I would try to make my PB stuff like the WS stuff and my WS stuff like the PB stuff...See if I can really confuse anyone.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Same here. If I can look like I just turned off white dwarf before I activate teleport I know it'll confuse some veteran khelds.
  2. I'm putting up the dps to wreck the pylons in sufficient time. I'm able to survive the attacks pretty easily. However, every 5 seconds or so I get knocked back and in the time it takes me to get up it regenerates enough to nullify my dps...

    Cruelest joke ever devs!
  3. The idea I have for my TriForm WarShade build is that when I have a dwarf and squid button, and if I 'm in that form when I press the button it switches me to the form and changes my keybinds. If I press the button again while in the form it changes me back to human and loads my human binds.

    In other words:
As a human I press z to change to squid and load my squid binds, and press c to change to dwarf and load my dwarf binds.

As a squid I press z to change to human and load my human binds, and press c to change to dwarf and load my dwarf binds.

As a dwarf I press z to change to squid and load my squid binds and z to change to human and load my human binds.

It's a very simple finite state machine... that doesn't work in practice. I'm using three different bindfiles, here are the relevant parts:

    AlphonzDwarfTriformBuild1.txt
    C "powexec_toggle_off Black Dwarf $$ bind_load_file AlphonzHumanTriformBuild1.txt"
    Z "powexec_toggle_on Dark Nova$$bind_load_file AlphonzNovaTriformBuild1.txt"

    AlphonzHumanTriformBuild1.txt
    C "powexec_toggle_on Black Dwarf$$bind_load_file AlphonzDwarfTriformBuild1.txt"
    Z "powexec_toggle_on Dark Nova$$bind_load_file AlphonzNovaTriformBuild1.txt"

    AlphonzNovaTriformBuild.txt
    C "powexec_toggle_on Black Dwarf$$bind_load_file AlphonzDwarfTriformBuild1.txt"
    Z "powexec_toggle_off dark nova $$ bind_load_file AlphonzHumanTriformBuild1.txt"

Currently it works fine switching from into dwarf or squid, however switching back to human fails. It'll load the file but won't toggle back to human form. It's as though powexec_toggle_off isn't working, but it's not throwing any errors for me.

Any help would be much appreciated. I also posted this on the kheld forum, but posting here too seemed wise to me.

  5. My DM/FA brute gets played a lot. It's my go to toon for when I'm not sure what I want to play. It's also my favoriate toon to solo with.

My Fire/Fire Blapper and Storm/Ice Offender get frequent play whenever I'm doing high level teaming.

But if a bug is irritating enough, people should complain about it until it gets fixed. How difficult it is shouldn't really be a factor. I think power customization is a good example of this. Assuming we are getting this in i16, that is a lot of work that had to be done and is still being done to get it to work. If people didn't keep wanting this and keep asking for it does anybody think we would have got it anyways? After all, why do all that work if there isn't demand for it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Other hero themed games are including power customization and are scheduled for release this year.

Judging by what BaBs has said about implementing power customization, the biggest obstacle was that it's obnoxiously time consuming which translates to being a feature they have to throw a lot of money at.

I may want to wait till power customization comes out as it may give me some options to do fun stuff like giving Psychic Melee some more aggressive animations.

    Huh?

    *scratches head*

On a more constructive note, you don't have to be concerned about a controller or dom being easy to play. Mastering the art of fighting statues is surprisingly engrossing.

On a (slightly) less constructive note...

I'm a few credits away from having my 1337 coder degree, and I make a living as a codemonkey. My mental response to the title of the thread was "ffs, I hate customers."

On the one hand, programmers as professionals are bizarrely tolerant of screw ups (aka bugs) than other professions. On the other hand complete debugging gets expotentially difficult as the program increases in complexity. I'd argue that writing a bug free video game of this complexity in finite time is impossible.

I'm not going to say that this makes bugs acceptable. However, if you're playing coh after a long day of coding, you'd empathize with the devs.

    Leveling sucks.

    Seriously.

Right now I'm on the forums instead of playing because my severe altitis and desire to play high level toons is conflicting. I really appreciate the variety of content we have for the journey from 1-50, but it's sucking the fun out of the game for me that in order to get a new toon to the point where it's as fun to play as my high level toons I have to invest 2-20 hours of gameplay. It really sucks.

I really enjoy being able to spend time with a character learning the ins and outs of powers and their interactions. However, linear level progression only feels like it's adding time to the process without much benefit. Every character I play at 50 eventually develops into an entirely different being than it was at 49. Intuitively it'd seem that adding powers one by one would teach me to use them effectively, but once I finally have the full tool box it's like starting the learning process all over.

I can't really explain it right now (trust me, I tried but none of the anecdotes I typed got the point across), but the point I want to make is that when you're missing tools from your tool box it's hard to improve as a player. Leveling just feels like a tutorial that introduces you to your powers slowly and it sucks.
  10. Personally, I like the existence of powers that can actually modify playstyles. I hate when the game feels like I'm going through an attack chain mindlessly, and could probably easily be played by a bash script.

Knockback powers tend to require some thought to use, and it's a powerful form of mitigation that has a self balancing downside. Just think of how overpowered Storm Summoning would be there was a way to change all the kb into kd. It kinda sucks that when you have a bad teammate with lots of KB they're very notable, but that's what learning curves are for. Tutor them or kick them.

As far as knockback powers within melee sets, I don't think they warrant change. Single target kb is again a form of mitigation that's not troublesome. The only AOE kb powers I can think of are Thunder Clap and Hand Clap, which both have situational use. It would be an outright buff to make either of those powers KD, and neither of them is in a set that remotely needs a buff.
  11. Ninja's are highest damage!?!?!?! Thugs are most survivable!?!?!?!?!? My mind has been blown!

I'm assuming that Ninjas smash pretty hard when you can keep them alive, which makes sense.

But I thought thugs were considered squishy, what gives?
  12. Just wondering about pet performance, ignoring every other factor. I'm only worrying about the 6 commandable pets with both their upgrade powers.

What puts up the most single target damage, and what's the most survivable?
  13. Opps, meant to post this on the mastermind board, not the defender board. My bad.

Of course, I also have Hurdle three-slotted, Combat Jumping and enough +Movement from IO set bonuses and other sources to give that character a total Jump Speed of ~53 mph, so bouncing into and out of spawns is relatively easy for me... and something I'd be doing anyway, for no good reason other than the joy of bouncing... *shrug*

So Luminara is not only the official master of Trick Arrow, but also the official Defender Forum Pogo Stick?
  16. Seriously! When playing with a rad that has fallout and mutation, Teleport -> Nuke -> Fallout -> Mutation, wipes a group quickly and you don't miss a beat.
  17. Storm/Ice

Blizzard is the single highest damage aoe in the game, and freezing rain just means everybody is stuck in it for the duration and taking bonus damage. I wish sex felt this good.
  18. The point of farming is that you're fighting enemies you can control trivially easy and kill quickly. I've never done the f/k farming thing, but I'm pretty sure if you're trying to cap your defense you're doing it wrong.

I really don't think it's that hard to do SB every two minutes. You can set up a cycling bind that will let you hit one button over and over to SB your whole team. If you can't tap one key sixteen times (I tend to separate my targeting and casting binds) every two minutes, you should not be playing a buff set.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The point is that while you are hitting that key 16 times, there's other stuff you are not doing. If I were a kin defender, it would be no sweat. But I posted this in the troller forums. I'm an ice troller. I can shut down gobs of mobs....if I am not hitting speedboost all the time

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you're more useful shutting down gobs of mobs instead of speed boosting the team, then shut down gobs of mobs instead of speed boosting the team. Controllers have two support powersets, and it's up to you and not your teammates how to best use your powers.

And keep in mind one important difference between ally shield powers and speed boost. Cold, FF, Thermal, and Sonic shields are each two powers that recharge almost instantly and last for 4 minutes. Kin has 1 ally targetted buff that lasts for half as long. So if you're keeping the team speed boosted you're not actually spending propotionally more time buffing the team (disregarding any differences an activation time).

But really, people asking for SB in general should be told to [censored]. I'm assuming you can play your build and make your own decisions. Do it.

Why do I have to press the Howl and Scream buttons over and over? They're on this frequent, every-few-seconds recharge, as if the game wouldn't know I want to shoot my opponents as frequently as possible.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe the solution is to reduce buff durations down to 10 seconds. That sounds like a lot of fun.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Personally I'd love to see a set consisting that consists of nothing but buffs that are around as powerful as Build Up and Moment of Glory, but only last 10 seconds. It'd be nice to have a buff set that was completely based around proper timing and target choice like any attack set.

Of course you'd probably see this same thread with same people complaining because they can't wrap their minds around using buffs strategically....
  21. If anything kinetics needs a nerf.

I beleive you're talking about late game, where Speed Boost is kinda meh and Fulcrum Shift is the number one leading cause of happiness. Personally, I prefer to tell people who whine about SB to shut the [censored] up... which is probably why people don't me when I'm on my kins :/

But anyway, kin is at least powerful enough and doesn't at all need a buff. People need to just stop watching the buff bar for when SB drops and start playing their own toons better.
  22. I was hoping it would go without stating that I was taking into account that Invuln is supposed to win at tanking S/L damage. However, Dual Blades is miles behind Super Strength, Broadsword, Katana, and every other set that deals S/L damage. The same tank that shrugs of 15 Dual Blades bosses is almost instantly killed by any other set.

The point isn't that it doesn't hit hard, it simply doesn't hit hard enough. It simply doesn't compare to other melee sets.
  23. Dual Blades is currently insanely easy to tank and really needs to be brought up a notch. Every other set either does more damage or has some sort of a secondary effect. With minimal support I could tank spawns of 15 +3 Dual Blades bosses on a Inv/SS tank at level 22 with basic IO's. No other custom critters are so trivially easy to tank, with the possible exception of elemental damage vs. a tank of that element.

I suggest either adding some AoE damage to it at standard difficulty, giving it's basic attacks a secondary effect (i.e. -def), or buffing the damage. Right now it's just too easy to farm.
  24. /signed

Every MMO has some area where people go to farm and grind their [censored] off, but typically only for people who know where to look. To find it you either had to do a quick google search or play the game until you stumble upon it. CoH was like this back when the farming zones were PI and Grandville. If you weren't looking for farms you didn't find the zones until level 38ish.

Currently a person buys the game and is inundated with farming spam from the moment they exit the tutorial. If they move the AE building to level 15+ zones (i.e. Cap and Skyway) , it wouldn't be a hassle for vets to get there at level 1, but people would have played the game for a while before stumbling accross it.

On the downside, people who come to the game just to see the MA would have to look for it as opposed to being slapped in the face by it. However, I don't see this as a huge problem.

It's a lot like the porn folder on your computer. If you keep it in desktop/porn, anybody who gets on your computer will see it. However, if you keep it in C:/porn only people who are looking for it or are doing something advanced will see it.
  25. Self Destruct is just the buff that RoTP and Soul Transfer needed.
