And here we see one of the driving forces of high salvage prices. Why fuss over paying 20 or 30 or 40 thousand for the salvage when you are going to make 700 or 800 thousand when you sell the enhancement? You could pay 100,000 for the salvage and it would barely dent your profit, but it might dramatically speed up the rate at which you could make that profit.

Quote:It is true that low bids can take a long time to fill, sometimes very long. Try bidding 1 inf on Hamidon Goo and see how long that takes to fill. It's a tricky balance between how much you are willing to pay and how long you are willing to wait, and what makes it annoying is that you never know just what the equation is.My bids went in like 3 days ago (23,456 each if I remember right), and none have been filled yet.
Practice helps.
How did you pick 23,456 inf? That seems like an unhelpful price to me. 25,001 is only a little higher, but I suspect your bids would fill much sooner.
Here's an easy tip: if you are planning to bid low and be patient and get a good price, buy more than you need. Sell the rest for a big markup, but still less than the highest prices you've seen. The biggest problem I have is running out of market slots. -

I suppose the way to test it would be to go onto a map alone, hit the reveal power, then invite 7 more people to your team. You should be able to tell whether the enemies are spawned for a team of 1 or 8.
-
I assume that one reason for the current setup is that the devs wanted a new time sink. Time spent at the market, or going to and from the market, is time not spent earning xp.
-
Well, none of those enhancements existed for the first few years you played, so that will skew your drops/year calculation.

Quote:Ties are weird. I studied it once by having a bunch of friends put in identical bids and then I listed that item one at a time over and over to see the order in which their bids were filled. It was absolutely a function of the order in which the bids were placed, but it was not FIFO or FILO. It wasn't exactly random - it came out the same way every time - but it wasn't anything you'd have predicted either.
Ties are also not decided by date and time of bid placed. I used to think this was true, but in learning how the market works, I tried flooding the same price from four characters on a particular item. 10 stack after 10 stack. The first stack bid out was NOT the first to fill. Nor was there any particular logic to which stacks had 7 items in them, which had none bought, which only had 1 or 3 bought. Beyond that, I don't have any more insight than you regarding how bidding ties are broken.
It was something like... the first bidder got the third item listed, and the second bidder got the second item listed, and the third bidder got the seventh item listed, and the fourth bidder got the first item listed, etc. Exactly the same, every time.
Like I said: weird.
Oh, and to the OP: it's all your fault the number of items for sale is 0!
But seriously, the reason we have so many items where there are 0 for sale is because, when people do list them, they list them for below the market price. You get a quick sale, but then we're back to having 0 on the market. For some reason, despite the many complaints about how the shelves are bare, we rarely see people complain that they're being undercharged, and yet it's that underpricing that causes the shortage. /shrug -
Sounds like it would work, as long as your people are the only sellers of the specific item. That's a key piece of information. If the buyer sees 2+ items for sale, he needs to abort, otherwise he risks buying the wrong one. You could incorporate protective bids. First bid 23,814 inf. Then list your item for 23,815 inf. Yours will be the lowest listed item as long as that bid is still outstanding. Then the partner bids multi-millions and gets the right item.

I had to petition for 60 and 63. Hopefully it's sorted out now. That reminds me, I need to test out that fog of war power.

I just wanted to toss in my two pence or pfennig or whatever and say hello, cheerio, guten morgen, and so on. It's nice to have you all here!

Quote:Who are you?new forums, new avatar!
let's see how many people won't recognize me. =P
Hey, I got my old avatar working again. I'm not planning to change it. Too much change already! I'm finding it harder to scroll quickly down a thread and pick out the interesting bits. The quote blocks are different, and people can more easily use more variety in fonts and colors. Also, graphic sigs are teh ebil.
And yeah, the lack of alpha channel edge shading whatever thingy Protea said about the smilies is ugly.
Overall I don't mind the new forums, though. I'll get used to all the little changes. It took me a while to find that control panel thingy, for example. If it makes the mods happy, then I'm all for it. Being a mod sucks.
Which reminds me, does anyone know that webcomic about how forum moderators shouldn't complain about their jobs because it's like a person who has a job swallowing bees complaining about getting stung by bees? I wanted to show that to someone but I couldn't find it. -

Defender: Thermal/Fire
Scrapper: Ice/Ice
I love the idea of elementally pure theme teams. Defenders are the only non-epic heroic powerset that don't have fire/fire, and after I16 I think scrappers will be the only one without ice/ice. -

No, EIGHTEEN billion inf will vanish into the abyss !
[/ QUOTE ]
Right. I was thinking they were up for 1 bill each.
This also gives us ten more reasons to be glad that WW no longer erases things after 60 days of inactivity. Those luck charms might be there for a very very long time. -
Now this could be a massive destruction of influence! If someone does buy all ten of them, then 8,000,000,000 inf will vanish into the abyss when you hit the "collect influence" button. Nice!

Do Luck Charms have any broad effect on the game economy? Would buying up all the LC's over an extended period have any knock on effects with respect to price or availability of other items?
[/ QUOTE ]
There is only one way to find out: buy them all. Every single one. Even the single most expensive luck charm listed on the market.
... I'm tired of it taking up a transaction slot.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've done that once before (click), but it might be worth trying again...
[/ QUOTE ]
I just logged in my old luck charmer character for the first time in almost two months. Almost all of the luck charms I had listed have sold, even some of the ones listed for a million inf. The last 5 prices now are mostly below 50k, but there are only 92 for sale and almost 6,000 bids. -

It's a fine start, but I don't think you'll have any more luck than Stillhart did. If the goal is to educate people about basic economics, you might as well link to the wikipedia article about economics. It will be just as ineffective, and it will take a lot less of your time. -
The only thing that you can only do with a level 50 is slot purple enhancements. Everything else that a level 50 can do could also be done by a level 49. Hitting level 50 unlocks the epic archetypes. Other than that, there is no content unlocked by hitting 50.

All three arcs were rated at four stars. Good fun but nothing groundbreaking.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm glad you enjoyed them. I'm not sure I've ever gotten anything but four stars on any of them. One of these days I'll get around to making something more ambitious, but for now "good fun" is good enough.
I've often had people suggest that I combine them into one arc. The main reason I haven't is because, as you said, they're like popcorn. I like popcorn. I often find that I can only play for half an hour, or even less. My missions are perfect for me.
I've changed the map on the second mission many times. I'll double check the text to make sure it matches the map again. Thanks for pointing it out. -

Bike Thief is a great name.
I also admire your avatar.
GRATZ on the double dip!

Yes, congrats! And I too admire the image. -
I thought the whole point of renaming the studio Paragon Studios instead of NCNC was to emphasize their commitment to City of Heroes? Seems odd to do that and then immediately start developing a new MMO, unless by "new" they mean a sequel or an expansion.

If you're talking about multiple friends, plus yourself, then why would it even matter if anyone else in the universe is playing? You guys can team with each other. Lots of people find the game perfectly fun solo. Even if the devs ceased development today, it would take months to get through all the existing content, and every indication is that there is some major development work going on right now. Odds are your friends will quit out of boredom long before the game shuts down. Even if they do get bored quickly, it's not that expensive to play it for a month. Heck, the trial is free. After a month, if it's still fun, they can pay for another month. If it's not, they still got a month's worth of entertainment for a pretty reasonable price.
I can think of a lot of reasons not to play this game, or even try it, but I can't think of any reason why the number of other people currently playing should impact the decision to take the free trial for a spin.
