Blapping
anything/En really
prob Ice/En will be the quickest attacks
For blapping, I like my elec/elec. 2 end drain powers, 3 holds (one from epics) and some very nice melee attacks means I can take on anything I can hit

yeah elec/elec is also very good
Ice/Eng, Eng/Eng, Elec/Eng, Eng/Elec, Elec/Elec, Ice/Elec, i think you get the picture
It says a lot about the AT's design when the 'high damage, no defense but stays at range' character can forego his ranged attacks entirely and do more damage in melee with little loss to survivabilty.
Fire/Eng FTW!
En/En or Elec/En
En En for keeping foes down
Elec en for draining endurace as you charge.
En secondary has the best "self buffs"
Ice/Energy is the best sets suited to Blapping.
World of Jackcraft.
basically not fire 1. or 2.. take a self heal, and later an armour, maeks ure u can move fast, so either slot swift or sprint and think of CJ or 3 slotted hover.
remember melee takes more end so end issues, /elec deals with this well but not until 35, /nrg copes from 18 ish but not full time, there is downtime. primary wise, nrg has defence in KD/KB, KB dist is bad if u are very melee intensive like an elec/elec blapper, nrg primary gives more dmg with subtle control, where elec primary gives more control directly butless dmg, no KB but heavy AoE and PBAoE dmg. ice primary is lethal but onyl single targets mostly.
aim and BU 3 slotted with recharge are a must also as early as poss.
a proper blapper doesnt get hit when, or not more than once or twice if they do when fighting even an invincible (+2/+3) mob, think about how u are going to make sure u dont get hit.

Basically you need a primary that gives you some control and a secondary that gives you big attacks to bash stuff with and a bit more control for good measure.
Elec/Elec or Ice/energy probably give you the best options for blapping, elec/energy and Ice/elec work well too.
Elec/Elec is probably going to give you the most hardcore mele orientated build, you can pretty much get in there and stay in there once you've learned how to take advantage of your end drains and holds, however it's a set that really becomes effective at higher level. Elec/Energy works along very similar lines, less holds, but with the stun element in the attacks instead, using power boost to make short circuit effective instead of combining it with power sink to get a reasonable amount of end drain.
Ice/Energy or Ice/Elec on the other hand give you far more versatility, very good ranged options, and in the case of ice/energy a secondary that very much supports your primary in addition to three good, strong, mele attacks.
Got to tehpoint where i tink I will have to respec out hasten and SS. I have enough attacks that I dont need hasten any more and am using Sj as travel power now.
Means I could add in build up as I only have aim at the moment and possibly somethingg from the power pools to supplement PvP actin. If going elec/elec need to note end drain is not much use there.

I am "blappish" with my current build (en/en/elec btw) - and with total focus and bone smash I deal quite alot of damage, especially when BU+aim. Charged armour from elec-epic gives me over 60% more HP since I've slotted max for def-res (effectively boosting my HP). Have 1 hold aswell from the elec-epic, and bosses +1 takes 2 zapz to hold, lieuts and minions get held on 1 zap. So -> zap boss, disorient lieut with TF+bonesmash (if not insta-killed), zap boss again (him held now), blast+bolt minions, deal with boss (hold'im and unleash carnage). Done.
Have only done a wee bit PvP, but if not held/mezzed I deal enough damage to be quite a threat considering I am squishy.

I'd suggest keeping hasten and SS in both for PvE and PvP.
I've slotted all my attacks with 2 recharges meaning they're mostly up fairly quick and I can get a decent attack chain going from mob to mob (after Power boost, aim, Buildup, to mobs have just been one shotted). However against toguher targets in PvE (Bosses, AVs the like) and PvP (Scrappers, tankers, brutes) you are going to need your strongest attacks up asap so that you don't allow mobs/players that you arn't controlling to get the jump on you. Hasten allows them up quicker, meaning you can kill the beasty quick and get back to controllling other foes. It's all aboput working out how to stay alive.
SS is useful here as it not only allows you to get away quickly but it allows you to get in quick to, doing a hit and run on a target. With the combo mentioned earliar I can one shot one mob, turn around and one shot a second before the mob have got their act together about where I am (as since I entered melle the melee weapons get out and they start chasing). Then I can get my holds and power thrust out and clean up the rest of the mob. SS makes a great blapper Alpha strike
Quick question PvP or PvE?
PvE my inf is on elec / elec or ice / elec.
In PvP ice / nrg is prolly the best if you wanna fight in all the zones.

no-one mentioned sonic...
sonics Rez debuff plus energy does some serious damage
Cause sonic is good, but not the best.

Blapping combo new to me today! Hasten Aim Build up bone smasher 1st foe, power burst then punch the next then aim and build up again! (3 SOs rec red in Aim and Build up) self buffing FTW!

Got it in one. Elec/elec comes into it's own later on, and I'd use a couple of recharge and dis-orient slots with acc for charged brawl rather than go for Havoc Punch as well.

[/ QUOTE ]u'd have a job, chraged brawl and havoc punch sleep as opposed to stun, this is prolly because stun + drain would be way overpowered, and to compensate for the lack of time control that KB has, we get sleep, still imo 2 acc 3 dmg 1 recharge/endred/enddrn is the way for elec melee.
i think imaginary summed it up
o and as for sonic, its far too slow imo, and the -res is barely worht it 1v1 unless against a tank

I'm guessing an AR/Energy build - focusing more on the punching side but with long range options - would be a strange beast indeed?
Want to do one for a particular "bounty hunter" concept...
Power Thrust,
Burst,
Energy Punch,
Build Up,
Air Superiority,
Beanbag,
Bone Smasher,
Sniper Rifle,
Fly,
Conserve Power,
Flamethrower,
Stun,
Grant Invisibility,
Invisibility,
Ignite,
Power Boost,
M30 Grenade,
Full Auto,
Boost Range,
Total Focus,
Body Armor,
Cryo Freeze Ray,
LRM Rocket,
Sleep Grenade
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

The bad side of AR for blapping is the weapon draw animation, really bad if you want to pull primary attack in the middle of melees (and I dont think any secondary can keep up a melee-only attack chain).

That's one negative.
The other negative is the rooting on animations for a large number of high-damage-attacks in AR. Nothing spells doom in melee like being stuck in one place for more than a few seconds.

AR has no aim, draw time long... Aim + build up area blappers friend.
Elec/elec - on way into mob drain end, then short circuit then have big damage in the blaps with elec field on it should be a very effective and short fight. Thats what I would do, but I'm en/en with blapper and one on one he is PvP awesome and 1 on 3/4 +1 minions in PvE he is scaryily fast and hard! Elec/En might eb a very good combo, drain then HUGE hits and lots of good buffs, remember that Power Boost in teh energy secondary will enhance all secondary functions in powers, like End drain in short circuit and ball lightening...
That all said, I did come up with a concept AR/Elec build, with a focus on melee.
I wouldn't like to play it, but it would be effective against certain opponents.
