  1. The guy on the right looks like he's about to transform into one of those original cybertron hover cars.
  2. Late to the game, but yeah the video drivers were the only possible issue I saw considering I just sold an OLDER laptop that ran the game on low to moderate settings.
  3. Nothing beats the combat bug where you're getting hit, but can't see from what.
  4. weird, but whatever works right?
  5. Try following this guide so that others can get a better look at what exactly we're working with. There may be something completely off the wall going on.
  6. My two inf is that the powersupply may not be sufficient for what Sounds like two (?) video cards. You mentioned two temperatures so it sounds like you're talking about running SLI or the like.

I about flipped off the bed when I read Windows Enterprise edition! I even forgot they made that. It makes me wonder if that machine is a desktop or a server, especially after seeing all the internal drives. I did notice that your OS drive is too full. You should find a way to pad that closer to 20% capacity because windows likes room and will behave badly otherwise.
  7. I see a couple things not really answered in here. First, while it may have been infered I don't see where the video card has been listed as being swapped for a known working one to test if that was the problem. You can 'verify' that the card's not the problem all you want, but if you don't swap it out, then you can't 'certify' that it wasn't.

You asked why City of Heroes and nothing else? It goes back to the video card, sorta. Unlike most modern games and just about anything else, City of Heroes was designed to use the raw power of the video card in the way of Open GL (as opposed to software based processing in the form of DirectX). Because the game is trying to access the card directly, basically it results in a hotter card because it's maxing out the capabilities of it. I nearly litterally fried three laptop video cards with this game! Some of the details might be a little off, but that's the gist of it.

Now I really don't think this'll help the issue, but it wouldn't hurt. You say that you've 'reinstalled', does that mean that you've completely wiped the game from the drive after using the uninstall utility (and therefore redownloaded the game) or are you just refering to say the drivers? Follow this link on installing City to a completely different location and see if that doesn't help atleast a little as for some reason Vista and Win7 run into problems for some rare few with the default installation.

A couple important things before you reinstall. Do a full uninstall and then delete the City of Heroes, NCSoft, and Launcher folders if they still exist. You should also delete the registry keys for Cryptic and NCSoft just in case.

Also, track down speedfan to take a look at your various temperatures as it's entirely possible that your video card fan could be failing which WILL kill the card.
  8. Try flushing your internet cache just in case. Maybe you've got some bad cookies or something else screwy like that.

    I thought that's what I said, but Ditto. :-p
  10. They really need to put in some FAQ that the best way to install the game is to manually download the game using the launcher as it seems to solve so many questions before they're asked.
  11. Ok, time for a serious game related update:

So keep in mind that I'm only using the GPU that is on the CPU die that is allocated 1Gb of my 16Gb of RAM. I was able to get 7 stable instances to run idle simultaneously. I'd try more, but ran out of my old trial accounts and/or forgot their logins. The game GFX were set to the medium/prefered/whatever-it's-called-that's-just-below-Ultra setting for reference.

I noticed that the temps listed for the CPU/GPU didn't exceed 74C (noting an ambient of 89F) and there wasn't a noticible increase in temp after the 2nd instance.

Looking at the memory usage, it's quite clear that each instance used 1.5Gb of RAM so my system's theoretical limit should be around ten instances.

There was a noticible decrease in FPS once I went beyond about 3/4 instances and had I gone to 10, then I'd probably be sitting at something like 5FPS for each. Note, I had the inactive instances set to 5FPS and the game windowed so that I could see the gadget that was doing the data reporting.

Something that's likely unique to the limitations of the GPU was the inability to Alt-Tab without crashing the game flat out. It got to the point that I was guaranteed to repeat the results everytime, hense why I switched from Full Screen to Windowed for the testing. When I'd originally done the test in Full Screen it flat refused to leave the game! Well actually it Did leave the game, but I couldn't see nor interact with anything else. All I saw was the current instance dropping to the appropriate 5FPS for not being the focused app.

Well that's all I can think of for now. Until I get that descrete GPU atleast.

    I expired

I was gonna say "well that sucks, but does that mean I can have your CDs now?"...

    Then I saw the picture...

And all I could think of was that he looks like he's trying to pass something and she looks like, well meh. O>:-)
  13. I've only seen the AION/GW exclusive ones.

Yeah, not until I get comfortable with towers again. :-p That and I probably won't be able to afford the GPU until early next year give or take whether this lady pays me back nicely or I have to actually file suit for the property I sold a while back. Then I could go all out! :-D But seriously, it'd goto my poor abused CC or car loan first. :-/ Well, after I pay the bloody lawyer. >.<

Thanks for the info though, I was thinkin it was some fits in my hand unit until I watched the NewEgg review video and was like... O.O

Oh yeah, my primary concern wasn't necessarily the height from the board as much as clearance from the RAM banks. Some reviewers said something about having to reorient the fan during installation.
  19. So after building this I've run into a snag. It looks like the same environment (my room gets too hot :-X) that had my laptop sitting in the 60C idle range has this new tower in the 40C idle range. I ran a full system security scan and it jumped to nearly 80C! In the meantime, I'm going to look into reseating the factory cooler and thermal paste, but does anyone know if say this cooler will physically fit my build? For that matter, does anyone have a better recomendation for a cooler? Keep in mind, right now the Intel CPU is handling the graphics as well until I can save up for the nVidia card so I don't want to get this cooler installed only to find out later that my GPU won't fit!
  20. I don't have the commands off the top of my head, but you should be able to save your bind file, edit it offline (to remove said bind), and then reload the new bind file. I've yet to hear about this 'feature', but that's not entirely odd.

Your right, it shouldn't...unfortunately bad oversight during the original creation of the system has led to a rat's nest of code. So the reality shows that it is that hard to code.
  22. Eh, I'm definitely not VIP anymore and yet there will be times that I'll have one tab with a thread that says I'm not and another that says I am. Who knows.

EDIT: Slipstreaming Service Packs isn't as easy as it was in the XP days. There are some third party tools that allow you to slipstream Service Packs, Updates and more, but IMO it's simpler just to download the official installation files.
I just finished doing all of this today and then I wondered what I'd forgotten. Oh that's right, I have to take that new slipstream image and make it Bootable! Luckily this WAIK thing has tools builtin if you find the right scripts online to follow. :-p

Edit: Something else I hadn't thought about with this system. It's a good thing I upgraded that SSD to the much larger 240Gb. I hadn't thought about the swap file size! That said, after everything else gets paid for I'm honestly considering spending the extra bit and maxing out to 32Gb of RAM and adding that option mSATA (60Gb) cache drive just for grins. :-p

    I know, I know...me and budgets don't mix. O>:-X
  24. k, what about my hotswap delema?

The last test I did was to make sure the BIOS was set correctly, cables all the way they're supposed to be, popped in a SATA HDD in the Drive Dock, shows up as Internal drive, and no way to quick remove like a jump drive. :-/

Edit: I found this, but some seem to think it only works most the time. Others point to finding specific Intel/MSFT drivers or avoiding those same ones all together. *is confused*
  25. So with the Digital River download all I need is my product key?
