Quote:If I am looking for a 1 slot wonder, I am looking for powers to stuff LotG in. Placate doesn't take any IO sets.ah, but hit a nuke with a blaster and then placate and you might find it useful
Given that if I just nuked, I would want to use blasts while BU was still active. -
Quote:I'm all for changing powers that suck. Starting with D-shift and blackhole.Just drop it. The change for the better and it's not our game to edit. Do you really want to keep Challenge?
The new power isn't much of an improvement since I skip placate on my stalkers. -
-
I agree that Challenge is Garbage.
So was repulse before it it was changed to disrupt. However, its still a violation of the cottage rule.
(example) It would be like removing KB from Energy Blast and no longer allowing increase KB IOs and KB sets from being slotted into Energy blast. (/example)
Hey, I've always been an advocate of blowing up the cottage rule so we can rid ourselves of intangable powers such as Blackhole and Dimension Shift. Also, riding ourselves of PBAoE KB powers that do no damage (thus OF inelegiable) such as Hand Clap.
So what if someone had a stone tank who had taunt, provoke and challenge? -
-
Blasters and ambush farms died awhile ago. Wait for bio armor brutes.
-
*gasp*
So is blaster blizzard going to be the same as defender blizzard? -
Quote:Agree with this, follow hyperstikes guide. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=231628Until you follow this, then we won't know if it's from browser ram hogging or something as simple as corrupted graphics drivers.
I have CoH running on 5 different PCs + 1 laptop with very different hardware and different drivers and they all run stable. So before jumping up and down blaming the CoH program, please follow hyperstrike's guide. -
Runs just fine with my 6870

I just made one yesterday.
I'm too busy blasting, however envenom and weaken work just fine. I'll probably respec out of neurotoxic breath though. The set is weak for self defense like trick arrow.
If I didn't already have a time/ice defender I probably would have gone water/time. Ah well, I can always scrap and re-roll. -
Its really when the secondaries of the corruptor start factoring in.
Some will eat up animation time others such as Disruption Field don't. Of course DF requires an Ally.
If we are talking about just blasts, then sure blasters will have higher dps.
When you add in secondaries blaster/corruptor, then it gets muddy. -
So after all of these crash posts, you haven't even tried reverting back to older drivers yet?
-
Quote:Well, this will answer that question. It answers the question that the GT 240 card is flaky or not.Actually it's ATI integrated graphics. At this time I'm not convinced it's the graphics card and I have very limited space to work with in order to unplug everything from my comp to do that.
You don't have enough room to unscrew out a GT240 card and stuff it into an anti static bag?
Given that thousands of people are playing the game with no issues (me included) probably eliminates the CoH program.
Well video card swap test is really your next step. Its free, it only costs you time and its fairly easy. -
Force Bolt as mentioned a few posts ago is one of the few good KB powers when used correctly.
I do have a character who has both FB and Power Push. -
Hang on. If you have integrated video on the machine, just try running the game off that. Remove the GT 240 and try the game on the AMD IGP.
Yeah, its going to be slow and primative, but if it doesn't crash, it answers an important question. -
Start with what Father Xmas said, Update windows XP to SP3
*Egads, another GT 240 and crashing post* Hey guys, is there a common factor here? -
Quote:Its important to give us as much info as possible so we don't have to ask twenty questions.OK, since it seems like CoH's periodic crashing on my system is not a common thing for most players, I figured I should try and get some help in maybe resolving the issue!
The game will run fine for a while, but usually within about two or so iTrials (like say, a BAF and then a TPN), the game will crash. The system doesn't hang or anything, just the game itself. I usually get either a Cryptic crash detection window or a Microsoft crash detection window. Sometimes I get the game's "out of memory" error. More rarely, it's a CTD (or rather the window just disappears since I play this game in windowed mode with the window maxed out).
CoH Helper and Hijack This logs to follow. Any insight into what I might be able to do would be helpful! Though I should note that I plan on upgrading the video card in a bit over a month, as well as upgrade the OS to Win7.
First silly question, you have NCsoft Launcher to close when the game starts right?
How old is that GT440 and which brand is it? (EVGA, XFX, MSI which?) -
This is one of those 10GB of RAM HP machines. I've seen a few posts about them having issues.
If you want to try and narrow it down monkeyslap, you *may* have to resort to more drastic measures to fix this.
We are going to need more info, so its time for twenty questions...
I would start with cheap and easy first.
How hot is your machine getting? HWmonitor or core temp might give us some answers to this.
I checked on the HP website, you added in the GT240 card, who made the card? The card is often made with cheap parts in order to be profitable but knowing who made it and exactly which card can be helpful. How old is it? It would not be too surprising that the video card is failing.
Do you have a friend who can loan/help/assist with a spare graphics card?
Lets start with easy stuff first, reformatting hard drives is the nuclear option when everything else doesn't yield any answers. -
Quote:You were refering to another post, but that post didn't have any CoH helper. Therefore, who knows what the issue was.I DID post the CoH Helper info as per Hyperstrike's suggestion.
Edit: You do have a valid point. But I wasn't posting how much vram my graphics card has to say it's the best or more than good enough to run the game on high settings. I posted it in case it was relevant and to get advice on what settings I could turn down in the game for better performance, in case there was someone more technically knowledgeable and knows about these kinds of things.
I'm kinda a dunce when it comes to these sort of things. -
What hyperstrike is saying is, lower these settings.
It doesn't matter how much memory is on the GT240 some evil marketing people have them stick 2Gbs of RAM on them, its still going to be a slow card.
Edit: Until a person posts CoH helper, I don't really pay much attention to the post. -
O_T: As been said, people's opinions differ.
If Gravity was not given its improvements, then it would be the clear "winner" of the worst control set. Since it was buffed up it closer to par with ice control.
If you are wondering, its very close between Gravity, Ice and Mind for worst (at least for me) but the fact there is some debate about it suggests the low end is "balanced". -
I have both since I have /fire farmers on different servers.
I prefer the DM over FM because its better against single targets and the -to hit is quite handy. -
Highest combined total I got was 137. 58 Ninjas + 79 Monkeys
So on Ninjas 58, 55 and 54 are my best 3
Monkeys 79, 74 and 71 are my best 3
Maybe its not strange that the combined totals were 58+79, 55+74 and 54+71.
The only tips I have is have all 4 players huddle next to 1 spawn point, don't use pets, and on the monkey fight, be aware that monkeys have +KB so Footstomp and other KD powers do KB.
Oh yeah, fire brutes and blaster/corruptors with rain powers are helpful. -
Quote:All you need is the proc.I'd consider putting the proc in Bonfire, but there's no way I can scrape up enough enhancement slots on my Fire/Energy/Fire blaster to six-slot Bonfire for the full enhancement set.
Subtle disadvantages like this make me think the devs are way ahead of us all.

Pauper
You can add damage/recharge frankenslots if you like -
Quote:Yep all us old timers remember Smoke Grenade. The old Pre-ED days when you just had to slot 6 damage and use targeting drone. Just be glad Jack is gone and when the new i24 blaster changes happen it will be city of /dev for blasters. It still isn't the worst powerset considering how many blasters avoid melee range. No, the problem is that Devices is a tattered remnant of what it used to be. And, no, it doesn't play like other Blaster secondaries. Trip Mines are far less useful than they once were, even. Trip mines are also unreliable. They don't trigger way too often, even when a mob walks right over the top of them. It absolutely does not perform up to snuff with other secondaries. Targeting Drone was supposed to be its concession to losing Aim, and it did that job well up until ED. Now it's not worth losing the damage buff portion of Aim. Smoke Grenade? Went from being brokenly powerful due to a bug to absolute rubbish. Cloaking device? With the defense and stealth suppressions, it's pretty "meh" now. Gun Drone is more trouble than it's worth to even bother summoning it. Admittedly, though, it's more useful than its previous stationary version was. Time Bomb? Meh. Can't really drop it in a fight ( Interruptable and seems to draw aggro laying it down ), stealth suppressions make dropping it in a pack before a fight all but impossible, and trying to pull a pack of mobs across it right when it blows is way too finicky to work.
Caltrops is really the set's only saving grace, and that's not worth the rest of the garbage.
Mind Control is certainly a great solo controller set from 1-17. At 18 when Illusion gets PA well...that's when all of the other sets fall behind until 32.
However, its not the worst control set, Ice and gravity have more issues.
