Crashing at contacts window?

Was told how to ask for help.

"Not sure if this is the place to ask. Looking for help with the issue. I've been playing on and off again. However, my game keeps crashing whenever I open the contacts page, or open a dialogue box with an NPC. Last time this happened was when the NCsoft launcher got put into effect. Tried updating video card drivers (GeForce 130M, Windows Vista), and nothing. Even tried rolling back updates on the driver, and still nothing. Any help available would be appriciated!"

Make sure to first uninstall the video driver then re-install it. Don't use the roll back.

I checked the HP website, I get a huge list of HDX16 with all sorts of different video cards (most with 9600) which variant do you have?

I have just an HP HDX 16 (model X16-1370US) I think it's the basic version.

My video card is a GeForce 130M, and installed with the 296.1 (most recent update according to website)

Are you using the Windows Basic/Aero Theme or have you changed it?

My Alienware came with a different theme on it that caused the same issue on my laptop. I switch to Aero and now it has been working fine.

Also, newchemicals, the video card and driver version are in the log files that were posted above, hence why most people ask for people to post them when they have an issue.

The reason I said newchemicals was to point out that you asked his driver version and date... It says all that already in the log above. I didn't understand why you asked if the exact version and exact date are already there.

Not 3/13/2012 like on the Nvidia site. Sometime these companies are sneaky that way, which is why I asked.

what sorts of temps are you running? Are you using a laptop cooler?

Have you given your laptop a good cleaning with some compressed air? Its certainly old enough that its internal fans could be very clogged up with dust and debris.

I am using an external laptop cooler. I've been able to run Star Wars the Old Republic well (at minimum settings) due to the fan being in place.

Last time this contact windows happened was when NCsoft implemented its launcher over the COH launcher. I had to fix that by uninstalling/reinstalling the NCsoft launcher and COH. Tried that at least 5 times now, and still nothing

Well, there is the 3rd R to try. Re-image. Still didn't answer temps or cleaning out laptop. Those are much less drastic than doing a re-image.

I'm a bit of a tech noob. What are temps? I did clean out laptop, but COH crashes. I'm gonna try to contact support again.

Temperature. You can use an application like HWmonitor to look at the current temperature of your PC components. Link. One that we're particularly interested in is seeing what the Max temperature for your GPU (Nvidia) is after you've played some CoH and had a crash.

Just got responded by support. Fixed the problem! If anyone else is experiencing this, here's what support suggests:

It sounds like you had too much running. Your system was running out of resources.

I know I got a huge boost in performance for my own computer by disabling the Windows 7 prefetch for frequently used programs, even if they load a little slower to start with since they are no longer hogging RAM when not in use.
