I just logged in and the MOTD of both groups correctly reflects the schedule I posted above. I just changed it this morning, so maybe you saw last weeks schedule when it was still up.

I know people will be wondering after pointing out the numbers of how not voting for yourself can impact you why I did not vote for myself. When it came down to it, I just could not feel good doing it. Go ahead and say it "Wrong Number your a sucker".

If you are talking about my post, you are taking my post the wrong way. I am just pointing out how not voting for yourself when it is in the rules will impact your chances of winning.

BTW, I am one of the judges that helped Bubba and totally 100% supportive of the 2009 Player's Choice.

And hopefully it's not something along the lines of "these people are prominent in the forums, so they already have a lot going for them."
I feel pretty much the same as Bubba, disappointed I did not win, but not bitter. I was surprised that the Arc of the Year was taken from a category and not stand alone set of nominations as I thought it would be.

I am still hoping they Dev's Choice all the nominees too since they are all technically selected by the Devs. Well I can dream, can't I?

If you can't vote for the category at all then you don't take anything away from yourself. However if people are allowed to give themselves a free vote then there is little incentive to not do so for yourself.
If you don't vote yourself and other people in the same category do, you are down 2 points to the ones you don't vote for and 4 points for the one you pick as first and 3 for the one you pick as second.

I hate the idea of voting for myself, but one time in a contest at a convention I lost to the person I voted for who also voted for herself. Had she voted for anyone but herself I would have won. It was annoying and it made me feel like a sucker. Classic nice guys(or girls) finish last.

I prefer the rules were that you can't vote for yourself, but you can.

  7. Great time as usual! Today we played:

The Monster Hop by Big Daddy Vio Arc ID: 27861

    Escalation #6143 @FemFury

TV Casualties! by @Toxa Arc ID: 6777

The first two arcs are Players Choice Nominees and the last arc TV Casualties! was a random button selection that turned out to be pretty darn fun.

  11. Of course the Arc of the Year had to be nominated in Bubba's and my category...lol Well, I was seriously happy Death to Disco! made the final nominees and feel really proud about that even if I did not win. A sincere congrats to all the winners.

  12. Thanks Backfire for running team 2 and posting the Player's Choice DO Nominees you guys ran. The SO team ran the following arcs:

    Teen Phalanx Forever! #67335 @PW

This one was very well received by the entire team. Having played it before myself I was not surprised by the reaction as it is a very entertaining arc.

Polar Emergence neutral Government User Interface Network (PENGUIN) #29205 @Tubbius

People were mixed on this arc. Some clearly loved while others, not so much.

We are teaming again tomorrow at noon EST.

  13. First off, thanks very detailed review and suggestions! It is a good thing, no matter if I agree or not, to get detailed feedback from someone actually trying to help improve one of my arcs and not just be negative.

    On to your suggestions...

    Quote:
.... I found it pretty difficult to follow, but I think that's more a choice of medium (the Television).
Yeah the Television is an usually contact and not the clearest to follow which is why, as you point out, I kept the mission parameters clear. That said, the arc is not supposed to be clear cut and I realize this makes it different from a lot of the arcs out there, but it is intended as not the normal "this is the bad guy, this is the good guy" dynamic. Also, there is one major point about this arc that, when people get it, usually makes everything fall into place (more on that later).

    Quote:
Likewise, while there was a sense of rising action.. it wasn't really intense.. I mean it's a quirky, lighthearted arc (and it accomplished that very well), so I will hand it some leeway.
I think you hit it on the head, it is intended to be lighthearted and quirky. Thinking about it all of my arcs and most of the characters in them fall into that category. They are personal stories rather than world sweeping or big picture ones.

Specific feedback (spoilers, intended mostly to help the author):
    Quote:
I mentioned above that I would talk about the one issue I had with the custom group.. and that is Blappy. Specifically, her powers.. more specifically, how overpowered she is.
I have to say I really disagree. In 135 plays on live and many on test (I first made this arc during open beta) I have only had two people tell me they failed the last mission. As I am sure you have with your arcs, I have played this arc many times with all sorts of characters. My personal yardstick for a baddie being too hard is "Do I need to use a Shivan to beat them?" I have never had to pull one out myself to beat Blappy. Blappy is the Big Bad of the arc and she is only an EB set to hard/hard. I don't feel that is overpowered though as with any enemy, she is much harder to beat with some builds.

    Quote:
.....I didn't feel like I had a vested interest in saving Blappy, because I didn't know who Blappy was.....
Here is that "one thing" that unlocks it all (wanted to wait till the spoiler section). The arc is NOT really about Blappy, it is Bright Angel/Sideshow Sally's story. Blappy, while the element that strings it all together, is not the main character. You are suppose to be unsure and maybe even conflicted over your role in the story.

    Quote:
One thing that also stuck out to me was the second mission, the warehouse. First, this is a heroic arc, so it seems like you are in Paragon, and even watching Paragon TV.. so how do you get you get to the Rogue Isles to get to this warehouse (it's over 50 miles offshore)?[
The arc is recommend for level 30+ so I assume most characters have a travel power by then. I don't know, I don't see this as an issue.

    Quote:
.... I don't see how the RIP would actually be nice to anyone, they're supposed to be incredibly corrupt, from what little information we have on them. So given the location and corruption issues, I think it would make more sense for it to be a warehouse in Paragon...
I don't think the RIP character's portrayed were portrayed as being especially nice. In a way I see your point, but ultimately feel it is a low impact "issue" .

    Quote:
First, this arc seems to take place over the course of a few hours at most in terms of what you are doing and needing to have Blappy back for air time. However, Bright Angel's gradual transformation from hero to villain.. hairstyle change, and then costume, seem like they are taking place over the course of several days, at least.
This is a very interesting point and one I really need to think about. It actually makes me wonder if I cleaned this up if it will help keep people on track with the story easier. How about this.....the first mission starts right after the Blappy show ended? That places all of the events taking place in one 24 hour period. Is that still too short? I am thinking that might be ok considering this is a comic book world.

    Quote:
Second.. Okay so Bright Angel has grown to hate Blappy.... really hate Blappy. So what I don't understand is why she joined the Injustice Legion with Blappy, becoming part of the same villain group. That struck me as very odd, though I didn't notice at first, it dawned on me later. Seems she wouldn't want to join the same group as Blappy considering she is practically implying she wants to do away with her entirely.
Originally I had her in her own VG, but with the I16 changes I wanted to preserve exp for players so I moved her into the group. My story logic for this is that Sideshow Sally is unaware of Blappy's new status in the IL and will no doubt blow a gasket when she finds out that she has once again been outshone by Blappy. Side Note - When I did this I thought it might be a great starting point for a sequel.

    End spoilers.

About the map in mission 4. I had a map that was perfect and which the mission was designed for. When a recent patch dropped it suddenly became unavailable forcing me to find another. I was not happy about this at all and had to find the best fit I could for the mission. I think it is "ok", but the map change definitively detracted from that mission.

Again, thanks very much for the review.

  14. Thanks all! I was blown away to see Death to Disco! made the nomination list. You can ask my husband, I was bouncing off the walls when I found out. It is really cool to see other Justice people made the cut too. Congratulations to my fellow Justice peeps Mekk and FemFury.

    WN
  15. I am hoping they give the winners a special listing like "2009 Winner Best Hero Arc" and all the others get a Dev's Choice.

    WN
  16. Death to Disco! only has 3 and 6 though like all mad scientists Sauer does not consider himself mad only misunderstood

Congrats and good luck to all the nominees.

I may still show for the team on Sunday (my one window of time that lines up with yours); for all I know I might be sick of it by then.
I don't think we will have that issue on the weekend, but ToTing or whatever you want to do with your character is up to you. Mine I would estimate are 75%+ leveled in MA, but I did not resist the 2x weekend to help me reach SO level.

  19. We had low turnout last night which I suspect had a lot to do with the Halloween event dropping. We played:

    Cutthroat Competition #10171 @Frozen Northman

    Title: Mission: Awesome
    Arc ID: 337438
    Creator’s Global Name: @Dr. Aeon
    Mission Count: 4
Notes – Help Captain Dynamic defeat the Great Face's evil plans... The true author is Rooster Teeth.

Lowdown – Captain Dynamic, of the popular videos you no doubt have seen, needs your help or actually he really doesn't, but you can bask in his awesomness up close and personal! The main villain (no surprise) is The Great Face and his super annoying henchmen that you will be sick of before the end of mission one.

Funny Level – Grandpa can be boring most of the time, but once in awhile he says something really funny.

Fun Level - As much fun as paying full price at the movies to see something you should have just waited for the DVD to see.

Let’s up it to 11! – Rebalance the customs and better yet make them more diverse. I am betting this arc has plenty of space left so why not put it to good use? Set the mission level to 25+ since lower it will be too hard and there is no reason this can not go up to 50.

Overall Rating – There are some real good laughs in this arc, but they are too few and spread out. Still, if you like the videos the characters in this arc are based on it is worth playing the arc. 3 stars
