Here's my "guide":
“There are definitely other approaches, but here's what I'd consider a basic plan for the Regeneration secondary using SOs or common IOs:
- Fast Healing at 1, 3 heals
- Reconstruction nice and early, 3 heals, 3 recharges
- Quick Recovery nice and early, 1 endurance modifier at first, add 1 or 2 more as necessary
- Dull Pain when or shortly after when available, as there is a lot to squeeze in at that level, 3 heals, 3 recharges
- Integration at 16, 3 heals, possibly 1 endurance reducer
- Resilience when and if you can work it in, 1 resist
- Instant Healing when or shortly after when available, 1-3 recharges, no heals unless you're swimming in slots
- Skip Revive
- Moment of Glory when or shortly after when available, 3 recharges
- Hasten when convenient, 3 recharges
- Health when convenient, 3 heals
- Tough when convenient, 3 resists, 1 endurance reducer
- Stamina if and when you start having endurance trouble, which may not be until 30 or later, 1 endurance modifier at first, add 1 or 2 more as necessary"

Fury of the Gladior ends up "double stacked" on every attack, for a (100%-81%^2)*20% = 6.878% DPS buff. So if you do 200 DPS without it, you'll do 213.756 DPS with it.
You don't have the recharge for the chain to be gapless. Golden Dragonfly needs to recharge in 3.43 seconds for that, and you're at 3.59 seconds. I think your gap will round up to 0.264 seconds.
I got 206 DPS with the gap while Hasten is up, assuming I did everything right. I rushed it and didn't double check my work, but I was thinking about 200 DPS before I started, so it's probably good. So yeah, probably around 200 DPS.
Edit: If we're talking about Phase Shift, can't you just use the temporary power? I have it on several characters. I have never, ever thought to click it. Seems like it would work, though. -
-
I haven't given it careful thought, but I would personally take everything but the tier 9. My go-go-go lifestyle doesn't allow for hard crashes, and I'll use inspirations when I need just that little bit more. Lightning Reflexes might be optional on some builds, but I'm a fan of recharge. Power Sink might be optional on some builds, but I'm pretty good at burning endurance.
-
I don't think you're missing anything. I think it'd be a great combo, and I plan to start a Katana/Electric once I get through some of my current crop of alts. I'm guessing that a lot of people are still running on their Shield Defense high.

Dark Armor and Dark Melee are great. I dislike Spines, but not for any technical reasons, and Spines/Dark is a classic AoE machine.

Quote:Dono. Mine had very good survivability while leveling, though I admittedly frankenslotted and used a Kismet unique and a Steadfast protection unique. Those are well within reach of pretty much anyone, but even discounting them, I think it would be solid, at least if you pick the right powers (don't skip Divine Avalanche, grab Tough and Weave, etc.).Must be my playstyle then, because I find my Kat/DA scrapper as probably the weakest one I have, especially at level 50.
Not relevant to the OP, but at level 50 and IO'd to the gills, it's my most survivable Scrapper by far outside of defense debuffs, and I do have a purpled-out Dark Melee/Super Reflexes to compare to. It's no contest. -
Here's what I consider the classic Siphon Life slotting thread. However, I have to admit that Umbral has a point. On a Regen, you might need set bonuses more than you need the healing.

Quote:Took me six hours. That was before the Dark Melee buff. Good times.Nemesis was a pain with my DM/SR, took over 45 minutes if I remember right.

I can't remember if I've ever posted what I use. I'm usually looking for my down time in seconds.
Let's see... I do it step by step too...
1) A = 120/recharge with Hasten active
Double checking Sergei, who is almost perma Hasten:
2) B = 1/recharge with Hasten inactive
3) Down Time = (1-A)/B= (1 - 120/recharge with Hasten active)/(1/recharge with Hasten inactive)
= recharge with Hasten inactive * (1 - 120/recharge with Hasten active)
= 149.2 * (1 - 120/121.1)
OK, that at least matches the result in my spreadsheet. Now, is it equivalent to Umbral's formula?
= 149.2 * (1 - 0.9909)
= 149.2 * .0091
= 1.358
(((recharge with Hasten active)-(120))/(recharge with Hasten active)) * (recharge with Hasten inactive) + 120
Yeah, it's equivalent, with the exception that he's calculating the time for Hasten to recharge, so he adds 120 seconds.
=(((121.1)-(120))/(121.1))*(149.2)+120
=((121.1-120)/121.1)*149.2+120
=(1.1/121.1)*149.2+120
= 0.0091 * 149.2 + 120
= 1.358 + 120
= 121.4

Without set bonuses, I'd probably go for Dark Melee/Super Reflexes for max survivability, or Katana/Dark Armor for very good survivability with better damage output due to slightly better AoE.
-
You should be running 95% defense debuff resistance. You should be able to shrug off Romans and other debuffs just fine.

Thoughts on building a BS/SD for teaming (admittedly from a solo and small team player):
I "heal" my teammates by killing. Damage prevented is at least as good as damage healed.
I taunt by stabbing things in the face. And unless you're next to a Tank where it won't matter, Against All Odds will hold a lot of aggro.
If I'm on a squishy (I do play Blasters), get your Grant Cover and aggro-holding *** the hell away from me. My defense is mobility and staying away from the AoE attacks you're attracting.
(Leadership is nice, though.) -
Haven't checked other chains, but I lose huge DPS when going from:
Smite -> Midnight Grasp -> Smite -> Siphon Life
To:
Smite -> Siphon Life -> Laser Beam Eyes
And adding the Achilles' Heel wouldn't come close to making up the difference. The reason I was looking into it was that second chain just happens to spam Siphon Life almost as fast as it comes up, so improves survivability, plus I wanted Laser Beam Eyes anyway for set bonuses.
I'm only guessing, but I'd bet that almost any decent chain will beat a chain at equivalent recharge with Laser Beam Eyes in it, despite the boost from Achilles' Heel. And if you aren't using it in your chain, you aren't benefiting enough from the proc, and should save the slot. -
If you slot up Hover for speed, it's not bad once you get used to it. But at base levels, it's a pain moving around. So in a sense, it's going to waste slots. Also, hover follow (last I tried it anyway) doesn't get close enough to attack. I'd hover, follow, then as I got close push forward to close the last few feet. It's doable, though.

As others have said, Super Reflexes does not require the Fighting pool, but I'd strongly recommend it.

Well, here's my build if you're still interested. The Blessing of the Zephyr nerf took him below the soft cap, and the Miracle nerf makes his endurance unsustainable, so it needs some work. I've been too busy leveling toons to fiddle with it, though. Plus I'm still in the grumpy "they broke my toy!" stage instead of the gluing it back together stage. And most people wouldn't want to play it as is, since I sacrificed just about everything in the name of survivability, including the two big hitters from Katana. It'll still do 175 DPS, though, which isn't going to impress anyone but doesn't suck either.
Yours takes a very different path than a lot of the Sword/Dark builds floating around. We went for soft-capped positional defense. You went for melee and smashing/lethal. I think all positional defense is better for Katana, since melee is covered almost by default, but melee and smashing/lethal certainly covers the majority of attacks. So it's OK, but you have a lot of holes in your defenses that I'd want to avoid (ranged and AoE energy, negative, psionic, fire and cold). Also, Dark Regeneration is a key power, and it would really like more accuracy and more recharge.

Quote:If you had the recharge, you could also consider this:The chain you list is optimal if you want to be capped for melee and do top notch damage, yes. The only better chain is one that has insane recharge and doesn't use DA, which is usually only 'optimal' on an SR.
Divine Avalanche -> Gambler's Cut -> Soaring Dragon -> Gambler's Cut -> Golden Dragonfly -> Gambler's Cut -> Soaring Dragon -> Gambler's Cut
It does slightly better DPS. However, Divine Avalanche drops for a fraction of a second with that chain, so you take your chances, and it isn't technically the best DPS one-DA chain as a result. Recharge is +163% in Soaring Dragon, which this build doesn't have and shouldn't even try for. Just putting the chain out there. In practice, yeah, I'd probably stick with DA>GC>GD>GC>SD>GC. -
I wouldn't worry much about ranged and AoE smashing. If I were doing a Katana/Willpower, I'd likely just leave that as a hole in the build. The main attack I'm thinking of is the thrown rock smashing you over the head (Super Strength Hurl). There are certainly others, and I haven't done any sort of statistical analysis, but ranged and AoE smashing at least feels infrequent to me.
As far as accuracy against +4s, you're lower than I'd be happy with, but honestly not bad:
91% Gambler's Cut
89% Flashing Steel
104% Divine Avalanche (the important one, capped at 95%)
89% The Lotus Drops
83% Soaring Dragon
89% Golden Dragonfly
If you want to have Mids' tell you the numbers for +4s:
Options -> Configuration -> Exemping & Base Values -> Base ToHit = 39 -
Quote:Yes, but it will do a number of things WORSE, which is the point.MA/fire will probably be playable but there's just nothing it will do better than an MA/shield
Besides, you're ON FIRE. That's totally worth gutting your damage and faceplanting a lot. Then you have Rise of the Phoenix to help take the sting out of your shame. -
Blinding Feint (+128% recharge, 5.28 seconds) -> Ablating Strike (+9% 5.54) -> Vengeful Slice (+96% 4.09) -> Sweeping Strike (+109% 5.28)
-
I believe the consensus is that Gambler's Cut is better in practice, even in high level attack chains. Hitting harder at a high level usually matters less than contributing slightly more to DPS, making more-frequent use of procs (particularly Achilles' Heel), and simply fitting into some very good chains.
(Edit: Doh! Beaten to it.) -
