  1. I generally only two slot Active Defense for recharge and like mentioned two slot it early. While it may not overlap perfectly I rarely run into issues with it being down. And honestly, the one thing that aggravates me most about my shield scrapper is blowing a well timed BU/shield charge/whirling sword combo with an AD reanimation tick. I can only imagine how much of a pain it would be to have it three slotted and doublestacked and firing off and messing up all of my attack chains.

When you get to the late 30's, early 40's it's possible to hit that defense softcap pretty easily and it can be done on the cheap. Then when you get close to 50 you can respec again and make an even stronger build that can both hit the defense softcap, remove the need for parry making a better attack chain, and fit in other powers that will make you just that much more uber. And I never grabbed Aid Self either, like mentioned above, a few greens cover you quite well and will save you two slots when picking powers. And to be honest, with the new Ninja Run from the new add-on pack, I'm content with just taking combat jumping and then no travel power. And sword and board + ninja run looks pretty awesome.
  2. Thanks for all the input guys, I've cleaned things up and made a new build. Another question, since I blew all my cash on the kinetic combats, the LoTG +recharges are definitely out. Whats going to be the best attack chain for me. Since I chose every attack + boxing, I've got plenty to chose from, but with endurance woes and underslotting, I've got to look for the best.

Thanks again, and here's another go with the build:

It's not so bad teaming wise, especially with a kin, but I tend to run low none the less. Plus, I had all the powers I wanted and had two slots left so I went with it and said "Meh, never have to worry about that!" lol

And yes, I skipped a travel power because it is a natural themed toon. With Ninja run/swift/and sprint going, I have no problems navigating the long distances.

Even though I team, I tend to like to build my toons as if they were soloers so that I'm not relying on other people to keep me alive. If I'm on a team with buffs, it's just more gravy. But if I'm not, I'm still ok. I do a lot of PuG'ing so I never know what the other people on my team are bringing.

As to CP Vs FA, I didn't realize FA provide to hit debuff as well. I have never used either, and just saw on Mids that FA only provided a 5% to hit buff unslotted and didn't think it was that worth it. But, now that I know, I'll swap that back around. Thanks!

Yea, with all those Oblits, you're AoE attacks must suck down the endurance fast.

Well then, if you like the defense, I'd try to two slot BF with Rectified Reticle and also pick up Focused Accuracy and do the same with it. That nets you another 3.75 in S/L defense. I wouldn't run FA much though, it's the ultimate endurance hog weighing in at .78/sec. unslotted. That would only compound your endurance woes (hard to believe a Wp toon could do that even with PP). =) I'd also look into three slotting stam and QR with performance shifters and the performance shifter +end as mentioned above. That would get you +hp's and also +run speed which would be an added bonus for you.
  4. Overkill, not necessarily a bad thing, but in my opinion you're trying to hard on defense and endurance. If you team mostly, then working that hard on defense isn't really required. I'd drop the kinetic combats and grab some Crushing Impacts. That will get you more HP's (a good thing for a regen based toon to have), better accuracy and a faster recharge. I'm not even sure about those Oblits, you could probably do better with a mix of eradications and sciroccos. And lastly, is there really a need for PP with both Stamina and QR? I never saw my endurance bar move much on my WP scrapper on his fast run to 50. I'm guessing this is a natural concept character so you've avoided travel powers, so something like the Pyre mastery line would be out. I've always liked SoW and the Leadership pool, but thats just me.

I'll put together a build later if I get a chance, good luck to you though, definitely should be a fun combo.
  5. Ok, how about this, taking into account all the suggestions you guys had:

  6. Thanks for all the input guys, I just might be able to salvage this guy and get him to 50!
  7. So how about this then, I've picked up the body mastery pool for better endurance management and some regen/recovery, four slotted my resistances and thrown in some kinetic combats. I don't have any of the LoTG +recharges, those might be just a bit out of my reach.

  8. I'll throw a couple on the list I plan on getting rid of:

    Silver Spartan
    Poker Joker
    Buck Master
  9. ...please help me clean it up...please!

For concept reasons I created a Fiery Aura / Battleaxe tanker, I know, I know, but please stick with me. I've somehow managed to level him up to level 40 and I now need to try and IO him up as he desperately needs a boost and a good beefing up. I've got some resources, so short of purples I have the means to get some good IO sets. On hand I already have three Aegis sets for my resists, a couple -kb enhancements to plug those holes, a steadfast unique, kismet unique and regenerative tissues +regen. I've tried a couple different builds and respecced many times, but I just can't seem to make him stronger, tougher and able to dish out some damage. To be blunt, I've made a real mess of him. I know that the combo is rare, but I'm hoping someone with any experience in fire tanking can give me some help. And my last go round with Battleaxe was a nightmare as it sucked down more endurance than I could generate, and consume didn't help near enough.

At any rate, here's my last build to start with, I'm open for any changes in power selection and IO slotting.

  10. I love fire melee, it's my favorite scrapper primary and it sounds like your set on it.

To pair up shield defense with it I'm sure would be the best option. I have a level 50 shield scrapper and shield charge is just that fun. And despite many saying its expensive to softcap, it can be done cheaply, and once you do it you'll be nigh on unstoppable.

That being said, I wouldn't be so quick to overlook willpower. My FM/WP scrapper was my fastest and easiest toon to date to get to 50. I basically leveled up (pre difficulty slider) in hazard zones jumping from one large spawn to the next solo. RttC draws them in, then fire sword circle knocks them down, then pick off those still standing with greater fire sword and your golden, wash rinse repeat. And doing all that without hardly noticing your green or blue bar move at all. And if you can get your defenses up into the 30% range and then add that to your incredible regen factor, you need only carry a couple big greens to offset any big damage bursts. And you're strong right out of the box, no waiting till the 40's to get your defenses up and shield charge fully slotted. RttC at 16, FSC at 18 and then QR at 20 and you're off to the races!
  11. This is my first go redside and I have to think I've made a good jump into it with a very solid AT and powerset selection. Since slotting spin, RttC, FH and QR I've been unstoppable. At 38 I'm not quite sure where to go next though, I have zero experience with the patron pools, but still see some other options out there that could help me as well. Maybe the Leadership pool for more defense with maneuvers and maybe more damage with assault and/or to hit with tactics? Endurance probably won't be an issue so I could add more toggles. Or maybe look at some more attacks to go with spin through the patron pools? At any rate, any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's my build to date, I'm quite proud of the sets I've grabbed up till now.

    This.

Out of the box I haven't leveled a stronger toon of any AT. I rarely see my health or endurance bars move and my only difficulty is finding enough enemies to "spin" with. The only let down is I'm not as happy with T8 and 9 powers of both sets.
  13. I'm proud to say I'm a member of Lone S.T.A.R. on Victory, and we just happen to have Douglas Shuler (Lightspeed as we know him) among our ranks. He's not a native Texan, but we claim him anyway.

Anyways, this was our SG roll call he did for us a while back. I'm Cherokee Sun, middle row two over.

and for reference, Cherokee Sun in action:
  14. Just to throw in a different spin, and since your looking for a badass, up close and personal fighting vamp, you might try an Axe or Warmace / DA Brute. I'm currently reading the Sookie Stackhouse / True Blood from HBO series of books and one of the main vampires is a thousand year old viking vampire named Erik. And Warmace, there are alot of neat maces to chose from, maybe go with a bone or shovel. Just a thought.
  15. I'm curious as well, anyone try out this combo? How is Electric armor stacking up to the powerhouses of Shields and Super Reflexes?
  16. I think McFly touched all the bases. I hit 50 on my ninja themed DB/SR a week before the booster came out. It's definitely a fun set, SR is strong once you get yourself close to the softcap, and I really enjoyed the combo system of dual blades. I'd recommend taking the powers for the AV and sweep combos and kicking them off with blinding feint. I generally rush in to a large spawn (play at +2 / X8) and open up with the sweep combo, then run a couple AV's and then alternate back to the sweep again to keep everyone on their butts. Keep a healthy supply of greens for when those odd hits do land and you'll be golden.
  17. Hard to argue against shields, but the OP was building a ninja themed toon...

I'd go DB/WP, DB is a pretty set and willpower is tough from the start to the finish line.
  18. My new level 32 Claws/WP brute has been running -1/X8 w/bosses & heroes since level 20. You sissies need to step it up a notch and bring your A-game, you're giving brutes a bad name with your low/safe settings.
  19. Good to hear, glad your new build is working for you.

If I were you, I'd start looking for the Multi-Strikes for your PBAoE powers (that should be four sets). It was more than a month ago that I was working on IO'ing an alt and bought a couple sets of those. Put low bids on the recipes you need (X4) and then wait for them, it shouldn't take more than a few days. It felt like some of those where actually cheaper than the common IO's at the time (double Xp weekend might have flooded the market though). Each of those Multi-Strikes will raise your melee defense 1.88%, so four sets will get you closer to 40% defense, which should be very noticeable.

I'm not sure how attached you are to Recall Friend, but if you group any, Grant Cover is a great power and also gives you added +Def Debuff which can be critical in the late game for a shielder.
  20. Bah, who'd want to create an uber scrapper who can get owned by an AR/Dev blaster?
  21. Nice, I hadn't ever heard of someone doing a Predator tribute, I'd love to see how it turned out. Screenshots please! Do they have fishnet panty hose for male toons?

Like Jack said, that build will use endurance pretty quickly if you're in steady combat, so I would definitely go for the PerfShifter Chance for Endu if you can in PP and Stamina.

Hey, HJ asked for defense and cheap, I think I delivered.

And it's a tested build, I've run it, I know it chews up endurance and has nowhere near the recharge needed to be uber. But it's also a good starting point, if you can afford some nicer IO's and some of the super expensive unique's then it will definitely open up better ways to make it perform to the max. In my current build I'm working towards LoTG's, ToD's and Oblit's. I've got the nifty performance shifter in stamina and a couple +regen and +recovery uniques slotted as well, so I'm starting to feel better about possibly dropping CP/PP in favor of something else. But you ask for cheap...I can do cheap.

BTW thanks a bunch for providing that build!
Yeah, sadly no room for OWTS, and I'm one who actually like the power and use it whenever its up on both of my shielders. But you asked for cheap, and without putting some nicer IO sets in there that boost defense (namely Touch of Death and Obliteration 6-slots) you're going to have to get manuevers instead to hit the softcap. And on the same note, I believe you'll really be wanting physical perfection to help with the endurance issues, BS and SD are noteworthy endurance hogs. If you could afford some of the End Mod and recovery uniques it would go a long way to helping you get away with just Stamina. Your mileage may differ, transfer your guy to test and run with and without CP/PP in your build.

For me though, I kept with this build and now run missions with the difficulty slider cranked up to +2/X8 and he's a beast. And I worry little about health and stamina and worry more about how quick I can get Shield Charge and my AOE/Arc's to recycle faster. Best of luck to you.

And one more tip, you've got a good farmer there and you need more inf to really get more out of your shielder. I mentioned it in my first post, head to AE and find you a mission that works for you and gives good XP and tickets. Cash all those tickets in on bronze 10-14 bags, I generally make around 1400 tickets a run and out of that many tickets I generally get 2-3 of the really good recipes that in turn sell for 10-20 mil. Not to mention that in that 10-14 group are some good recipes you might want to keep and throw into your build, the Kismet accuracy and Steadfast unique come to mind, seems like I got one of the regen uniques as well.
  24. Here's how I'd do it, on the cheap side. Main sets that the build focuses on is Serendipities for defense and Multi-Strikes for PBAoE's, both sets are cheap and I think even use common salvage making them cheap to make. You'll have to pony up and get the Steadfast Unique, thats gonna cost you, you'd probably have better luck doing some AE missions for tickets and rolling bronze 10-14 bags untill you get one. The Gaussians set is kind of pricey these days as well. Shop smartly though, avoid "buy now" prices and you should be able to come in on a budget.

For power choices I respecced out of Parry, I didn't want it in my attack chain and I hit the softcap easily enough without it. I grabbed Manuevers and then went with the Body Mastery choices to help with endurance issues (since you won't be able to afford the recovery uniques).

  25. If your not loaded, then those ToD's and Oblit's are going to be hard to get if you don't already have them. And honestly, you're not getting as much out of them as you would on a toon who would be going for positional defence over the typed defence you are working towards. You'd get just as much mileage out of smashing haymakers, kinetic combats would be ideal, but they are rare and pricey. Also, I'd three slot tough and MoB with Aegis', and maybe move that Steadfast unique into HPT so it doesn't get detoggled. All the +recovery you are shooting for is kind of overkill, you are a /WP toon with QR and Stam. And lastly, I just really like SoW for all it adds at a quick recast with little crash, I notice the difference when it's up and down, but that just may be me.
