The sole savior of the planet cut a deal with the creature that the rest of humanity could be spared if he could keep them in line and docile, thus creating his iron fisted police state with the help of several criminally insane supers that had the tech, the knowhow and the combat expertise to set up his little empire for 'the good of humankind'.

And player characters of any make, model, and creed are supers of any origin that are snagged and 'recruited' into the mandatory special police force.

Lots of space there for creative concepts, none of which have to be specifically catered -to- praetoria.
Yes, but I didn't know that much about it.

The game has a paragraph about Praetoria when you select it at character creation. That's all you get. I'm not saying that after you played through the content you wouldn't be able to figure out the character you should be playing.

    They won't.

The people who get purples and such want to be overpowered. They don't want a challenge. Their goal is to beat the game through exploiting everything they can. Making the game harder would drive them away.

You just need to sell them an iwin button with a 10 minute timer, then every month sell a new one with 10 seconds shorter on the timer. They will pay, farm, or whatever for the tiniest fraction of being more overpowered.

But complaining that such things can be done is silly. I can play solitaire and ignore that others could stack the deck so they always win. What they can do does not affect what I do.

I do see grounds for complaint in temptation. If the game added a defeat all button to my powerbar which made the game boring if I used it, it would be there and not using it would be stupid. It is one thing to not put in a bunch of effort to be uber, it is another to have to deliberately gimp yourself.
  4. is that I cannot make a Praetorian character.

CoH lets you make just about anything and you become a hero.

Praetoria is such a specific world that I know basically nothing about. It is not really a superhero world.

So while the content is good, I can't help feeling like I don't belong. My character does not fit in.

Five enhancements increases Ranged Defense by 1.25%.
Six enhancements provides 4 points of protection against Knockback effects on you.

Ok, dumb question.... Looking at these values, is it worth 6 slotting for the kb protect? It is one more source of kb protect, but two 3 slot gives 6% dam and 24% regen. On a bio armor or a nature slotted heavily to take advantage of its regen, (lots and lots of +10/12 regen pairs), is it worth it?

Is 1.25 range def + kb protect worth it? You would have to look at it as 5 slotting for defense, and using a random kb protect in a res/def power....

I am wondering about this for multiple characters.
it is not worth 6 slotting for the kb protection if you can get it elsewhere - like an IO kb protect

It is stupidly powerful. I respec'd to use it. It is perma'd, and I can use it every fight from out of LoS.

I don't use flashfire or cinders anymore - except against things that are immune to knockdown.
  7. the problem with these sorts of discussions is that people almost always base their opinion on one thing and don't state it, a few do.

ice blast is a high control blast set. That's its role. Rating it based on damage and ignoring its control is silly.

likewise DP has low damage but has a lot of aoe and has a stun you can use every fight. Rating it just on damage and not on utility is silly.

Fire Aura is the worst defense set - if you rate it only on protection. Because its role is damage.

That is not to say that there are not bad sets, but the commonly mentioned ones are typically ones where the person just does not like what the set does. If you don't sap, electric blast is terrible. If you do sap it can be great.

    not quite

for a dominator this is probably true.
Controllers have the problem that it does not grant containment.

but from outright control, drop from out of LoS, continuous knockdown, up every fight. It is crazy.

  10. you can get the enahncements from the blockbuster every 20 hours, not every 24.

So if you play around the same time each day, no need to know exactly when you did it. You can do the blockbuster each night around 7-11 and it will be unlocked.

it's the sort of minor detail that makes such a big difference.

Is there any other minor detail that is better?
  11. so I guess some questions would be:

If you could move your characters for free (and keep their names) to another server would you do it?

If you could move your SG and its base to another server would you do it?
  12. I think the basic concept of having granite stack with your other armor so that it isn't a one power set is a good idea.

If I were doing it, I would want the set to get up to about 70% res and 20% def without granite, then 90% s/l res, 80% other res, and 30% def with granite (from the set and enhancements, not including pool powers).

So you could tank fairly well without it, but if you needed the boost you could get it at the cost of -rech, -dmg, etc.

Ok sorry for the wall of text but go ahead and tell me what you think.

  14. A few years ago I played on Triumph. My SG dissolved. I could not find teams. I moved to Freedom. I eventually decided I did not like the farm spam and moved to Virtue.

It seems that I am not alone in my desires as Virtue is now packed, Freedom seems to be declining, and most other servers seem to be almost dead.

We all know that if you are almost dead, only true love can save you.

Maybe you don't want to move to Virtue, maybe you want to switch to a low population server with just a bit more population than the one you are on.

So do you have true love with your server? What is keeping you there?

Do you just love the server name?
Don't want to transfer all of your characters?
Have an SG that you don't want to leave?
Have a base that you don't want to leave?

I'm not talking about shutting down servers or forced migration. I'm just asking if you are truly happy where you are, or if you feel stuck.

kb converter in bonfire will push fire past ice since you will get effectively ice slick in addition to the other nice stuff.

  17. 1. Too many AV's and Elite Bosses to make it a lot of fun on repeat. Not so much of an issue in the coliseum, but in the heist it distracts from the story and doesn't really add anything.

    2. Heist is repeatable due to the different roles. Coliseum is dull by the 3rd time. Just slogging through AV's and EB's (which were fun the first time).

    3. Tying them together is annoying since they are so different.

    Overall it was fun once.

The Heist is very cool and I would like more like it. Without the AV fights I would want to do it multiple times.

Colosseum was fun once. AV fights get old fast. I don't think I am willing to slog through it more times.

  20. the "standard" objective in a mission is to fight stuff. Defeat all or defeat a boss.
You can have a click objective, but usually you fight the stuff to that point and then click.

People vary from that by having a series of objectives that tell a story - access the computer to find the location, do something at the location, do something else, lead person to exit. The combat becomes more of something in the way rather than what you are doing in the mission.

Riddles have you want to click a certain thing and avoid other things. There is actual thought to the clicking.

Then there are crafter missions which have no fighting.

I am wondering how far people have taken this. Has anyone built a mission with no combat that has you talk to people but have to talk to the right people?

The Heist in the summer blockbuster made me wonder about this. They have a heist which is broken up by fighting. But has anyone built a heist in AE?
  21. I very rarely on teams think we need more damage. I frequently think we need more mitigation. Now I team 1-45 and stop. I don't do incarnate content which is very different once you add Judgement.

Everyone does damage. Not everyone does much mitigation. Especially in teams where many players focus on just doing one thing and do not play to their character's full capacity.
  22. you could start as a villain and skip half of those tip missions
  23. by "adventure" I don't mean fighting, far from it. I mean non-tutorial, crafting center, etc. One meant to be played for the fun of the experience.

I know of Murders in the RWZ Morgue which is a bit of a mystery
I know that some arcs have riddles

What arcs are as far from the "defeat all" baseline as you can get?
  24. lots of unknown comics get made into movies like MiB
they are good stories even if no one has heard of them. And you can you can change them alot without a fan base complaining.

Black Panther is too boring for a movie. Watching Avengers animated show he is just dull. They have to make him perfect, wise, serious, etc - so he is just dull.

Luke Cage should have a movie
