I almost always push spiritual, since the effective 30 percent global recharge of the T4 is hard to beat.

BUT, on the resistance sets.... Yeah, the extra 20 percent, of which 13.33 is over ED, is....really, REALLY, nice, especially on Brutes and Tankers.

ESPECIALLY on Tankers. Electric Armor can be...scary.

Yes indeed, if you are dead-set on a fire/fire scrapper, this is a much better goal, and just be a pill-popper.

Er, the 'grief code' (yeah, TERRIBLE name) has a lot of components. As much damage as a fire/fire is doing, the addition of burn won't change that. They're gonna run away, no matter what.

Killling them before they GET away, however, works wonders! On my claw/fire, focus got a lot of use dropping runners.
  3. This question actually touches on a considerably more complex question, namely, the 'dimensionality' of a power and the relative effectiveness of enhancing each dimension.

...aspect? I dunno, call it what ya want.

    For example:

Resist Physical Damage is a 'one dimension' power: It does only one thing, and can only be enhanced for that one thing, resistance. So, there is NO SET IO that is more effective than a basic IO. However, the 'one shot uniques' exist largely to give the invention sets an advantage with one dimension powers like this, I suspect.

However, the huge majority of powers are more complex. For example, all attacks are "four dimensional" at a minimum: They can be enhanced for damage, endurance, recharge, and accuracy. Many attacks have even more than that!

Here is where IO's really shine, if you weight all dimensions equally. A '2 effect' IO gives more bonus total than a single IO. A '3 effect' IO gives more than a 2 effect. The maximum total enhancement you can commonly get is a "4effect" IO, which is why the Mako Quad gets so many recommendations from me.

Now, this gets much more complicated with set bonus considerations, and bumping against the ED cap, and with the Incarnate powers (especially Alpha).

So, in any multi-dimensional Resist power, (mostly resist and end) it is 'better' numerically to slot 2 effect resist end IO's, as long as you weight endurance and resistance equally.

    See how simple that is?
  4. I would be interested in this, I think.

    When do you run, usually?

    infinite price.

I'm trying for a long time on MHD but I can't succeed on it ...

This requires either barrier or the seer pet with fort to reach softcap, or handily exceeds with both. And yes, two damage auras and all that AOE is gonna be SICK.

    Build: Spines/electric
Price: Very high, if you get the Glad with merits, Infinite otherwise
Build goals: Softcapped S/L, permahasten, perma energize
Build weaknesses: Will have to use power siphon often, no taunt aura, ranged toxic, ow
Incarnate: YES, requires Spiritual and either Barrier T4 or Seer T4

    Ergh, weapons sets means redraw....

But you're right. It'd have to be katana for the moar speeds.

Eeesh, the redraw would make me insane.
  7. Just for the record, I feel fire/willpower/soul is a superb combo on a brute, leveraging every strength of the AT to the maximum.

That said, and invuln brute, properly build, is ridiculously tough. FAR more durable than a willpower.

But if you want to be THAT tough, roll a tank.
  8. No, I did not typo that.

Among the scrapper primaries, IE, attack sets, which one gives the most mitigation?

Dark melee is pretty obvious due to siphon life, but how about martial arts and the stuns+knockdown? Weak sauce?

Is there another primary that's better for survivin'?

Reasoning: I'm looking at a build designed for no exemping which uses the fire APP as most of the attack chain, and want to get some mitigation from primary powers to complement the secondary and incarnate powers.

    Thoughts appreciated!

Well, you sure picked a doozy for your first scrapper. You're pretty much defenseless on a fire/fire, just a seething mass of damage and MOAR DAMAGE.

Maybe you wanna try something a little less...crunchy? For your first go?

    Quote:
I think its because I normally play support that I have discovered that I have absolutely no idea how to slot this character. Everytime I try a new build on mids it always seem to fall short. I am looking for a damage dealing monster that can stand up to just about anything - groups and AV's alike (if a fire/fire can handle an AV which I have no idea if he can or not but I assume he can). I normally play solo but he should be able to go into a group if I feel like it.

With that description, may I recommend a fire/fire tank? You can keep your concept intact, and get some MUCH needed durability, and I promise you, the damage is still quite good. Insane, even.

    Quote:
Damage is clearly not an issue. Both Fire melee and Fiery Aura have great damage dealing powers (is Burn worth taking as a damage dealing power by the way?)

    YES.

My issue seems more to be with survivability.
Fire/fire scraps are VERY delicate. I got a claws/fire to 50 and that was tough, even with the knockdown of focus to help out. But OMG, the damage.....

    Quote:
I am assuming that if I slot for recharge and aim for perma-hasten then thats a good start - as healing flames and consume will be up more frequently. But is that enough? Getting soft-capped defence as well as perma-hasten seems a tough order so should I go for a HP Regeneration or Resistance instead? I am not afraid of expensive builds - I like a challenge!

There's challenge, and then there's madness. I do like your crazy.

But I urge you, take your ideas and do the tanker, you will be happier with the result. Everything on that list is not possible with a fire scrapper. Sorry.

Please note I am NOT asking for builds - I like to figure these things out for myself but can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction?

PS - whats a good APP? Blaze fits concept but body looks nice.
You NEED body, you need every scrap of survival you can eke out. And lord knows, you don't need any more attacks

    Most of all, have fun!

    Spiritual.

If your end is under control on an invuln (and with stamina, physical perfection, and conserve power, why ISN'T it) then the +recharge is in my opinion, a no brainer.

Recharge helps Dull Pain and every attack you have. Recharge gets you more build up and more hasten. Recharge is your friend.

Well, it depends on how tough you want to be. Remember, you are STILL a tank. You just happen to also do scrapper-style damage.

Here's the actual live build I play on my fire tank:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...87#post3628087

It is very VERY durable, and still does...a lot of damage. And this is a 'durable' fire tank build, not a damage heavy one.

I don't understand why people keep saying this.

The Devs have made their intentions perfectly clear: The Incarnate system is the same as becoming a virtual level 60.

Of COURSE we're going to be OMG awesome.

    THAT's THE POINT.

As for the OP, may I recommend the old classic, the fire/fire tanker? You will not be disappointed, I assure you.
  13. Yeah, and when we get a good build, let's toss it into the build thread.

I'd make one, but I'm not solid on katana. The funky names confuse meh.
  14. Criminy in a bucket, what a friggin' trainwreck.

To the OP: If yer SS/Fire is so badass, start farming the Aeon's Army AE mission for tickets at +4x8.

If you want challenge, it's easy to find, don't sit in your comfort zone and kvetch.

That said, you do have a kernel of truth in your whine: Brutes are quite a bit better under Incarnate rules than other melee toons. So what. Brutes are graceless thugs. Scrappers got STYLE.

I bet it was COT, and one of those damn ghost LT's had debuffed his to-hit.

COT is the only faction in the game that's MUCH easier above level 40.

And don't me started on how nasty Vahzilok are. There should be Vahz all the way to 50, and they'd make every other faction look like tinkerbell fairies.
  16. First: Those darn broots really need to stop drinkin' beer on the couch and pick up their game.

Second: Since I don't particularly love broot's, all I'm doing is a quick glance. Hmm.

Ditch the kismet, an Invuln totally doesn't need it.
Only three slots in Invincibility, and put in three Cytoskeletons.
Drop laserbeam eyes, pick up hasten. Yank the slot from Invincibility and two-slot hasten. Take the four slots from laserbeam eyes and add a sixth slot to your other attacks. I recommend Acc/End/Rech triples in all of them.

    Go forth and SMASH.

(PS: LOVE that name. EM/inv strikes me as nearly ideal for sci-fi/robot/mad science toons. )

    Sssshhhhh!!!

Assuming you are looking at Ring of Fire with a T4 Reactive Proc in it, I think it is.

It depends on your design goals. On this build, I wanted a real tank, that also did good damage. I've tanked LR, I've herded the Patrons, I've herded Bobcat, Neuron, and both robots, I spike the crystals, I spike the toxic sewer towers, etc, etc. This toon fears nothing.

Maybe it takes me an extra three seconds to kill some things. I balance that through always being alive and producing damage.

Well, unless I do something silly.

    Quote:
Especially noticed that in [Healing Flames], don't normally see a resistance set get put in there.
Yuppers! Did that for the 'toxic towers' in the Apex. I start hitting healing flames as fast as it recharges, and by the time we hit the towers, I have 90 percent toxic resistance.

It's fun watching truly beastly tanks melt away around me as I just keep on blazing down the towers.

And honestly, I feel it's a good fit there. It's not like that power is underperforming.

    Quote:
Also, what kind of costs does it take to reach that sort of level?
Heck, I don't know. I'm a packrat, I have stuff tucked away in my base for a rainy day. When I decided to build this toon, I leveled it up and then dug stuff outta bins until it looked about right.

    Quote:
So far, I haven't spent more than 10 mil on any one item, and have mostly spent 1-3 mil depending on what the rare salvage is going for. I did just get lucky enough to get a Hecatomb drop today which will hopefully net me over 350 mil which will help some.
    Grats!
  19. Well, that was surprisingly easy! I had to dump it into a local Mids and add in my accolades and Incarnates, but the build came through just fine. Oh, I left off my barrier, it makes the numbers look CRAZY in Mids if you put that in.

But anyway, here's the live build of my fire tanker. It's a bit of a mess right now, I hate respecs so this is how I leveled it up, but it has all the essential bits in place and is plenty tough for my purposes And yes, I totally put the Glad proc in the wrong power, it's the one thing that'll get me off my lazy tail to respec....someday.

  20. Cripes, I had to count digits twice.

    I say, you win!
  21. Wow.

    Ok, First, great name

Second, it looks like you're trying reaaaallly hard to get damage bonuses from IO sets.

Now, you can play anything you like, and I'm sure that toon plays just fine, but.... It's a very low-payoff trade to slot IO sets for damage. Especially on a fire/fire tank, you want defense, then recharge.

It's MUCH easier to get defense than it is to get +damage. For example, the 23 percent melee defense on this toon cuts the amount of damage you take in the scrum by about half. The +20 damage bonus you have slotted will raise your outbound damage by about a tenth, and quite a bit less if you use fiery embrace/buildup constantly. If you traded in those damage bonuses for +defense, you could cut the damage you still take in melee to a fourth of what you suffer now, easily.

Alternatively, more recharge would get your heals up faster, your consume up faster, your fiery embrace(OMG!) up faster, and let you use your best attacks much faster. Recharge is teh gud.

I've been meaning to tinker this titan thingy so I could pull some live builds, let me see if I can get the build off my fire tank and pop it in here, so you can see what I mean.
  22. Heh, I just finished one of these for an alt, and tossed it into the Builds Thread.
