Help my poor Dark/Dark
Do you ever plan on using FA, or are you just using it for a set mule?
Would you be willing to work towards one Kin Combat set?
I wouldn't throw Oblits into Death Shroud as you get very little end redux in the set.
Fly doesn't need fly speed enhancements as it's currently capped at the default.
This isn't how I'd put together my Dark/Dark tank, but this is how I'd change up yours. Hopefully this gives you some ideas.

I'd be willing to work on Kin Combats a bit but this isn't a main toon for me. When I was IO'ing out my SS/WP Brute I bought three sets of Smash.H. with what i made from one KinCom recipe. So if I get them I'll use them, but this toon would be back in line a bit right now. Unless it gets more fun to play once fixed.
Death Shroud, that's a great catch. I usually default to Oblits when possible, but that's always been on click attack powers (blaster, defender type) thanks.
I didn't know that about Fly. That explains something about a defender I slotted that didn't seem much faster.
How would you build a dark/dark then? Honest question, I figured focus on S/L/M DEF as much as possible, then +Recov, then +Max HP. My experience with melee types is quite limited though, so if there are large gains to be made I'm more than interested. Really the only thing I'd question would be only one KB protections on a tank.

My builds tend to be closer to what Jebe the Pirate has in his Dark Tank guide. My i18 planned build is somewhere in this thread here. Still haven't decided on the toon's i19 build. Unfortunately it does include several Kin Combat sets. Right now even with mid 30's s/l defense the character does fairly well. There are a few builds in this thread that you should also take a look at if you haven't already, even though the also have Kin Combats in them.
I tend to focus more on typed defense bonuses for a dark tank as they typically take less slots to get the positional bonuses. So I wouldn't be as set on getting melee bonuses as you have. Personal preferences really. As always, YMMV.

I'd recommend a minimum of two -KB IOs (be they Steadfasts, Karmas or BotZs). Personally, my Dark tank uses three, but he is one of my main characters these days and I wanted him to have the same KB protection that the primary powers in other Tanker primaries give. You could probably get by with two for 95% of situations in PvE.
As for how to slot, I'd agree with Rangle that typed defense goals are easier to reach with fewer IOs and generally cheaper as well. If you do go the typed route, I'd strongly suggest focusing on Energy/NegEnergy as well as Smashing/Lethal since Energy damage is not well-resisted by Dark Armor. The alternative would be to go for a positionally-capped build but this is considerably more difficult and expensive.
While 'fun' is certainly subjective, I will say my Dark tanker is the one I enjoy the most out of all my tanks, so for my two cents I say stick it out and see how you like the character once you've put some work into him.

So, I reveiwed your DA/DM tank and made a few tweaks and Softcapped your E/N and about 40% to S/L. If you can manage it later on with 2 sets of Kinetic Combat you will have softcapped S/L. I slightly changed the build taking away Energy Mastery and replacing with Hover and Manuevers. Giving you a total of 12pts KB Protection and some status protection with the Winters Gift Unique (relatively cheap now)

"So I just tried to do a ITF with my Dark/Dark tank and.. I mean... it was... oh em gee...my poor, poor tank. I was reduced to the stupid little brother on the team. I'm glad I was on Protector were pug TF team are very forgiving and understanding. I performed so bad I was near ready to kick myself off the team. Fortunately there were two other tanks so we still pulled it off but geeze did I ever feel pathetic. Now I know that Cimorians are brutal but I have a sonic/sonic defender that does better than poor Technoire did last night."
Don't feel bad its because of the -def which eats right through any defense you have. Best thing to do is pop a large or medium or 2,3 small purples and jump in - combining inspirations into purples as you go along. Keep your +recharge high and keep 1 eye on your health bar and 1 finger on your Dark Regen button/bind and hope for the best.
I have an awesome DA/DM but she always turns orange to red when waist deep in Romans, luckily I have high resist and +recharge for Dark Regen and time it just right before I turn deep red. Mind you she tanks groups of Carnies and Malta at +4(x8) without breaking a sweat. Up against -def is another story.
Know your Tanks strength and their weaknesses and compensate accordingly.

Lady_Adura Here is my build it is accurate accept I took manueuvers (EndRed IO 50) and Cloak of Fear (IO 50 EndRed/To Hit Debuff) when Fitness became inherent. I like this particular build because she is well rounded. Her endurance lasts through fights with all the + recharge. You may also look at Dechs and Findulias builds they helped me out alot.

The problem with that (and it was something I looked at actually) is that it drops Dark Consumption from 45-ish endurance recovery to 30-ish endurance recovery per enemy hit. That is perfectly fine when I hit 3+ from the mob, but that isn't always an option. I know from play experience that Dark/Dark can drink blue like it is going out of style, so opted for the 45ish route.
Then again, with a Cardiac Core it could all be moot, and the toon is far from 50.
Ok, then I would suggest taking out one or both of those Hami-O's in Cloak of Fear and adding 1 or 2 slots of Acc/End to Dark Consumption. If you see my build you will notice that all of my powers are weighted toward endurance use/mod - because of this very reason. I rarely use CoF simply because it is such an endurance hog. If I find the need to use CoF, I will turn off Death Shroud. Death Shroud and CoF intefere with each other anyways and running both takes too much end.
Edit: Just notice on my build Level 14: Fly, the BotZ should be -4 knockback protection - oops, don't know how that slipped in there.
I'd recommend a minimum of two -KB IOs (be they Steadfasts, Karmas or BotZs). Personally, my Dark tank uses three, but he is one of my main characters these days and I wanted him to have the same KB protection that the primary powers in other Tanker primaries give. You could probably get by with two for 95% of situations in PvE.
As for how to slot, I'd agree with Rangle that typed defense goals are easier to reach with fewer IOs and generally cheaper as well. If you do go the typed route, I'd strongly suggest focusing on Energy/NegEnergy as well as Smashing/Lethal since Energy damage is not well-resisted by Dark Armor. The alternative would be to go for a positionally-capped build but this is considerably more difficult and expensive. While 'fun' is certainly subjective, I will say my Dark tanker is the one I enjoy the most out of all my tanks, so for my two cents I say stick it out and see how you like the character once you've put some work into him. |
So I just tried to do a ITF with my Dark/Dark tank and.. I mean... it was... oh em gee...my poor, poor tank. I was reduced to the stupid little brother on the team. I'm glad I was on Protector were pug TF team are very forgiving and understanding. I performed so bad I was near ready to kick myself off the team. Fortunately there were two other tanks so we still pulled it off but geeze did I ever feel pathetic. Now I know that Cimorians are brutal but I have a sonic/sonic defender that does better than poor Technoire did last night.
This is not to be a "Dark tanks suck" thread. It my build. I know that. I don't have tough on this build because the last time I respec'd him I was hoping that O.Gloom would hold the worst of it at bay and I could get away without it. I was wrong. Very wrong. So I've worked out a new build and was hoping for some input.
I can't afford KinCombats right now so the smashingH's instead. I like slotting Soul Drain for damage because when slotted it hits really hard. I like two Steadfast KB protection in a melee build because i find one isn't quite enough. Air Superiority, I really like that attack. It is a nice fill for the ST attack chain. Maul is nice but the End cost is kind of big to use without more than one target to hit. Also I like Flight as a travel power.
I'm not really sold on EnergyMaster App. If there is a better idea out there go for it. I just took it because it's useful with only a slot or two investment.
