was going to test this but ran out of time. maybe you can make a video of it.

Its a very minor bug in content that isn't often played. With the dev team in full i23 mode its not going to get fixed right away.
Now go and be a good player and file a /bug report and move on. -
Quote:Probably need more information.I am having a really puzzling performance issue, never seen anything like it in my years of CoH playing.
When I log into the game, my performance is usually quite good for my settings, in the 70-100 frames per second range. After a period of time, the fps drops to 20, and stays that way for awhile. It will spontaneously reset the rate every so often. I can fairly reliably get the framerate to drop by using an O-portal to get to Ouroboros. When I port out of the O, my framerate will sometimes go back up, but not usually. Changing characters or servers does not seem to have any resetting effect. After leaving the character in place and tabbing out to research these issues, I sometimes come back to find the frame rate up again. I have seen the change happen once, just while moving around in a zone, doing nothing particularly dramatic. Other than getting the fps drop to trigger by using an O-portal, there's been no particular activity that seems to set this off.
Does this sort of behavior ring any bells for anyone? I have not been able to replicate it in any other game so far. Possibly an OpenGL issue? Windows downclocking something?
This quest for answers is compounded by recent changes to my computer. My old, dieing XFX4870 video card has just been replaced with an XFX6790, but in the interim I was using a backup card, an old msi9600GT. So I have recently swept and replaced the AMD drivers with Nvidia drivers, and then swept and gone back to AMD drivers. This behavior has lasted through my installation of 12.3, 12.1 and (currently) 11.9 drivers. Since the card is a new install, I checked for hardware problems by reseating the card, changing power cabling, and using a different monitor connection, to no discernable effect. Haven't seen issues with other games (though I am only on Day2 of troubleshooting).
Will run diagnositics on my computer when I get back home, if that'll help. It's such an odd pattern that I thought someone might just recognize the issue. Thanks!
I can get my 6870 to frame rate drop if I stand near a base portal about -10fps but I get 60fps in talos otherwise with my electric tank.
You should give us some data as in what powerset you are using and what powers are active (some powers are notorius fps sinks) and what zone. Maybe chart some records of this fps loss while in a zone "afk"
What server you run this test might might be helpful. A busy server like Freedom or Virtue would have more lag due to power useage.
Edit: Do you have ncsoft launcher set to exit when game is launched?
Edit2: No hard drive data, you have enough free space on your HD? -
In my case with my Fire/fire/fire blaser I often team with a sonic defender, so I only worry about damage and the sonic shields make me a tank and sonic dispersion makes my scary AoE monster into an AoE god.
-
because 1 crab isn't a big deal and so many folks due to IOs have capped defense at level 50.
Now at lower levels, if you have a team of 4 Veats and and people build to abuse the double leadership, then yeah its pretty darn nice. However, I still see selfish Crabs who have no leadership at all. -
Ew
Level 41: Bonfire -- RechRdx-I:50(A)
Level 49: Inferno -- M'Strk-Acc/Dmg/EndRdx:50(A)
I would reduce Aim to 2 slots
Replace Bonfire with Char with 4 slots (slot with basilisk gaze)
Change inferno with assault.

Quote:Thanks TJ, I should be a total tech junkie, but I still am one of those stubborn people who still use paper maps.I think it's the one on Saratoga but I'll have to double-check.
I have it programmed in the GPS unit but I haven't picked it up from my nephew yet.
EDIT: Checking old PM's it looks like it's the one on Saratoga. You may want to check with Red Gren just to make sure. I was planning on talking to people next Friday about it, but I can go ahead and plan to be there Saturday anyway. -
Quote:I'm sure players are resourceful enough that healing orb isn't a problem solo even on a defender or corruptor.Since Healing Orb cannot be cast on oneself without a pet or teammate, I am concerned a little about mitigation for soloists. This is a location-based concept, you are expected to run in for Stun Orb, position yourself for a Recovery Orb drop, and be in range for Power Orb, and this is all intentional, partially for theme and for adding risk on purpose.
I suppose Rage and Stun can provide enough solo mitigation but Rage obviously is not going to be up every spawn without massive recharge or some downtime.
I just made several changes, part of which was lowering the buff of Shield Orb. Looking for more feedback. I also reorganized the power listing a little and think this might have better order.
Shield Orb probably needs a psi res hole. This set would be really nice on a Mastermind. -
Is it the 560 SE being called GTX 555?

Quote:Flash is actually a hold, but you are correct that it isn't very useful.Same here.
T, maybe you're playing it wrong. It's a controller, they don't do a lot of damage, it takes a while to defeat. That's the AT. Controllers are agonizingly slow if you've been playing with scrappers, brutes and blasters.
As for the powerset, don't shortchange Deceive, it's the key power for Illusion, make your enemy your pet. You only really have to damage powers and they are slow to recharge. On top of that some of Spectral Wounds damage is temporary (~40%) and if you don't finish off the target in 10 seconds
PA is good for drawing aggro but isn't that useful in defeating mobs due to the illusionary damage they do, similar effect to Spectral Wounds.
Spectral Terror is a good way to lock down a group and Phantasm is obviously your primary controller pet that can do a heck of a lot more damage than you but has a tendency to attack when standing next to you.
Flash isn't all that useful IMO. An AoE sleep mez with very low starting accuracy (you need a +3 SO in Acc just to get it up to the base for SW and Blind). -
Quote:If you use a 60/80 GB SSD you'll find out very quickly that the 60 is too small and the 80 is just barely enough. You'll end up spending 80% more because you'll end up going out and buying a 120GB after you realize saving a few pennies on a smaller drive wasn't worth it.Is there a reason you chose a 120Gb SSD instead of something like a 60/80Gb? I'd likely just have the OS, SWAP on it unless someone has a better reason.
80GB drives pricewise are roughly the same as 120GB drives now. So why you want to waste money?
Really cheap 60GB sell for about $80. you might find some really no name brand for $60. Again, you'll see how fast an SSD is and end up buying a 120GB. -
I could get behind this if Shield Orb and Power Orb do not effect the caster.
This somewhat steps on the toes of Thermal even then. -
This should be in Suggestions and Ideas

Commentary: 16GB of RAM with a Hex core CPU with a low/mid level mobile discrete card GTX 555?
The Alienware website says your model PC is a desktop but it comes with a mobile graphics processor?
Resolution: 2560x1600
Pretty nice resolution there. Are you running on a big 27" or 30" monitor?
Edit: One last thought, you do have NCsoft Launcher set to exit when game is launched right? -
I'll make it simple.
CPU: Intel 2500K
RAM: 8GB of DDR3
Video Card: AMD 6850 or better/Nvidia 560 or better
Hard Drive: 120GB or more Intel SSD
Quality PSU: Antec, Corsair, Seasonic
Everything else are details. Sure, a good case is nice and trust me, I like big cases because small cases are a pain in the you know where to work on. -
Anisotropic Filtering: 16x
Isn't this setting a little high? -
Go back and uninstall the game and go through and find anything leftover from the old install and make sure its all purged.
If you can play the game on the new machine without crashing with "new" characters then we know 2 things.
1. The game works fine.
2. There is some data or settings with "old" ones that cause a crash.

Quote:You'll have to give us more info if you expect people to try and trackdown this error. I have a similiar Q9550 w/ GTX 260 216c but I would need to know your gfx settings to test. For a month or so now, when I log into CoH, I get this strange graphic glitch where the motion seems to stop, then start again. This happens about three times a second. If I stand my toon in front of the door the tram you can see the words rolling across the marquee actually stop and almost back up before continuing.
This glitch is so bad that it makes me not even want to start playing, but instead reboot the game up to 6 or 7 times in an attempt to boot without the glitch. Its bad. Sometimes I'll restart my PC up to 3 times. Usually, but not always the glitch will go away after going thru all that nonsense.
I have a VIP account and have sent multiple petitions while in game but so far am going around in circles with them, so I thought I'd try this next. The PC itself is kinda old but it runs pretty much any game I want. Here are the specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6720 CPU @ 2.66 GHz with huge Zalman cooler
MSI board
3 Gigs RAM
Vista 32 Bit
GTX 260 nVidia video card
soundblaster xtreme gamer sound card
Corsair 650w PSU

Which Holders? I can stop by on my way into town on Saturday Morning

re-install is only the 2nd step in the tech support handbook.
Step 1: Re-boot
Step 2: Re-load
Step 3: Re-image
Before you try step 3, do you have a custom login screen? I recall someone had an issue like this and noticed they did not crash in beta but did on live and tracked it down to a custom login screen. -
Any particular timespan? Enemies? Missions? Trials? Any info would be helpful. With what you have given so far, the list of possible suspects is rather long.

Quote:Since my grav/kin is usually teamed up, I find little or no use for wormhole at least in its current form with KB.I have Wormhole on my Grav/Son Controller, but I'm not a big fan of it in general team use. Generally speaking, any given team I'm on doesn't need that sort of mass enemy relocation. Teleporting them to where they're already at for the mez could be useful if not for the knockback (did they get rid of the KB? I haven't played my Grav since the changes). At the end of the day I've found it as situational as Force Bubble. I'd much prefer if it was an AoE Lift with Disorient.
OP: At least D-Shift is still a turd, hopefully you won't have to deal with it much. There are just too many powers which are better than D-Shift. Gravity is still sub par, but no longer the clear choice as bottom of the totem pole. -
Was there something planned for Saturday morning breakfast?
I'd be happy to go to Holder's on Sunday. -
Quote:I don't disagree with that. Copying an existing install will do no harm, getting it to work depending on who is doing the migration can matter. There is nothing unsafe about copying an existing install.
Also, the CoH directory is 4 GB. That is a horrific download for anyone with sub-par internet access.
There are guides on the forums on how to do this, I'll leave it up to the user to decide. If I am asked however, I would always suggest doing it the "safe" way with the least number of variables.
