Mad Machinegunner: My AR/NRG Build

Finally ready to share my AR/NRG build.

Build goals were:
Soft-capped S/L
High recharge for full auto and pets
secondary mitigation - procs and pets
DAMAGE! without sacrificing concept too much
Exemplar-able build
No purples sets (but procs if necessary)

I really liked the idea of a machine gunner type so I read every guide i could find on the subject. While I liked most of the ideas and learned a lot, nobody was doing exactly what I had in mind. I really wanted to build around full auto, because conceptually I didn't like the flamethrower or ignite powers on my assault rifle.

Which of course leaves me with a lot of lolethal damage but such is life. I have six slotted both burst and my spiderling pets with proc-y goodness. The spiders are already fairly formidable without the defense enhancements slotted so i imagine they'll do really well with them, stacking on my maneuvers too! While they don't do a ton of damage they definately draw aggro and that means less for me. They are down for about a minute which I find acceptable. I'm also good with hasten being down for ~12 seconds. Full Auto is up every ~22 seconds.

Web envelope and the Ragnarok proc should help keep what is aggroed to me from getting in my face. If they do I have power thrust and for a tough boss I have the beanbag + stun combo to take them out of the equation.

All enhancements are 35 for maximum exemplaring (35 is them minimum of Sting of the Manticore, so I made it the baseline for all). Anything marked level 50 is actually an attuned enhancement from the paragon store so this reflects values at combat level fifty.

Alpha is musculature core for MOAR DAMAGE! Interface is Reactive radial, natch (incinderary rounds?) Took agless radial for the debuff resistance and Vorpal radial for the defense buff.

Anyway, here it is. Comments and advice appriciated. I'm fairly happy with it but if there are any ideas to do what I'm trying to do better I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

Nah. Everything besides the fire ones. I'm using the council model so the grenade/beanbag still look good firing from the under barrel.

Will try to make this short and sweet. I looked over your build and from what your trying to do Nrg might not be the best secondary for your build. As much as I am against this secondary set I am about to mention, I want to keep this in the realm of blasters so I would suggest going with Device.

To me your build just seems a bit scattered.

Bit confused about the purple set comment when you have Gladiator and Panacea both valued at 2 billion each in the build.

This is rough draft to point you in the direction.

AR Device.
Range capped with Cloaking Device suppressed.
Full auto at 20 seconds and 18 seconds with Alpha incarnate.
Double Gun Drone for about 27 seconds and 33 with Alpha incarnate.
Spiderling 60 seconds off perma and 35 seconds off perma with Alpha incarnate.
I gave you burnout so you could actually have up 2 gun drones and then of course a third 60 seconds later. Its a gimmick but pretty cool tool to have during boss fights. Nice way to start a fight with 3 gun drones. If you summoned everything and then used burnout you would have 3 gun drones and 2 spiderlings for a total of 5 pets and have spiderlings on standby from activating burnout.

Once you have alpha incarnate I would change sniper IO to sting of manticore for even quicker recharge.

Your shy of the 2 points for endurance so you should have blues in your tray. You could move some stuff around to get some better endurance numbers.

Turn off incarnates to get an idea of what it will look like endurance wise pre-incarnate. Range is 49 but suppressed it will be lower.

Again just an idea for a direction.

Quite a few of your attacks are really low for accuracy (slug is 76% to-hit vs. +3s, stun and power thrust 72%, spiderlings aren't slotted with any accuracy at all so 48%, and so on).

The gaussian's set seems like a waste of slots, you're using six slots for 1.25% s/l? The Lady Grey def debuff in burst kind of seems useless, how about a shield breaker proc? Or, for that matter, just slotting it with a dmg set? Mids' is showing me about 50% more average damage with a set of t-strikes instead of all those procs. I don't see the value of the proc in beanbag.

You might consider taking boost range to maximize the area of your cones. Recovery looks pretty decent without conserve power.

I have considered devices and currently have a beam/devices similar to the build you suggested. This particular character is already 43 and i'm really satisfied with /NRG.

Also I originally built for ranged but found the animations of AR really pin you down and mobs are in your face a lot, so S/L it is for me.

Yeah those are long term investments to be bought with whatever merits. I'm fine to chase those two but not to do the same to 3 or four whole sets of purples for (to my mind) marginal improvement

Is this confirmed? MIDS is giving me a 'nonstacking from same caster' message, making me think the spiderlings would just resummon instead of double up. i know it works for gang war and hell on earth but i was under the impression those were exceptions.

This has me thinking also. Gonna play around with build-up a bit. Six slotted gaussians is a bad old habit of mine. maybe i can bring the recharge up without sacrificing the to-hit too much.

I've fiddled the procs in burst a bit and i like the effect. At least one is popping all the time and its really fun. Between me and the spiderlings we hit reliably enough and every hit is a defense debuff which only makes the next one easier.

Tactics, Beanbag and stun are out for Bonesmasher, SS and burnout if i can really double spiderlings and play a Blastermind. If not, then ill ditch burnout and probably take total focus and start blapping.

Tried boost range and repecced out. To maximize procage i keep burst on auto and use distance to target without engaging.

Still softcapped with my melee attacks lookin strong to punish anyone who steps to me, less wasteful slotting of build up (which is now on a 27 second timer!) EDIT: and conserve power is up 50% of the time which I really like for longer fights

Bad wording on my part. Yes your correct on the resummon part as far as spiderlings go. What I meant to imply was you the actual number of pets and not the use of the power. I thought the power gave you 2 spiders, though I think it might be 3.
