That's ridiculous. What's REALLY going to happen is that Johnny will die in battle and then several months later, four Human torches will appear, all of them claiming to be Johnny Storm. Three of the four will eventually be revealed to be a creation of Reed Richards, while the fourth was sent out by Doctor Doom to make Reed look bad.

And of course the real John Storm will come out of nowhere to save everybody and be rocking one kickin' mullet.

so no hope for joining a team with three other adventurous pilots and going on an outer space adventure and being hit by cosmic rays? *sigh* right, back to trying to get bit radioactive insects.

    SCIENCE!

  8. while the woman playing Emma is indeed ungodly hawtsome, this movie has already failed in that Kelsey Grammar will not be providing the voice for the Beast. I also regret that the only place where we got to see his awesomeness as the blue, beautiful, bouncing, befurred Beast is in the Last Stand.

also, i expect it to be a movie that takes place in the 1960s and yet still have modern day cars, computers, and military equipment for no reason.

    k, that is all.

they're not doing it nearly as badly as some other shows have done it. and while there are moments of stupidity between the two of them, they've already gotten to the point after 4 seasons where the nerd's got the girl and has become a spy. so doing the rough waters bit from time to time makes sense, and given the tone of the episode, it;s not as if she was going to say no.

The hero being knocked off a building and getting attacked again almost immediately on the ground happens all the time in comic books.

Superman puts on a pair of glasses and no one can see the resemblence he has to Clark Kent.

More than one hero has a unique vehicle that should be easy to trace if any effort was put into it.

Spiderman lives in NYC, the city that never sleeps and no one has ever seen him entering or exiting his home? Yeah right.

There are just some improbable things we accept as part of a comic book story, and this show is emulating them successfully.
improbable perhaps, but something a great deal of comic writers try to at least explain in some way, not just expecting the audience to accept the explanation for fantastic event. Not just letting it happen and then expecting folk to accept it and move on. also, just because we're nitpicking, other than Batman (and i guess Green Hornet?) who else really has a 'unique vehicle' that can be easily identified?

the show's decent enough, but if the writing doesn't get any better, then it's not lasting more than a season.
  12. Caught it, and enjoyed the first half of the pilot and most of the other episode, but the last half of the pilot felt like they were purposely rushing every cliche they could for no real reason. It also seemed like part of the plot that should have been mentioned in the pilot ended up becoming part of the second episode. That and the CGI cape was just... ugh... it's supposed to be one of the bigger selling points of the show and it just looks bad.

No problem with the actors or the story, its solid enough and they take it just seriously enough even though you can see where tongue is firmly entrenched in cheek. It's got some potential, but it needs to shake loose the crap over the next few episodes or else i don't see the Cape making it to the end of it's first season.
  13. Right... so what was this thread all about?

Of course, you'll have the same people saying that the special 100th Release Anniversary Edition on Chartreuse-Ray is just so much better than all the previous releases that one just has to have it.
it's Star Wars being slapped onto Blu Ray. They made announcements and commercials for other series and trilogies ending on Blu Ray (BttF, LoTR), and slapped stuff on the Blu Ray that wasn't on the DVD editions, and you're griping because Lucas is doing the same thing? i don't see how it matters to you if you're not planning on spending any money on the new versions.

is it wrong that i could be down for this?

  18. chiming in and agreeing with the folks who've already mentioned the various Tim Zahn novels (both the Heir to the Empire trilogy, the Hand of Thrawn duology, and Survivor's Quest), and pretty much all of the books by Michael Stackpole and Aaron Allston (most notably Rogue Squadron).

the New Jedi Order is long, but if you're willing to stick with it, most of the novels are decent. just have to be willing to suffer some of the really bad ones. (which, sadly includes Vector Prime, which kicks the whole thing off)

I haven't read the Legacy or Fate of the Jedi series, and being a pretty big fan of the EU, i dont really want to. too much dark crap happens for me to even want to read it.

A couple of other SW books i dig are the Han solo trilogy by A.C. Crispin, and the older Han Solo books by Brian Daley. this one gets a bit of flack, but it's a fun read regardless, Splinter of the Mind's Eye. then there are the Darth Bane books, which are on my to read list, but i have to get my hands on some copies of them. Fundage is light at the moment, so i havent been able to get them.

...and because i cant get into Star Wars EU without bringing up Dark Horse comics, if you want comic adaptation, Dark Horse has been the ones holding the license for better than 20 years and they do awesome work and a lot of their older material has been reprinted in decent priced Omnibus editions. (for example, the Rogue Squadron omnibus... omnibi?... books, that cover events prior to the RW series by Stackpole.)

    Young Justice

Killing YJ. welcome to one of DiDio's "brilliant" editorial mandates. he had the title smacked down despite how popular it was so he could meld the popular characters into a new batch of Teen Titans (which was itself at the time flagging for various reasons), and end pretty much all the lighthearted comics he could get his hands on. Only some of the characters 'graduated' to the new TT since they were attempting to blend the two different Titans groups together.

it wasn't bad as far as series go, but a lot of folks (myself included) knocked it because they ended what was an otherwise awesome title to turn the Titans into generic annoying supersidekick team C.

as for Impulse. i love the character, a lot, and it was cool to see him get his own title. However it annoyed me to no end to see the progress he'd made as a character prior to him getting his own book pretty much completely wiped out. i didn't exactly cheer seeing him become the new Kid Flash in the new TT series, but about the only thing i did dig about it was they brought the character to a maturity level at least roughly equal to where he was before he got his own book.
  23. is it disturbing that when i think of Superhero Squad, i wish the designs had looked more like the mini-Marvels?

yeah, i horked a friend's copy of the original and watched on a nice big, uber HDTV screen too before going to see Legacy. as i mentioned earlier, it was awesome seeing so many callbacks to the original movie and most of them without being blatant about it.

though i think my favorite performance in the whole movie was Castor/Zoos (i think that was his name). the guy running End of Line. completely over the top and awesome.
  25. Was pretty hyped about this movie from being a big fan of the original. Probably one of the few times i'll ever REALLY look forward to seeing something in the theaters. So, i actually sucked it up and laid out what was essentially double the normal ticket price to go and see this in IMAX and 3D. i figured why not? i never bother otherwise, so if im going to continue to despise the wave of 3-D, may as well pay for it at least once...

saw it and was not disappointed. was actually pretty jazzed coming out of the movie. there were more than a few moments that were a bit on the meh and eyeroll side of things. but they did well enough with everything else that you bump through the various potholes in the movie without getting jarred by it. the soundtrack was awesome, and while i wish they'd gone a bit further with some elements of the story, especially once they hit the Grid, it was a solid story. nothing too out there and handled pretty well. but then, despite how cool the original Tron was, it's story was also pretty basic. just dressed up all nice and pretty.

i definitely recommend seeing the movie. mebbe not seeing it in imax or 3D, unless you REALLY want to. i did, and to be honest if you're going to make people wait almost 30 years for a sequel, this is how it should go. unlike some other franchises i could think of.
