  1. what sorts of temps are you running? Are you using a laptop cooler?

Have you given your laptop a good cleaning with some compressed air? Its certainly old enough that its internal fans could be very clogged up with dust and debris.

  3. I thought of a few new things and existing items that I would like to see in the Paragon Market.

Permament Costume powers. There were a few of these for sale, but I ended up buying none of them because I didn't want any of the ones for sale.

Here are some I would like to see.
    Dark Ring Mistress
    Freakshow Tank
    IDF Victoria Mk IV
    Knives of Artemis
    Malta Gunslinger

Other items I would like to see for sale.
    Accountwide unlock of Crafting Table
Accountwide unlock of Patron Power Pools

    Thank you for your time.
  4. You think a group of 8 Min/Maxers couldn't pop 1 GM per minute? The number is probably higher if people make builds specifically for that purpose.
  5. The 4650 is not a bad little card, I got one as a replacement for another card that failed since it had a lifetime warranty.

Can it run UM? Not to a level where I consider acceptable. I have it paired to a C2D E6600 which is better than the AMD x2 3600 that the OP has.

I have to agree with what was said, settings are too high. Start with minimal graphics and start adding effects.

I find Grandville or the new AP or Imperial City to be a good place to test. If you don't get lag in those places, you probably won't in game during normal play.
  6. The Asus laptops are notorious for being a pain in the rear when you upgrade video drivers on them. (Actually, its not unique to Asus)

Once any laptop manufacterer sells you a laptop, they don't ever have to update the video drivers for the thing. Short of defective drivers.

I'd do a safe mode un-install of the video drivers and then re-install the latest "official Asus" drivers for your model of laptop.

The laptop is also a couple of years old, make sure its not a heat issue. A good blast of compressed air can do wonders for laptop temps. (Also, using a good laptop cooler)
  7. I'd do the same for the Nvidia folks, but I only have one Nvidia card now. When there are cheaper 6xx Nvidia cards, I'll probably get one for testing.

AMD will be dropping 2xxx-4xxx cards into Legacy status "soon"

I'd test laptops too but its all about time/money. Paragon studios has their own lab for testing stuff, so its usually best to file a /bug report to them.

11.9 was pretty darn stable. 12.1 was good too.

After the bad run of AMD drivers from 10.10, 10.11 etc every release seemed like we were playing driver roulette by upgrading.

Why not have a reward table for contributing to fight them? For example, it could be:
    • 10 Reward Merits
    • Non stacking +10% XP/Inf boost for the next 45 minutes
    • A single Incarnate Shard(Level 50 VIP Incarnates only!)
    • Two Incarnate Threads (Level 50 VIP Incarnates only!)
    • A random super inspiration
Not sure if those rewards are too extreme, too little, or just right. I know they're also not AS hard with all our IOs and Incarnate powers but they're certainly not easy.
Probably a little too high (IMHO) a good team of GM farmers would probably make 600 merits/hour or more.

There is a fine line between too much and not enough.

I'll still say, if you are having no issues with 12.1, why are you going to 12.4? If you like to test, then by all means go for it. I could use other people for feedback on ATI/AMD cards.
  10. Driver date was different

    2/29/2012 7:02:00 PM

Not 3/13/2012 like on the Nvidia site. Sometime these companies are sneaky that way, which is why I asked.
  11. I want a titan weapons baseball bat!

With a community rep like "Hit Streak" I want to make Craig Counsell.
  12. PM one of the community reps, they should be able to help you or point you to someone who can assist you. I've seen a few people get their names changed within the last few months.

My Alienware came with a different theme on it that caused the same issue on my laptop. I switch to Aero and now it has been working fine.

Also, newchemicals, the video card and driver version are in the log files that were posted above, hence why most people ask for people to post them when they have an issue.

I would assume you meant to say theshaolinluchador there.

I was trying to look on the HP website what the last "official" HP driver there was for the HDX16 of which there were some 25+ variants.

296.10 is dated 3/13/2012 which was why I asked to verify.

Anyways, try running city of heroes in game safe mode and see if you can open the contacts list. If that works, then start increasing the graphics settings until you find what is causing the crash.

I reduced Anti-aliasing from x16 to x2 and ran around inside the University and did not experience the issue...yet. I'll continue to see if that changes anything.

I usually have all my background programs on and never had this issue before.

I did get the temp monitoring program which allows to control the fan speed from Nvidia.

The side panel of my machine is always removed to allow more air flow and venting of heat. I recently air-dusted too.
    Your CoH helper said 2x.

Removing the side panel usually (not always) makes things worse for temps. YMMV
  15. Someone recently was having issues with dual monitors pointed back to this post.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=176210

    Yes, the post is old.

Korgat_ it would be best to give us all the info you can on your setup. If you are doing things like dual or triple monitors you should say so. Also, refusing to do any sort of driver rollback will make people less likely to help you.
  16. Is there something magical about a level 10 KR Mayhem vs. level 11?

I'd recommend thinking about it based on what's most likely to be the bottleneck. A SSD will largely fix the component that's the biggest bottleneck for most users (the HDD), so you should try to set aside enough money for at least a 64GB SSD. From there, it really depends on what you'll be doing with it. Gaming? Then budget out a good nVidia GPU (if you won't use it for CoH, then ATI is also an option).

I'd recommend at least 4GB of RAM, with 6-8 a much nicer amount... but, some use cases would be fine with 2GB of ram even!

Lastly, is SB vs IvB. There's not a huge performance difference, and SB, from what I've heard, overclocks better than current IvB parts. If you're not going to overclock quite a bit or depend on the iGPU, don't go with a 'k' part when choosing a SB CPU (those are the only benefits for it). The 'k' IvB parts get a bonus 100MHz over their non-K cousins, so there's a slight benefit for non-overclockers as well.

Memory is so cheap these days that for a new PC 8GB is a good place to start. 2GB might be ok for an old system with DDR or DDR2 RAM where sinking money for such old tech is a waste of money.
  18. This is a good place to start.

    Father Xmas Guide
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=124080

I'm not familiar with Italy's computer part market. Having Newegg 10 miles from my house makes me rather spoiled as to how fast I can get parts.

Now the guide might need some updating with Ivy Bridge CPUs just being released, however its close enough to what I would suggest.
  19. Sorry about asking all of the questions, but every little detail can matter and we only know what you tell us.

Did you file a bug report with support?

After the first R (Reboot), how willing are you to trying the second R (Remove and Reinstall)?
  20. If you want to make sure you get Kings Row, level to 11.

at level 10 its 50/50 between AP and KR. You got unlucky with the RNG.

    • AoEs would affect everyone in their area of effect, not just enemies. Allies, civilians, everyone. You throw an exploding ball of fire into a crowd, you're not only going to hit the people who don't like you. Need to escort someone out of a mission? If the stalker has to turn of Hide, the fire tank has to turn off his damage aura. And the Titan Weapons brute needs to watch where he swings that thing.
    • Heroes should fight villains, and vice-versa. Thus, in my CoH, everyone could go everywhere, regardless of alignment. But if you were in a zone you shouldn't be in (a villain in a hero zone, for example), people who are "native" to that zone (heroes and vigilantes) could freely attack you like you were in a PvP zone. Only characters who were "allowed" to be in a zone could start fights; the interloper could fight back if and only if he or someone on his team were attacked, and only against the attacker or members of the attacker's team. Vigilantes and rogues would be considered "safe" in any zones (except PvP zones, obviously), but could only start fights in hero or villain zones, as appropriate.

Being defeated by another player (not a critter) in a "wrong side" zone would send you to jail, not the hospital. At this point you could choose to bust out of your cell, or "do your time" by waiting 30 minutes (real-world minutes, not in-game minutes, so logging out would be an option).

I'd remove certain features from zones on both sides to "encourage" (read: force) people to go into zones where they aren't welcome. Say, pull quartermasters from most redside zones so villains have to come to Paragon to do their shopping, and shut down Wentworth's in blueside zones so that heroes who want to trade have to visit the black market in the Isles.

I'd also introduce a "secret identity" system that would allow characters to enter opposite-side zones unmolested -- an extra costume slot with vastly-reduced options (similar to Arachnos costumes, only all normal clothes) attached to a toggle power otherwise identical to Walk except that it wouldn't shut off "always on" powers or Brawl. And while it would prevent other players from being able to attack you, it wouldn't prevent critters from doing so. So if you toggle it off to use your powers to defend yourself from those Hellions that tried to mug you, you're now fair game to other players. Secret Identity would have a lockout preventing players from activating it while in the middle of a fight (maybe if you've attacked or been attacked by anything in the last sixty seconds, something like that) -- which means busting out of jail would leave you open to attack from other players again as you trashed the police station and fought your way through PPD.
    • Experience debt would be applied when you're defeated, then applied again if you went to the hospital -- medical care is expensive! Being rezzed by any other means (including your SG base) would remain "free." However, debt would all be the same again, whether you're in an instanced mission or not.
    • I'd apply the "giant monster code" to every enemy in a city or hazard zone. Maybe instanced missions, too, maybe not. Either way, under me there'd be no such thing as a "level 20-30 zone," only a "+0 - +2 zone" or a "-2 - +0 zone." Civilians walk around on the streets of Peregrine Island without dying -- why shouldn't a level 3 superhero be able to as well?

Nothing would ever con grey, so theoretically, even stopping an Atlas Park purse-snatching would be "worth the time" for a level 50+3 incarnate.
    • Tips would only drop outside of instanced missions, and would always be specific to the zone in which they dropped, not only in terms of where the mission door would be, but in the sense that certain tip missions would only be available in certain zones (so maybe a Council-based tip would only drop in zones where Council normally spawn).
    • Speaking of drops, salvage would be enemy-specific. Want a Ritki Alloy? You'll only get it by fighting Rikti, and maybe Lost. Need a Mu Vestment? Find some Arachnos and take out the guys wearing them (so, Mu specifically, not crabs or widows or tarantulas). Looking for an Improvised Cybernetic? Those Freakshow over there are probably the guys to take one from.

Combined with my "everyone can go everywhere" pseudo-PvP system, this could be especially interesting; maybe a villain is trying to get a specific kind of salvage by street-sweeping a type of enemy that only appears in a hero zone, and a hero shows up to thwart his nefarious scheme. ("I only need a few more rubies to build my death ray... what's that? Heroes, come to foil my plan!")
    • Knockback would cause additional "falling" damage based on the distance the target was knocked back. Powers with knockback would not have their damage scaled back to compensate. Thus, powers that do knockback, and Knockback enhancements, would be much more attractive choices, and enemies would be flying all over the place.
    • There'd be bigger differences between alignments, and not just in tip missions. Characters with different alignments would actually play the game differently. Heroes, being altruistic and more concerned with preventing a robbery or rescuing a kidnapped civilian, would see a larger reward at the end of each mission, but a smaller reward for defeating enemies within that mission. So clearing a map wouldn't be as good an idea as simply moving on to the next mission. Vigilantes, being more concerned with bringing the criminals to justice, would receive a smaller end-of-mission reward, but a larger reward for each enemy they defeat within the mission.
Sounds like Eve Online. If I want that, I would just go play it.

If I were a dev, I would change Warburg, Siren's Call and Bloody Bay into PVE co-op zones and make RV a 1-50 FFA zone.
  22. The resolution isn't a problem, at least not on 3 other 1920x1200 monitors I have. Is this something that recently happened? Did you replace an old monitor? Was this working fine before then it happened?
  23. To think back when many of the Armors would root you to the ground for Mez protection.

I do find handclap useful for something, but I won't mention it.
  24. Two questions,

Are you using more than 1 monitor?

Is your 1920x1200 on the graphics setting in game set to 1920x1200 desktop?

Edit: it should say 1200. fixed
  25. Is this the driver you are currently using? 296.10?

    http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/42588

Make sure to first uninstall the video driver then re-install it. Don't use the roll back.

I checked the HP website, I get a huge list of HDX16 with all sorts of different video cards (most with 9600) which variant do you have?
