Unless there's something specific you want with IOs (+recovery, +HP, +regen etc), then a generic build on demand seems like a pointless exercise.

I can knock one up if you like, providing I know what you (OP + gec72) are actually aiming for.
You're probably right, I'm sure this topic has probably been covered thoroughly before. I'll start treating this as an archive rather than a discussion board. Thanks.
  2. I was just starting to mess around with a plan for one in Mids', too. I have one that's been sitting in the low teens for years, but dusted off to play with my son's Peacebringer. Would love to see a few builds.
  3. I don't know if this has already been brought up, but:

Issue 15 forums appear to be sorted by default alphabetically by thread title. Changing this to be sorted by Last Post might be good for consistency.

True, I could start my own team. In-game though I'm not really the leader type (in four years I've probably started only a handful of teams, and those have been for GM/events) nor do I really like recruiting. I'd be worried that I wasn't doing a good job with the star. Much more comfortable as a follower or doing my own thing.

I'd consider my Emp/Psi both hard AND slow to solo.

This is what might typically happen when I log on my Emp:

    1. I log on, set my flag to "looking for team", do some standard toon maintenance (selling, marketing).

    a. I get invited to a team. Yay!

    b. I don't get invited to a team. I don't really have any up-to-date contacts, so I do a paper mission (or a level-independent mission like from Montague). I enter the paper mission, and encounter a spawn of CoT. Take care of them in what seems like way too long of a battle. Next spawn - 2 +1 thorn casters and a +1 Behemoth lt. I get pwned. I think to myself "Self - that would have been a trivial spawn given one of your blasters, controllers, scrappers, your mastermind, maybe your corruptor. Eh, forget this - time to play one of those."

    ice/mental ?

I do - took mine to 50 solo. Probably not *quite* as fun as my Fire/Fire, but not bad. Here's my build, which I completed except for the LoTG (maybe an Obliteration, can't remember).

    Level 1: Sprint -- Empty(A)
    Level 2: Rest -- Empty(A)
    Level 1: Defiance

Notes on a couple of choices:

World of Confusion - I like this power, but it's not for everybody. I find it to be a cheap toggle that does decent mitigation. Foes don't really have time to attack each other, but they'll at least pause from attacking you for a bit.

Scare - Don't really use this much, but I like the cheap Glimpse of the Abyss set.

Flash Freeze - don't really use this either, but again, cheap bonuses.

I didn't slot Freeze Ray/Bitter Freeze Ray much; the latter I didn't end up using a whole lot, and the former I could have maybe slotted more, but did ok w/o doing so.

Drain Psyche - yes, you can substitute this for the Fitness pool, especially if you have decent recharge.
  7. Wow, this is fantastic - I had no idea there was a plugin that could do this. Definitely going to be playing around with this to modify styles for my own use - thanks Zombie.
  8. I think she's trying to say that in the early levels Stamina may seem like it's a necessity, but once you get more slots and access to SO/IO you can slot for END in a way that makes Stamina non-essential.

I think Stamina can be worked around if you use Domination regularly to refill the bar, but I was sucking wind quite a bit in the early levels and opted to take the Fitness pool. In my case I had room for it w/o sacrificing other powers/pools I wanted to take.

Don't want to force people into unwanted, unexpected missions, after all. That way not only are you able to go look for random missions, but you also have a chance to get a random mission from just beating up a bunch of crooks for no specific reason.
Maybe treat the clues like Recipes - you can store a certain number of them, or delete them if you want to make room for more.
  11. Well, I just got done facing a Longbow Officer in freeing Tina Raymond. Missed on Seeds in the first encounter, and didn't react quickly enough to survive it (yep...Seeds is important). Came back - built up Domination on the run from the hosp - and took care of the boss. Hasten helped in stacking Strangle on her once she took care of anyone around her.

Spirit Tree I like having handy as insurance if I think things might go badly (should have dropped it preemptively in the above battle...), or in EB fights. It won't prevent burst damage, it'll be situational, but it'll be a nice tool to have (some regen between lucky hits that get through purple insps ).

Entangle...this is going to sound strange, but I'd say at this point I use it more than I do Strangler. Why? Because I can quickly rotate through Thorny Darts, Impale, and Entangle (Skewer too if I'm in range) without holding one of my confused mobs. If Seeds misses on someone, then I'll apply Strangler to them specifically.

    • Seeds at L12? You can take it at L8, and you should.
    • Spirit Tree is going to be at it's best in the early game. If you must take it, then you're better off doing so well before L20.
    • Vines isn't great, but it makes a good backup for when Seeds doesn't work (particularly as you start to hit Longbow Officers in the late 20s and 30s).
I'll try and post a build a bit later on.
The theory on my build is that I would try to keep mobs bogged down with immobs, then hit them with things like Creepers, Thorn Trops, and later Water Spout. After using Seeds, of course.

As for the order of taking powers early...I suppose I could have done the early levels differently, if I moved up Skewer to 2, Seeds to 8, and moved back Roots or Entangle to 12. I was focusing on Immob/range powers first though I guess, and honestly the time difference between levels 8 and 12 isn't really that much, so I didn't obsess over the order.

Similarly with Spirit Tree, I didn't feel I necessarily needed it at the time. Pushing back Seeds pushed back Spirit Tree to fit in the travel power and the fitness pool.

As for Vines...I'm not big on AoE holds. I rarely used Total Domination on my Mind controller, and the same goes for GDF on my Grav troller. They were handy for Bosses and panic situations, sure. Having Seeds hit will certainly be important. If it doesn't, I'm going to have to do my best to lockdown or distract problem mobs/bosses (and I'll need an alternate plan vs Nemesis, etc.). Having Domination up is going to be a key there.
  13. Well, there are a few ways you can make a Fire/Fire. I skipped Combustion and Consume, took and slotted Rain of Fire, Hot Feet and Blazing Bolt, and didn't slot FSC (not fully anyway). I soloed to 50 fine. Might not be for everyone though.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=125895
  14. Here's my planned build. I can't guarantee it's especially thrifty, but it doesn't have any Numina/LoTG/Miracles in there either, and was planned with a good bit of recharge that may no longer be needed.

Playstyle might be a little different - basically a solo approach which treats Seeds as the main "hold". Seeds -> Roots -> Trops, with the single-target attacks mixed in and Creepers out when up. I still have SOs in my build, but it's working fine so far (just hit Level 30).

I'm also not 100% sure on the slotting for Fling Thorns (especially in relation to Roots). I suppose it has more damage than Roots, but I like the range that Roots has (and of course the immob). But then I might find myself in melee a lot more once I get Ripper and Thorn Barrage.

  15. I took it on my Plant/Thorns at 28 (despite Talen warning not to) and I haven't hated it.

It may not be for everyone, sure. But I had fun with it taking on some hazard-sized groups in Sharkhead. Seeds of Confusion -> Roots -> Thorntrops -> Carrion Creepers can make a nice little dent. I'm also not above rooting mobs, throwing thorntrops, then running around a corner like a little girl, either.

Heh - I'm STILL slow then; my Merc/Poison just dinged 50 yesterday, and it took him 210 hours. And I felt like he was really fast.

Still felt like a nice accomplishment though. I did it myself (I teamed twice I think - once to help a *brute* with his patron and once to help a small team out with Aurora Borealis). In the last stretch yesterday I defeated four Vindicators, Mynx another time, Dr Aeon, Synapse three times (since when does he actually BLUR??). I wasn't undefeated, but it was challenging and I felt some satisfaction at the end of the fights.

After that I got on a team with my lvl 40 Emp/Psi, who has been bogged down forever (toon's been around 4+ years). Joined an AE team that was fighting huge boss spawns. Gained about a level and a half in what, 45 minutes, if that? I was buffing and healing just as I usually would (well, much more buffing than healing), but it felt empty. I mean, I won't return the XP, but I was kinda glad when I got mapserved as it gave me a nice smooth exit.

edit: I will say though that the AE team I was on had some players on it that have been around longer than I have, and knew what they were doing. Probably would have steamrolled regardless with Emp buffs, Fulcrum Shift, creeper patches, etc. Get a tank that is particularly suited to the incoming damage though, and you have less risk than you otherwise might.

I didn't have a huge problem with mine. I had Envenom to help with resistances and to stack -DEF with the Mercs, Assault and Tactics to further help with ToHit and DAM, and NT Breath, Paralytic Poison, Web Envelope and Web Cocoon to add to overall slow/immob/hold. I thought things overall meshed quite nicely, though I've not really played the other sets to compare.
  18. Spec Ops have Tear Gas???

I didn't have any really big issues with Mercs, though I'll agree that the Medic is a bit of a doofus. And I wish they all were wearing some fire-resistant suits. Oh, and that Serum really isn't worth all that much. When I want to use it is in an EB fight; if I do use it it's on the Commando, and either he dies anyway or he becomes worthless halfway through the fight. So I usually skip it.

I don't think I have any, but I will still buy the game - under the assumption that there will be things there for characters from both sides to do even if they aren't switching, and because I'm guessing you'll be able to create new players in Praetoria.

Ack. I just failed one of Pither's last missions because I couldn't find the last couple Council in a defeat-all. That was really annoying.

Back in the days before the AV->EB scaling, I had to face the Envoy of Shadows with my BS/Regen. I'd get him down, only to consistently use Healing Flames to get back up again. I think it was over two real-time years before I ever spoke to Cadao Kestrel again.

    * Kadabra Kill gave my Merc/Poison fits, dropped him the second time I faced him.

    * The mission where Black Scorpion has you down 4 Portal Corp portals. Like the CoT portals, these summon...but they summon Longbow. After the first summoned a mess of Longbow including a couple Flamethrowers and a boss...yeah, so much for trying that. If one portal was going to be that bad, I wasn't facing FOUR.

    * Pumpkinhead Goaltender (Prevent 30 Fir Bolg from Escaping). On any character.

    * Calystix the Shaper.

Thanks; I have talked to Pither.

The badge isn't really a big deal, not being needed for an accolade and me not being a major badge hound. It was just very irritating beating the bosses, setting the bomb, and then realizing that I wasn't done. And then failing on what seems to amount to a technicality. Which I suppose is part of the point of the Pither missions...it's just - bah. I don't like failing.
  23. Defeat Ascendant Archon, check.
    Defeat Black XIII, check.
    Plant bomb, check.

Find remaining Council....looking...looking...ok still have 10:00.

Hrm, where are they? Checked all the rooms twice, time to check again.

    5:00. Uh-oh, cutting it close.

1:00 no sign. Where the heck?

0:00. 10:00 of frantic searching and still a Council hiding...somewhere. FAIL.

    *sigh* Pretty frustrating.
