Well, I updated my drivers and have been playing the game for the last couple of hours (on and off). And I just crashed... so it didn't fix it =/
But I will give Texas' suggestions a go. -
Quote:Yes, that is the original resolution. I'm running the game in windowed mode. It -might- happen because of overheating... but, somteimes the crash happens immediately... I mean before I even get on my first toon after the comp's been off all night. It's incredibly random...I saw that too, Mephisto, but the CoHHelper reports Vista SP2.
@Electric - What's the native resolution of that monitor and what resolution do you game at? If it's high (1920x1080) have you tried lowering it in game? I'm kind of leaning towards overheating and lowering the resolution may reduce some of the stress (heat) the card suffers.
-Wolf muses -
I'm crashing... a lot. The message that pops up in the bottom-right of the screen reads "Display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has successfully recovered." Sometimes this happens right after I enter the game for the first time in a day, other times it waits until I've been playing for hours on end. Sometimes the crashes happen within moments of each other, before I've even loaded back in. Other times it will happen once and then wait hours before happening again. It's INCREDIBLY random. The only constant I've noticed is that crashes dramatically increased in frequency when I was attempting to do a RWZ mothership raid (so much that I've tried them twice and have been unable to finish). I'm using an ATI set as close to Billz's suggestion as possible both in-game and in the catalyst center. Can anyone shed light on this? Everyone I've asked in-game or otherwise have not been helpful =[
Any suggestions?

I slot Parry (DA's clone in Broad Sword) with three damage, one accuracy and one defense buff. But I'm running Focused Accuracy and have set bonuses that give some nice +acc. If you leave out the defense buff, DA is only boosting you 15% to melee and lethal per application. So if you're not running a defense-heavy set, you'll probably want that little bit of extra def so you're softcapping yourself with two applications. Of course you won't be able to have two applications ALWAYS, so more defense from just one is always beneficial (for example, when absorbing an alpha). Plus, more defense will help you overcome any defense debuffs you run across (I'm looking at you and your freakin' katana, Chimera!).

PvE and PvP are not the same thing, by any means. Due to the different mechanics of PvP, some sets are MUCH different. Defense sets are more or less gimp becuase of everyone's insanely high to-hit and accuracy. Willpower is nothing more than a game of retoggling RttC and a high-end Regen build is nigh unbeatable. Bottom line is, almost all sets perform differently PvP than PvE. So the answer to your question, yes and no. It is a good test of your build in PvP, but means little for your PvE status.

So I just got off a Respec TF, now I need to well... Respec! My Blaster is Fire Blast/Ice Manipulation, and for concept, I'd like to go with Electrical Mastery. So can anyone get me a build or even some general suggestions for either set? I'm really not too pro at Blasting (as much as I am at Scrapping, at least). Any help at all is greatly appreciated, thanks! I would like to get some defense going (probably not softcap, but up there), so I was thinking I should include some leadership/Fighting powers? I don't know... suggestions would be awesome.
Here is my current build, for reference:
(Oh, I DO want to get rid of TP)

Now that my Broad Sword/Willpower Scrapper has solo'd an AV and my Willpower/Super Strength Tanker is closing in on the HP cap, I decided, or rather discovered, that I love Willpower. I figured "so why not go redside?" As such, I'm going to get a Brute and Stalker, both /WP, to 50 and then make them into something. However... I'm a little confused as to how the Stalker and Brute versions compare to the Tanker and Scrapper versions. Rather than make a few separate posts in the AT-specific forums, I decided to ask my questions here:
On paper, the Scrapper and Brute WPs are identical (I believe). However, the Brute comes with higher base HP and a much higher cap than a Scrapper. Should I be going for capped HP (like one goes for on a WP tank) on the Brute WP (if reaching the cap is even possible)? Or should I focus on Regen and defense? I'm going with Fire/WP.
The Stalker version of WP is quite different than the other three... No RttC, no QR... Recon, etc... Where do I even begin with the Stalker version? I'd imagine I'd want to shoot for the HP Cap (which won't be hard to reach). But where do I go from there? Regen isn't as impressive, since Stalkers don't get RttC... so I'm confused. I plan on going Nin/WP
I know this is multiple questions rolled into one... But some general ideas as to what Brute WP and Stalker WP players should shoot for would be great. -
-
I soloed my first AV! No temps, no inspirations, just me and my powers =]
The toon I did it with was the BS/WP Scrapper I've asked so many questions about.
The AV was Bobcat, here's a link to the screenie if you can see it well enough:
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=13z8qom&s=3
Thanks Scrapper forums, y'all helped A LOT =] -
Fitness is still great, even QR can run you dry of endurance. And Health only adds to your Regen, which is great. The Fighting pool is a definite yes. Tough will make you less squishy and Weave will let you pile on the defense. When you start IOing, Weave will be essential. Is it necessary? No, but it helps a GREAT amount.
-
This looks pretty awesome. I can now team with my friends' and brother's alts with whatever toon I choose. Getting my friends hooked on this game just got that much easier =]
What's even BETTER, it cuts down on AE and normal farming. Hell, it cuts down on the appeal of AE teaming in general. One thing that makes AE farming so attractive is the ability to not worry about your level. Now that this applies to the entire game, maybe we can all move back into normal content? Now it's just time to deal with those pesky boss farms!
*Edit* I just read Posi's last bit about increasing low-leveling speeds. Okay... I don't quite agree with that. But at the same time, I do... Low levels are a time when a player should be learning the game, not speeding into their 20s. May I remind you that level 20 is usually the mark when a player starts discovering the vulnerabilities and strengths of their toon. HP and damage values start to reflect their archetypes and whatnot. Speeding characters up to this mark is... debatable. Leveling up too quickly will cause new players to quickly gain what took vets months. Hardly fair. Also it will cause the game's appeal to wear off faster. So many level 50s and most players think the game is over for them. -
I've lost track of how much my build costs... but here it is:
*Edit!* This build has served me quite well for soloing and teaming. However, I don't recommend putting off Fast Healing until 49 if you're looking to level up. I did this for slotting reasons mostly (I wanted 5 slots in Energy Torrent). For TFs, losing Fast Healing isn't the end of the world, and I'm still effective... but you will definitely be better off taking it earlier.

I've got Energy Torrent in there for concept, so take that one with a grain of salt. Also, I'm in the process of adding IOs to my defensive powers for increased Regen. I highly suggest taking a look at Garth's BS/WP IO build in his guide. It's been a great help for me. This is just my personal build, and there are probably better out there (ones that use Build Up =P) -
Quote:Yes, I planned on changing Disembowel to Crushing Impact. I didn't think slotting Parry as an attack would matter, but I'll give it a try for sure. Thanks for the reply.Chimera has 25% lethal resistance. If you can't take him down, don't worry. Wipe him out as an EB and continue with the arc.
But I see the rest of the problem now that I'm looking at your build. Both Parry and Disembowel lack any damage slotting. I recommend slotting them purely as attacks, and using a chain of Head Splitter -> Parry -> Disembowel -> Hack -> Parry. I don't know if it'll be enough to take down Chimera, but it should get you through some AVs. -
So I finally decided to take my BS/WP to join the AV club... and now I'm getting ready to tear my hair out. I can survive easy (thank you, Parry), it's doing damage that is the problem. I was at Chimera for a good 5 minutes before realizing I wasn't going anywhere. Here is my build, as of now:

Now... I have a Respec, so I can change around powers and slotting if needed. Thematically, I would prefer to keep Energy Torrent, but I understand if it has to go. Remember, I want to solo AVs. Also, I can't afford any purples, sorry =[
Also, I plan on replacing Kinetic Crash in Disembowel with Crushing Impact... this is just my (very close to exact) in-game build. -
Well, that's nice. They also mentioned fifth powers to a lot of the pools, which can be very cool as well.
*Edit* Since they did actually look at the APPs, maybe they will receive customization benefits as well? I doubt it, but you never know. -
My vote is for Claws/Willpower. Claws will make your life pre-20 (where you really should be picking up Quick Recovery from Willpower) much easier. It will also allow you to delay the always needed Stamina from the Fitness Power Pool. Claws also have great single target damage and some decent AoE, plus they're quick and have some cool weapon options. Willpower is very straightforward, but you will NEED the first seven powers (the last two are nice, but not necessary), so you're build will be fairly tight. But you can delay Stamina, which will free up some power choices. This is great for a new player, so you can really mess around with the set and see what you really want. Super Reflexes will require eight of the nine powers, with the last one being STRONGLY recommended (Elude), plus you need to take Stamina. To get to Stamina, you'll need to take two prerequisites from the Fitness pool (Hurdle or Swift and then Health, most likely). This will put a lot of stress on your build early on. And if you skip Stamina at 20 or 22, you'll find your endurance will almost always be empty. Finally, Super Reflexes kind of sucks until around level 30. Willpower is decent right away and gets good at 20, then great at 28 (Quick Recovery and Heightened Senses respectively).
All of that ranting aside, take the powers that fit your character's concept. I personally never design a character around powers, I choose the powers based on the character... but you may or may not be different. Anyway, have fun. Scrappers are a great way to start off (and we have the BEST forum!) =D -
Was JUST teaming with a Kat/Dark that had a hefty list of AVs he had soloed in his Bio. Assuming he wasn't full of it, it should be doable.
-
Yeah, I noticed that. Looked at the info and went "Oh!", then looked at the detailed info and went "ooohhh..." (Mag 4.something is definitely not KD =P)
-
I rolled a Corruptor, thought it might be fun. I tried Sonic/Cold, two sets I have ZERO experience with. I'm looking for some power choice advice. Should I take the two ice shields over Snow Storm at first? Or should I hold off on Snow Storm? Is Shockwave worthwhile? Some general strategy and build advice would be greatly appreciated as well.
-
Make sure to show us all the end-result! I know I'm dying to see it =P
-
I must agree, Martial Arts looks really pretty. Eagle's Claw is such an "in your FACE!" attack, as the animation is epicly LONG =P
-
I think the Defender Inherent, Vigilance, could use a look from the devs. It's not bad, and it works, but when you compare to every other AT's inherent it's poo. Every other AT inherent rewards their players for doing their job (Supremacy is debatable, I suppose). Every other also has use solo. The Defender inherent does none of this. It doesn't fit with what inherents are supposed to be (discerned from looking at all the other inherents)

Quote:That's a good idea, some people are too stupid to realize they're not being "healed." However, even the best of Controllers, Defenders and Tankers can't keep the worst teams alive. The other day, I was on my WP tank and was taking it one group at a time. Was spamming Foot Stomp, Taunt and Fireball as well as tabbing targets to pull aggro. Yet we had a Blaster who died at least once every fight. No one complained, and the Blaster was laughing the whole way. But a little part of my Tanker heart dies with my teammates. Then the Scrapper part of me tells it to shut up and keep fighting =PI get tells from AE monkeys all the time while on my fire/storm asking for a healer. I say "sure" and join the team. People stop dying and the group moves faster. I don't have 02 boost on my bar most of the time.
I automatically translate "healer" as "someone to keep us alive". All of my toons are healers in some way or another under this logic.
When I played WoW I was a healer on my mage. Tank yells "stop pulling aggro". I respond "I was healing you". Same thing here.
And to be on topic, that's why people think "healers" (read: Empathy) are necessary. Even an inexperienced Empath can be of use on a bad team (they've got Rez, right?), but an inexperienced Storm, for example, will drive even a great team insane. -
Genius idea, Gabby. And so far it's working out brilliantly. There was a successful RWZ raid that Gabby helped coordinate (the leader didn't show up until right before we began). And Gabby, Morris and a few others (myself included) ran a Manticore TF. I'm sure there have been more success stories =] It's off to a great start!
-
Yay, I get another chance!
DCed and came back in to RWZ 2, then never got back into the first zone.
Fingers crossed this time =D
