  1. I'm not sure if you realized this, but being polite and respectful and being correct aren't synonymous. Being polite is nice and all, but if you're constantly trying to pass off bad advice to players who don't know better, that's not really being polite or respectful, is it?

Resistance has been more popular than defense since the very beginning in PvP simply because resistance is reliable. Defense means you might not get hit as often, but when you do get hit, it hurts, and of course it's very subject to luck where resistance is not. Nevermind that the plethora of tohit buffs available can negate defense as well. In short, there's no way to balance a mechanic based on luck when you're fighting other players who have a way to directly counter that mechanic. Elusivity and DR caps on tohit and defense helped, a little bit, but defense isn't really much better off than it was before I13.
  3. It really depends on the attack. Something like Neutrino Bolt, I'll actually slot 2 Nucs and 4 procs, simply because the recharge and end costs are already so low. Something like Cosmic Burst, I'll do 4 Devastations (+hp, +dam) and then fill the 5th and 6th slots with either procs or a range IO and proc.

The only way bases are an inf sink is if you routinely purchase prestige with influence. By running in SG mode past level 25, you're not causing influence to leave the economy, but causing it to enter the economy at a slower rate.

A billion? I put together a good build for about 300 million at buy-it-now prices, and that was on the redside market.
  6. Skip them both. Lightning Rod and Thunderstrike are good enough for AoE purposes.
  7. A billion is a lot, unless you're looking for a very specific tricked-out build. You can put together good cheap builds for a few hundred million. Of course, I'm one of the people who are looking for the tricked-out builds, so a billion is right in the neighborhood of what my builds usually run. I don't have any toons with 10 billion inf on them (my Fire/Psi is closest with 7 or 7.5) but I'm sure that I've got a bit more than that if I pool things together.
  8. Y'know, they could just get rid of phase suppression and no one would notice. Given how required phase is these days under zone rules, and with the I14 change allowing phased players to attack each other, it's silly that there's still a restriction on it (or at least 120 seconds, it should probably be half that).
  9. Bad = not good.

    See what I did there?
  10. A "normal player" will take probably years to hit the merit cap (it's 9999). I know a few who have, but they're certainly not what I'd consider normal.

Unless the system forces you to take a random roll and the merits it would've granted (minus 20 for the roll), you don't have this option. One of the reasons supply was reaching the market before I13 was because people had to choose the random roll (or an SO or nothing, which were not attractive options). Now, a player can simply hoard merits to buy something else - let's say they save 200 merits for a LotG. Even if they don't use that LotG and decide to list it on the market instead, that's effectively 9 recipes that aren't making it to market. You can't force someone to random roll with their merits, in short.

AE should not give xp, prestige or infamy.
    Leave tickets and inspirations though.

The reason for this is that people still find it easier to play AE to lv then playing the actual game and there buy artificially increasing the cost of items on the market.

If everyone did regular game content market prices would drop as players would get normal drops.

My suggestion should be a simple fix to this problem and also return market prices to pre AE.
Given that one of the selling points of the MA was the ability to level comparably to normal content, I really don't see them doing that. Given that most players are after rewards just as much (or more) as a good story, removing the rewards would mean almost no one would even use the MA.
  13. Merits will never be tradeable because there is one (two?) veteran reward which gives 5 merits. All you'd have to do was create lowbies over and over and pass the merits off to a different character.

    Stealth Question

Mids doesn't give you perception numbers.
  15. Any long-interrupt TP powers and Jump Pack. I've bugged it multiple times but I doubt it'll ever get changed because apparently being able to survive on a squishy in zone isn't working as intended.
  16. Generally when most people here agree that someone is bad, they are.
  17. More PvP-enabled, zones is a bad idea. This game's PvP population is even smaller than it was before I13 and spreading them out even further won't help. However, I think a case could be made for duplicates of zones - one with I12 rules and one with I13 rules. I have a feeling more people would be going to the I12 zones.
  18. Updating this (also, can we get this thread unstickied and/or deleted, as there's zero point in it existing anymore?):

    Q. Where can I pvp in CoH/CoV? Is PvP cross-server?

    A. Freedom RV and Siren's are the only places to find reliable PvP, and only some of the time in Siren's. PvP is not cross-server, which is not a big deal because most PvPers have moved to Freedom anyways.

    Q. What’s the best server to PvP on? Is there an official or unofficial PvP server?

    A. Freedom. Some people say Virtue has an active PvP population but more often than not Virtue RV is a few Regens getting AS'd during duels and then whining about it.

    Q. What is this test server you speak of, and how do I get on it?

    A. Irrelevant, as the devs have a history of bringing test down for betas on dates when there are PvP events scheduled (not to mention no one PvPs on test anymore).

    Q. When is there PvP on Test? Is it in the arena or zones? What level? Heroes or villains?

    A. There isn't.

    Q. What PvP SGs are active on Test? How do I join one?

    A. There aren't any. There are six or so active on Freedom (see the PvP section for information on the current Freedom PvP League).

    Q. What’s the PvPEC and how can I find out about their events?

    A. The PvP Event Committee, or PvPEC, is a player led group that works with the NCSoft community team to arrange PvP Events. They’ve run several large, successful events both on the live servers and test, giving out prizes ranging from in game yellow titles to CoH/CoV shirts and capes. The PvPEC’s website is here. People interested in volunteering or finding out more should inquire there.

    Q. Where can I find out about the PvP SG/VG Ladders?

    A. There hasn't been a ladder since I13 (well, we tried in I14 but that died after all the Renegades got banned). There probably will not be another one.

    II. Specific Problems

    Q. I keep getting AS’d by a stalker I can’t see. What can I do to prevent him from ASing me? How can I see him?

    A. Keep moving if you're industrious. Otherwise just stand still, because a single AS isn't a threat to anyone anymore because people couldn't figure out how to use the W, A, S, D, and spacebar keys.

    Q. I keep getting held/feared/slept/disoriented/immobilized. What can I do?

    A. Absolutely nothing, because people couldn't figure out how to use Break Frees, so now you get mezzed no matter what. Bonus points if you chain the above two questions together - getting mezzed and then AS'd.

    Q. How can I get out of TK?

    A. Wait for it to shut off or for you to take damage, since it's now an autohit hold that you can't do anything about.

    Q. What can I do if someone is using tp foe on me?

    A. Bring oranges since no one plays Kins in zone anymore, or just keep on moving because the phase period after being TPd means you never really have to worry about getting trapped anyways.

    Q. Is X cheating?

    A. While there are many different things that X can be, generally speaking the answer is no. TPing people into holes in the geometry in PvP zones is a petitionable offense, as is the use of language that breaks the EULA, but other than that, everything goes in a PvP zone. Trailing NPCs to another player is perfectly legal, as is killing someone repeatedly, popping lots of inspirations, interrupting duels and rep farms, stopping someone from getting nukes, using your tier 9 before you go into sirens, or really anything else you can think of.

    Q. How can I get people to respond helpfully to my post?

    A. The PvP forums aren’t always the gentlest of places, and poorly worded or thought out posts can often engender only rude or unhelpful responses. Before posting I highly recommend double checking that your question isn’t already here and hasn’t been asked recently. When writing a post, use proper grammar, show you’ve thought about your question, try to ask a clear and narrow question, and most of all, keep it succinct. Posting a build of your own and asking for criticism is more likely to get a helpful response than just asking someone to post a build for you. If your post is longer than two paragraphs and a build, it’s too long.

    III. Guides

    Useful References for PvPers:

All of these were old and obviously no one read them or we wouldn't have had I13 shoved on us.

    Recommended Guides:

    See above.

    Introductory and Zones Guides:

    See above.

    Build specific guides:

See above. Also a good rule of thumb for post-I13 PvP builds is to take all the powers that are really bad in PvE, because odds are they'll be good in PvP. Want a hybrid PvP/PvE build? Too bad.

I can't explain why blue siders waste market slots on selling snipes
Ironically, this also means that the snipe recipes that do make it to market are actually somewhat expensive. A few of the Manticore pieces will sometimes fetch eight-digit prices on the BM.

I was IOing my Rad/Storm Corruptor very early Sunday morning in an attempt to have it all IOd and accoladed by that evening. Ended up running me about 1.5 billion, and that was after slotting three Zephyrs, a Numina, a Miracle, two LotGs, and various Karma/Steadfast -KBs that I had lying around in base storage. 900 million of that was the Apocalypse proc and a third LotG, and I'm confident I spent somewhere between 80 and 100 million on salvage. Almost certain that I could've cut that 1.5 billion down to around a billion if I'd've had the time to be patient - most of the big spending came from buying various pool C/D recipes, as the only level they're generally available is max level and so they demand a higher price (I could lowball bids on lower level recipes, but it might be weeks or months before an item is even listed, and that wouldn't guarantee I'd even get it). I've found for non-pool C/D recipes, you can often find great deals on non-max-level recipes and enhancements, even though they enhance only a few percentage points less (why pay 5 million for this level 50 piece when there's a level 48 up for sale and I can get it for 1 million?).
  21. Needs a lot more recharge, needs Confront, doesn't need Ripper, needs Barb Swipe instead of Lunge (check the PvP damage, you'll see why), needs Phase. Drop Fitness pool, QR + heal uniques should be enough to make up the loss. Build Up, Lunge, and Focused Accuracy are very poorly slotted.
  22. Dark is decent-ish in duels when paired with some primaries (Fire, Sonic, Rad, Elec).
