I wonder if Grant Morrison is a wee bit pissed that DC is essentially erasing everything he's done on the Bat-books for the last 5-6 years? Anything about him or from him has been noticably absent since DC made their big announcement. Not that I've completely liked or been in favor of everything he's done, but he clearly had a very detailed and involved plan for the Bat-family that has just gone poof.
I know they're trying to make everyone younger again, but just how much de-aging are we going to be seeing? Its a trickle down effect. If you de-age all the big guns, then you HAVE to de-age all the Titans generation, which means de-aging all the Teen Titans age-group that came after that. Seems like a logistical nightmare to me.
But, on the plus side, I've still got my boxes of comics with everything I liked before, so they're free to do as they will. -
While I do appreciate the thought there Ace, those yellow boots are just awful... completely ruin the sleek lines...

I'm wary of this at best. Done properly, it could be a wonderful thing, allowing them to streamline the DCU in a very good way. Done improperly, it could end up being a certifiable damn nightmare.
I remember when they did the first Crisis on Infinite Earths all those years ago, and I was so excited that they were going to bring everything and everyone into one cohesive world. I was sadly disappointed when I discovered afterwards that they really didn't have much of an editorial direction determining what that new world was going to be. They seemed to let creators just run every which way with things, resulting in the mess that they've tried to clean up multiple times now.
IF there is a strong editorial mandate from the top, then I think they can make this work. If there's not, I think we'll be looking at another new mega-crisis in about 5 years. -
I still have every one of the Calvin & Hobbes books. They are worn, tattered, dog-eared from repeated readings. I still go there when I just need a little pick-me-up or a laugh. The true magic in it has been rediscovering it through the eyes of my children. They both read them just as voraciously as I did. While I miss Calvin & Hobbes, I'm glad Bill Watterson did it and ended it on his terms, so it would never be anything less than its finest.

Michael Jai White should be Luke Cage. Chiwetel Ejiofor should be the Black Panther.

Kinda knew this was heading our way, but kinda on the fence about it. Seems a little overkill. -
Sinning. To celebrate not getting Raptured.

Well.. that is a long story there.. there are long standing apocryphal rumors of a little hookup between the Macho Man and an underaged Stephanie McMahon way back in the day... from what I've always heard, that is the reason for the animosity between Vince and Randy, and why the Macho Man has never been invited back to the WWE in any form. It will be interesting to see if they still do a little memorial retrospective for him.
-
Godammit. That sucks. When Randy first came to the WWF, back when he was a bad guy (before all the Macho King crap), he was absolutely the man. His match with Ricky Steamboat at Wrestlemania III is still pretty much the bar that everything else has to live up to.

Deadeye. I had that name somewhere once upon a time, but could never quite find the right toon for it.

The networks suck. How many CSI/Law&Order/procedural/medical/legal/cop shows can they clone? Either that or an endless stream of "lets make some loser semi-famous for 15 minutes" half-***** "reality" shows. Its all crap. They have no patience to let anything develop anymore. Its takes time sometimes for a show to find its stride, for the writers to find the characters' voices, for the actors to really find the groove of their characters. The networks pull things so fast now, or retool things so quickly now that it just doesn't happen.
I find myself much more drawn to the cable networks model of things right now. USA, TNT, FX, A&E have put out a much better product, in a much better fashion. The smaller "seasons" that they use, usually 10-13 episode blocks are great. They come on, and they run consecutively, no odd weeks (or months) off. It allows the writers to create and focus on a specific story arc for a shorter period of time, and then bring that arc to a definitive conclusion before taking time off. I think the networks would benefit greatly from shifting to this model. Shorter seasons, tighter stories, a chance to put more varied programming on (13 episodes is a much easier commitment to make than 22). -
Man, they just let anyone back in here...
But seriously good to see you back Meph. I missed me some Jesus Saves! -
Publishers exist because the main job of a writer is to write. Not to handle the eight billion little things that come up in the process of trying to publish a book. Can you handle all of your own publicity, promotion, editing, proof-reading, and the many technical aspects of self-publishing? Sure. But doing all that, how much time does that actually leave you to write? Which is what I'm sure most writers would like to spend most of their time doing.
There are people who excel at all those other things. So let them do it. That leaves the writer the time and energy to excel at writing. -
I could see the thing with Capt. Montgomery coming from a mile away. They still played it out very nicely. The sense of betrayal amongst the detectives was very real and intense.
One hell of a cliffhanger to end the season on. How much do you think Castle's going to be kicking himself over not reacting fast enough when he kept seeing the flare from the shooter's scope? (btw, VERY sloppy sniper to allow that to happen)
It will be interesting to see what happens next. Will Beckett remember what Castle said? Or will they go on playing it off like it didn't happen? They've set themselves up nicely for next year. Well done. -
Network shows are a joke. They have zero balls to actually put something different on, and then give it a chance to find its legs. I can count on one hand the number of network shows left that I actually watch. I much prefer what the cable channels are doing. HBO, Showtime, A&E, FX, USA are all putting out better products than the networks.
I miss the days when they actually would give shows time to find their legs. Some of the best shows started out rather weakly, and were given the time to find their voice and their formula. Networks don't have the patience for that anymore, and the quality of programming in general suffers for it. -
Grats to Rip!! Was wondering why I hadn't seen him around much lately.. it all makes sense now...

Astrid with curly hair is very attractive.
Great finale. Loved how they wrapped things up. The sheer contempt that the two Walters have for each other was just palpable. Amazing how John Noble pulled that off.
And I agree, Fringe is quite underappreciated. Its one of the few shows out there with some balls, that actually takes some risks, and is constantly monkeying with its status quo. I can't wait for next season. -
IMAX 3D ftw. Great movie. Very fun. The cast is excellent all the way around. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston slam-dunked Thor and Loki. I enjoyed how much Thor just loved being Thor.
My son already wants to know if we can go see it again. He keeps walking around the house, holding his hand out, and going "Hammer! Hammer!" Reminds me of me trying to use the Jedi mind trick when I was his age. -
Tomorrow. IMAX in 3D. Can't wait. My son wants to take his hammer to the theater.

I'd want the power to be able to kill anyone anywhere just by thinking about it.

I've been fortunate enough to meet Walt Simonson at a few conventions. He's one of the more engaging and funny creators I've had the chance to talk with. Great sketches too. He did an Odin sketch for me that was just awesome until I lost it in a fire. Damn fire!!

If you're going to Blast, you must develop your wuss-fu into a strong and mighty thing.
And good choice on the Inv/SS tanker. My first, best, and favorite toon. -
Fun time. Got some good righteous smashing in. Always good to get out and run with the big dogs.
