Hi there new supergroup is looking for more members, we are very active and very socialble
Name: Def Con One
Server: Union.
At the moment we only have about 20ish players and are looking for more, any level, any archetype.
At present we are heavily pve but we do make regular trips into pvp land mostly Sirens Call at the moment, and once we get more SOs on our characters I am sure we will be there more often
Recruiter types:
@Spurr (thats me).
@Girl Friday
@Raging Tiger
I can be found most days in game or on the Forumites channal.
Laters -
So far I have avoided the fitness pool on all but one of my stlalkers. I found that unless I was in a protracted pvp battle I had few endurance issues.
Personaly AS is one of the powers I would consider holding off on getting its nice but often there are powers that are quicker anc can cause a lot of damage too (dark melee is a good one for that).
There is still a lot of room for individual builds on stalkers, its only if you go for common pvp builds that you tend to run out of room :P -
Yeah both have a fair few pvpers around, though I find that the onion pvpers seem to be a bit more "serious" and less talkative than the defiant ones. Certainly sirens call on onion is busier than defiants SC at 8pm.
-
I love those moments when you are horribly outnumbered
I like to think as long as I am good humoured about it then people have fun, and after the first 20 or thirty of my deaths the enemy usually start to "open up" and talk or at least use different tactics.
The only time it really gets dull is if the enemy just dont talk....Damn it I spend time wokring on my death moans :P -

I had my first taste of the sour side of zonal pvp on the weekend. I decided to pop into RV for a bit of action on my level 50 villain. I was one of only two villains in the zone and there were about 12 heroes. The heroes were there to farm the turrets and I decided I'd make things slightly more difficult for them. I grabbed a Heavy and started to win back pillboxes for the villains. This was met with a torrent of abuse over broadcast. I decided to not let this faze me and carried on, adamant that if I did run into the heroes I'd try and put up a good fight. 12 against 1 arent really the best odds but I had nothing to lose. Of course I lost many times (as you would expect), but were the broadcast messages saying that I was selfish (the actual messages werent that polite) really necessary. I mean, there wasn't really a lot I could do against a dozen heroes except slow them down marginally. The reaction I got was as if I was leading a 12 villain strong gank squad against a solo badger.
I shrugged it off anyway and continued to put up a fight for a while. I certainly won't let it put me off visiting the zones, but can see what it could do to people a little less thick skinned and/or new to the game.

Sounds like the usual RV attitude to me, I am starting to think there is some kind of radiation that turns people into idiots in that zone. Saddly its not restricted to any particular server either.
Its a shame really as my hero is getting to high to lurk around sirens call much longer, and I would really love to use my higher powers in pvp a bit more rather than having my power bars set for lvl 30 play (Spurr is lvl 40 now). -
Ice is a nice set, though the random "moment of death" does happen when everything just gets past the ice
Yesterday I got hit by everything in the mob it seemed, took me down to a sliver of health that was just able to regen faster than some dot I was suffering. But then the moment ended and reverything went back to missing me, mad me feel like a god
At least till my end crasheddamn zappy stuff.

I went ice/mace with my mace tanker, and have wished I did not since the start. Im still not sure why I did not take energy, but I think it might of been because I have /energy on a few other alts.
It works in pve, and sure I do feel like most other tankers poor cousin if im in a multi tank team but it does work even if it is not very inspiring.
My main gripes are the speed of it, its so slow! And having a slow attack chain is bad news if you team with impatient people, it does not take much to get them saying you're not doing anything..
I'm going to hold out 'till lvl 30 before I make up my mind though, its possible the set might suprise me. -

Someone was in a PVP zone without Knockback protection??!?
(Tell them to STAY THERE while I grab my scrapper...)

My blaster has no KB protection so keep an eye out on defiant -

IT seems lately, there is an epidemic of teams who dont use tanks to their full potential. (hopefully its not a long running thing cos i love old skool tanking) What i mean is that ive teamed with a lot of PuG's lately and in the interests of not coming across all ****** retentive, i havent tried to "educate" them on what a tank actually does. And it seems that I probably should. The amount of scrappers whom i have teamed with lately who for some reason (maybe its blood lust i dont know) cant wait those ten extra seconds for me to herd up and get the aggro solid, and run off ahead and aggro on their own. (this has on numerous occasions resulted in their death, surprisingly enough. Not surprisingly though guess who gets the blame when that happens) its not just scrappers mind you. the amount of times ive been herding, gone to my customary pillar or corner to draw them in only to find my expected herd has been frozen in their tracks by the moronic troller who has gone and held them in a nice "Spread out as far apart as possible" configuration. Again resulting in people getting nailed because the are too far apart to taunt all in one go.
Another classic is the blaster who messes it up, while im off getting baddies attention with my AoE the blaster decides to snipe one of the ones i havent gotten to yet, which then results in me having to chase them down to regain aggro.
It certainly adds a new dynamic to the game anyway. Im up for a challenge like anyone else but when i start getting blamed becasue our scrapper thinks he's a tank or people dont understand the phrase "Herding to here stay put and dont attack till i say Ready!" then i get annoyed.
Rant Over

Ive encountered a lot of "immortal" scrappers recently, who refuse to let anyone else draw/herd as "they can tank too" they're normaly the ones demanding constant defender companions to keep them buffed up too.
A lot of teams dont seem to want to adopt the coherency that working with a tanker can require, so in a fair few pugs I tend to be nothing more than a poor scrapper, keeping an eye out to keep everyone alive by managing the aggro as best I can given the teams Im with.
Thankfully Ive been teaming with a lot of squid recently and they're much easier to team withmainly as if they run around a corner before me there allways seems to be a few voids/quantum waiting for them

I play /en on my main pvp character and sure it is powerful but it does have its risks, personaly I hate going into melee with my blaster me going into melee range usually end up with me getting stunned/immobed/mezzed in fairly quick speed.
I do wonder if perhaps it is overused due to the lack of players in pvp?
When the zones were busy and we had a few teams going, most of us had little time to use our melee secondaries, compare that to when the zones are emptier and I end up living off of my melee pool.
/Em does hit hard but it does lack the versatility of other pools, I would gladdly drop a number of powers from it if I could gain another ranged power or two -

i just think it's ridiculous being perma stunned in the zones when i play a squishy. Either buff the other sets or tweak the stuns bonesmasher having a 75% chance to stun is too powerful for me and since when is that long animation time?
[/ QUOTE ]
u cant be perma stunned any more than you can be perma held in pvp (except in specific situations but stuns cannot achieve this)
bonesmasher is one MELEE attack and if you manage to get into melee combat then you deserve to reap the benefits, what you going to whine at next? Screech? Beanbag? These are FAR more effective stuns, if the amount of /em blasters is causing you a problem you may want to spend more time practicing than moaning as you more than most should know how to deal with them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Pffft if anyone even thinks of comming after Screech then they will have to get past me and a big hammer -
Woohoo my fav topic
It does have its uses in some situations but on the whole I would agree that defiance is a pretty poor inherant.
To be honest I allways thought it would make more sense to have it on a melee character, perhaps linked to their taunt radius..The more they get hurt the angrier they get and the more attention they draw from the enemy as a result.
I would much rather have vigilance instead. -
I keep trying RV, but the constant whining and insults from people when I destroy their precious mecha units is not pleasent.
I think the last time I saw any decent pvp in there was back before christmas when my villain knocked heads with Fireguardian, was nice to be able to use all my powers -
I toyed around with one a while ago, but it was only when I decided I needed to get some villain alts up to pvp levels that I really pushed at one. So far they are one of the most fun villain ATs I have played.
Of course getting knocked out the sky repeatidly by Dalron Burner might of helped :P -

People need to set a time and day for people to meet up in certian zones, say weekly, like i did with the Warburg Weekly raid, it worked ealy well, every week we had atleast about 20 people fighting on the beach, i think that, if you can gurrantee theres going to be some pvp at a certain time, people will log on because they Know they are going to get some pvp, and not enter the zone finding hteres about 2 people there, and just log straight off again.

Very true.
I know SC used to be fairly good from about 10pm onwards, before that It could go either way with population. -

What i don't understand is the following... If you were hit with a bolt of electricity (Assuming you were a superhero of some sort) would you not assume it would stun you opposed to putting you to sleep? I feel the dev's need to re-think that one a little...
[/ QUOTE ]
[Warning: Do not try this at home kids]
Undoing a Televison socket that was still live taught me about this. It freezes up all your muscles as if you were asleep until the connection is broken. THEN it hurts like hell. Sleep's the best way of describing that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Guess it depends on the situation, when cleaning up after a titanic water fight (ah those fun student days :P) I made the mistake of going to make sure the light switch was not wet, so towel in hand I went to dry it (just in case) and gopt thrown 5 foot backwards by the jolt..I also made a squeek like a startled hamster.
Minimal damage to me other than the initial locking up of my body that was broken once I got thrown backwards, and a little bruising from the KB.
-
Its because I was away, they realised that if I was not about then the villains would have no one to eat, so thus no need for working pvp zones
-
Mind/psi= Villainous or the next lvl up. I found that on solo any diffs higher were just to slow to work through, and in missions few teams would work with a dominator (hell getting them to work with mms was bad enouhg :P).
Fire/En =so far im having fun on ruthless, solos much faster than my previous dom and plays really nicely too.
Cages of fire does draw Huuuuge Aggro though, and it is kinda upsetting to see the entire map ignore the raging brutes and come hunt me down -
[ QUOTE ]
Hopefully the patch on Test will make the Brutes more formidable. The problem with MM is that they need to stay near their pets (afaik). The pets gain small buffs when the MM is close by. Bodyguard helped make the MM better, but its still not enough. Most PvP fights are frantic rushing around and MMs just can't do that.
I fought Syn's MM in the Arena (as my sonic defender) and didn't even come close to beating him. I'm sure a fort'd scrapper could two or three shot a MM (if bodyguard wasn't up).
My Energy Brute can be taken down by anyone with Aim and a high damage attack + Stun/Hold. On the Recluse SF he was able to distract Citadel, while the rest of the team fought another Hero. Thanks to buffs from an Ice corruptor and Dark MM. (Also the fact that Energy Brutes have high Energy defence helped.)
[/ QUOTE ]
MMs still need help for pvp. Bodyguard mode is a trap not a blessing, all it does is reduce the odds of a mastermid getting killed in the first blast. In return it seriously reduces the combat effectiveness of their pets.
Unless the zone is empty masterminds are nothing more than slightly mobile weapon emplacements, or ambush hunters. And in a fully dynamic pvp battle they come out last. -
Yeah a /poison MM should have no problems with most /regen scrappers..Obviously there are going to be some who still eat all that come before them though.
Not sure how much better spines would be though as poison does have some nice anti toxic damage stuff with a good recycle rate and fairly low end cost.
Like a lot of pvp their best advantage would be to hit fast and hard before the MM realises what is going on -
Aaah a villain.
Ive not rped much on defiant cov recently, check with the Patriot brigade though I think they've got a few active villains lurking aroudn so might know more up to date info -
To cry "gank" is sually a sign that the person needs to take a few minutes away from the computer and chillout a bit, Ive seen perfectly rational people suddenly turn into " gank victims" even though the situation in the zone has not changed and the dynamics are fairly equal.
Hel I've been accused of ganking...But I put that down to my "victory by attrition" tactic.. If I get killed several hundred times, then they get complacent..or Get RSI and cant use the mouse/keyboard properly -
There is plenty of roleplay on Defiant, but the big difference is the server lacks a version of the Galaxy Girl social meetings.
There are a number of dedicated role-play supergroups/villain groups around (scan down a few threads and you should find one about the Patriot Brigade where a few other role-players posted too).
Like the Union server though there a number of role-play groups that are closed groups who rarely open their doors to new additions without a lot of pre-gaming first.
I hope you find others , it would be nice to see a few more faces around on Defiant -

OK returning to the Original point, as this thread has turned into a bit of a whine about villain power sets. Tactics play a large part in any pvp battle, and like it or not a well built Villain team actually has the tactical advantage. So the Heroes have an empath in their team, YOurbrutes dom's and corr's take the attention of the tanks blasters and scrappers, whilst the stalkers (for whom not yapping on b'cast is a good way of not rousing suspicion) can whip around the back and nail the empath, then leg it to a safe distance to let hide kick back in, Now its just a waiting game until CM runs out, however highly stacked it is, it doesnt last that long, if the emp rrezzes and comes back , you can garauntee CM will have pretty much worn off, and the stalkers can strike him again to keep him from re-stacking, and then assist the rest of the team in taking the hard hitters down. As long as your brute isnt a complete wuss this plan will work, especially if the dom's corr's take some of the heat.
And without trying to sound condescending, A large amount of your success can be atuned to how you have built your toon. Ive seen stalkers and brutes get torn apart by a team of well organised blasters, but ive also seen two stalkers take down a tanker and his empath. You wouldnt just rush into battle against +2 enemies in a mission, and you certainly shouldnt do it in pvp. Not to mention a contingency plan will aid you a lot. Never plan for everything going smoothly, always plan for the worst case scenario.
Its too easy to blame other players or the game physics when you are beaten "A good workman always blames his tools" i believe is a good way of looking at it.
So instead of whingieing about how biased the game is (which the majority of people would tend to disagree anyway) plan your characters and your tactics better knowing what you have learned from your experiences thus far.

Ive not managed to get any of my US alts to pvp levels yet, as ive been too busy moving house or working on the lvl 40+ hero content with my main char(finaly).
But from what I have seen over here(have not pvp'd for a month properly though) it is all down to tactics, I think hero ATs are much more forgiving for those teams who are not greatly skilled at pvp, with the builds supporting each other nicely.
By comparison the villain teams do need to all be on their game, their ATS are all muce more aggressive and this can lead to villains running off and getting butchered even by the least skilled of pvpers( Me).
CM does not make that much of a difference from my perspectives, as a stalker I dont really care as even if they can see me they usually cant hit me. And as a blaster most stalkers can walk up to me and kill me no matter what +perception type buffs Ive got running..
Even Doms can eat me up if I have stacked cm, many times Dalron Burner has dropped me from the sky with his attacks even though I am cm'd. And those times he has not been able to kill me have been down to the doms lack of damage (which for an assault AT sucks) or team support on my end. -
I just laugh if people call me a noob, in the end their opinions dont matter to me or anyone else. And if they want to jump around insulting me because they defeated me in pvp, fine good for them.
Because when it comes down to it, I am the one who has actually achieved things with my life that count
