Aha! I figured it out. Since you're level 1, you're presumably either new to the city- or new to being a hero. Either way, you're unable to control the excitement at first. Ergo, you tend to sprint towards your next destination because you want to experience it so badly.

Only after experiencing it a little to you unwind a little, and even start to think about taking things at a more relaxed pace. It's for this very same reason that you fight slightly less effectively than you might otherwise, choosing to rely on the most familiar attacks and not breaking out the 'fancier' attacks (IE level 2 and beyond attacks) which you're presumably already familiar with.

That's my suggested story explanation for it, anyway.

"You do not have to log out to switch character."

Since you can already log out of the game whole without waiting, and changing characters will be apperanatly instantaneous, this should solve your issue as a side benefit, right?

That's the quote that interests me the most, since it's the quote that runs most directly counter to my own experiences in MA. I've personally found the simple variety offered by the custom enemies I've faced alone makes them more interesting then standard enemies.

I've also found the best designed enemies tend to rival (and sometimes surpass) anything the game cannon enemies offers in terms of fun. Ergo, the idea of having more customs per mission is something that interests me personally.

Which makes it all the more grating when Venture us of "we" to express his own opinion all the more nerve grating.

Since he's so often using tv tropes for the basis of his reviews/ opinions, I'll steal a Mark Twain quote from the "I am Legion" page to sum up my annoyance.

"Only kings, presidents, editors, and people with tapeworms have the right to use the editorial 'we'. "

Because everything is better with a Mark Twain quote. (Although I'd be interested in hearing his definition of what makes a mob 'fun' to fight, and why he thinks MA mobs haven't been able to exceed the standard game's mobs in terms of 'fun' or 'interest.')

    That's not all bad.

If they released it after you got your new computer, you'd be patching at the same time everyone else is- plus you'd have to wait for it.

At least this way, when you get your computer back, everyone else will be done patching so your patch should go faster.

    Right?

    Just my two cents.
We've been waiting way too long for having a tailor at our base.. Personally, I'd like to see it along with some additional features.. like allowing the SG heads to insert a 'suggested' SG outfit for members to change into.

Another oddball idea I had was if you could set up the base-tailor to allow SG members to funnel influence/ infamy into the tailor. Then, when their SG mates use it, they influence would be set to pay for part of the tailor cost.. ideally, as set by the SG leader. So if the leader set it to 10%, SG members who made use of it would get a 10 percent discount- as long as there was still influence leftover to pay it off.

    That's my somewhat random idea.

  10. Personally? My first thought on this thread when I read it a while ago.. is the same as it is now.. I'd love to have dance emotes for regeneration aura, or recovery aura. I'm not sure why I even want it, other than I think it'd fit with those two powers.

That or the yoga sitting pose. For my mind controller's empathy auras.

When Mr. Miller confirmed we'd be gaining experience points while exemplared (except at level fifty, presumably meaning no level bump :P), I immediately (as in three or four days later) realized you could level to fifty in a single zone.. say, King's Row. I mean.. without being stuck in an Arachnos Exploit virtual reality machine.

But you'd have to find someone to sidekick/ lackey you to do so, for the entire time you were there.. With a self exemplar ability, that option would open up to you a bit. I personally would get a huge thrill exemplaring to a lower level and running some of my oldies through popular, well populated spots like Perez Park and Boomtown!

Well I have to think it'd make more sense from a "realism" point of view.
Smacking a wall at 80mph is likely going to hurt most people who aren't like stone tanks or some-such.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, as I see it, when you look at the inspiration for comics, most superspeedsters tend to also think and react far faster than the normal human being.

So when they're running at the wall, they instinctively put on the brakes and shift to a lower speed, managing to stop just millimeters short of impact, assuming they notice it in time.

Which, by sheer comicbook coincidence, just happens to be each and every time it happens.

That or they're moving at such high speeds, that they simply bounce off it like a piece of rubber... er.. due to the high speeds they're moving warping time.

    Makes sense to me, anyway!

As another train of thought, why can't villains choose their group affiliation?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've read them comment on this in the past... One of the things they attempted to do with City of Villains was to have Arachnos as the unifying theme. It's supposed to give the game more of an overall story than City of Heroes did.. It's not a decision I much care for personally, and this is the reason why- most of the game is written around the specific premise that you're taking part in the main storyline.. that you're basically an Arachnos free agent. Bearing in mind that there is an expansive amount of content, I'm guessing it would take a great deal of writing to fit even one additional group. I'm sure there are some contacts where it could be used interchangeably, of course. Others, I think, would have to see a complete rewrite in order to make sense to anyone who isn't in on the 'main' Arachnos storyline.

Or at least, that's how I've always understood it.

Got a screenshot so we can compare for ourselves? I mean, we're only listing two specific parts in this case... Like I asked earlier- isn't it possible that the buffs applied to you would all inherent a power color of your selection? Maybe they'll even offer a new selection on the creation screen for buffs applied to you. If not, it might simply set buffs to the same color that you set your own powers... IE a fire user who didn't modify his fire blasts and fire control set would red fire buffs, be it the ice armor buff or fortitude.

The upside to having a new selection for inherited buffs would be, you could choose if you want your own colors to override other buffs or not.

  18. Over emotional much?

Repeating a point IN ALL CAPS doesn't make the point more valid. It just comes across as obnoxious yelling. And what's your point. "You can't fix farming, so don't try. At all?"

In my mind, it’s like saying “Fire the police and save some money because you’ll never totally prevent crime from happening.”

You're assuming that they didn't consider the possibility of farming at all, just because they changed a drop rate later? Come on.

You then assume it wasn't tested internally. Where exactly is your source for that one? You are aware they have private test servers, right?

Your comparison is painfully off the mark when you compare the developers changing the rules to a MMO- which they've been doing to day one- in order to stop an exploit- to releasing a patch that allows students to change their own grades?

... Really? Is this change somehow allowing you to adjust your billing information to add extra time? You should probably bug that.

If we're being snarky and all that, here's how I see your post...

I realize you are still concerned about the idea behind motivating our Devs to want to provide this service by making it something that they could potentially earn money for. I'm not against the Devs having a new way to earn money per se.

    [/ QUOTE ]

With all due respect, where'd you get that opinion from?

I'm not against the developers of this game making money via transactions. I think generally speaking, more money going into the game is a good thing- although clearly, it's something they have to be careful about- since most people obviously expect a value out of the money they're asked to spend on extra goodies.

To be honest, I don't see the money back as that convoluted - it seems pretty straight forward to me.. but far be it from me to argue semantics.

Thanks Josh, seeing it described it as a punishment was bugging me.

I do agree that the whole point of the event is to make leveling easier, so I can't deny the validity of allowing 2xp in the AE.

My concerns are that we are seeing more and more new players that think the game consists solely of Atlas Park and the AE. If that's all they think there is to this game they are going to get bored and quit.

By excluding the AE we might get them out of the building and get them to look around and see all the other stuff in the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then we have to deal with them. :P

If rested exp doesn't apply, I'll admit I don't expect double exp to.. I'm not sure how I feel about that yet. At least rested exp, as a friend just mentioned, delays debt and, if you do get it, eats away at it.

Double exp weekend is just going to suck away players from MA.. of course, there's plenty of support for actively pushing players into the rest of the game as well.

I am leaning towards just flipping a coin to decide if I like it or not.

  22. Hi, everyone!

I'm back to hosting events after a lengthy absence! Hopefully, this time it'll go even better than ever!

Not too much to say- they're just test events, but hopefully enough people will show up that I can keep them going.

If enough people show up, I'll probably host my 'talent' contests with a 100K prize to the first place winner, and possibly a second and third prize. Talent contests usually consist of picking out an outfit, and answering a single, very off the wall question made up on the spot. *Grins* Being in character and avoiding unnecessarily dragging the real world into this is highly encouraged when answering.

Roleplay is encouraged, although the parties in general are not a strictly in character event. I’m expecting our coalition mates, Union Valiant and Arcanum, to be represented as these parties. We’ll also be on the look for possible new supergroups to coalition with!

Questions or comments go below, as always! Suggestions welcome.

    Costume creator?

Thank you all for your feedback!

Lothic's idea might be the best take on this so far.. although I'd suggest that it be more along the lines of once per 2 weeks. Maybe once per a month.. You don't think there should be a badge for being approved, do you?

    (I bet you say no.)

Since I was asked about my version.. I'll throw this idea out for you.

Someone's going to have to review the outfits, be it current staff, or someone entirely new.. And I'm sure they'd expect to be compensated for the work. That's the main reason I can't see it working- some of the submission fee would have to go to the right to be reviewed and possibly rejected.

Meaning most likely, they'd have to take the time to very clearly spell out their standards, which would drain even more of their time, writing up said guildelines..

That said, the best proposal I could think to address those concerns is two-fold.

    1) 9.99 USD for a submission. If rejected, you'd have the option of submitting a refined piece for review, without an additional cost.
    2) If you decide not to use that option, you'd get a partial refund. (I'm thinking it would be half or more of the original fee.)

You'd still lose out on a potion of the money (say, a couple bucks?) But it would be clearly stated in the guidelines. And promotional material. I doubt it'd stop complaining, but it should minimize it. Of course, you'd be highly encouraged to display the piece for feedback on the forums.. but only a minority of us read them, so that's a drawback to that suggestion.

As for the sheer volume of submissions- that is a problem for the reasons you stated. To be honest, besides the 9.99 price tag, I can't think of very many (any?) ways to minimize the number of pieces to a manageable level, other than to restrict it to a higher price.. which might cause more complaints than it would solve. And if you don’t minimize them, the amount of costume options you have to download, even with professional guidelines, could be quite overwhelming in terms of downloads.

The quality issue is a big one.. If it was limited to 'just' chest icons/ emblems, it might not be so bad. The tradeoff being, it would also be less useful for most of us.

Anyone got an idea for that problem?

    J/ Wilde
