GM. But then If they are too far out of range, they might loose supremacy and you might loose BG Mode.
Now I am NOT saying that anyone else with another build or different secondary is bad. All MM are good ( well most ), but if your looking to be a tankermind you need defense cap.
So do a tiny bit of searching and you will find what your looking for. -
Quote:You know, maybe your right. But at least I took the time to post up the build and then rework it..Uh... thanks, but not quite what I was looking for. I *like* /Sonic, and I want to play it on a defender because of the high debuff values. Also, I'm interested in what powers are essential early, as opposed to the ones that can be put off for a bit. For example, I'm fairly sure Web Grenade is skippable unless you're trying to fight AVs, and so it's not really all that much help before about 20, in which case taking Caltrops at 1 and the second blast at 2 looks like a better way not to just rely on your team (which I won't always have, by the way) to kill stuff.
Also, if you're trying to cap positional defences, why are you taking Scorpion Shield? It's S/L/E, right?
So, yeah. Anyone got any insight into the early career of Traps/Sonic.
Its a bit more then you did..
Okay so lets do it this way. Your so smart then use the search option. This question has already been asked and answered at least a dozen times. And several times in the past week or so. Don't be so lazy that you can't flip back 4 or 5 pages.
Further are you asking for help or just looking for a pat on the back to reaffirm your own statements ?
Umm does that work for you now.. -
This is what I use with no issues and what I think great success. I have seen better builds which of course cost more money. My method was to completely go defenses only picked an attack power if I had no other choice.
-
@Maelwys
I like the build, I do notice the defenses are in the 30s how are you finding the use of aid other and triage. I would imagine your getting a lot hits come in and I am wonder or trying to get a feel how that is working for you ?
Since your pets are more then likely out of Triage beacon range how is the regen on your pets ?
Basically I am wondering, because I am thinking if you received a couple of bad hits from a GM or a AV your pets would be getting wiped out.
Is healing you and the pets a big part of the chain of attack persay ?
Again trying to get a feel for your routine.
I honestly I made my tankermind build and he has been dormant for sometime. I did the +1 +8 and +2 +8 and I tried +3 +8. Doing +3 +8 were very slow runs which I was not much my style. Running +1 +8 Seems very much perfect and from some of the reading I have done people on these forums say there is no difference in the drop rates between +1 or +3.. I also did some solo runs without the pets on +1 +8 and it was doable as well. Basically I felt satisfied that the build was great for anything available for this game and it pulled more then its weight on a team. So I moved on to other experiments.
Ultimately I am going to do Raterro build which would make I think for one Ultimate super Mastermind.
