I consider myself comfortable enough with things to have it off myself as well, but you Can turn down the sensitivity of the UAC. I havent' tested it, but I think you can tell the related apps (launcher, cox.exe, etc) to run with admin privilages (I Think this puts them on the UAC nice-list).

Agreed, it's always good form to post the what, why, and how on having your problem solved!

so...what happens if you simply alt-tab and reload the launcher/game? Also, can you confirm that the launcher is staying active? IE: it's in the taskbar once game is launched

Those are hard to read (on my screen atleast, even when zooming), but it does kinda sound like something's blocking at the firewall level. Do you have any issues with any other online games? I Think I saw DCU on there, but I'm not sure how their web connections would differ. I would try it once with the firewall disabled (briefly) and with anything else that could try to connect online closed down during the test. If it works, then you know that there's something up in the settings. You may wanna consider a more meaty firewall as well.

Those sound like normal browsing related (web ads) results. Quarantining them won't cause any trouble if you wish to do so.

Can we all agree to not post on this topic AGAIN, (and again and again and again) unless the thread title is "Copy toll is UP!!!!"?
Not like it's news. It's been broken more often than working for basically forever. -

Oh so it's not refreshing the screen then. Hmm, maybe you should post some details on your specs, settings, etc. *waits for one of the Co'Elders to chime in with wisdom*

If I recall correctly, the home version of windows only runs a few apps at once before it starts to cry. Or maybe that's the starter edition?
Either way this is a good non-graphic intensive app laptop. -
If you mean that say the screen goes black except for the UI/mouse, then you've either got the graphics too high for your system or perhaps (more likely) there's something else running in the background that's taking up the GPU's resources. I normally alt-tab fine ingame unless I forget to drop to reduced gfx when running two instances. Don't forget to add this to your properties on the launcher as it helps this a bit.

It's been a long time since I've even had an actual XPx64 discussion, but basically it came out to something like trying to run games on a business laptop. It works great for IT stuff, but not multimedia. So in that respect more like NT4 than ME, but we don't discuss that particular M$FT mistake around these parts. ;-)

way too many sub processes going on there. Norton's probably being your biggest punk here as well as the computer specific manufacturer software. Something I'd probably do is cold boot the machine and see what's running at that point. Let us know how much CPU time and RAM is being taken up sitting idle. Those specs are Close to what my other laptop runs and it barely handles a single instance if I have that kinda stuff running. I'm not sure I'd recomend anything higher than the lowest two graphics settings ingame either, even though the GPU should be able to handle it.

Quote:Management would like to inform you that those responsible for the thread have been sacked. Those that necro'd the thread have also been sacked. And now, some dancing llamas...Even more obviously they didn't bother to read the thread in its entirety before necroing it.
If you aren't going to bother resurrecting a thread properly why do it at all? Most necro posts are shambling mockeries of the original thread, and considering the quality of many necroed threads that sets the bar impressively low. -
tell me about it, when choosing your power make SURE you read whether it says bonus/non-bonus.

just remember that while the retail codes may work to 'upgrade' your account each time, you're only going to get one 'retail box' token.

Quote:that's because there are many of us who order them with numerous different configurations, but really there aren't but a tenth of those (at most) with different GPU/mobos. But yeah if you goto the drivers/support section of the HP site there's a place where you can put in your exact model (that number, well actually there's two different numbers on the bottom of your laptop) and get the driver listing. There are approximately 4,452 different dv7 notebooks... which one is yours?
For example, I found a dv7-4223ca, but it's driver IS NOT for your video card. It's for some others.
Therefore, post exactly which DV7 you have, or better yet, go here:
http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html
Click on the 'Drivers and Software' area, then tell it your model number, like shown above. You'll find it on the laptop somwhere. Or, ostensibly, it can be told to ask your laptop what it needs... but there's no guarantee it'll figure out the driver for the video... it may think it's just peachy, and not do it. (ATI and OpenGL don't exactly like each other sometimes... so you get what you're gettin'. But DX10, it'll work yesterday... Go figure.)
It will give you the correct driver, and you will install it. It will then hopefully work. If not... well... You're seeing why I don't buy anything to do with ATI, to be honest, because of silliness like this.
/I kid you not, search for just DV7, and there are *hundreds* of different builds... it's stupid. -
from what little I've heard about XPx64 it's a bit unstable

can you enter while in safemode, gamewise not xp

Windows 7 has a higher memory footprint/overhead so on an identical system/upgrading you'll end up with less available memory/resources after moving to 7. If you haven't used it already, then you'll have quite a few things to figure out once it's installed. I 'think' you can still trick windows 7 into doing a clean install from the upgrade disc, but it requires doing it like a repair when booting from the DVD. IE: you'd want to do your backup first as you'll end up wiping the drive.

I thought expired emails simply sent the items back to the original sender.

What they said and since you were wondering...it's a thong. (according to Slashnburn's angle of stance)
