    MOG: Useless?

Everyone else has already covered why, so I'll just add my signature to this. Moment of Glory is a key Regen power. Take it.

AE arc 9713 by Arcanaville. Specifically designed as a nearly-impossible stress test for scrappers. Looks like it may have had some updates since I last tried it.

(Edit: Just gave it another shot. Second ambush took me out. I couldn't even count how many pets with their 75% to-hit were beating on my poor, defenseless soft-capped Super Reflexes. It was a HUGE spawn.)

    RWZ challenge?

I gave Arcana's challenge a couple shots on both my mains and wasn't able to beat it. I could see how maybe with tactics and practice I could figure it out, since the enemies were kind of like a puzzle, but that offended my need to just flip out and kill things.

The main lesson it hammered home was that if I want to be an AE badass, I need better than soft capped defense. Pets and enemies with to-hit buffs just hit too hard. So I planned out a build for my Broad Sword/Shield Defense with 81.5% melee defense that I think could handle it and leveled to 50. But I just keep playing other alts. So, like so very many projects of mine, finishing Arcana's challenge may remain out of reach.
  4. I was on one, and it was the only ITF I've ever been on. I'm told we did everything completely wrong, but it was a blast. Pure GOGOGOGOGO for over an hour until we hit Rommy. We TRIED just charging and out DPSing him, but it didn't work, so we FINALLY had to use strategy other than “if you can target it, kill it”. And when we were done, we split up and cleared the map just for fun. Yes, there were quite a few deaths, and as best I could tell, nobody cared. I know I didn't.

    RWZ challenge?

I've never heard of a minimum spawn size requirement, as long as you don't whittle it down intentionally. I've also never seen a small spawn with three bosses. Some are smaller than others, but all have seemed large enough.

    RWZ challenge?

I've tried it about ten times on Sergei. No successes, but I've had the pylon down to about a quarter health if I remember correctly, so I know it's possible. But a LOT of things are possible with enough attempts. Hats off to anyone who's done it.

I'm pretty sure that Manticore and Manticore Automaton use the same powers. Yet it DOES sometimes seem like the automaton could give the real Manticore some fighting lessons. Not sure why that is.

    RWZ challenge?

Yep. Tier 9s are allowed, and not generally frowned on. The time it takes to down the spawn usually means you'll be dealing with your tier 9 crash, so you get to choose your approach. And if you can down the spawn before you crash, well, you've devoted a whole lot of your build to hard core damage output, and that's a clean win as well.

Corner pulls are allowed because that's simply how some secondaries are set up. But continually diving around new corners to avoid damage wouldn't be following the rules. The idea is to take the full brunt of their attacks at all times. One corner pull isn't going to invalidate that idea.

Also, even if we can say “here are the standard rules”, the rules are loose. This is about testing your build and getting better, not about passing a yes/no test. If it's too hard, violate some rules. If it's too easy, make it even harder. Just be clear what you did and what rules YOU followed if you say “I beat the RWZ challenge!”

  10. Yeah, I remember reading some of the Ultimus stuff. That's what inspired me as well.
  11. If you're looking for a scrappery tank, you can make a DPS tank out of Shield Defense/Super Strength. I'm not a tanker expert, but just fiddling around, I hit 135 DPS with an Invulnerability/Super Strength build in Mids'. A properly-built Shield Defense/Super Strength tanker should be able to solo a pylon and make mincemeat of AVs, if somewhat slowly on both counts.

The attack string I used for it was Knockout Blow -> Haymaker -> Fire Blast -> Boxing -> Haymaker -> Fire Blast. You're looking at +227% recharge in Knockout Blow for that chain, but you want all the recharge you can get to double stack Rage as much as you can. In the example I made, you get five chains with double rage, crash for ten seconds, then do one chain with a single rage, then repeat. I don't think I had endurance down to sustainability, but I think I had it very close. It's definitely in reach.

Fiery Melee is pretty good, but didn't measure up to my maxed-out Super Strength (10 DPS lower). Same story with Energy Melee. I didn't look at any of the others. I personally built a Shield Defense/Dark Melee, which I'm fairly certain would beat Super Strength for both damage and survivability, except that Foot Stomp = LOVE. If you haven't played Super Strength, DO IT It's very smashy. I'm a big fan.

(Edit: Wait, thinking further, Super Strength is kind of a waste of Shield Defense. Since Super Strength gets much of its damage from Rage, the additional damage from Against All Odds will make a much smaller difference. I still think it would be a lot of fun for you, but some other primary would probably beat it on DPS.)
  12. My first was Manticore. I chose him because he was easy to get to by running the solo Ouroboros “Task Force”. Next was Mako, because he was the only one of the rest of AVs in that task force that I was able to beat.

Heh... I have a screen shot from me beating Mako. The part of the chat log that shows amuses me:

Werner: I forget the name. It's the one where you chase Manticore around, then he changes sides, then changes back, and you kill a giant jade spider at the end.
Werner: It has a ton of AVs, so I thought it would be a good one to try.
Friend: Oh ****. Yeah. Well, not unless you're on Heroic.
Werner: I'm on invincible to spawn the AVs.
Friend: ...Yeeeaaah. You won't clear it.
Werner: So far, I've been able to beat Manticore without temp powers or inspirations, but Ghost Widow owned me under the same restrictions.
Werner: OK, giving Black Scorpion a try.
    Friend: BS iss well, BS.
Friend: Shouldn't be very hard at all.
Werner: Nope, dead. Ah, well. Looks possible.
Random Person: wanna join my mission team?
    You have defeated Mako
    Citadel: Thanks, Werner.

(Edit: Oh, and grats, Eva. )
  13. To belatedly... ahem... brag a little, my demofiles have me separately beating Manticore and Mako with no temps, no inspirations on 4/12/2008. At the time, I had no idea if this was something that no one had done on a scrapper, or something that everyone was doing and just not bothering to post about. I didn't make a post about it. I think the only place I mentioned it was in a thread that Shred Monkey started, something like “What did you do this weekend?” I doubt anyone but Shred even noticed it. From my demo record file names and dates, it looks like I tried a few more AVs, failed on them, and went back to Storm Palace laps and Rikti War Zone Challenge variations for the next five months.

I took out my next AV on 9/12/2008, and that time on Sergei, who was designed from the ground up to solo AVs. He did quite well. Then I rebuilt Werner, and started taking them out on him on 10/12/2008.

I do think we as a group have come a long way since then. My mains are probably bottom tier AV soloing builds at this point since I haven't updated them since then, and everyone just keeps getting better at this. Hats off to everyone.
  14. I'm not sure Regen can really get to the top DPS chains, but if you want a crack at it, you're shooting for over +273% recharge in Ablating Strike. So far as I know, we still don't know EXACTLY how to calculate the required recharge, and there have been some anomalous results reported during recharge testing. So while +273% is theoretically exactly enough to get Blinding Feint double-stacked on all attacks including itself, you'll probably want even more recharge than that to be certain. I'd shoot for something like +280%, which you'll find nearly but not quite impossible.

Personally, I'd just settle for Blinding Feint -> Attack Vitals. You're giving up more than just 10 DPS, though. Probably more like 20 DPS. But you can do Blinding Feint -> Attack Vitals for just +128% recharge in Blinding Feint, and the proper stacking of things isn't nearly so critical if that number is slightly off. It will make the build much less expensive (you won't NEED five sets of purples and five Luck of the Gamblers), and allow you to focus on other aspects of the build.

To finish up the answer for SlyGuyMcFly, +273% in Ablating Strike, +190% in Blinding Feint and +166% in Sweeping Strike. But that isn't to run it gapless. That's just to get the stacking you want, and even then, I wouldn't trust the numbers. To run it gapless, you need +314% recharge in Ablating Strike, +214% recharge in Blinding Feint, and +188% recharge in Sweeping Strike.

Infernal was a tough nut to crack on both of my mains. You're doing great.

If you're already seeing it up enough, then you aren't fighting tough enough enemies, and you can kind of build however you want. If you want the highest possible survivability and DPS, though, you want Hasten. So it depends on how much you want to push the envelope vs. how much you hate Hasten.

As for defense, a decent goal might be something in the 20s. Higher is better, and I'd prioritize melee defense. But again, if you want to push the envelope, recharge comes first.
  17. What secondary? What's your budget? How serious are you about top DPS?

If Super Reflexes, unlimited and extremely, then we have some options. The best single target chain is what Broken Prey said, Blinding Feint -> Ablating Strike -> Sweeping Strike -> Ablating Strike.

Another to consider is Blinding Feint -> Sweeping Strike -> Ablating Strike. The single target DPS isn't quite as good, but the AoE is better, as you're triple-stacking Blinding Feint on your AoE, and you'll be hitting that AoE every four and a half seconds. Get good at lining up cones. Achilles' Heel proc in Ablating Strike, Gladiator proc in Sweeping Strike.

If you aren't Super Reflexes or don't have an unlimited budget for the extreme recharge that those two chains require, go with the traditional Blinding Feint -> Attack Vitals Combo. It's another step down on DPS, but is MUCH easier to achieve.

For a dedicated farming build as opposed to a multi-purpose build, I'd guess you'd want Blinding Feint -> Sweep Combo. It requires high recharge, +248% if my notes are correct, but that's actually pretty achievable if you have enough influence to throw at it.

    LOL!

I don't think we have official pylon soloing rules any more than we have official AV soloing rules. For DPS testing, it's good as long as you're not touching inspirations or temp powers that boost your damage.
  19. It's EASY to soft cap melee on a /Fire... as long as you have Katana or Broad Sword as your primary.
  20. Not sure quite what you're asking, but I'd recommend this:
    Fitness: Hurdle, Health, Stamina
    Leaping: Combat Jumping, Super Jump
    Speed: Hasten
    Fighting: Boxing, Tough, Weave
Oh, wait, that's exactly what txpoodoo said. So dittos!
  21. Do you mean the one he made for Val Blademaster that Val soloed 4 AVs at once with?

If you used it exactly once every 10.3 seconds, yes, it would be a 20% buff to DPS 1/5th of the time, so a 4% DPS buff. A much longer, nastier equation was being tossed around because it doesn't self-stack and you're usually hitting it more often than once every 10.3 seconds.

So I think we were tossing around this:
DPS buff = (100%-80%^number of chances in past 10.3 seconds)*20%
And I've started using this instead, since I use a 95% chance to hit:
DPS buff = (100%-81%^number of chances in past 10.3 seconds)*20%
Those are geared around calculating the buff for every attack individually. I believe we tossed out something similar for estimating it by just applying it to the string.

If they have taken and slotted Grant Cover with just normal AD (no Membranes, 1 stack) they'd only have ~60.5% def resistance. True Grit would off up to +20% maxhp. Don't forget it has a taunt aura, too.

So take that against mobs that heavily debuff defense, deal heavy damage, and can crit. Probably not too bad solo, but on an ITF that is jam-packed with romans?

    Ow.
Hmmm, you're right. That could easily get sucktastic, couldn't it?

Oh, and on a vaguely related note, after the all scrapper ITF I was on, I can no longer claim that the Cimerorans have never defense debuffed Werner to death. They managed to do it early on the ITF, and like most Regen deaths, it was VERY fast, and happened while I was reaching to click on the power that would save me. I LOVE Regen deaths! But I learned the pattern after that, so no more problem the rest of the ITF, at least with defense debuffs. Rommie tore me apart a few times.

Oh! One more piece of general advice. You're probably going to get CREAMED through the teens. The teens can be awful on many scrappers – no endurance, lots of deaths. Just stick it out. It'll go by fairly quickly, and it gets a LOT better in the twenties.

And if the Achilles' Heel CFDRD hits that, it actually debuffs the pylon by down to 4% DR because doesn't dam-res automatically resist dam-res debuffs? 20% resist of 20% debuff = 4% so actual debuff is 16% from 20% leaves 4%?
Yes. But as a simpler way to look at it, when the Achilles' Heel hits, it buffs your damage by 20%, and always by 20%. If the enemy has 50% damage resistance, your 20% debuff turns into a 10% debuff, so now they have 40% damage resistance. You were doing 50% of normal damage, and now you're doing 60% of normal damage, so it's a 20% buff to you against that enemy.
