First Scrapper -- Thematic Approach

Hello there scrapper community, I come seeking advice on what I hope to be a very different build for me to try. My aim is to make a natural ( no really ! ) Sword Saint who pays homage to the old (think 70's) Martial Arts Movie swordsman. The name is borrowed from Final Fantasy just to appease my daughter
A few things:

1) I'm not rolling in influence, but I have several of the pricier IO's both numinas in this build and the regenerative tissue for instance. I have also have the LoTG recharges on hand along with the +3% Def steadfast. Lastly I have the celerity + stealth.

2) No travel power. I've gone the natural route before and it's not that bad. I have hedged my bet however with plenty of run speed built into this along with the obligatory leaping that all proper 70's martial artists possessed

3) Thanks to the kind tanker community I've begun to grasp positional defense. Have I worked that into the build sufficiently for this AT?

4) I hate running out of end and having toggles drop. I've put in a lot of recovery but is it enough ? I kept the recharge to 115% so as not to bugger up my stamina, and finally I have conserve power just in case.

5) As you can see I didn't take divine avalanche. Was this a mistake, and, do I have enough damage as is to hold my own on a team?

The Kinetic Combats will be expensive, and they are primarily typed defense. With Fighting pool, you can almost certainly squeeze out enough melee defense that you don't need them.

How badly do you need the +Regen? Remember that the +Regen uniques in health are boosted by enhancements in that power. If you want a high regeneration build, you should consider heavily slotting Health to get the most out of them.

Let me try and tweak this for you, just a few minutes...

Yea, the Kinetic Combats are geared more for soft capping typed defense(Slashing/Lethal/Fire/Cold/Energy/Negative) rather than the position defenses(melee/ranged/AOE) you are working on. They'll be expensive and really overkill. Softcapping is 45% so you could come down a bit from where you are, and definitely get more mileage out of Mako's or ToD's. If you were using Divine Avalanche in your attack chain, you could get away with 40% positional defenses, but leaving it out and going for 45% nets the same end result and probable an attack chain with better DPS. And I can't help but think one more slot in build up and you could get the full bonuses of Gaussains, which is a real nice defense bonus. And I'm pretty sure you can't slot that +stealth into sprint, although I may be wrong.

One thought - instead of putting 6 slots in focused fighting for the Red fortunes ranged def put 2 Blessing of the zephyr in combat jumping - you get a better bonus to ranged def (3.13 vs 2.5) and it takes a lot less slots. Then you can put 2 or 3 LoTG in each of your def toggles to get +10% regen (with 2) and +1.5% HP (with 3). Thats how I softcapped ranged on my dm/sr - it is a lot less slot heavy and BotZ sets are not that expensive as long as you avoid the -KB one.

She is currently level 46 and has been softcapped to melee and ranged since L39 and she just hit the softcap to AE at L46 when I got all 6 razzle dazzle in boxing. She has 261% regen and rarely runs out of end. Obviously with katana you will have different attack powers to take and slot up but that should give you more options, since I only have a couple of AE attacks and had to push up lucky to edge out those last points of AE def as I didn't think it was worth picking up an eradication set and I don't like putting Gaussian's in Soul drain - as it needs to hit, where build up doesn't so an attack set actually makes sense (and the damage boost doesn't hurt, even if it is only every 60 seconds).

OK, here's my attempt. I kept your power choices and order.

Defense is 47/48.8/47. It has 3% less recovery and 1.5% less HP, but you gain 10% more recharge and now have 304% regen, as well as better-slotted Hasten. Endurance consumption is the same, move and jump speeds are almost the same. I think it has better DefDebuff resistance since the passives are better slotted. It ought to be cheaper as well since you are not buying Impervium Armors and Kinetic Combats.

I swapped out your Kinetic Combats for Crushing Impacts. I also added a Achiles Heel proc in Gambler's Cut; the debuff is really good against single hard targets, but you can ignore it if price or market availability is a problem.

Combat Jumping only needs one slot; the 2% speed from Springfoot is barely noticeable. Practiced Brawler only needs one slot as it is comfortably permanent even with Hasten turned off.

Like Whisky Jack says, 5-slotting Gaussian's is a waste. I 6-slotted it for you (you can move the set to Focused Acc if you prefer; I prefer the proc to fire when I use build up and not randomly). (And yes, you can slot stealth IOs in Sprint, it works. )

Gaussian's Rech/End will be impossible to find since it is a Pool C. You should start placing bids very early if you don't already have it yet.

I took some of the things I had done in my DM/SR scrapper and rearranged things in your previous build - this might actually be a cheaper build to put together as the crushing impact sets are not that expensive and you don't need an eradication set (which IS very expensive):

This build has 344% regen vs the 249% in the previous build and I actually overdid the def - you could drop razzle dazzle in boxing and move the slots elsewhere (or put a stupify set for more recharge - 6.25% from that will let you skip one of those LoTG +recharge IO's). Plus I was able to slot 2 Achilles Heel -def procs in GC and FS - both good attacks for debuffing targets, GC gets your single target and FS can hit a large amount of targets. This should increase your overall damage output considerably.

You guys rock ! Thanks very much. I have a lot to mull over. The celerity in sprint has been a trick of mine for awhile. Sometimes I don't want to be invisible ( pure costume design vanity at play here ... it's sad really. . . )

With the Katana, I'm wondering will the speed of my attack chain be fairly slow for a scrapper? I currently play a WP / Stone tank and am able to constantly attack. When I'm a melee player, that's just how I like to roll.. waiting on an attack to recharge makes me nuts unless it's a end all be all kinda attack ( like seismic for my Tanker.. it goes off every other attack cycle in my rotation but the other attacks cycle fast enough to fill that one rotation without pause ) I guess I'm an ADHD player :P I nearly took WP claws because I know WP very well and know claws is hyper quick. I'm just a thematic junkie and this idea has been in my head awhile.

One last question, if you please. From what I gather what I did was essentially correct, just not efficient ? I'd like to know if I'm grasping concepts

why are you sloting def/endred IO's into the passives ? the pure def IO's will grant twice the value of the split ones, and passives dont require any endurance at all

Good catch, thank you Morbid. Chalk that up to my not knowing the powers of the AT. I'm building this at work ( shhhh ! ) and since I'm unfamiliar with the set thought they were all toggles.

also, while divine avalanche will become redundant for an SR in the later levels, it is still extremely useful durring the leveling up process, your better off geting it as soon as you can and then respecing out of it when you reach a constant 45%+ def in melee without divine avalanche
