  1. Here is the deal, in today's game you can have a build created on Single Origin Enhancers and there will be enough players on the team that will cover up your short comings, for the most part. No one is really going to know how crappy your build might be unless they are reading this and decided to do the same. Then you will have a problem when 5 out of 8 players are in SOs trying to run some higher settings against certain mobs.

Perfect example of this. I have a Petless Mastermind DS Traps that is defense capped but I wanted the incarnates. So I created a SO only build with my 2nd build and ran the Incarnate missions with all my pets, thus giving the illusion I had a clue but I really sucked. I am currently short of unlocking destiny but have T3 Cardiac, T3 Lore, T2 Reactive and T3 Ion. I wanted to unlock an accolade so I had to do LRSF. I did it yesterday which took 40 minutes with a bunch of IOed and Incarnate players. They didn't even know or care I sucked. The reality is my Petless mastermind has higher defenses and higher DPS output then my SO build but other players would not get it because they would only see 1 of my pets out and would just complain that I am gimped as many are dumb and do not understand the game mechanics. So not to hear the cries and complaints I pull out this less effective SO build for the incarnate missions and all is good.

The only issue you will have if someone calls you out. Basically you die a million times and then see your in SOs or when your gimpyness is taking down the team. I have to say that really sometimes you just need that one guy on the team to be a bit better to make the missions run a bit smoother. An example of this was a mastermind which had fly that didn't use it in a cave mission and kept falling into the holes in the floor below us aggroing the mobs under us.

That was my general statement about the differences.

But now if your looking to do some thing beyond the norm like solo 4/8 setting with a mastermind. Then choices matter. Example your not gonna do 4/8 on ninja Trick arrow. Melee pets will have a bit more issues against AVs.

Each pet usually has something going on for them that you can work off of. Robot will give you a defense bubble, Demons give you some resistances and a light heal that cycles every 10 seconds or so. I think Mercs give you Maneuvers buff. You can leverage these powers when used with the proper secondaries. EG Robot Traps, Robot Force Field as the bubbles stack. Robots Dark similar because in a sense the -ToHit debuff works the same as defenses. Demon summoning Traps works as does Demons Summoning Thermal because of the resistances.

So your choices are make what you like understanding the short comings of the build or go for some max build. Max builds will cost some money.

  3. After reading this I logged in and wanting to learn a bit I used a empty build to test stuff out. Basically I looked at what I was buffed unslotted and then with 1 resistance SO and 2 resistance SO. I also looked to see what 2 Heal SOs offered for the heal as well.

For the sake of just general knowledge here is the info. So everyone knows ( or might not ) the Ember Demon is the one that is giving you your heal and resistance buffs. The Gargoyle is nothing but an attack pet.

    These are MY NUMBERS
Unslotted Tier 2 pet ( Ember Demon and HellFire Gargoyle )
    Smash Lethal 15%
    Fire 19.99%
    Cold 9.99%
    Toxic 15.00%
    Energy Negative 0%
Abyssal Empowerment upgrade gives the Ember Demon his heal ability. It shows up as 107 in combat window.

1 Slotted SO of Resistance and Heal
    Smash Lethal 18%
    Fire 23.99%
    Cold 11.99%
    Toxic 18.00%
    Energy Negative 0%
    Heal 142

2 Slotted SO of Resistance and Heal
    Smash Lethal 21%
    Fire 27.99%
    Cold 13.99%
    Toxic 21.00%
    Energy Negative 0%
    Heal 178

Beyond these resistance numbers your not getting anything else except what you can get from set bonuses and powers.

I also looked at what the Ember Demon and HellFire Gargoyle resistance numbers. These numbers are based on what the Ember was giving out on top of what the Hellfire already had inherently.

    Base Hellfire resistance
    Smash Lethal 31%
    Fire 24.%
    Cold 12.40%
    Toxic 37.20%
    Energy Negative 0%

    Base Ember resistance
    Smash Lethal 24.80
    Fire 37.20%
    Cold 12.40%
    Toxic 24.80%
    Energy Negative 0%

I didn't check slotted, but I would assume it would follow the same route that it did for me. So respectively each SO resistance would add 3,4,2,3 percentage of resistance.

If you added the (2) resistance unique IOs to Hell on Earth pet you would get an additional 20% resistance.

The bubbles in a nutshell will offer 23% resistance.

So unslotted your PETS are going to be in the 50% range and higher in their resistances and fire resistance will be put over the top at 104%.

Between quickly slotting 3 Bloodmandate sets, 1 steadfast 3 to defense, Aegis and Reactive armor and picking up Scorpion shield I was able to get my typed defenses into the high teens and low twenties.

I am thinking you can either try to cap out smash lethal defense and get the rest of your defenses in the mid 20s and then just play off the whole pet resistance and bodyguard mode angle.

Or go with Soul Mastery dark embrace and Oppressive gloom. Dark Embrace because it covers 4 types of resistances compared to other shields. Oppressive Gloom of course is a great power to have as it just leaves you dealing with bosses sometimes. I was thinking maybe using spring attack combined with Oppressive gloom to start off the attack. Or group teleporting into the group of mobs. Of course in a team group teleport could put those improperly configured teammates into some problems. Which regardless you will be blamed.

Again as I mentioned I only slotted the pets and resistance shield buffs and one PPP/Epic pool power to get some numbers. You can get much better just by slotting in a bunch more.

    Hope this all helps.
  4. Basically similar to whats going on now just random respawn points with no home base spot. More then enough respawn spots that will prevent camping or player choice respawn area when he dies.

    You resurrect at full.

Timed is just who killed the most. Less points for repeat kills by the same person.

Object fights, hold a spot for X amount of time, Destroy a Device.

Players could use those Gladiator unlocks to add mobs into the fight to help them. Just a way to bolster up the numbers
  5. As I posted in another thread further down. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=276287

I did test on the Practice Dummy in RWZ. My toon was a Demon Pain. But I did not use any of my Pain buff powers. All I did was pretty much summon the pets and upgrade them and let them loose on the target dummy. The pets usually have Blood Mandate set slotted in them. I did have endurance drain but the pets kept fighting. The Tier 2 pets did not have the endurance issue that the T3 Prince did. But regardless both kept on fighting for 8 minutes. I cannot think of any steady nonstop fight your going to have for 8 minutes. Even as chaotic and hectic the Prisoner escape phase might be in BAF even then you have some slight lull moments and regardless that is not an 8 minute fight.

So trust me the last thing I want to do is come here and give the indication I am looking have a debate or fight or heated discussion of any sort. But someone needs to really show me what they are talking about. I think even a picture along with a build and a bit of what was going on to get the drain.

Do incarnates matter ? Maybe because I have cardiac ? Maybe it some undocumented advantage. Maybe they did some updates recently but just didn't mention it. I have no clue honestly. But I would just slot them normally unless someone can show otherwise about this drain.

    Huntsman Build?

Very fun build to play for sure.

You can easily either go range cap and perma pets or defense cap with them. They do have a limited number of attacks, but because of the buffs they have those attacks really do some serious damage. I was able to solo 4/8 Malta Group with my build not long ago. I know many that cannot do that and I have a bunch of defense cap toons that cannot do that, but this little sucker could.

My only gripe is the weapons choices. I wish they had more and I really wish the guns were a bit longer. The attacks just don't fit with some of the graphics.

BTW that is some of the gripe that mastermind players have. They would really like some of the set bonuses to apply to the pets. It would really help some struggling combos. Though I could see it also putting other combos like Robot Traps more over the top then it is now ( not that its a complaint, I have one ).
  8. Just commenting I happen to be surfing the forums looking for something new and I think there was another build maybe a page back which was s/l capped and perma with some purple sets that you might consider looking at. I think it had 3 purple sets.

Might be worth your while just to compare sets and numbers.

There is a thread exactly on this combo which proves it does work. Plus yesterday I seen it done during a BAF. As one trick it might be It's pretty cool. As might have been mentioned pick up Barrier and your double posse of 20 is capped defense and resistance wise.. Pretty massive I think

  10. You know I second Angelxman81 comment. To be honest I just never looked at what was unique to Stalkers and in actuality its a good simple table to keep in mind when looking to make a Stalker. It's straight and to the point..

Stalkers are like like Device in many senses. Both are cool concepts but other stuff does it better. My only stalker is a DB Nin which of course is a defense cap build.
  11. I ran 10 radio missions on 2/8 setting. I did see my pets endurance bar drain down to about 1/2, but I did not have any full endurance drain.

What I am going to do is just have my pets attack the target dummy in RWZ and see how long it takes to drain their endurance.

    This is my build

    EDIT: Pratice Dummy Results

I started at 20:32 Eastern, I went to 20:41 Eastern. I did that because I didn't know how many seconds into 32 I was into. So I did a full 8 minutes nonstop fight.

I summoned the pets gave them both pet upgrades and did nothing else. I gave them the command to attack and just let them go. The prince got down to what I can say was 10 percent and stayed in that range for the fight, but he kept on fighting. When he did foot stomp he would drop down to 5 percent, but then jump right back up. If you target the pet and look at his endurance in the target window it seems much less, but looking at the pet window it seems much higher.

The Demons pets were much higher by the end of the fight they were at about 20 percent endurance.

After the fight it took the Prince about 26 seconds to get to full endurance.

If I am doing something wrong, please let me know. If someone thinks I'm BSing please let me know. I would be more then happy to have you hang around with me for another 8 minutes or whatever.

End result I can only say at this time it must be some sort of build issue for some other players.

(7.5 for each drone, enhanced, 4 drones total). Won't work for AV's because of their debuff resistance, but everyone else in the room will be missing a lot.

I'm not really shooting for soft cap, though. If I want to use a softcapped defense strategy I'd build a Thugs/FF or Bots/FF. My goal with DS/Traps is to maximize damage output. Kill them so fast it doesn't matter how tough they are. Hopefully subdue them in the early minutes so they never get a chance to shoot me at all.

I'm not saying softcap isn't great. It's just not the only game in town, and certainly not the game that DS plays to the best. Besides that, my Prince can tank better than me anyway. The Prince's S/L defense will be 14% base + 15% FFG + 10% PetDefProcs + 15% (effectively) from the Seekers' ToHit debuff = 54%. That's not bad.
    I wasn't serious..
  13. Odd issue I am noticing with Beam and Nrg

When I use boost range with Disintegrate along with Snipe which should give 100% spread I notice that because I am far away I get no spread or disintegrate on the mob. Similar to when Trip mine is placed and your too far out for it to work for whatever reason.

As a side note I am clearly noticing that disintegrate plus snipe is not giving me spread 100% of the time. I even have my Disintegrate bright green to make sure I see it on the target, though I am lining up snipe right after so its a no brainer.

But I will admit that Overcharge + Aim+Build up = Dead group.

    I'm only in SOs atm..
  14. I point anyone asking to this thread because its all here.

Go for it.. I think its a great idea.

If you can squeeze in afterburner you might be able to cap out your defenses for cap for those few seconds almost PFF.
  16. Just gonna repeat what I usually say.

The wheel has been invented with this. Your not gonna think of anything new and I am not saying you are.

There are tons of robot traps builds on these forums being the most popular build and then Traps itself being popular followed by Dark.

There are 2 builds with Robot Traps because the Protector bot offers you a bubble as well. The first build is getting defense cap with the assistance of the bubble from the protector bot. The 2nd why which is the way I go is defense cap without the protector bot bubble. What happens is the protector bubble now gives you defenses in the low 50s. To me I find it helpful for incarnate stuff or even if I get a debuff on me.

This thread has my build and another good build, but I am sure if you do a search for Traps alone in this forum you will find more Traps build then you can shake a stick at.

On a personal note I think you went too hami crazy. You need to compare you build to a bunch of others and really feel your build is best on several points. Then post the build.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=276114
  17. Not the best build Berzerker_NA

I had a bunch to say but I just deleted it all and made it simple and to the point.

My build for Robot Traps is in this thread by Transient

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=276114

Swap out robots and put in Demons then fix what might be missing or slotted improperly. Then pull both builds up side by side and compare. Nutshell, long story short my build is better. Then work on beating my build.

To me a build takes days upon days to build before you post it up. When someone looks at the build you want them to say your over slotted in this power or reslot this power this way. Basically little critique as possible.

But in all honestly the wheel has been invented with this. You are not going to find a secret build no one has discovered yet with DS Traps or any mastermind / traps. You could do a search for Traps and just see what you get on the forums. Then just copy a build some players are giving thumbs up to.
  18. Just so I understand..

I haven't had to check this out myself and I am the kind of guy that needs to see for myself. But when I am looking at the pets bar are we talking full endurance drain or only 50% or something ?..

I know it should be common sense that drain means empty bar, but who knows with this game and these pets. While I am looking for an empty bar not knowing it common knowledge that it has to be less then 50% or something special.
  19. Usually you don't slot more then 3 LOTG.
Its usually +recharge, Defense and then either defense/endurance or defense/recharge depending on the power.

Just pull the 2 mids up side by side to see the difference.

Take out 1 def IO slot each in TTM, Weave, and Cloaking Device. You could get rid of all boxing slots (it kills me to see that).

You could fully slot TTT with Guassians and give BU 3 recharge IOs (better end on TTT and faster recharge on BU).

Then you could use your extra slots to put in tough and/or armor. Get your S/L resists up to 31% and rest at around 11%.

Or slot out that third cone PPP. For more damage and possible +recharge with Positron's Blast in there.

    My 2 cents.

Your forgetting about cloaking device suppression.

  22. Post a build and lets see exactly what you have and how you have it slotted.

I have a numerous Traps builds including a DS ( last pet only ) / Traps petless build which is defense capped. Traps is King, if you have Traps then you can defense cap regardless of the AT.

First off Traps is pretty much stationary leveling up. So your setting up for the fight. I pick up Triage Beacon and FFG as soon as they pop. I then slot them up to get the most out of FFG and Triage Beacon up as fast as I can.

As was mentioned afterburn probaby was not the best idea.

At level 24 I would go for something along these lines. At level 25 I would 3 slot hasten. I would just have hasten on auto.

Now your defenses in are in the mid 20s and your pets are mixed in the teens. Then start mixing up slotting last pet with some slots in acid mortar and poison traps. Poison traps is great for stopping mobs in their tracks when you need a moment to screw your head on straight in a crazy fight.

If your looking at the long list of set bonuses it is not listing the defense bonus from actual powers. EG your seeing the set bonus from Weave but not the defense number that Weave itself gives.

Here is a thread about Beam Device with a few builds in there to give you some ideas..

You can either stick a generic endurance reduction in the slotting or frankenslot resistance and heal IOs in Demons and Slow IOs in Demon Prince.
    I am not saying NO.

I just never really looked over that much at my Demon Pain. So it could be the guy in the middle of the room with the gorilla suit that I just didn't notice. But for sure I will log in my DS Pain and not buff any of the pets and have a few runs on 2/8 setting to see what it looks like for myself.

What I will say is if so, then I consider it a bug. Simply because I am being force to slot 2 pets in a special way which clearly limits my build. I loose 2 set bonuses which can be big depending on what set it is.

Now I can see the flip side and see someone saying well if you get the set bonus you loose the endurance so its a choice really. My only answer to that is its a pretty lousy choice. If so without a doubt it will be my first 50 I delete.

I just feel the pets should be able to hold their own and not be tied down to some slotting technique that completely drives the rest of the build.
  25. Just wondering if anyone has tried soloing a TF or SF. I am thinking ITF would be a prime candidate.

Just wondering if you would have to go the old way of killing off the nictus first or going straight for Rom. I would assume the Nictus would heal off the pets as well.

I don't really know I'm just tossing ideas around. I have about 8 or 9 toons I would like to try this out with, but my Robot Trap MM would be the first consideration.
