But can hold my own if I need to solo, I want a variety of roles, when I tried before I played a dark/dark corrupter the gameplay was fun but could not get into the netherworld look, it was cool but dark and ugly at the same time im not into the evil look hehe.

Anyways im opened to any suggestions just fyi I mostly like ranged. Even archtypes with allot of oh crap buttons is fun to.

I find masterminds to be the most versatile, but you really need some complicated binds to play them to the fullest. I have a link to an old version of some awesome binds, not sure if the link is even good anymore, though...

A Dark/Dark corrupter is very versatile, and if the only thing you didn't like was the look, there is good news! You can change the colors of the powers now! So go, go make a raver Dark/Dark and enjoy the party!

Dark/Dark Corruptors are definitely versatile, though I prefer Fire/Dark myself due to the significantly higher damage. You can tint Dark powers all sorts of colors now, though they will always be darker hues rather than really bright. You can get some pretty light pinks or greens, and you can do a lightish gray effect that makes them look like smoke or fog. You could make a Fire/Dark that had a cool "flame and smoke" theme, for instance.

Controllers are always handy on groups and can be surprisingly fun solo if you pick the right sets. Plant or Fire tend to have more damage, and you can never go wrong with /Rad on any setting, or /Storm if you know what you are doing (ie, don't blow stuff around when melee characters are trying to punch it). My favorite Controller is Plant/Storm, both for solo and for teams, and the good news is that Plant Control can easily negate knockback so you can safely use things like Tornado or Lightning Storm on teams. Or you can skip the immobilizes and use KB as mitigation. Plant/Rad or Fire/Rad would be a bit more team friendly though, since Rad is about the best debuff set around.

I'm a huge fan of the Dominator archetype. You bring Damage (Melee, Range, and AoE) and Control (hard, soft, and, depending on primary, debuffs). Being quite effective at both Melee, Range and AoE damage makes game play with this archetype really fun. Domination also grants this class full mez protecion, which is something that other range and control archetypes lack (it can also be made permanent).

One of the most versatile characters of all would be a Rad/Sonic Defender or a Sonic/Rad Corrupter. This combination has buffs, debuffs, ranged damage, AoE hard control, single target hard control, and healing.

okay. thing is with a trial account is that you'll only hit level 14. This really limits the ability to be versatile.

I'd go with Julius's suggestion for a Rad / Sonic defender. You can have a heal, defense debuff, to-hit debuff, damage debuff, resistance debuff, regeneration debuff, resurrection power, and accelerate metabolism from the rad side. Shriek, howl, and shockwave on the sonic side. Then room for a travel power unlocker like hasten, combat jumping, recall friend, or hover. That leaves just 14 for the travel power itself.

Again thanks for the replies I wont be on the free trial to long already impressed with going rogue expansion, been playing around with dual pistols/traps for fun. Anyways I should mention I am huge on the rp aspect I tried perfect synrergies before like my ill/rad controller from long ago and never could come up with a good background for it, and in the end got bored anyways.

Thats great about the color changing I noticed when I created a char little dissapointed you cannot change your bullets to lasters though, I may end up reviving my dark/dark defender but since I can be a corrupted now I think I will just play a new one and so I can enjoy the new content of course.

Plant/storm sounds very interesting, I could make that work with rp to some kind of druid but im sure everyone else and there kids have made that one hmmm.

Anyways thanks again everyone.

After a bit of editing for brevity... you can sort of change your bullet trail colors. By picking up swap ammo, your bullet trails from attacks change from that blah as hell gray tone to blue for cryo ammo (the crappy one), green for toxic ammo (pretty good), or orange for incendiary ammo (the good one). Blue/cryo ammo is visually the best swap for "laser" rounds, even if the debuff is pretty useless in most play situations.

All that's in my opinion, of course.

You lost me, it wont let me change the colors at all.

Riley was being unclear; you can't actually change the colors of the attacks for Dual Pistols. But when you pick up the Swap Ammo power, you get the ability to change your ammo type, and the different ammo types have different effects when you use them, so Cryo has some fog around the bullet, Toxic has a toxic vapor, Incendiary has fire. Going by the assumption that the Cryo rounds look like lasers (and I don't think they do), you could just use those all the time, despite the fact that they have the worst secondary effect of all the ammo types.

I will point out that a few of the selectable pistols have laser sights, which is better than nothing.

Yea some of them wont change colors though,

Anyways I think I want a damage/support kind of versatile character so right now my options is dark something, or maybe rad/rad? Not sure how that plays out, dark/rad seems a little odd I am opened to suggestions.

Also I noticed someone said fire/dark is good but just keep in mind I want something fun from start to end, no in between or waiting untl level 30 to shine, I want to start having fun atleast within the first 10 levels, thanks.

Fire/Dark is just that with damage, debuffs, and heals. You get a lot of good powers early on and you only keep improving.

Dark/Dark gives a heal, lots of debuffs and some control, but is relatively light on damage. Fire/Dark, on the other hand, keeps all the nice Dark Miasma powers but trades the extra to-hit debuffs and control powers from Dark Blast for hard hitting attacks. It starts off a lot stronger offensively and continues to do good damage as you level, and still has enough debuffs and utility to add a lot to a team. Dark/Dark is basically a very debuff heavy support build, while Fire/Dark is a balanced build that combines support with significant damage output.

I must echo that Fire/Dark corruptors are great stuff out of the box. You can take a nice dark heal, a single target fire attack, tar patch (elegant, simple speed and resistance debuff), a targetted AoE that only gets better with slotting and rain of fire by level 6. That's deadly, that's effective and it's good support. You never look back from that core of an attack sequence. (I like to pull with twilight grasp, the dark heal, because it also debuffs targets ) Color customization can give it whatever theme you are looking for.
