This is a build I was mulling over. My Thorn Plant build has been stuck at 38 since it first came out as I just didn't have the understanding over Dominators and such.
I went more range defense. Just before posting I had spore burst in the build 3 slotted for range defense, but removed it and replaced it with spirit tree. I lost 1 point of range defense but I think spirit tree is just gonna benefit me a bit more then spore burst.
My thought is go Alpha Incarnate and get the defense bonus and just be a few points shy of range defense cap with the aid of one purple inspiration. I think its decent protection to start a fight.
I went cold for extra hit point boost when needed from Hoarfrost and for sleet and ice storm. Just 2 other AOE to combine with Seed of confusion, Carrion Creepers and every other AOE mess.
I'm not to fond of Carrion Creepers slotting and I guess you could franklenslot it for procs. I know many say its a great power to do that with so I might just drop again my range defense a bit more and put all the procs into it.

Not a burn out question. I Know I just posted that thread. I should have made it a general thorns / plant thread Q&A.
Can I have out 2 Spirit Trees like I can with Triage Beacon if my recharge is high enough or does the new one over write the old one ? -
Title says it all.
If I summon Carrion Creepers and then use burnout will I get 2 Creepers running ? -
Quote:Your not S/L capped.Okay, I've been tweaking & tweaking, building and rebuilding this AT. Now its time to go ahead and build into it. THis is what I have come up with. It's S/L Def is soft-cap to 45.6% with the help of Nerve Radial Paragon. 156.25% Haste with Hasten activated, and 47% Accuracy.
Tell me what ya guys & gals think for this build. Failure or Workable?
It is a melee'er type style of Dominator (IMO) so I think the S/L Def is a necessity incase some situational control powers misses.
http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...4DE5BF0DDE04EC
Your forgetting about Stealth suppression. If you look at the info for Stealth the 3% you get is the true number you should be using as it is the value you will get when Stealth is suppressed.
End results your at 42%.
I would also get rid of phase shift and pick up Thorn burst personally. Even one slotted I think you will find more use for it then PFF. -
I said this a while back myself. It would make it a more viable power once again.
-
Quote:Thanks Plasma,You can get 1 merit on a 1-week lockout no matter what you've done, and 1 per episode the first time you do each.
So with 5 episodes out and a character who CAN do them all but has never done any of them, you can get 6 merits in a sitting.
I went out and checked it out with fresh toon and got the answers. So it seems I can score about 100 merits at 5 per toon. Each one has done the first story arch already.
I also noticed that under the Badge tab there is a SSA section so I can see what I have done or not done yet.. Which saves me some time as well.
So now I need to see what I am gonna do with all these merits. -
MK sorry again I feel as if you want to paint the rosey picture of Time Bomb and Trip mine for Devices but do not want to admit at least the weakness of it.
Trip mine has it's uses solo, but personally I think getting range defense out weighs Trip mine.
BUT as for TIME BOMB..
Here is it's down fall. If you take ONE POINT of damage while placing Time Bomb you not only loose the full endurance as if you placed it, it also resets the timer as if you placed it. End result you have to wait for it to reset and get nothing out of it.
Now if Time Bomb did 9k worth of damage unslotted then by all means its great. But it does not do that slotted so it sucks because it is so easy to fail with this power.
As far as your endurance comment. Try to place Trip mines on a bed of caltrops and let me know how it works out for you. You just keep clicking that Trip mine button and tell me what happens. Again Trip mine is at least fair enough to just eat your endurance and not reset the power.
But at the end this is a circular debate. So I direct you or anyone else back to my original post. You can have Time Bomb or Trip Mine and just give me the option for something else. We both are happy.
Even if I had a grenade that deals 1/2 the damage of Trip mine for half the endurance and half the recharge I would have no complaints. If I had the old Auto Turret back instead of Time Bomb I would no complaints. -
MK I get what your saying about Time Bomb and Trip mine. But I honestly think your failing to say that the only time your going to place either one of these is at the beginning of a fight. Further your failing to say that if you fail to place Trip mine you will loose the endurance. If you fail to lay down a Time Bomb you not only loose the endurance but also loose the Time Bomb as well until it recharges. So at most if you try to place a trip mine and fail you have about 3 other attempts before your endurance drops so low you will not be able to.
I think everyone by now knows about the whole toe bombing idea and laying down 20 mines, which btw laying down 20ish ( will say 20 ) at a really good recharge rate of 5 seconds per recharge your talking between cast time of 5 seconds and recharge a total of 200 seconds to place 20 bombs. Your talking over 3 minutes from start to finish. Again 5 seconds is a real good recharge number.
Personally I think many would agree eating 3 or 4 reds inspiration and hover blasting would probably prove better results in a shorter amount of time compared to 3 minutes.
The only time I can see Time bomb being of any worth while value as well as Trip mine is with Traps which affords you defense cap and allows you to place bombs at will.
The end result is if your talking about optimal builds Time Bomb or Trip mine for that matter does not have much room in a device build. I am not counting it out all together, but it is very limited power compared to many other T9 powers or even other device powers.
Yes in a concept build by all means this is all a moot point. But I am sure we are not discussing concept builds here. -
Quote:Sorry to nitpick. Are you saying ONE character can get 3 to 4 merits on Who Will Die ? Reason I ask is when I first did them I got 2, one from the first time doing it and then another for repeating the story. So you know I was doing the very first one.
I had a bunch of characters who hadn't done ANY "Who Will Die" so I could get 3 or 4 alignment merits on them in, like, one day.
I have not done any of the other Who Will Die story parts. Are you saying you will get 1 extra merit for each part of Who Will Die story you have NOT done before ?
The reason I ask is I have 20 level 50s and if on average I can get 5 merits out of the SSA per toon, that is a lot of merits. At least 100.
I guess I should just log in and test this out myself but figured I would ask in case someone else is in the same boat and reads this. -
Quote:Everything depends on Secondary set. But for some reason people want to compare a DP/MM blaster to a DP/Dark blaster. It just does not make sense. If I use soul drain on my dp dark and I hit a bunch of mobs with soul drain and then fire off hail of bullets I am going to kill a bunch of mobs. Further for that short time I have that buff I am 1 shotting 1 white cons and 2 shotting yellow cons with SOs.only level 37 dp/dark corr level 35 dp/ice blaster...blaster kills red minions in 2 shots but i dont use my secondary however on my corr (which im finding really fun) i use my secondary alot but im killing groups (minions orange reds)
start out fear.. hail of bullet..(genrally half health) then Executioner's shot on each if need be Dual Wield
if fear resistant Suppressive Fire + darkest night
so long as i can hit im fine (had trouble with some level 53 nems but that was more cause they were +4 to me and due to level they did take afew hits to kill but i wouldnt normally face +4s by choice
bosses require more but with 2 holds there not a problem
only attack i have a problem with is Piercing Rounds if i manage to hit 2 targets its a miracle with out lining them up perfectily hardily use it on my corr but my blaster uses it as a ST attack (throwing the guns in the air is dumb but ive never face planted while doing it)
and
im in love with hail of bullets animation....
each time i use it i follow the animation and not the damage its doing
*edited to add i wonder if the reason people think it sucks is cause of the secondary?
As far as piercing round goes. What I find that works is you walk backwards and the mobs tend to line up. Again assuming you can. But when you can it works. Again with my soul drain working I try to line up a few mobs with Piercing round when I can to kill a few off. -
LOTG should be Defense, Defense Endurance, + Recharge.
The endurance increase will not affect your endurance ratio.
Scorpion Shield 3 slotted with the above IOs slot the other 3 IOs in what ever will give you recharge. EG Flash arrow. End result you keep the recharge and Flash arrow is improved.
I think Acid arrow will not have an issue if you remove the Accuracy. You could slot it with Accuracy / Debuff from Analyze weakness and loose 20% accuracy but gain a large debuff. -
Depends on his build.
Is he range cap hover blaster ?
Is he recharge ?
Do either of you have a clue about creating builds ?
Are you in SOs ?
Are you in IOs ?
How much are you going to spend or not spend ?
What AT won't you play ?
You both can play off Disintegrate so you both can be Beam EM. I hate mentioning this secondary but it seems to work well with Beam primary.
Device..
Blue Centurion had a post a while back about Beam Device and as I played with the build I could see you can obtain range defense cap with it very easily. So in some respecs it was a bit better then Beam Energy per say.
You could drop caltrops in front of you to prevent or slow the mobs from getting at you both. Smoke grenade to give you a bit more defense for 60 seconds and a larger perception debuff as your zipping around missions to get to the end if needed. -
I agree about Time Bomb being useless, even solo..
I disagree with Poster TGIA about Caltrops. Time Bomb should be as good as Caltrops is. I can close off 2 areas with Caltrops due to recharge. I can make SOA stealth strike ready mobs appear and not be able to stealth thus killing that one big power they have that can out right kill you with one shot.
No one in this gaming company will ever admit that stuff is lacking and they just cannot fix it. To admit is to admit defeat. It would be the war cry of every competitor MMO out there against CoH. We can do what CoH can't.
Unfortunately it has become apparent just from the numerous statements that Devs have said about powers sets that it is just not that easy to modify them as it might be compared to games like Champions Online ( yes I said it, read it while you can ). Unfortunately CO Devs had first hand info on CoH and they knew what not to do. What CO is lacking is content and various ways to level up that CoH does not. But getting off track. But what CO does have is costume parts out the backside and what appears a easier time at creating different power effects and items.
I have always said and I will restate it here yet again.. Do not, do not, do not create a new power set Devs.. Instead add alternate powers to existing sets. This would make the old set new to everyone. This would also preserve that old power that those few that still want it. It's a win/win and makes EVERYONE HAPPY. You level up and you find you have a choice of power A or B from that set available. A is old and B is new.
Now that sounds great but unfortunately it goes back to what my previous paragraphs mentioned. This is not easy for them to do. The code is just not written this way for them to do so. At least that is what I am GUESSING from just reading the comments they say. Example them saying how difficult the whip attacks where to make when Demon Summoning was coming out and for the time it takes to make a full set of whip attacks they can make 2 other sets.. Again that seems to be the magic statement I keep hearing, for the time it takes to make this one I can make 2 of another. I also heard that comment being tossed around with the last pet issue on beast mastery mastermind set.
Further from what I have heard and surmise it is just simpler for them to create a new set instead of messing around with and old set that much. To me I consider Traps the new Device. I also think that maybe certain AT where written by different people so I also think that some code might be a bit more complicated then others. Again as some know when writing code there are numerous ways to get the same results depending on who is writing it. A very simple example I did with Excel in a long drawn out process what someone showed me how to do with SQL in a few steps. I was happy I figured it out but it killed me how easy it was in SQL.
End result this is why Time Bomb ( or fill in that power ) is lacking.. -

Quote:I disagree, after 20+ years dealing with the court system I have seen many crazy things. I think having the right situation arise I can see someone making a claim. Further gambling definition varies from state to state. Also remember the game company does not have to create a monetary value for these items an outside source like a farming website can. All you need is a establish known value.Irrelevant, because this doesn't fit the LEGAL DEFINITION of gambling - that being where money is staked and money is the prize ( Or anything that can be directly exchanged for money such as poker chips ). Otherwise, M:tG cards would be illegal.
Personally after reading how so many people were successful with 24 super pack and I picked up a 24 and a 12 for a total of 36 rolls and got squat, I am a bit tempted to pay for more points thinking that this time around I might get better rolls. So there is a gambling taint to these cards. -
@Fulmens ( or really anyone who knows )
Your doing 6 hero merits every 2 or 3 days ? 1 per week for SSA, 1 for 10 tip missions. This is per toon.
So I am assuming your doing multiple toons to do this.
Sorry if I am asking to give away a secret not my intention. I think by now from my posting on these forums you can see I am just not as sharp as you guys/gals in this area of the game. I would rather ask and get shot down then not ask.
I just know that if its one of you guys doing something I like this, I am missing out on something I should know. As I mentioned in another thread I just learned about the merit reward in SSA missions several weeks ago. -
Quote:Yes to all the aboveDo you want all your defenses soft-capped? Do you want the maximum number of rapid-recharging pets? Are you going to taunt to keep your pets from taking damage, or rely on the incarnate Barrier power? Do you want lots of Leadership to make your pets (and teammates) strong, or maximize your own power instead? In general, do you want extreme DPS or would you rather be very survivable?

Quote:The problem is I do not see it possible to get range capped with Dark.Spring attack and dark pit are both nice tools for you to mitigate the return alpha, but unnecessary. At the very least get stealth + stealth proc, or SS + stealth proc so you can approach the enemy undetected. Then it's just a matter of jousting your PBAOEs.
Practice this on lowbie mobs that can't hurt you, in perez for example. Stand in the middle of the mob, then take a hop back (combat jumping really helps here, SS adds to the momentum), immediately as or after you take that hop, fire off soul drain (keep holding the back and jump button/keys). By the time the animation finishes you will already be 20-30 ft away from the mob ready to let loose your aoes. Once you get comfortable with that try superspeeding or hopping into the mob and then the above to practice your approach. You should never be in melee range for more than a fraction of a second this way, even if inferno or soul drain takes 3 seconds to animate. The same principle applies to melee attacks like smite or shadow maul or MG.
You can also alter your jump direction mid air FYI (CJ is required here). One thing I do with my melee types is hop out of a pack of mobs just far enough to use energy torrent, and at that point change directions back into the mob as I fire off energy torrent.
If you can master all the above you will have no need for dark pit or spring attack with a ranged def build, and I can promise that you will see the game in a new light.
I am working my way back to hero side after just finishing unlocking Scorpion Shield.
I want to further say that Death Shroud is doing 20 points of damage to even con mobs and soul drain is kicking that damage way up into the 30s and 40s. Soul Drain is the power you really want to make sure is gonna hit every mob possible. It crushes me when I fire it off in a group of 10 mobs and only hit 5 or 6. I also wish that Soul Drain lasted a bit longer then it did.
The nice thing about Death Shroud is it allows me to ignore almost dead mobs in melee range as I know the tick will eventually kill them off.
But without a doubt my DP dark build is something that cannot survive well on SOs. I just die waayyy tooo muucch right now. I can't wait to slot IOs into the build.
I just don't understand why they made dark so melee regardless of how much dps it might do. -
Quote:Sadly with 36 packs hardly got squat from the elemental costume set, I got face, gun, back, legs. I do have about 22 revive self and 26 revive others though. I picked up ATO for AT's I don't even have. And even with the ATO I didn't even get close to a full set. I got 3 from tanker set being the most.
Couple this to the fact that just about everyone is managing to get the entire Elemental Costume set parts within the first 10-12 packs means that in the long run almost no one will stay "bothered" by this.
If they just skewed the rolls towards the players account at least it would have been a more fun and less disappointing.
It would have been nice if they explained what the heck this stuff was even instead of having to scour the forums to understand this stuff in the slightest. On top even forums posters honestly don't have a clue how these ATO work. -
I would hold off until some of this stuff gets sorted out. Reading the market forum it seems people are a bit confused about these sets exemplaring down which it seems they do not, maybe ?
Who knows really. -
Random should be for F2P players. Monthly subscribers should get something a bit less random. Maybe get a better chance of getting ATO more based on what toon your on. Or what is on your account.
I purchased 36 and I got ATO for a bunch of arch types except the ones I have. Tons of revives ( self and other ) and Tons of inspirations. I also got about 700 merits out of 36 rolls. I started with 75 on the toon. So I didn't get the tons of merits others are posting about.
Further why can't the Devs explain what the heck this stuff is ?? Some of us don't have the time to go on beta to test stuff out just to know how it will work going live. Even players who did seemed to have screwed stuff up trying to slot some of this stuff.
It just is so annoying that this company is just too lazy to explain clearly what these things do. -
Sounds like someone needs to make up a tutorial for this stuff.
Seems a bit confusing. -
Range Cap Hover Crab with almost perma pets. If you pick up Agility incarnate they will definitely be perma. Or if you can afford some purple sets which I think is about 4 or 5. Its out here on the forums by Adeon Hawkwood. Then I would go with Musculature.
You could take out all the pets and just put in what you like as well.
If you were gonna go with the pets I would pick up Barrier eventually to buff out all the pets. I have it on a hunstman build and I have to say its pretty darn great. It allows me to solo Malta on 4/8 and no one can solo Malta on 4/8 unless they are spending billions. It just really makes the pets a beast.

Bad wording on my part. Yes your correct on the resummon part as far as spiderlings go. What I meant to imply was you the actual number of pets and not the use of the power. I thought the power gave you 2 spiders, though I think it might be 3.

Quote:I agree, just the issue is dark is very PBAOE. It would be nice if for blasters your highest defense would work against Mez attacks. When I first started IOing I went S/L and quickly found out that mezzes will get me 90% of the time, and when the S/L defense shield drops it's over. Defiance does squat when a full pack of angry mobs is aggroed on you and you are unable to move.
I prefer softcapping ranged because it does a better job of keeping mezzes away and it works against all damage types as long as you keep your distance. Plus you derive a greater percentage of that defense from set bonuses so even if you get mezzed, and when the shields drop you still retain a significant amount of ranged defense.
The downside to going this route is that you will sacrifice quite a bit of recharge to attain that goal and you will have to take a lot of melee attacks in your secondary for the set bonuses even if you prefer the pure ranged style. I am a blaster at heart so I have no problems with the latter, all my blasters take melee/pbaoes from their secondaries. Getting in a mob's face is not an issue, hop in, fire the power while hopping out ensures minimal exposure to melee.
