While playing the game a coupla nights ago (and incidently hearing the chalet music in the hero side Pocket D vault??????) it occured to me that a zone set in Antartica might make an interesting place to visit?
The zone would be loosely based on the movie "The Thing"
Players would book passage on a ship from Paragon City or the Rogue Isles and then arrive in the zone at a supply base on the outskirts of the zone.
The zone itself would use the snow and ice environment from the chalet sans trees with rough uneven terrain riddle with tunnels and caves (like the tunnels in Faultline). At the center of the zone would be an abandoned research station.
Two type of contacts would be available in the zone; the first would be a hero/villian neutral contacts that would send heros and villians on exploration missions around the zone to collect resources of some sort which the characters could trade in the same manner as MA tickets. These missions would involve exploring the caves and tunnels as well as points of interest (old supply bases, camp sites, vehicle crash areas, unusual geological sites, ect). These missions would also provide the general backstory of the zone.
The second type of contact would be specific to heros or villians. Missions would be appropriately themed to each type and as the heros and villians completed the various missions, the true story of the zone would be revealed as well as opening missions based in the abandoned reseach station which would ultimately culminate in a task force specific to heros or villians aimed at either stopping the ancient menace or gaining mastery over it.
As an option, the hero and villian specifc contacts could be hidden to new arrivals to the zone and as the characters completed neutral contact missions they would gain noteriety which would ultimately reveal the hidden contacts.
Crey seems like a good fit as an established enemy group for the zone along with the Devouring Earth. Malta could be involved as well. Winter Lord and his gang could be present as also as a sort of environmental hazard.
A new enemy group could be introduced for the zone, playing on the movie theme, these enemies would range from people who have been driven mad to enemies who have been infected (transformed, replaced, ect) by the ancient evil at the abandoned research base. The former would be normal except for thier madness fueled ability and the latter would actually transform into a hybrid monster of some sort.
Another idea I had for an antarctic zone would be a dual zone of sorts with antarctic missions ultimately opening the way into a second tropical "Land of the Lost" zone (although I havent given much thought to it beyond that and it would be a neat way toget dinosaurs into the game). -
Naw thats not evil, having to kill 50 vazhi in Steel Canyon... now thats evil!

I can somewhat agree with that, the advantage being with the sucktastic SO's in place, you develop and build an play style that makes the final IO'd character flat out awesome sauce.
Then again maybe its perspective, I've pretty much played a nrg/nrg blaster during the good and the bad and I'm playing a claws/will power scrapper that continually amazes me with his ability to survive and devstate the enemy.
My blaster is almost jealous of my scrapper's spin attack. -
Y'know I've pondered that?
3,546,481 prestige and 24 SG badges, I wonder what that would be worth?
Hmmmm.... maybe 20 inf per prestige and maybe 1000 inf per badge? Not a bad deal methinks if you can live with whatever the SG name is. -
Heh, I'm pretty lazy when it comes to lower level IO's so I just slot SO's until I ding 50 then go on a buying spree.

Quote:LMFAO - to funnyI had a student in one of my classes, a woman in her thirties. She had become absolutely ADDICTED to World of Warcraft. And I mean literally so. She and her husband had gotten into the game, bought twin computers so they could play together, and then proceeded to do NOTHING ELSE for the next year. They played eighteen hours a day (more if their energy drinks would keep them going). They both quit their jobs, then went through all their savings paying for only their "necessities": game subscription, food, and electricity. Next they had to start selling their furniture a piece at a time, everything except their computer chairs, and took to sleeping on the floor.
Eventually the guy ended up meeting another female WoW player online, went to meet her in person, and cheated on his wife.
The wife, in turn, figured it was then OK for her to do the same, took up with a teen-ager she ALSO met in the game, and left her husband. She STILL plays every waking moment she's not in class, now with her new "man."
Now, here's the kicker: when I mentioned to her my connection to CoH, she said "City of Heroes? I tried it, but didn't care for the other players. Those people are CRAZY." -
Quote:Well that was the condensed version designed for maximum impact, the wordier version just implied the same thing.Wow. The thread went two pages before comments like this popped up.
And here I was thinking things would have gone sour within the first few posts!
Then again, maybe working retail has finally taken its toll -

Quote:Ditto, my main character is the big daddy warbucks for my SG, providing not only monetary funding but tech support as well. Most (but not all) of mine are connected through my main character somehow.
So remember folks, if your ever passing through Pinnacle dimension its Advanced Cybernetics And Dynamics Industrial for all your tech and science needs.
Just don't pay attention to the OSHA investigationLOL, two friends have backgrounds involving ACADI - the first was encased in an experimental set of spandex that fused with his body and the second had everything mashed off below the waist.
Then there is my main villian which is an artifical intelligence created by ACADI as a master control for all its computer systems which was unfortunately corruppteds by the Rikti and is now hanging out in the Rogue Isles waiting to supplant Recluse and basically turn Pinnacle into the CoH version of the borg. -
Robbery and the like doesn't realy bother me, but sacrificing innocents, torture, slavery ect do (when I'm really immersed in the story).
Although I must admit (after beating the game) I found my self commiting what is essentially an evil act. I pursued Morrigan's romance plot all the way to the end picking up the Witch Gone Wild and Dark Pact badges. Although in the epilouge I see my character made a lasting impression (through conversation choices and gift from her).
That alone would make for an interesting plot if DA2 comes along. -
Y'know I only have 3 villians compared to my 17 heros, I hear about the cool arcs in CoV and I dig the more insidous ones. However try as I might I cannot get into being a villian (moment of truth insert--> I bribed my nephew to power level a villian on my account so I could access the VEATs)
Anyways, last night it occurred to me why I can't seem to get into villany after completing this one quest in Dragon Age: Origins.
the scene in question involves going to a certain village and clearing out a certain castle and the finally of said quest involves the possible sacrifice of a certian NPC (anybody who has reached this point knows what I'm talking about)
I didn't like my choice but it seemed prudent given the circumstances, and honestly I sorta feel like a ****** for doing it
Sigh... and I so wanted to be the first global dictator in history -
Quote:NoI'm just wondering... what exactly do I have Combat Jumping for now that Ninja Run makes you jump LOTS higher, makes you also much faster, and is generally absolutely awesome?
Only for yet some more immobilize protection?
Does Ninja Run take up a power pool selection too? -
Man, I wish they would implement a spear power set!

Status update; SEVa now has snow (albeit only lightly)

Quote:I'll galdy trade so... all of this rain further south for your snow. Hampton at its worst is supposed to get a blustery 1/2" and Newport News maybe an 1-1/2"There's a lot of snow here in Charlottesville. Or more accurately a lot of snow here for Charlottesville. Most we've had in years, and nobody here can drive worth a damn in the first place.
Odd thing is they're usually way ahead of the curve on tossing down salt and plowing the roads. I mean they'll salt when there's just a high chance of snow ... and this time nothing. Not even any plows aside from 'random guy with a plow on their pickup'. -
