  1. Just did a BAF and LAM and encountered the same problem. As soon as NS spawned all the pets took off after her. Spamming passive go-to did nothing. Same thing happened in LAM with Marauder and the problem persisted even after re-summoning.

Are you certain of this? Store bought enhancements can be account bound and mailed between different characters on the same account.

    Just came back

What you choice for you incarnate powers largely depends on the strengths and weaknesses of your Primary/secondary and build. There are some that are a bit more popular, like those Alpha abilities focused on defense or recharge. Reactive is popular among Interface options if you have an AoE immobilize to spam.

Really it comes down to what your character can do and what holes you may want to fill.
  5. Understandly a good combo (Plant is good and Dark Affinity is good), but it really is lacking in synergy. Tar Patch is the only power that speeds up the already powerful Seeds/Creepers. In the meantime, Darkest Night is slowing down confuse damage with -tohit and -damage. And remember, you've got that from the player and Fluffy. I think Storm offers a bit more synergy with its pets that contribute a lot to single target damage; Time is also notable for adding -def/-res while offering lots of defense while its recharge debuffs still allow for a the enemies to hit themselves with a strong alpha.

On a plant troller I avoid them, but the mag 6 from Seeds + Domination overtakes them easily.

Our sense of morality, what we call morals, may have diverged from the Furies' sense since then.
You're emphasizing "the oaths", but to what exactly are you referring? I need some clarification on what you perceive is the difference between "oaths" and "the oaths".

From what I have seen, the Furies as they've been depicted are virtually amoral with the exception of two virtues which seem to be central to their motives: avenging trespasses and punishing oathbreakers. It's easy to see how morality, in the common sense, could evolve from this. If you anger your neighbor to the point they'll want retribution then you'll be struck down by the Furies (or your neighbor who has been empowered by them). In order to not anger your neighbor you don't sleep with his wife, kill his family, take or destroy his belongings, or lie to him about things you have done or will do.

I don't take issue with trash talking because I don't need to. I just beat 'em in game, problem solved. You can't compare online competition to offline competition like that, since people aren't anonymous offline. I'm not saying anonymity makes it right, just that it makes it more likely to occur. I simply ignore it (and I'll admit it's even amusing sometimes), though I realize not everyone has the ability to do that. What everyone seems to forget, though, is that it's usually a very small minority of people who are actually engaging in said trash-talking and it's very easy to forget about a small minority.
The disjoint here is that you feel I'm calling for perfect behavior when I feel I'm merely calling for good behavior. Or even just a lack of bad behavior. Ideally, people would offer up "nice kill" or "gg", something positive, after they've gone a round or two but I'm not even suggesting that. I expect a basic amount of civility that requires one to pause for a moment and decide not to type out "lol, u suk" or "****ing ganker".

Unfortunately, while the bad behavior may come from a small minority its human nature to remember bad experiences longer than the good. A single bad experience with a restaurant, for example, can sour a person from ever going there again. That nature makes it all the more important for the community to embrace a basic standard that minimizes those bad impressions. Telling outsiders to ignore or endure it won't improve the situation. The change needs to come from within the community by stating that they will not tolerate it.

'THE oaths', not just 'oaths', are what the Furies and/or the Talons believe exist as the basis of morality independent of the laws human civilization creates for itself. If the Furies and/or the Talons believe humanity is behaving indecently, there's hell to pay. The Talons are willing to let Mot devour the entire planet, so they likely believe that civilization itself is to blame for allowing everything in Dark Astoria to happen. If you're not part of their solution, you're part of their problem.
Good catch, but this conversation as well as others seem much more focused on the aspect of oath breaking rather than the Furies as judges of morality. As Sam said, they seem more primordial and amoral. They've certainly aligned themselves with factions that lack moral fortitude, i.e. the Cimeroran traitors. The only thing that seems consistent in their depiction is their association with revenge.

    Quote:
Not really sure why they picked the Knives as conscripts; all we hear from Heather Townshend is the part where the Talons/KoV hunt down the KoA that didn't want to be a part of the solution.
Coming from the perspective tying the Talons to oath breaking, I can see some association with the KoA. The KoA, after all, form a close sisterhood and severely punish those that attempt to defect. As the Knives swiftly punish those who break their oath to the sisterhood so do the Talons.

Requesting your source on this one because it's far from how I recall anything regarding the Furies.

As depicted in First Ward, the Talons pursued oath breakers and empowered individuals to seek vengeance against those that broke their promises, which tended to lead to a cycle of violence when people swore revenge on those who wronged them. We learn this from the Chronicles of Doom which we're sent to retrieve by Midnight Master.

In DA they're operating more loosely (poor writing?), but we do see in the case of Sigil and Kadabra Kill that broken pacts are part of their agenda. There's also another pact in play here. The history plaque for the "Authority" badge states that the hero Vambrace pledged to restore Dark Astoria and that the Freedom Phalanx was dedicated to helping all parts of Paragon. That kinda-sorta makes a lot of people responsible to justify the Knives/Talons rampage.

At any rate, there are a lot of unresolved questions regarding the Furies. Where have the primal Furies been all this time? Why did they choose the Knives of Artemis to empower?

Not everyone does it, but everyone is quick to remember the negatives as well as the most vocal parties.

Most times I play in RV I don't have broadcast turned on, because I know outside of putting together a team nothing positive comes out it. People are out there looking to get a rise out of someone who is sucker enough to fall for a troll. Someone who comes onto the board to say "I don't pvp because of poor sportmanship" but neglects to add "That I actively choose to listen to from a vocal minority" to me is trying to troll in a more subtle way.
There should be no burden for anyone to actively ignore other players; we should all instead be burdened with the duty to act mature and civil. Just like your example, baseball players shouldn't have to ignore the fans; the fans should be behaving like adults.

As for the rest? Honestly, I have to call BS on it. If you don't PVP for that reason, don't play any sport. Hell, badminton has trash talking. Yes, you get the occasional jerk in there - but you get that in PVE as well. Most of the people I ran across pre-I13, when the zones were actually *active,* were good players and actually *fun* to be around.
Honestly, when I played sports not all that long ago there was a zero tolerance policy on trash talk. We cheered on and encouraged our teammates instead of jeering and degrading the other team. At the end of every game we shook hands, thanked the other team for playing, and, if we lost, congratulated them on their win. At one time a kid refused to shake hands with the other team and was suspended for several games.

I'm not even that old, maybe it's just where I was raised, but we were taught sportsmanship as well. Unfortunately that seems like much more of an exception than the norm. Players, parents, and fans all seem to have found ways to act exceptionally childish these days from victory dances to angrily disputing calls to fist fighting in the stands.

They believe that after that's finished, the Furies will have the power to destroy Mot, which wouldn't work in the end since, as Diabolique explains as you fight her in Praetor Duncan's arc, Mot is becoming so powerful that he's beginning to Ascend.

The Talons are the reason why Mot's power is increasing more rapidly than expected during the course of the arcs. If you keep playing you'll find out just how much of an effect the Talons' work had.

Makes you wonder where the Furies are in all of this, saying 'Hey, you idiots, don't empower the eldritch death monster.' Marcus' restaurant doesn't need that much tending, even if he isn't around any more.
The Furies don't care one way or another about how morally bankrupt Primal Earth may have become. They're only concerned with oath breakers as explained in First Ward. That is to say, if I swear to steal candy from a thousand babies by the end of the month, they'll only be gunning for me if I don't hold to that promise. Likewise if I swear to save a thousand kittens from burning trees.

They came pursuing Diabolique and happen to stay when they found DA was full of unkept promises. There presence had the unfortunate side-effect of feeding Mot.

I wouldn't alter doms' control values; the only time I find them inadequate is pre-20. Once SOs open up they start performing sufficiently to my taste. However, I would alter the debuff values for some dom sets. Looking at Ice in particular, it takes a hit on doms with the lower debuff values and Ice's general lack of hard control. It takes a second hit by lacking powers that greatly benefit from Domination. If a control set is built around using debuffs for soft control then it needs to be their for doms as well as controllers.

    Addressing this again.

Electric is no worse off than other sets that are not Plant or Fire. It's AoE immobilize (which controllers typically use for damage, doms not so much) is the same damage as Earth, Ice, and Grav. It has Jolting Chain to seamlessly chain with its AoE immobilize. Synaptic Overload offers additional damage when enemies are not completely drained and two damaging pets round it out. It can easily beat out the previously mentioned sets as well as Mind once Interface comes into play. It's biggest fault in terms of damage is that Tesla Cage and Electric Fence both have relatively long activations, making its single target damage slower.

I think Laev is referring to the fact that a Mind Controller must utilize two powers (Mass Hypnosis and Terrify) to leverage containment for AoE damage while other sets need only use their AoE immobilize for containment and damage.

While I disagree with the assertion that Mind provides poor control, I must admit that as soon as Interface enters the picture the damage potential of most other control sets receives a hearty boost while Mind does not. Not only do the DoTs interfere with Mind's control, but it lacks a spammable attack to trigger the same damage that other controllers receive from Interface.
  21. Hmm, I seem to recall some ninja game (Ninja Gaiden or Shinobi?) where the player is assaulted by dogs with blades in their mouths.

In any case, if we ever see PCs using the 4-legged rig I imagine it will be part of a specific shifter AT so they won't have access to maces, swords, etc.

Umbra Beast's howl hasn't stopped me from playing the set, but it has provoked me to replacing the sound file with a blank. Its howling every 10-15 seconds was that annoying to me. Of course, it's not the first case of a sound driving people away from a set either; see Demons and Sonic Blast.

The overall presentation of Dark really takes a hit from Umbra Beast, annoying sounds and thematically restricting pet all rolled in one.

Yes, as with ALL new powersets, people will try it out, thus u see more toons with those powers. After the hype calms down, u see the people who like the powers play it. I always find it funny that people have 50s in new sets within days of their release. I suspect it contributes a lot to how quick excitement dies down for some sets. For me, I'm still working on first dark control character, slowing leveling her and learning the ins-and-outs of its powers.
  23. You're okay on Fade, DH. I'm not sure if Mids' has updated for the changes because I altered mine as well to reflect the changes.

I don't want to go into a full critique of the build at the moment, but your endurance issues really stand out. I would suggest moving from some slots from Soul Absorption to Stamina. On my dark/dark troller, I only use 2 slots in Soul Absorption with boosted End Mod/Recharge from Performance Shifter and Efficacy Adaptor. While SA does provide some impressive regen when fully saturated, Twilight Grasp should already provide enough healing for a high mitigation build.

But when the limits of what is believable are already pushing against the limit, it won't take much to push the setting over the edge from fantastic and unrealistic, into the absolutely ridiculous. The real core of this contention isn't about superheroic acts; we've already established they can be synonymous with magical ones in function. But what about the form? The acceptance of magic means that the laws of nature are no longer absolute. They mean that the metaphysical exists, that souls exist, that gods exist, etc, etc. Accepting magic in this setting is so much more than accepting it as a function of superheroics. It changes the core setting of the game's physical and metaphysical world in a significant way. So to me, such a suspension of disbelief is obviously very significant. And, given that I have looked deeper into this than you; beyond simply the function of magic, but rather at the form of magic; I would say my position is better developed than yours and thus the obvious conclusion.

That all said; my real concern in this thread isn't the presence of magic, but rather the over-presence of magic. It's very easy for me to hand-wave my above concerns if magic is only a minor focus in this game. But if it becomes a core driving focus, then all the genuine concerns I have about magic suddenly become more apparent, and the game's setting becomes all the more ridiculous.
Why is magic the straw that will break the camels back? It has played a long time role in CoH on both blue and redside and has a reasonably established lore. The addition of more magic isn't asking you to make any new concessions that didn't already exist. The magical lore of CoH has long established the presence of souls, gods, and forms of afterlife. Adding new forms of magic isn't asking you to accept anything into the setting that hasn't already existed in one form or another.

On the whole, magic gets a carte blanche from me because it does not exist so it can behave in anyway we imagine. What really strains my suspension of disbelief is the treatment of technology and science; there is no way, as previously mentioned, that a convincing human-sized steam-powered automaton could exist or that the human body can be mutated to generate extreme heat and cold or communicate telepathically. Science and technology in this game violate natural laws in just as grievous ways as magic but also ask to me to put aside what I already know about the natural world.
