New Computer: What Files Will I Need?

I'm (finally) getting a new computer, but wanted o know what I need to do in order to get CoH onto it.

Do I just download the game from the Internet?

Do I need to do something with the Launcher, or will it automatically download when I give it my userid and password?

Should I copy all of my CoH directory from my current computer onto my new one?

Thanks!

P.S.-I'm a paid player, if that makes any difference.

Please try my arcs:

There are a few different ways you can do this.

I generally copy all of my files from the old computer to a flash drive.

Then I download and install the Launcher.

Then I let the Launcher start the installation, start it running (I never install to the default directory, always a specific directory I create), then stop the installation after a minute or so.

Then I paste the files from the old computer into the directory where I started installing the game.

Then I run the Launcher and have it do a Repair. This takes only a short time since the files are already there.

This has worked for me on every system so far and makes for a much faster installation.

I also then do similar steps for installing Beta and Test, but not everyone installs those.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Just download the windows client from the CoH website. Then, do a fresh install. That method isn't the fastest, but it is the safe way to do things.

What they said, but (because even as we speak I'm having to do this Again) I made up a related Guide for this. (see sig)

There is nothing unsafe about copying an existing install.
Also, the CoH directory is 4 GB. That is a horrific download for anyone with sub-par internet access.

I don't disagree with that. Copying an existing install will do no harm, getting it to work depending on who is doing the migration can matter.

There are guides on the forums on how to do this, I'll leave it up to the user to decide. If I am asked however, I would always suggest doing it the "safe" way with the least number of variables.

Simply copying the CoX related installation folders to a backup medium and then transfering them back to the same folder path on the new pc works perfectly fine without any registry mods or custom shortcuts. I just did this on my system (main laptop GPU finally fried for the last time) and all I had to do was right click + drag the Launcher exe file to the desktop and create a shortcut. From there it ran as if i was originally installed on this pc. I'd like to note that said install went from a WinXP SP3 x86 environment to a Win7 SP1 x64 environment with NO complaints from either the software nor the OS. A bonus was that the launcher actually remembers your custom settings because they're stored in a file(s). Talk about cutting all the fat on an install. I may need to review my Guides at this point to make sure they reflect this test.
