Yea, the Kinetic Combats are geared more for soft capping typed defense(Slashing/Lethal/Fire/Cold/Energy/Negative) rather than the position defenses(melee/ranged/AOE) you are working on. They'll be expensive and really overkill. Softcapping is 45% so you could come down a bit from where you are, and definitely get more mileage out of Mako's or ToD's. If you were using Divine Avalanche in your attack chain, you could get away with 40% positional defenses, but leaving it out and going for 45% nets the same end result and probable an attack chain with better DPS. And I can't help but think one more slot in build up and you could get the full bonuses of Gaussains, which is a real nice defense bonus. And I'm pretty sure you can't slot that +stealth into sprint, although I may be wrong.

EDIT- Just noticed, you might want to move one of those recharge reductions from Conserve Power to Practiced Brawler. Two slotting it makes it permenant and keeps you off your butt. -
I've got a Fire/Axe and an Ice/Ice tanker thats been sitting in the mid 40's for years now. Cool concepts, awesome looks, respectable resists and defenses, well slotted with IO's...I just can't seem to play them for more than a few minutes. Going from any of my army of scrapper alts back to the tankers just doesn't work, seems like it takes forever for them to kill things.

Mine was in the 10-30 million range, with the ToD set being the biggest part of that. You can easily kit out your defenses with the Serendipities, your PBAoE's with Multi-Strikes and start working on the Mako's for your melee's for under 5 mil. The Scirocco set, the two piece Universal Travel set and the Achilles proc will be another step up in cost, but if you shop wisely for them they won't be that bad. There's no way around the ToD set cost, fully 6-slotted it boosts melee defense making it number one on most average builds, so it is in high demand, if you can do without you'll save yourself some cash.
But like Neo suggested, play the bronze bonus recipe bag game at AE trying to get that Steadfast unique and you'll likely get a few really good selling recipes along the way. It's really not that hard to get a fast 10-30 million by cashing in tickets on either rare salvage or the chance for a good recipe. -
And here's my build I was just working on last night, you'll have to substitute your katana for my dual blades, but the end result is about the same. And with your Divine Avalanche you shouldn't need to hit 45% to softcap your defenses, I think 40% should work.
My DB/SR guy is at level 40 so I broke him out last night and went to WW to put some IO's in him like I previously suggested for you. He's also a natural concept, so I only took fly at 50 because it worked into his concept, Dragon Prince, kind of a Samurai who can put on a mystical ring and turn into a dragon-kin. For theme purposes I also grabbed caltrops and shuriken. At any rate, like I mentioned previously, the Serendipity three slotted cost me less than level 35-45 SO's or crafted enhancements, and also used fewer slots this way. Likewise the Multi-Strikes for my PBAOE's were cheaper than SO slotting. The most expensive part of my set turned out to be the ToD I needed to cap my melee defense, you might not even need it since you won't have as far to go.
Here ya go: This is me soft capped at 45.4% melee, and 45.1% ranged and AOE. Relatively cheap build.

I'm guessing for concept reasons, you know those natural scrappers! Still, I'm with Laevateinn, grab hurdle and combat jumping. You'll get around town a bit faster with the bunny hop non-super travel and you'll get more mileage out of CJ with it's low endurance and defense built in.

A couple notes on starting to throw in some IO's into your build:
There are some great sets out there that go cheap and allow you to save enhancement slots by using them. The defensive sets could use Serenditpity's, they are dirt cheap and you could get away with three slotting them and getting good defensive and endurance reduction coverage, four slots to really max it out. For Resistance sets, Reactive Armor is cheap and four slots goes a long ways and has some nice bonuses. For your melee attacks Mako's work nice and are fairly cheap and have some nice bonuses when fully slotted. And finally your AoE attacks could use Multi-Strikes, these are super cheap and also have nice bonuses.
Checking into WW's and shopping wisely can benefit you greatly when it comes to IO sets. And I've found in some cases, some cheap IO sets can be easier and cheaper to make/get than the level 40-50 crafted enhancements and SO's. -
Hmmmmmmm...that brings up an interesting angle I hadn't considered,a Claws/SR Brute. I'm thinking on paper /WP would make more sense for wading into large groups and creating havoc. What does /SR really bring to the table that would make it possibly better than /WP?

In true scrapper fashion, patience is not a strong suit of mine, I just need to wait for I16.
On my previous WP scrapper my playstyle would have me jumping in the middle of a large spawn and letting RTTC fill up and then just go crazy. With the added hp's and the ability to build up fury so fast, and then the fury further making the claws attacks hit THAT much harder, seems like a win win to me. -

I've been playing CoH for a couple years now and I've yet to get a villain over level 20, yet have a full stable of heroes. When I heard that I16 would herald the arrival of the claws set to Brutes I was very excited, even have a name and concept ready to go. Upon thinking on it more, I'm starting to debate if I shouldn't just go ahead and roll out a Claws/WP scrapper. It's what I know and enjoy, and it would be a new and unplayed set for me.
If you had it to do, what would you pick? Is there an edge given to one AT or the other, fury over crits or something likewise. I keep thinking fury building will be fun, and the added hitpoints for the Brute would just make him even more unstoppable. Add in the upcoming Going Rogue expansion and I could play either AT on whatever side I wanted.

I know nothing about Claws as I have not made a claws scrapper yet, but I plan on making a claws/WP Brute when I-16 goes live. So I have been playing around with Mids alot looking at how I want to build my next alt. I also have a level 50 FM/WP scrapper, so I know how Willpower handles. My 50 WP scrapper was a beast, I had no problems leveling him up, and mainly solo'd hazard zones spawns by rushing in and letting RttC fill up and hitting fire sword cirlce over and over (Pre AE leveling at it's finest). My health and endurance bars hardly ever moved but I'd keep a couple big greens and blues around just in case.
At any rate, this is what I hope to do on the upcoming claws/WP brute. I'm pretty happy with the build and somehow managed to softcap typed defenses to make him even more unkillable. This build gets you to 46.1% S/L, 40.5% F/C and 45.2% defense to E/N while still holding a 52.6% resistance to S/L. That may be a bit of overkill in the defense department, but I think layered with the regen and resists should make a very sturdy scrapper.

I've come pretty close to softcapping on a couple WP builds. The key is to go typed defense rather than the positional ones. That route I've been able to hit the 45% mark on S/L and E/N and around 40% on F/C. The big sacrifice is you have to 4-slot kinetic combats in all your attacks including a couple mule slots of boxing and brawl, this can hurt the strength of your attacks plus all the nice IO bonuses from some of the bigger sets. I'll post a build I recently did in a bit.

This will be my attempt at a Claws brute when I-16 hits. I love scrappers and haven't played anything redside yet, so I'll be starting from scratch and I have no idea how the Black Maket prices are over there. So keeping that in mind, here's my build trying to stay as cheap as I know how blueside, the only real costs should just the the Steadfast unique and probably the universal travels.
I was able to hit 45.9% defense on Smashing/Lethal, 40.1% on Fire/Cold and 44.8% on Energy and Negative.

I noticed you mentioned your on a budget and can't afford purples, me neither and thats where I like to play with mids and do some serious shopping at Wentworths for the best deals. If I'm understanding you correctly you've already got slotted the IO's in your build, so you've got some great sets to build on already. I've given up on Obliterations, LoTG's and Kinetic Crashs as they are going for way to much on the market. You can get just about as good mileage out of Multi-Strikes, Serendipities and Mako's for a fraction of the cost.
One other thing I've noticed, you've really gone crazy with the slotting of endurance and healths and even endurance reductions in your attacks aren't needed as a Willpower toon. I've got QR three slotted, but keep Fast Healing, Health and Stamina all two slotted and my blue bar never moves. And I sure wouldn't have wasted the Performance Shifter on this guy, give that to a Shield Defense alt. And Conserve Power is a bit of overkill isn't it? I know your going for ET, so maybe slot up some lazerbeam eyes if you have to. I went with the Leadership pool instead and really like combat jumping, but thats just me and I understand sticking with a concept.
And one last thing, when putting together IO sets in mids, look a little more into getting those defenses up. Parry and good use of purple and orange insp's will get you to the dance, but if you can get a little closer to the defense softcaps (not that easy to do on WP) you'll be unstoppable. -

Like you, I recently dinged my first 50 and he too was a Fire/WP scrapper. I never had any problems with EB's, to be honest I never really had a problem with anything, the combo is just a beast. And I took scorch and slotted it and love it.
I'll be back with a Mid's build later, but I didn't invest heavily in him (my first high level toon) and I still felt fairly sturdy and dished out some serious pain. I know I had mostly 6-slot sets in the attacks of Mako's, ToD's and Scirrocco's so nothing major. I used Air Superiority and Fly for my travels, and went the Leadership route at 47 and 49. I'm kind of scratching my head at you picking up Conserve Power, with QR and Stamina my end bar never moves even with all the defensive, fighting and leadership toggles.
I've recently seen a post around here concerning soft-capping typed defenses in a willpower toon, but haven't followed through with it in game yet (my new focus is a level 45 BS/SD scrapper who is really going through the expensive IO's). -
Thanks for the help Chaos String, I've followed your suggestions and rounded out my scrapper quite well. The change to slice was noticeable, I actually fire that off quite often when running into large groups. It definitely didn't need the Shield Breaker set that would not enhance damage. Makes me sad though, that Shield Breaker set is awful nice and super cheap.
One thing though, when I modified Mids to show zero allies on Phallanx Fighting it then set my defense value to 0 with no allies around. I should still get the 3.75% base defense correct? -
I've searched the forums as best I could and combed through the guides and posts for everything I could find for my level 41 Broadsword / Shield Defense scrapper. Now I'm looking for some input on how this build might work out for me. First, about me:
-I'll likely solo the rest of the way to 50, stay out of AE, enjoy the story arcs and keep away from large groups that makes my old computer cry.
-I've got some serious budget issues. Definitely no purples, and even as much as I'd like to kit myself out with full Touch of Deaths, Detonations, Universal Travels and LoTG's, I'm basically gonna be restricted to Mako's, Multi-Strikes, Shield Breakers and Serendipities.
-I did get luck and snap myself a Performance Shifter +Endurance and the Steadfast +defense uniques. Go me!
At any rate, I've tried to get my soft-capped positional defenses by 41 and came pretty close even on my budget. This is my first toon to the 40's so I have little experience of what to expect from here out. Any idea's or suggestions are welcome, I hope this will shore up my toon making him as durable as possible and hopefully having what it takes to dish out some pain and maybe stand up to an AV or two.
