Quote:It'd stop if they did their job and healed people properly! ;-)Myth: Hearing people from the defender forum ***** and moan about healers is always welcome, and doesn't get old at all.
He didn't, but the contract he did sign forces him to wear a replica Castle costume when at the office and when attending CoH/V related events. I hear the most annoying part is having to spirit gum on the goatee every morning. -
Quote:Right back at you. Meaningful content is in the eye of the beholder. The distinction you're straining for here doesn't exist.
Your opinion of their practicality doesn't apply to anything but your game experience.
You can make the argument that unless you play through every mission with every single possible powerset combination and on every variation of team composition, then you haven't experienced all the content in CoH/V. Although technically true, it is holding the content levels to an extremely liberal standard that is unrealistic. There might be content, but it isn't significantly different from what has been previously experienced.
My major interest is in canon storylines, of which there has been extremely limited updates for a while now. I16 continues that trend. I don't see I16 as a weak issue per se, but it is one that doesn't add much to CoH/V for me. That it lets players change their power colours and is a farmer's paradise doesn't add much to my gaming experience. -
Quote:Story content. I15's sole TF per side was pretty weaksauce (and yeah, I do get that it was meant to be an anniversary treat, but here was one of the most requested characters in CoH/V lore and he gets a pretty lousy storyline and goes down like a chump. No build up, no excitement, just "Here's Reichsman, go show him a beat down"). A revamped zone. Something new to play through in a lore kind of way. New powersets for ATs - although exciting - aren't enough when I feel I've already played the content numerous times. And I'm a bit burned out on AE as well, which is why I wanted to see something dev created.-What would it have taken for you to be impressed with this issue?
Quote:-Would you still have found something to give negative feedback to even if the issue gave you everything you wanted?
Quote:-Are you just a person that is very hard to please?
I'm very easy to please if you do that. ;-) -
Quote:Don't you understand that if a MMO launches without loot it is going to fail in less than six months? CoH needs loot if it wants to survive! ;-)People on these forums have been pretty consistently saying the game's dying since about... the first day of beta. Being the ones with the most interests in the game also means being the ones who bawl first if they don't like how something looks.
Yeah, proclamations of death on the forums are a tradition going back a long way. -
Quote:My point was that although a popular change with existing players and maybe a small draw to new players, exited players who left for any reason are unlikely to be draw back just to turn their electricity black. The major complaint about CoH/V is that there is a lot of repetition in running mission maps over and over and over again, particularly on the same maps. It is a major complaint that hasn't been addressed since something like Issue 2 iirc, where early level mobs had some custom maps added that better reflected their origins. It isn't sexy, it probably isn't going to set the boards on fire, but that's what CoH/V needs. More map types with some neat tricks we haven't seen before.I have got to say, I agree that the issue definitely is a draw to older players, but i find some of your conclusions odd, or at least born of strange expectations. This issue addressed something we have been asking for since issue 1, and was at one time suggested would be in issue 3, so as a longtime player, yeah, i can understand where you are going with that, but im not sure what you expected would bring in new players that was overlooked. A new player would have quite a lot of existing content to go through, and outside of the low level hero stuff, most of it is quite good. If anything repetitious content is more the complaint of long time players who complain that the game is repetitive, and im not sure how tossing a few new arcs out there is going to solve that.
This is why I believe GR really needs to bring something new to CoH/V. If it is doing the exactly same thing we can do currently in CoH and CoV, but with a change of scenery, then it isn't going to hold onto players who are coming back to test the waters. I fully expect GR to include public quests, but there are a number of neat tricks that already exist in CoH/V that are used as one-offs yet really add to the game (like the 'Trap Sprung' event in the Hess(?) TF, or the storyline in the Vangard missions complete with cutscenes, and so on). -

Quote:I hope not, because an evil version of Blue Steel is a lot more fun to contemplate than yet another robot army.Maybe that's a diverting point? Blue Steel lost. Impossible here, but in a world where hings are opposite? Almost a certainty. The the Clockwork King became Chief of Police. Because that twist is too good not to do.
It's a nice model, but we will grow bored with destroying them by the truckloads within the first week of GR's launch. However, what it does say is that there is a Praetorian version of the Clockwork King. Unless the King is good - that's always a possibility. I've always thought that the CK and Dr Vahzilok would make good resistance fighters against Tyrant's regime.
Were I evil, I'd suggest that it would make a lot of sense for Tyrant to keep the Clockwork King locked up, keep Mother Mayhem messing with him and use the Clockwork Army for free.
The other thing that model strikes me as is just a little bit... Nemesis. -
I16 was an issue made to appeal to existing players not to leave, but not really to attract new players. This is simply because the proportion of players who quit CoH/V because they couldn't be the Emerald Crystal is exceedingly low, while those who quit for reasons of repetitious content is quite high. Watching Dark_Respite's I16 video confirmed this to me - a lot of features only matter to existing players, where it is new players that CoH/V needs.
It's an issue that took a lot of work to get done, but as a customer I reserve the right to be completely unimpressed by the end result. -

It would be a rare team that would be unhappy to see a Defender or two on it. Even at lvl 50.
They aren't the easiest AT to solo, but they will pretty much always be able to find a place on a team. -
Ahh, yes, maintenance. Add in daylight saving and suddenly a prime CoH/V playing night can end prematurely.
And yes, beating maintenance in finishing a mission is an adrenaline-pumping experience. I've had the "it's only 60 seconds til maintenance WHERE IS THAT ******* FINAL MINION HIDING" experience several times. :-) -
Flying while hungover is frowned upon by the citizens of Paragon City. Particularly because they know it never rains so that excuse won't work.
EDIT: Anyone keep the Qlop pictures? That was very much an OH GOD MY EYES kind of bug.
... at least I think it was Qlop... -
I've noticed that there is "The European Lounge", but we are just "Oceanic Lounge". We don't even get a "The".
Segregation indeed! ;-) -
I'm guessing end of September, right around the time players are working out if they want to sub to ChampO or not following the first 30 days.
*Please do not take this opportunity to turn this thread into another ChampO thread. Please. For the catgirls.* -
'unsub unfunny' is only tagged on this thread. I'm sure this will change as I post more.
I do wonder what the mods thought would happen when they introduced a forum with a member-voted rep feature and member-created tags. It's almost like they wanted the extra work. -
I think it would be great if all tags got censored into off mode.

Her legs look more like muscle than fat, anyway. Some people cannot afford super-strength without muscles ruining their looks.
Edit: Whoops forgot there's a second page when I typed this
So Swan is too fat, Sister Psyche's hair is too red and Dominatrix isn't harsh enough. -
Is this the thread where we come to bad mouth Company of Heroes?

Quote:So, anecdotally you're sick of anecdotal evidence? ;-)To quote Ceiling Cat: anecdotal evidence is anecdotal. And I am sick and tired of people overblowing their own problems and projecting their discontent over "a sizeable number" of other people with no evidence but a dozen of their friends.
Going back to the original point - Freakshow having their xp rates reduced means very little. The farmers / powerlevellers will just move on. Battle Maiden appears to be the current preferred option of some farmers.
And again I find it odd that the devs make a change like this while also opening up the ability to set mission difficulty levels up for maximum farmage. -
-
Quote:I thought about that, but the point is if the publisher can cut the dev staff once, it can certainly do it again. Post CoV there was a boxed expansion announced at the same time Positron was made lead dev. It was quietly dropped several months later. Why even announce it if Cryptic knew they'd be cutting their own resources on CoH/V?I don't think that quote about slashing the development team is about the Freem 15 at all. I think it's about cuts prior to CoH's release.
It is all ancient history though and the fighting of wars that have already been fought. -

Quote:Again, if people want to see D_R release more materials, you need to cough up money to help cover the costs.Well, Ultimus, if it helps... I've already begun storyboarding out a GR teaser AND trailer. If I can scrounge the funds to license the music I need, I think I can manage something quite spiffy.
Not sure if you've looked there D_R but http://www.istock.com was selling royalty-free audio. -
I've only played through the blueside Reichsman TF once. It was just dull. If there ever is a complaint that AVs are just big bags of hitpoints you slowly work through, Reichsman is its best example. What's worse is (the way we did it) saw the team switch targets to take out the new AV, which gave the tank-occupied Reichsman time to regen some of his health. It really was a case of backsliding with every new AV.
I do get the idea behind trying something new, but you know what would have been interesting? If the captured AVs escaped to take on Reichsman as well. That way he could have been the big bag of hitpoints but we would have at least got some AV pets to help. -
Quote:First off, farming generates influence regardless of drops. This is always going to see prices at the overall level go up as only a small proportion (5%, I think) exits due to market fees. Other inf sinks - prestige conversion, contacts, etc - probably don't significantly eat up enough inf to ever meet the ever flowing ocean of inf into CoH/V. An improved ability to farm is only going to see inflation rates go up.How so?
This change will just shift around where the money goes.
More purples, so cheaper purples.
More salvage, so cheaper salvage.
Fewer set IO recipes, so more expensive set IO recipes.
It isn't worse or better, it's just different.
More purples would be cheaper purples, if they all actually made it to market. Some do. Some end up slotted on the many alts people play with. Some go to guild mates. Demand is pretty much always going to strip supply with regards to purples, so prices will continue to rise overall (as they have been doing since they were introduced).
More salvage doesn't equal cheaper salvage when the dedicated farmer knows what to keep and what to trash. As return rates change for certain salvage, so will farmers change what they farm. A lot of salvage / recipes earned by farmers are trashed so have no impact on the market.
Some IO sets might see costs deflated as supply increases, but these are ones with low levels of demand. IO sets that are seen as desirable (or particular recipes for popular frankenslotting) will - as you stated - get more expensive. Farming probably isn't going to change this, except perhaps for what is to be increasing in value with powerset proliferation changes.
I'm also assuming that there are more characters involved in CoH/V than there were 6 months ago or so - more characters means higher levels of demand which in turn drives prices up. When Going Rogue hits and brings with it a heap of new players and characters prices will go up then too. Marketeers will benefit from such changes, but for casual players it puts an increasing number of IOs out of reach.
