... that looks like something Jeremy Clarkson would do if he were given the okay to design a new batmobile.
He'd take a ford transit body, put it on a Jaguard XJ220, then add on lots of fiddly bits and fins, then call it a day. -
it's a Norton commercial.
That's an automatic Epic Fail no matter that the competition was. -
Quote:Correct. So are you saying *any* set with a 6.25% +recharge counts towards the only-5-sets rule?
Yep.Quote:So if I want more +recharge on this toon I have to get it with sets that have 5% or 3.75%, or something else?
I wouldn't exactly call 5 of any 1 IO buff arcane or baffling, especially given that there is pretty much only one exception to the rule.Quote:That's a lot more arcane and baffling than I thought
Remember, you can only save 10 enhancements from any one respec.Quote:I've never been able to afford decent sets before, so I haven't really understood how IO set bonuses worked. Bummer. Two nearly complete sets of IOs that are useless to me. I hope I can salvage them with a respec and sell them for something... -
Quote:Fun time.Ok, the only thing left on my comp from Nvidia is simply called NVIDIA drivers. It asks me about removing Nvidia components, and if I want to remove all drivers including display, or except display.
Okay, before you do anything else, make sure you have the NFORCE drivers for your motherboard.
If you aren't sure what Nforce platform you have, tools like CPUZ will tell you: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html -
Quote:I would through the steps from before. Check to make sure the Nvidia software is uninstalled. Run Driver Sweeper.Ok, ok. A setback, but not world ending. So, what's the next step? Re install my old driver, or try to re install the new version?
BTW, thank you SO much!
Then reboot and install the updated driver. -
Quote:probably not.Oh CRAAP!
I uninstalled, tried to install it and it said to restart....
Am I screwed?
The reason why you want to run driver sweeper before restarting is because Microsoft Windows does not automatically delete all stored dll files. So if you have a corrupted file or an older file still in use, Microsoft Windows can, and normally will, automatically reinstall from the existing driver files.
Which basically means you uninstall the drivers for nothing. -
... part of me is now trying to fit Leviathan into that Blue Oyster Cult Song...
Need something to call it that would fit.... -
that is one step I would advise you to take, yes.
The steps you need take right now are:
Run the Nvidia un-installer from Add / Remove Programs or Programs and Features depending on your version of Windows.
After un-installing the drivers, do NOT reboot.
Run the Driver Sweeper Utility: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
After it has removed all existing Nvidia files, THEN reboot.
Then install the updated drivers. -
for starters, have you dropped back to the Nvidia drivers that seemed to have been working before?

Quote:IO buffs only work in sets of 5.lvl 50 Crab Spider.
I have been slotting for +rech, with 3 sets of Positron's Blast in my AOEs, 2 sets of Decimation in my ranged attacks and 2 sets of Expedient Reinforcement in my pets. So far.
The +Rech on that should be 43.75%, plus Mental Training 20% should total at 63.75%, but all I see on my Combat Attributes is 55%. What's going on here - should I ignore it and slot more +Recharge sets, or have I hit a wall?
Posi, Decimentation, and Expedient all offer recharges of 6.25%, so only the first 5 enhancement sets provide a buff.
The only exception to the no more than 5 is the 7.5% recharge. The 7.5% recharge from the Luck of the Gambler proc and the 7.5% IO set buffs are not the same buffs.
So you can have 5 LoTG procs and 5 Kinectic Crashes and receive full recharge benefits from both. -

Quote:yes / no / not reallyAnd for the thread, doesn't just people search for keywords to find threads? I just searched for the error message and found this thread, that's why I figured it made most sense to just continue on it
This thread was about an Intel graphics problems. Solutions for Intel graphics probably are not going to work for solutions on Nvidia graphics.
... okay. When you say separate, do you mean asQuote:I installed a separate windows 7 installation on 64 bit. The 32 bit installation is still there ... so no old drivers should affect anything, should they?
on a completely different physical hard-drive?
on the same physical hard-drive and different Windows System folders?
on the same physical hard-drive but different partitions?
O -
... Drugfree. You really need to create a new thread for this, especially if you have a graphics card other than Intel. Otherwise the thread gets confusing to anybody searching for an issue with their graphics card.
Anyways, if you cross-graded 32bit for 64bit, the drivers are not compatible.
Chances are the 64bit version is still holding registry entries or file placements from the 32bit compiles.
Go run driver-sweeper, then install the Nvidia driver

Did you remember to pack the Ice Cweam? -
Actually, my comment on that system wasn't Win7 certified or Aero certified was driven by the usage of the GF 6150, not by the AII.

Quote:short version, I'd wait for RadeonHD 6900 series. So what has everyone been hearing about this new card? Any try it out with COH yet? I'm looking at getting a brand new system this card has been suggested to me to get.
What I've been hearing is that investors are continuing to panic over Nvidia's corporate actions. None of Nvidia's high-end cards are profitable, and Nvidia still hasn't issued an answer to the now low end market RadeonHD 5770... the segment of the market that moves the most amount of cards, and thus drives the largest profits.
The only reason to buy a GTX 580, and I mean the ONLY reason to buy it, is that you want the Nvidia badge. That's it. There's no other reason to get one.
Thing is, buying one of the GTX 580's on the street will set you back around $500: http://www.pricewatch.com/search?q=GTX+580
AMD's upcoming 6970 will reportedly be launching at a $400 price-point. The big worry for fans of green is that AMD's much cheaper card, on paper, outruns the GTX 580. Now, on-paper and in theory doesn't always translate to real world performance. Case in point, GTS 250. On paper it drastically outpowers RadeonHD 4850. In real games... it doesn't.
Now, given that Nvidia's set the GTX 580 pricing pretty much in Ludicrous-ville, AMD might launch their next highest end card with a higher price and sustain their own inflated pricing like they did with the HD 5000 series cards. It's also expected that AMD won't rush the 6900 series to market. Right now there's no need to kick a product out the door just to get a product out the door. So you'll actually probably have a shot at laying hands on one.
Now, is the GTX 580 as much of a rip-off as the GTX 480 and 470?
Well, in the absence of a direct competitor card from AMD, determining whether or not it's a complete rip-off would be unfair. If you want the absolute amount of maximum rendering power right now, today, then sure, the GTX 580 is your card of choice.
I just have to ask two questions: If you have $500 to begin with to spend on just a graphics card alone...
is your business hiring?
do they need another technician? -

Question: what makes you so sure that NCSoft Marketing didn't provide the Post with questions that NCSoft / Paragon Studios wanted to answer or wanted to address?
-
Quote:Not really when you consider something that the Post didn't address, AMD is using CoH to show off their Fusion products.Translation: We're pushing the existing engine as far as it can go and making no major graphical upgrades. That's a disappointment....
Something that a lot of players simply gloss over, either deliberately out of willful ignorance, or just out of not having realized it, is that CoH is one of the few MMO's that will still scale back to hardware users could have had at it's launch. CoH remains one of the few updated MMO's that will run relatively well on Intel Integrated Graphics Accelerators. Competitors, such as those cited by the Post, don't scale.
So no, learning that the developers will continue to develop and revamp the existing engine is not a disappointment by any measure or standard.
Okay, first thing, this topic has been done to death. Quit spreading the F.U.D. I'm going to go over this just one more time.Quote:The healthy cynic in me says that Chris (along with eight others) being gone, and Matt 'possibly' being moved to other projects, does little to raise the prospects of a CoH #2.- A: Most of the employees dismissed were temps brought into complete Going Rogue.

Using C.Bruce as evidence for Doom is pretty much like using a Weed Whacker to cut down an Oak tree. Everybody who walks by is going to stop and stare in awe at the event, and you won't actually accomplish anything.
Two words for you: Shadow ShardQuote:*waves buh bye to posi*
hope ya learned in your next project not to wait 6 years for game end content.
Just because you don't like the existing end-game content is no reason for you to say that there isn't any.
Yeah, doesn't jibe with what I've heard either. Now if Mr. Miller and Mr. Fish were suddenly stuffed into a back-room, then I might be thinking something is going on. As far as I know, neither has gone complete black-ops.Quote:As to the rumor of Positron being shuffled around that the Post referred to, that's not a rumor I myself have heard up till now. But I have four separate reasons to doubt it, none of which I could articulate.
I think many of the Doom-sayers don't really understand just how committed NCSoft is to the CoH franchise. -
Okay. I haven't read the thread itself, just responding to the original post, so if this stuff has already been addressed and I'm just repeating it, yeah, sorry.
Okay. Big problem here. The buff archtypes have deliberate minimal resistances and protections against mez effects in the game. Outside of the anti-mez fields in the Sonic Resonance and Force Field power sets, only Controllers get any mez-protection with Indomitable Will. Even then, IW is a level 41 Epic Power, and you'd need to be pretty much at hard recharge cap for it to be perma.
So, your basic request here, isn't one you are ever going to fill.
Requisite link to damage caps: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Damage_Cap#DamageQuote:I really enjoy getting the defender powers quicker but afraid I will find myself at 50 wondering why I didn't go with another AT. With the cap at 400 it seems a bit of a waste to me.
While Corruptors do get 100% more damage boost than controllers or defenders, raw damage is only one factor. The majority of a corruptors damage comes late in the HP bar of an opponent when scourge kicks in and they start doing double damage.
Controllers, by comparison, get double damage as long as any mez effect is applied to an opponent.
Defenders get a Damage buff when they are solo or with up to two team-mates, and have stronger buff / debuffs.
Then there's the matter of the power sets themselves.
Case in point, Archery. Archery is largely made up of a large number of single strike shots, and only has two powers that benefit from scourges double damage on damage over time: blazing arrow and rain of arrows. While all attacks have a chance for double damages, that overall damage becomes limited.
So, does the higher potential damage cap on a corrupter off-set the stronger buffs / debuffs of a Defender? Does it offset the control offered by a controller?
That is up to any particular player to decide for themselves. There is no hard only one way to go answer. Each archtype has it's own strengths and weaknesses.
Okay. First lesson in Kinetics 101: Your buffs are not for you.Quote:Right now I am doing FS then pretty much face plant.
Fulcrum Shift, as a power, is designed for your team-mates to take advantage of. If you are getting into Melee range on a regular basis, you need to back up.
Control Sets with good alpha mitigation capabilities are often used as platforms to drive players buffing themselves with FS. One of the reasons the Fire / Kinectics Controller rose in popularity as a farming solution is that fire control offers both a perception debuff in smoke, and a stun debuff in Flashfire. Those particular debuffs can give Fire / Kins time to get into melee range and leverage fulcrum shift for themselves.
Okay. Defense is meaningless.Quote:even with 45/S/L with my Fire/Kin corruptor.
No really. There are a couple basic problems with obsessing after defense. Your archtype, the corruptor archtype, has no defense debuff resistance. This means that it's only going to take one single attack landing with a defense debuff, and you no longer have any defense.
The larger the mob that you enounter, the more chances the enemy has to penetrate your defenses, and the more likely you will be going splat.
Yeah, here's the thing. Many mez attacks, such as sleep or hold, are not delivered through smashing / lethal damage attacks. The mez attack most often coupled with smashing / lethal / energy attacks is stun. You are getting hit by enemies with attacks you have no protection against.Quote:Its the mez that is killing me most of the time and I never seem to have enough Break Frees.
Short version. No.Quote:Just wonder if maybe there is another AT out there that may be better suited for this role.
To put it bluntly, what you are trying to do, the developers don't want you to do. It's known as blapping, named after players who played blasters like scrappers trying to take advantage of the old blaster defiance.
In order for what you want to work as you want it to work, you pretty much have to cherry pick which enemies you fight, making sure to only take on opponents with smashing or lethal damages and no mez effects.
Now, if you are dead set on using a ranged archtype in a non-ranged combat situation, your best bet is going to be controllers, and from what it sounds like you want, you might as well go ahead and make the flavor of the it's going to get nerfed again and ruin it for everybody else Fire / Kin. -
okay. thing is with a trial account is that you'll only hit level 14. This really limits the ability to be versatile.
I'd go with Julius's suggestion for a Rad / Sonic defender. You can have a heal, defense debuff, to-hit debuff, damage debuff, resistance debuff, regeneration debuff, resurrection power, and accelerate metabolism from the rad side. Shriek, howl, and shockwave on the sonic side. Then room for a travel power unlocker like hasten, combat jumping, recall friend, or hover. That leaves just 14 for the travel power itself. -
Quote:Okay. Two things you have to consider here.I had to google 100 fold; as my math is not as good as yours but are you saying a tanker is 1,267,650,600,228,229,401,496,703,205,376 tougher than a scrapper?
No I have not seen the test with regards to RWZ.
I have seen post where a scrapper has been able to tank multiple AVs
"Tankers shine on hard content when you lack support. Simple."
That is why I was asking about issue 19. I would love to laugh at a non Tank class trying to fill my role instead of laughing at myself.
I also saw a post where a corruptor Fire/traps tanked three AVs.
Is it only your opinion that the tanker calls the shot or that factual information.
I am not trying to be rude I am only trying to get the facts so that in my weak little mind I can justify what I am doing.- The developers do not balance encounters against Invention Origin Buffs.
- The developers balance encounters against Single Origin Enhancements and ED caps.
Now, if any one of these archtypes were able to perform these actions on a build using Single Origin enhancements, then the developers would take notice and you'd see some changes on the way for any particular avatar.
The Alpha Slot system turns the concept of empowering your character on it's head. Unlike IO buffs, Alpha Slot buffs work on a per-power basis, rather than a base-stats basis. This in turn means that powers that players who have already have capped any specific effect into ED limits will see greater returns through the Incarnate system on those powers.
On paper, yes, the developers are already creating situations where only tanks and maybe brutes have a chance at surviving. Case in point would be the Tin Mage TF where Bobcat Vengeanced and promptly sliced up a Stone Tank as if it were a Fire Aura. In some of the potential combat situations, only tanks or brutes at attribute caps can survive any particular enemies onslaught. Given the performance of Bobcat is is not unreasonable to assume that the developers could, and would, create a situation where only a Tanker at attribute caps could survive an assault.
The general player-held theory is that by the time the incarnate system is finished, what are the obsessions of today, might not be as important. Soft-capping defense might not be particularly important to a defensive melee avatar if an incarnate effect allows them to add a to-hit debuff to all melee attacks.
Since we don't know the full scope of what the incarnate system will ultimately offer as a playable experience, making claims about the death of any one particular archtype is um... well... short cited.
Something else to consider is that the developers have shown flexibility in rethinking old designs, such as the Defender's Negligence and the Tanker's Gauntlet. If a substantial amount of the player base gets to a point where their avatar can do something that is not within the design scope of that avatar, we'll likely see more changes from Castle and Synapse. -
Quote:Okay. Here's the basic problem Blueruckus. What's the point of this? Really? Helpful people like Leandro were able to provide constructive input to my questions yet you decide to post this type of sarcastic reply for no apparent reason.
It took more effort to respond in that manner then to just think 'That guy's an idiot. Next.' and ignore the post.
Many of us responding have been through several beta tests in the past. We've also learned to identify patterns in posts that appear on the forums by basic wording, timing, or tone of the post itself.
This is basically a red-light sentence. Forum discussions over content may or may not be useful or accurate since many players, exampling myself, tend to use feedback posts to talk about changes we would implement, why we would implement those changes, and perhaps how we would go about implementing those changes.Quote:Disclaimer: I have not played any of the I19 content, but have only read about it through the forum discussions.
This can create confusing threads where players run with ideas or statements by other players that were ideas or conjecture, then treating those ideas or conjectures as lore-fact. A good case in point, the popular belief that incarnates were supposed to be a part of the retail Going Rogue release, a belief that is not supported by the time-line of Going Rogue's public notices of development, nor by developer statements.
It is my opinion that the only way Feedback or discussion threads can be productive is if everybody involved is on a level playing field. In the case of new content like the Incarnate Content, that means having at least made attempts at the Task Forces.
I'm quoting this to help make the point that a useful discussion is only really possible if the content has been experienced.Quote:From my understanding, if you do not have the Alpha Slot slotted on the new "Incarnate TFs" you will be fighting at -4 levels. Is this essentially the main challenge behind the TF?
As a spoiler note here: If you are waiting for the release, don't read the following
The default setting for the two Incarnate Taskforces is Plus 4 Levels.
This means that players without the incarnate slot will be fighting at minus 8 levels to the enemy targets.
