A very cool read!
It would have been awesome to see some form of what Baumtown was like. Especially what the old Phalanx HQ would have been like.
I always thought the Phalanx should have had a much cooler base than some Longbow base. it should have been it's own high-tech building or separated pocket dimension or something like that. Recluse got his own zone. -
I apologize if any of these questions have already been asked.
1) What were your plans with the future of Praetoria? Were the heroes/villains going to take the fight to Hamidon and did you ever plan to have a Praetoria that was free of both Tyrant AND Hamidon? Or were you planning on continuing to integrate Praetorian groups into Primal Earth like you started to do with the two arcs that were to come out in i24?
2) Did you have any plans for continuing the Resistance/Loyalist storylines?
3) What were your plans for future SSA's? What concepts did you want to explore?
4) Were you planning on making any more Incarnate zones?
5) The clone that potentially survived in the Villain clone arc - any chances that they'd ever turn up again? And speaking of that, did you have any plans to continue to use the Doppleganger tech in the future, perhaps in another task force or trial?
6) What were your future plans for Katie from Praetoria? She DID survive, right? (You can lie to me if the answer is no.)
7) As far as the Praetorian Penny Yin goes, she went kinda nuts in the arcs in i24 - was this going to be something that would last awhile/what were you plans with that?
8) Was Tyrant ever going to show up again, powered or otherwise? I know he was on trial, but...were we ever going to see any bits of the trial and/or deal with the fallout from it? Were any villain groups going to try and interfere - or, for that matter, any hero ones?
9) Any future plans for the Shining Stars?
10) Were we ever going to get a chance to slap around Prometheus in Ouroboros? Pretty please?
11) Were there any plans to eventually make a Praetorian zone that would cover levels 40-50? When you were originally designing Going Rogue, was it intended to be 1-20 only, or was it originally designed to be higher level content and later reworked - and if it wasn't, why didn't you plan on making it last until level 50 instead of 20?
12) Was War Witch's revival going to be touched upon in any upcoming arcs or task forces?
13) Speaking of task forces - were there any plans for creating new ones, and if so, what would they have been? Or what would you have LIKED to have created? And as far as revamping the older ones go, which ones would have been next?
14) Were there any plans for expanding on the Council/5th Column war?
15) Is Sister Psyche truly dead DEAD or was there any loophole with her powers for her coming back in some way or form?
16) Were there any plans for Ms. Liberty to one day step up and become a member of the Phalanx in honor of her fallen grandfather? Expanding on this, were there any future plans in place for future roster changes and member shakeups?
17) How about Back Alley Brawler? Was his character going to get featured more? Any arcs planned for him? Or a taskforce? What would his reaction be to Marauder suddenly running around with the heroes?
18) Did you plan on expanding on the New Praetorians supergroup in future issues? Likewise for the villain-equivalent? -
I've tried Champions Online multiple times, and I just can't get into it. I was so excited when I got into the alpha test, and later the beta testing, but it just didn't grab me. I don't like the combat, the graphics look wonky, and the story didn't really grab me. It felt too much like a silver age game, and I didn't really like that.
I've tried DCUO a few times, but the character creator isn't that great, and I don't like playing in an established universe. I have my own problems with DC's comic universe that don't help either.
I tried WoW once a long time ago, but it never really grabbed my attention. I couldn't get into it.
I tried the original Guild Wars since it was on sale for ten bucks on Amazon once. I think I've played for a total of about fifteen minutes. I didn't like it. Guild Wars 2 looks really interesting, but like most everyone else, I'm hesitant to buy another NCSoft published game.
I tried the beta of The Secret World and while I like the concept, I don't really like the story that much. I mean, it's cool and all, but it's not really along my interests.
I tried a trial of Star Trek Online. I'm not a big Star Trek fan, but the game itself just felt really weird/boring.
I played TOR from it's beginning until about...March? Or April? Hard to say for sure. I kind of regret it now. On the one hand, the story-telling for some of the classes is top notch. The Imperial Agent story was simply fantastic. But other stories are hit and miss, and the combat feels really weak at times. On some characters, even basic mobs gave me trouble. I think I'm just too used to being able to wade into eight mobs at once and live to tell the tale. In TOR I had to be very cautious.
There's no other online game that really grabs my attention. Chances are, when SWTOR goes free to play, I'll return and check it out, see if I can't hook up with a few people from Pinnacle if they still play. I might check out Guild Wars 2 in the future if it looks like it's future will be somewhat stable.
Nothing will really replace CoH though. I've invested too much time and imagination into CoH to try and transfer that elsewhere. None of my characters would really work in another Universe. For better or worse, Paragon/Praetoria/Rogue Isles will always be their home. -
Studio.
Like my friend said, if they made another game, I'd definitely buy it. -
It was a lot of fun on Beta. I was going to pair it with fire melee on a brute. -
Quote:That would've been awesome to see!One of the reasons why I tried to get the license myself (no joke) to make it. Sure, it'd have been all in machinima (I can't animate), but I was storyboarding a script, figuring out voice actors, and had made enough contacts with musicians that were willing to score any project I wanted to work on.

I think the drawback of any MMO is the fact that it's an online game. There's no guarantee that it'll be around forever. The fact that it's online and has a community is also a great strength.
I wish there was a way for online games to have a single-player component or a way to ensure playing of the game after support has been withdrawn by the company. It's like having a car that can fit a lot of people, until the company that built it decides to move on and then suddenly the car doesn't work for anyone, least of all you. Not the best of comparisons, I know. -
Quote:An interesting concept. If it comes to that, I'd definitely like to help/participate.It's important to make it clear that Plan Z, if we were forced into it as our only option, would not be one person's interpretation of the game, or even the views of a small handful of players - what some people dislike about one part of the lore, others have use that same part to generate entire SGs - the main goal of a new IP would be to allow every single player's current backstory and bio to be translated into the new environment with only a few tweaks needed for names, places and dates.
-
I've been suffering a combination of denial, anger, and depression.
-
I think my biggest hurdle with the game is the blocking mechanism. I just don't really care for it.
-
You know, it would be kind of cool if someone created a website specifically for allowing players of the game to upload their works related to City of Heroes, whether it's stories, comics, fan-art, etc.
Maybe even allow for groups of people to work together towards creating a 'shared universe' type thing between the comics and stories. -
Awesome tool! It'll be nice to have a record of all this information if nothing else. Thanks for developing it.

Sent. Interested to see what you're up to!

Honestly? I would.
-
Kinda boring, but I absolutely would have loved being a writer for missions/characters/the world in general.
-
Didn't expect to see anyone else in my city! I'd forgotten about that.
-
That's really nice to hear. I'm glad that another gaming community, especially one created to be a competitor to our own game, is in support of us.
I also don't care for Champions, but if things turn out badly, I hope that those who go to it enjoy it for many years to come.
For me, there's just only one superhero game I want to play, and that's City of Heroes. Champions has a potentially fascinating universe (I don't know much about the lore) but the approach felt a little too classic comic-book for me. As far as DC's game goes...well, aside from not liking the game-style, I have problems with their Universe these days in general. And Marvel's future game doesn't really interest me much - I liked City of Heroes because it was a part of it's own universe, and not a bigger companies. It was easier to create something that felt like your own.
Rant aside, like I said, it's nice to see support from other gaming communities. -
Ha! I've always loved the devs showing up like that. I've never seen that kind of interaction with a community before in any online game. Paragon definitely IS and hopefully will continue to be a great team.
-
Quote:Exactly. We'd have to be very careful about making changes form the current style of combat - it's one of the key elements that's often brought up when players say what they like best about CoH.
The design goal of any spirritual successor would have to be "CoH, but even better".
For me, I absolutely love the gameplay of CoH. If there was any kind of spiritual successor, I'd want the same general kind of combat. I've had complaints about the graphics over the years, and complaints about the story, zones, etc. But combat is never really one of those. There's a lot of AT's and a lot of playstyles, so it's hard to feel bored with all of them at once.
The playstyle/powers just make you feel heroic. IMO. -
I'm not going to bad-mouth a game or another development team just because the parent company did something bad. ArenaNet doesn't have anything to do with what happened to Paragon Studios. It's like EA - a lot of people on the Internet don't really care for them, but at the same time, they own a lot of companies and chances are you've played or still play one of their many titles.
Granted, I don't feel inclined to check out Guild Wars 2 anytime in the near future, but that's because I learned my lesson from SWTOR. Jumping into any online game at the beginning seems to be a bit risky these days. I'd prefer to wait for the bugs to be ironed out.
And with NCSoft apparently having money problems, I think investing into ANY of their games right now would be a bit unwise, regardless of how you feel about them. Granted, Guild Wars 2 doesn't have the monthly fee, but I still don't have that much faith in things staying stable/online in the near future. -
Agh, this is just like that week following the end of Mass Effect 3. It hit me hard enough that it threw off everything. I kept bouncing between 'did that really just happen' and 'it can't end like this' to cautious optimism that things would change. Not entirely the same as what's going on here, but similar enough.
I'm hoping things end up working out in everyone's favor. The last thing I want is for the game to go away. I've been playing it for years, and it's become a part of my life.
As I've said in the game - hope for the best, prepare for the worst. -
It was a pleasure seeing you herd the entirety of Monster Island. Wish I could've stayed to see how it ended.
-
I'm going to miss teaming with you all. It was always a fun experience.

Zwillinger, man, I'm going to miss your videos and your hats. It was always a pleasure to read your posts/watch the videos you were moderating.
Wish you the best on future projects.
