    I like the electric stuff better than gloom. The bonus AoE is nice. I think I've got a good balance for Def. Any improvements?

  2. SO I'm back again after RL work stuff ate up a lot of time and I'm again looking at my SS/WP brute. But the last time I was looking at it was before incarnate and inherent fitness and it seems that SS/WP is no longer the flavour of the month brute, there are not many threads about them.

    It was the case that there was argument about whether to slot for Regen or Def or Rech. Did that argument ever get resolved? Also I'd like to get into farming with it to start getting some of the rare recipes for other toons.

    I'll start working on a biuld to post this weekend, I'm just looking to see if the rech/def/regen thing has changed.

  3. Thanks for all the idea's guys. I've got afterburner for concepts reasons and shockwave is also my "Get he hell away from me..." button. I'll keep poking at it.

    I know that as the arms race keeps growing shields, well all buff really, will become less and less an issue outside of 50+ content. I was just griping a bit.

  4. I;m getting better with Mids but I'm still at a bit of a loss with my sonic/sonic defender.

    I've slotted for Def because, well because it's defense. But I'm not sure about the final build. I'm not even suyre what to build for. My sonic has become not so fun on teams, at lvl 50 nowadays my shields are hardly much difference for most teams. I'm thinking of more solo play which will null 5 powers out of my primary, but at least it might be different. I've checked the guides here and have a pretty good defense toon, but is that what i should be slotting for?

  6. So I've tried to come up with a close combat build for my main and favorite toon but I'm not liking the results so far. Any advise out there? I want to max my use of Hot feet and FSC and RoF. Right now I have the Ice epic in mind for the Def shield and snow storm to stack more slow on the mobs. Should i be focusing on just +Def or Rech? My build is at home right now, I'll try posting it later.

  7. SO I started a MM Demon/TA and thought it would be a nice concept. But I was teamed up last night and was told that TA is a terrible power set for MM. Is it that bad? I'm just saying over all. The friend I was teamed with has played more MM than i have and pointed out no heal, no rez, no Buffs so I'm not sure he's wrong. I don't mind if it's not uber, but if it's terrible than I'd rather find out now than in 30 lvls.

    I wouldn't throw Oblits into Death Shroud as you get very little end redux in the set.
    Fly doesn't need fly speed enhancements as it's currently capped at the default.

    This isn't how I'd put together my Dark/Dark tank, but this is how I'd change up yours. Hopefully this gives you some ideas.
    Ya, FA was mostly a power that didn't need a lot of slots to be useful and I could put that To hit buff set in there for a bit more S/L DEF.

    I'd be willing to work on Kin Combats a bit but this isn't a main toon for me. When I was IO'ing out my SS/WP Brute I bought three sets of Smash.H. with what i made from one KinCom recipe. So if I get them I'll use them, but this toon would be back in line a bit right now. Unless it gets more fun to play once fixed.

    Death Shroud, that's a great catch. I usually default to Oblits when possible, but that's always been on click attack powers (blaster, defender type) thanks.

    I didn't know that about Fly. That explains something about a defender I slotted that didn't seem much faster.

    How would you build a dark/dark then? Honest question, I figured focus on S/L/M DEF as much as possible, then +Recov, then +Max HP. My experience with melee types is quite limited though, so if there are large gains to be made I'm more than interested. Really the only thing I'd question would be only one KB protections on a tank.

  9. So I just tried to do a ITF with my Dark/Dark tank and.. I mean... it was... oh em gee...my poor, poor tank. I was reduced to the stupid little brother on the team. I'm glad I was on Protector were pug TF team are very forgiving and understanding. I performed so bad I was near ready to kick myself off the team. Fortunately there were two other tanks so we still pulled it off but geeze did I ever feel pathetic. Now I know that Cimorians are brutal but I have a sonic/sonic defender that does better than poor Technoire did last night.

    This is not to be a "Dark tanks suck" thread. It my build. I know that. I don't have tough on this build because the last time I respec'd him I was hoping that O.Gloom would hold the worst of it at bay and I could get away without it. I was wrong. Very wrong. So I've worked out a new build and was hoping for some input.

    I can't afford KinCombats right now so the smashingH's instead. I like slotting Soul Drain for damage because when slotted it hits really hard. I like two Steadfast KB protection in a melee build because i find one isn't quite enough. Air Superiority, I really like that attack. It is a nice fill for the ST attack chain. Maul is nice but the End cost is kind of big to use without more than one target to hit. Also I like Flight as a travel power.

    I'm not really sold on EnergyMaster App. If there is a better idea out there go for it. I just took it because it's useful with only a slot or two investment.

  10. SO i'm playing with a new melee toon and I like Kinetic Melee. It's cool.

    But I wondering about secondaries. Melee is not my usual play style so I'm not hat up to speed on the secondaries. I made a fire/SR brute and got it to 20 but it's kinda Meh for me right now. I don't want to get to 25 or 30 and find out "Bad idea" again. I'd like to go with Inv for thematic and concept reasons but I'm not locked into it.

    So how do the secondaries stack up for scrappers? I know that Willpower is supposed to better than others but I have a SS/WP brute and would like something different.

    Comments?

    P.S. I don't play enough to have a billion inf to spend on IO's so "????? is great with < IO sets whatever > doesn't count.

  11. Well here's a rough idea.

    I like the idea of the self heal from Entropic chaos, plus 6.5% recharge bonus to boot. But if anyone has tried it and knows it doesn't work let me know.

    I'm looking to be up close to take advantage of hot feet + Rain of Fire combo. I've kinda given up on inferno, yes it is awesome when it goes off but the recharge and end crash kinda kill it for me.

    I decided to switch to Ice epic for the defense bonus. But if anybody has a good close combat build with fire epic i would prefer it. I like rise of the phoenix. It may not be the best power, but i think it is the coolest by far.

    As an aside, with fitness being free now, odes anybody else feel like trading a power selection or two for more slots?

  12. I'm breaking out my fire/fire/fire and I'm going to start slotting sets and not sure what to slot for. Is there a consensus on what to aim for? Def, Rech, damage? I'll post a build later right now i'm just wondering what to focus on. I'm planning on taking advantage of hot feet so hover blasting is out. I'd like to stick with flame mastery for concept but if i tint the ice mastery powers they could work too.

    So ideas?

    So I'm looking at this as a final build, or at least final for a while. I focused on +Def, then +rech and +HP. My main problem is financing. This build should be very inexpensive for what I'm getting. I sold one Kinetic Combat recipe and got enough to buy 4 full sets of Smashing Haymaker and the ingredients to build them. If I pickup something really cool I'll use I'll slot it but I don't have the time to get the billion+ Inf it takes to put together some of the builds I've seen here. In fact if anybody knows a good substitute for the numia's I'd love to hear it.

    But before I use a Respec I was hoping to get some proof reading done here. Mu Master is a concept thing but I'm willing to switch to another if it would make a difference, I was looking at Soul Mastery and darkest night looks like it might be a good choice, but I'd lose one of my AoE attacks. I'd like to get back to doing strike force missions again and the big groups tend to need the AoE.

    I went fort the full Gaussian in Rage for the bonuses, it's a great set, but the 5 slots it takes to get them is expensive in it's own right. Any other suggestions?

    I went fort the full Gaussian in Rage for the bonuses, it's a great set, but the 5 slots it takes to get them is expensive in it's own right. Any other suggestions?

    So I came up with two builds A defense one and a recharge one.

    I used Smashing Haymaker instead Kinetic Combats for cost reasons. If i can put a Kinetic set together I will but they're a bit expencive to buy.

  18. So I have a Fire/Energy tank and after 5 casual years I'm at lvl 47. I'm not really a fan of it but it's one of the first toons I ever made so it's got the nostalgia thing going for it. I find he drops too easy and the lack of any real AoE (just whirling hands and burn) kinda lacking. I've read that fire/nrg should be played more like a scrapper, which makes sense, true?

    So what are my slotting options? I know that IO sets can radically change the play style and playability of a toon. Do I go +reg/+recov/+rech? Or do I max on Defense as much as possible? Something else?

    Any suggestions?

    I found that dark watchers despair chance for -recharge. I'm kinda thinking good idea there. But we'll see.

    So for example 4 slots in CJ are for Zephyrs, also I've played with Mu mastery instead of Soul and find it much nicer. Electric fence + Ball + Static Discharge + Foot stomp give lots of AoE potential.

    I'm looking to Max out Defenses Fire/Nrg/Neg/Cold. Should I look at a different strategy? Max HP and Reg?

    I've been using Haymaker since i first rolled the toon and find the knockback a real pain. especialy with RttC. So I'm trying an ST attack chain that includes Boxing. The stun is nice, it lets me use the Stupefy set which gives some nice bonuses. Feel free to critique.

    Also how do i fix the code? I'm using the export feature using the official board option in Mids.

  23. Hey,

    I'm back to working on a SS/WP brute and I've hit a problem, Long Bow and Arachnos troops. CoT, Freaks, ect. are little to no problem for me. I'm fighting at -1 lvl +3 so teh minions are all blue to me, but as soon as i get a long bow mission or Arach's I get my but handed to me. Are they just that dangerous or is there something I'm not doing right? I just respect Toughness and weave in and it seems to have helped with the whole squishiness thing but LB still beat me down. I'm careful to pull them with taunt into a corner so they feed RttC as much as possible, but it's still depressingly common to have to hosp.

    I've just got to mid 40's and am only using SO's right now. I'm going to start investing in IO as they come along from now on.

    P.S. anybody know how to fix my mids export?

    Sorry for the delay. RL is very busy right now.

    I was looking to maximize Survivability. My understanding of how defense works is that and attack has two parts. Damage type (fire, energy, smashing...) and attack type (Range, AoE, melee) and both parts have to make it past each defense type separately. A ranged fire attack must succeed vs. Fire defense and Range defense. So i thought raising the attack type defenses would give me more bang for my buck. A fire defense of 35% is better than a Range defense of 20%, but only vs. Fire attacks. So I slotted to try and bring those defenses up the most.

    The six slots in Strength of Will were to get the recharge down. I thought that the special IO's with -recharge worked even if the regular -recharge IO's didn't. Am I wrong?

    I left HPT at the one slot because with 3 slots added to it it, 2 Res and 2 Heal, gives increase of a little over 1.36% to resistance over just the one Res IO and a whole 120 HP at lvl 50. I thought the three slots would better serve in attacks. I'm going to play with it a bit. I see that there are a couple of builds in this thread now and I'll take a look there. Maybe tweak them for myself.

    I'm not sold on the fighting pool. The increase in resistance for Smash/Leathal is nice, but weave seems kinda tame for a whole power selection.
