Another Super Group base question!

I would like to ask what you would think about a super Group Base that would allow any and all Heroes and Villains, Rogues and Vigilantes to the SG and they would earn prestige for the Base like any other SG.
The SG leader can be any alignment there is. They would be responsible for paying the rent in Atlas park or Port Oaks. Or maybe a Coop Zone. The bases teleporters would only allow a hero to go to a hero location and a Villain to a villain location like in Pocket D and a Rogue or Vigilante can use and base teleporter like in Pocket D. The base would have to be designed as you can not Raid it.
I really do think this is possible it should not be hard to code the system to work that way.
Please be nice when you leave comments. Thanks

Short answer: It would be nice, but very unlikely to happen.

Long Answer: According to the developers the base code is an unholy monstrosity and any attempts to change it tend to end up breaking stuff (like base defenses being hostile to you a few issues back). Supergroups and bases are pretty heavily entwined so changes ot one impact the other. So while this would be a nice feature I would be very, very, very surprised to see it happen. The current setup where members can belong to the opposite faction but don't earn prestige, can't access the base and have to join as the correct faction and then switch probably represents the best the devs could do without a major development effort.

Those that have seen the code would likely disagree with you.

Those that have listened to what the Developers have told us about the base code would likely disagree with you.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

While the original subject of this quote was different, it still applies.

This is about the nicest way to put it.

The devs have SPECIFICALLY pointed out the base system as THE ur-example of something that's so fragile and badly documented that they're actually afraid to touch it anymore, lest they destroy it utterly.

So, I have a question for the OP.

How come you post something once as a suggestion in the guise of a question (or at least, with the word "question" in the title, even if the contents were never questioning anything)...and get an overwhelming response of "Standard Code Rant" and/or "I wish but it'll never happen" and/or "no"...

Then three days later post pretty much the same thing and think you'll get a different response?

(PS; the Suggestions & Ideas forum is down a few from here.)

Hey, Hyper -

Your flowchart is a bit out of date - you might want to update it with the new devs names and take Castle out.

Just for strict accuracy, of course.

Lol, many a times when it comes to bases the devs have either:

or

wanted to

to the code

or most likely saw this and reacted:

Lol while the gifs say it all, if the devs was to touch the code, they would take a issue to touch the slightest thing

as they have more or less said
"touching base code is like playing jenga - while it's on fire"

the best we could ever hope is someone/some people spending around 2/3 issues perhaps reworking the whole base code. and going from there lol.

tho the idea - I would support if they could do it

Actually it should present an even higher obstacle for "Oh that's easy" claimants to overcome.

Looks like base raiding is never coming back, so that wouldn't be an issue.

Okay thanks for the comments! They were not offensive and informative. I had not realized the base coding was that bad. I am a simple Security guard that is retired Military. And you at least liked the idea for the most part. I think it would be a great idea.
Ads for the suggestions thing Again I did not know where to put it So I asked a question. Nothing wrong with asking!

You think he should take Castle out? What about poz? He's been gone even longer.

I believe Shannon Posniewski is still at Cryptic Studios and the last I heard his title was Principal Programmer.

He came to work on the game around the time they were doing their reboot in early 2003 and finishing the game before launch. He's responsible for designing and implementing the combat system, chief designer of the UI interface as well as some of the side systems in the game such as vendors, rewards, badges, plaques and more. (I'm not sure what all he worked on for CO but I believe his title on that was Executive Producer. I'm sure he had a lot of input on the code in that game as well.)

Actually, I'd say neither Castle nor poz should be removed from the flowchart as they probably have as deep of an understanding of the game code as anyone currently working at the studio.

Especially when it comes to determining the difficulty of a change to the game code.

I was never really sure who poz was, so I didn't mention him.

But perhaps at some future date, we may need an "*" to identify both Castle & poz as "dearly departed".

Overall I love the flowchart....

Your right, it shouldn't...unfortunately bad oversight during the original creation of the system has led to a rat's nest of code. So the reality shows that it is that hard to code.
