In case you missed it in the other thread, until further notice, I'll not be hosting anymore msrs. This includes the 2xp weekend.
-
Given tonights lackluster attendance at the scheduled well in advance MSR, I will no longer be hosting any msrs until further notice.
This includes 2xp weekend. I've no idea how long the "shiny" of DA will last, and I have better things to do than to sit at point du hoc and wait for people to finish iTrials that could have been run at non-conflicting times.
I don't blame anyone other than issue 22 - not everyone has the system to handle an msr, not everyone enjoys an msr. Those that work may understandably prefer to do the new content.
I can no more blame those that lead iTrials preceding the msr than I can those that attend those same iTrials.
I've forgotten about msrs myself before. Things happen.
You'll want to thank @Xtreme Raze for leading an MSR, I can only guess after one of the MoDD trials was completed. -
Quote:I guess what makes it bad is the fact that the end recovery will be impacted when they make the adjustment to correct it. Then, I'll have to respec, which I don't particularly enjoy. Not sure how buying something off the market that works better than the stuff in game is a bad market experience. The fallout if they get changed or pulled off the market will be a bad experience no matter what they do.
Hmm, I guess I can just burn an unslotter and put in the regular kind, just hate to level up a toon, expecting to have a certain amount of end, and then, all of a sudden, i won't. -
I would love to see CoH plunk down some cash to Mids' creator, and whoever else designed the software. It really irks me that they have made a section of the forums for mids' builds, the red names themselves use it - it obviously has value - yet CoH hasn't put out their own version or bought it and made it part of the game.
In tough times like we have now, it's very cool to see that there are some people who play around with code because they enjoy it - at least on some level.
The written word is a wonderful thing - but it can lack intonation, inflection and pitch. So, it's tough to say who's whining, who's complaining, if anyone.
Suffice it to say, when it's ready, it's ready. It's part of the reason I usually wait a few months before I even consider trying the new powersets. Heck, I just did start to level up a dark/dark blaster and a Street Justice brute. I have plenty to keep me busy until the next update. -
It is a challenging phase, no doubt. I've done this one on my blaster, my scrapper, my emp defender and my grav/kin and ill/rad troller.
The grav/kin is the hardest for me. I do remember to dismiss Singularity prior to porting in. But remembering to buff just prior to the spawning of Shalice can be problematic when trying to rez people (temp powers, yay) and position myself properly and monitor league chat and then spam single target immobs and holds. But, not all teams are created equal and sometimes the heals are needed to keep the team going, so it's a quick tab or two over to get the right heal in. It can be tough.
That being said, level shifts also make a big difference in this trial. You definitely don't want to leave without debuff or a kin, or preferably both.
Sadly, our player base tends not to play the game with keen eye focused on the screen, but with an ice cold pint of beer, ice cream or both. Easily distracting consumables. -
Quote:Actually, since I'm sure the other readers would like to know, I was in fact mistaken about who was doing the double boxing. In this case, it wasn't you. But, you aided in the cover up.You must be mistaken me for someone else...I don't "cover-up"...I'm very public with my dual boxing...I.E. HAMI RAID!!!
And just out of curiosity, why would you dual box (pad) and quit? Like you are stealing merits from someone?..Oh what, they all get same...Guess padding and quitting is what the envirormentalist players do to save energy, other than that I would say it's STUPID to pad and quit as you are actually WASTING merits, but that's just me...
Cheers
<eyes wide shut>
It was a Manticore task force and we had 7 players, the bare minimum. I was the last player, or second to last player to join.
Three of the other players were @kobato, @obsidian ram and yourself. @kobato's character had the star. The other 6 of us were in the map. The first mission was completed and the leader never made it to the mission. Well, real life happens, I get that. I waited. Half way through the 2nd mission, I ask the leader if he is ever going to get to the mission.
You replied with "Oh, he's taking a break for now." (or words very close to that)
A break from what? Then it occurs to me that based on your comment that you were trying sneak the dual boxing by the team - otherwise, you'd have mentioned it up front.
To be fair - you didn't have the star, @kobato (who is also @Obsidian Ram did) Still - instead of "taking a break", I would have expected someone like yourself to say "hey, we got tired of waiting for a 7th, so one of us is going to bring on an alt."
But, this was not the case. Both alts were on the team before I joined it. I cannot be certain, but seeing as the alt that wasn't being played had the star, I firmly believe that there was never a thought about NOT dual boxing, regardless of wait time for the team to form.
So sir, you see, I consider you dishonest. Do what you like on your own, but when you team with others, be up front about what you're doing.
For the record, it is not dual boxing that I have an issue with, it is the shameful way in which it was done. -
Quote:And yet dual boxing by others to fill a TF is bad? Double standard much?
Dual boxing to fill a task force is fine. Dual boxing to fill a task force and keeping said toon on that task force (instead of having that toon quit) and not disclosing said fact to the team before hand is not fine. At least not fine with me.
And note that I said if worst comes to worst - -meaning that it is, in fact, a worst case scenario. It is not what I would want to do, but if the player base can't come up with 6 level 50's and only comes up with 5, I'll ask someone to volunteer to switch to a 50. If no one does, I'll let people know up front that my level 50 will remain at point du hoc and moved only occasionally to prevent afk-logging off. There will be no "oh, that toon is taking a break" cover-up/flat out lying about what I'm doing. Not like you, sir.
And, if there are only 4 50s, I just won't lead it and find something else to do. -
if worse comes to worst, I'll bring my alt account on just to let 7 others play - but I think I'll be bringing my emp or my kin. Probably the emp. The emp has rez, where as the kin does not.
Honestly, I don't see this as being that big of a deal. I'm going into it expecting it to be challenging. If we wipe, we wipe. Not that big of a deal, I'll be on my 50, which makes debt meaningless. :P
Noy will be leading the later raid that evening, so that's when some may get an evil eye.
I've got a level 46 earth/cold troller that needs some overdue attention. I'll find some way to get all my toons the attention they need. -
Let me explain.
I just happened to check the paragon market and found that they were selling perf shifters. They were on sale, too. So, I got 4. 280 points. Didn't have anything else pressing to spend the points on, so why not.
I pull one from the e-mail and see that these perf shifter procs to do NOT work the same way as the ones that I can buy from wentworths. They only work 3 times a minute. Now, I haven't tested it to see if this will work just fine, but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't work nearly as well as the one I can get through merits or wentworths.
I think that when I buy other products like lotg 7.5% from the market and they buff recharge the same as in game procs, I expected this proc to work the same as the one in game.
So, let my bad experience be a lesson to be learned by all - before you buy anything, go to beta, buy it and look at it first. Because these people are simply not to be trusted. -
Quote:I think Tony has brought forward some things to ponder in an eloquent matter. Others have also made some solid points. If you have a more difficult path to something and a less difficult path to something, people will flock to the less difficult path.
(bunch of other good stuff! scroll up and read if you missed it!)
So seriously, because I'm sure the devs would love an answer to the question themselves. How would you deliver on that rich multi-player experience? How do you make people want to team up without gating stuff behind team-oriented content? How do you keep City of Heroes from becoming a single-player game with a few multi-player features tacked on as an afterthought?
I think that our player base is a broad spectrum, a diverse group. Different ages, different socio-economic factors, etc.
The only way I think to assess how people will react to any given change is to look at similar changes in the past and see how things went.
Let's take a look at the iTrials. When BAF, Lambda and Keyes came out, I think it's safe to say that most preferred to do BAF. Why? For me, it's because it was fairly straightforward. There weren't many hoops to jump through to get the reward, unlike keyes - which initially, was an exercise in jumping around avoiding green death rays and a lot of repetition.
With a diverse playerbase that includes 6 year olds playing on their father's right side and single mothers that have asserted control over the account because their child has out grown the game, or no longer finds it fun for some reason and unemployed people who have a lot more free time than they'd like, answering the question is going to be different.
I'm thrilled for the solo path, because when I'm sort of tired and grumpy, I don't have to herd the cats. What an appropriate description that is sometimes! On my server, it would seem if I want to do an iTrial, or team,
I have to look through the global list and see who's solo and would like to come along. Invariable this will be 1 to 4, leaving me with having to fill the rest.
Because zone story arcs and tip missions don't have any greater significant reward at the end when teamed as opposed to solo, there is nothing that motivates me to put up with the recruiting delay.
And its more than just a recruiting delay -there's an incredible amount of "wife aggro", "baby aggro", "gotta put the kid to bed", "roommate tried to commit suicide", etc. On some teams, a teammate sitting out for a minute is not that big of a deal. Other times, because of bad team composition, a tank can make a bad team pretty good. Sadly, not much can be done about recruiting delay, except maybe have the contact assemble all members of the team to the first mission door, but nifty as that would be, it doesn't solve the problem.
We have met the enemy, and the enemy is us. There is no greater obstacle to teaming in this game than the player. We each have our goals for our characters. If there's "nothing in it" for our character to make us "feel" like teaming at that time, then there's not gonna be any teaming at that time.
For most (definitely not all players) forced teaming would be like summer camp. You wouldn't want to go, but once you got there and got in a routine and made some friends, you'd have some fun. Probably more fun than if you stayed home. (solo) However, there are always a few who are mal-adapted and just can't team up. Bad/old computers, physical maladies which inhibit game play in the typical manner, mental deficiencies, etc. are all reasons for some people not teaming. If it were forced, those people would likely become frustrated and quit. -
Quote:After much thought, and getting bored (already!) with new DA, I'm up for a superteam starting in goldside.I do still think we should get something of a Praetorian superteam together. Those of us that don't have a Praetorian toon, or that want another and can't stand stuffing through the good, albeit slow content.
With the new powersets out, Praetoria would give us a good chance of learning them, instead of DfB > DiB runs I'm sure are going to be all over the place. Maybe start Friday when people get off work, or something so that it dont end up interfering with Scrapper Saturday.
What do you guys think?
I have 3 brand new level 1's that I made ahead of time, so they can accrue the patrol xp, and I'm in the process of crafting the IOs I like for all my lowbies to have until they get to blue side.
First ward is fine by me-- but only if I go blue side and join my sg first, which I'm pretty sure I can. -
I would like to see a small bar, similar to my xp bar, that would show my iXP progress - without having to click on powers, incarnate, equip.
Something that stays out, like my health and endurance bar. -
I think that players vary on how they look at someone quitting a task force.
I used to think it was just unthinkable to leave a tf before it completed. I have done enough tfs to know how long it should "normally" take. However, one version of normal is different from another.
I am used to posi 1 and 2 taking less than a half hour each. However, team composition and player attitude don't always make for that short of a time. Sometimes you have lower level toons instead of exemped level 50's, and trust me, those slots make a big difference!
I think the best way to avoid having to quit a tf is to
1. Look at the team composition. For example: A team with a kin is going to move faster. A team with no buffs is going to faceplant, on average, more than otherwise.
2. Communication. Always ask if it's a speed run or fight through, or a kill all. Explain your time constraints, if any.
3. Rate your teammates play -- then make comments in the add/edit notes section. Mention whether they played fast, slow, lots of afk time, whatever the case may be. Jot down the tf and the date.
I say this so that next time you do a tf, if you run across that player, you'll have some knowledge (more than previously) about what you're getting into.
Nowadays, it's really not as big of a deal as it used to be. With IOs, recharges are faster, regen rates are higher. All said it done, the content is simply easier than it used to be. So, when someone quits nowadays, it really isn't that big of a deal. There are some teams that might particularly miss a tank, or a debuffer, but since task forces generally don't have time limits, a team can choose to log until that person that had to leave came back. (not everyone comes back when they're supposed to either. Real life happens)
Too tired to write anymore, but in summary, I wouldn't sweat it.
Just don't make it a habit. -
Riius,
As you know, I did a little tweaking of my own, and e-mailed it to you.
However, after reading what ClawsandEffect wrote, I think he's right.
I typically go a little overkill on defense, and his comment about balance has got me rethinking some of my builds.
Fortunately, I have one caveat - I never leveled a WP anything before, which I told you before I fiddled around with a build. These folks in here definitely have you on the right track.
Now, if they'd just release those enhancement converters to live, it'd be a lot cheaper to make a lot of those IOs. -
Thanks, but a macro wouldn't copy across to all my characters.
-
Have we been told, or is there a nifty /command that I can use to replace the combat attributes I like to monitor on my characters that will work the same way /wdwsave and /wdwload does?
Getting rather annoying having to reset all the attributes I like to monitor. -
Silly people! That post of mine was two weeks ago.
-
Ok, which dev was the grinch that stole the converters?
-
I suspect that there will be the download/update and then a lengthy time for maintenance, just like always. Not much point to having two seperate patches.
-
Honestly, I think a lot will depend on how you carry yourself while playing that toon. You start trash-talking America (or the West in general) or the Christian faith, then yeah, someone will be filing a petition.
But the name itself isn't even going to raise a ripple. It's just as meaningless as every other name out there. It's your "role play" that may be an issue.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong. -
Quote:Sorry Noy - you may have misunderstood. I was suggesting 6 in total - one level 50 to lead each team. The use of buffs and debuffs would almost be mandatory - a SSK'd toon to level 49, against a level 54 Elite Boss is going to be either a very long fight, or a very quick one, with the level 49 losing without them.6 per team would be a dream. I'd be happy to see atleast 4 per team, 1 per team being a buffer or debuffer.
You know this, I know this. But many of our playerbase have never heard of the purple patch. And they rarely look at league chat, because they're too busy drooling over their xp bar, watching it move.
I could be wrong, I very often am. But I have a strong suspicion that we'll have several players that show up with lowbies - but will be only too glad to switch, provided they can get back in zone.
And this is why they'll want to be sure to come with their higher level toons initially. (they may not get back in!)
People like Mystic Fortune and Tax E have both already expressed they're not concerned with XP, so that *could* be a couple of players that would show up. At a minimum, I suspect that their thinking is not very different from many other players. Should be a little shaky, but once in the bowl, all should be fine. -
Obviously, the extra numbers, in my case, are to answer the age-old question after each patch: "Did they nerf accuracy?"
Monitoring ToHit chance, smashing defense and numbers like that are found by clicking on Powers (on default setting, the first word on the top left of your power trays) and then Combat Attributes.
The utility of this -- let's say you're on a Master of Task Force. If you see your resist or defense numbers go red, it may be a good time to either run away, or call out for assistance. (or mash purples and oranges until your numbers look better)
This kind of diligence is certainly not used by everyone. And for the most part, we could all play our game easily enough without it. But, in certain situations, (ugt) the details are more than just handy. -
I'm thinking it would have had to be(arc/badge requirement) removed. The short time I spent on Beta was doing that trial with you - and we succeeded. And my character hadn't done any of the other content.
-
For me, some of it is helping new VIPs with a few token goodies to let them know what's out there. A stealth proc, a kismet accuracy, a kb proc, a little stack of inf to help them on their way.
But, a larger part of it is this is an MMO. I like to solo my story arcs, but for task forces and iTrials, these are with other people. I feel like if I'm going to team with someone else, I owe it to them to make my toon as well as I reasonable can.
Mind you, I'm not saying I'm going to stand by a pylon and see which attack chain is going to provide the most dps. But, I do think it's incumbent upon me as a team player to have as much defense for my toon, balanced with whatever my toon may be good at. For my blasters, I want most of them soft-capped, with no end issues and fast recharge. That doesn't mean that every player with a blaster should aim for that. The ability to make toons with the same powersets differently, and to play them differently is part of the charm of this game. But, for me, perf shifters, lotg 7.5% global recharges, miracle procs, etc - they are a part of what I, as a player owe to the team I play with. They aren't cheap. At least, they weren't, until those super-packs came out. -
There's a simple solution, and it's likely to be inflammatory for some. Because vanguard merits aren't earned until level 35, there are several folks who feel that the msr should be only for members of Vanguard - those with the badge that entitle them to be able to earn Vanguard Merits.
Simply, politely ask them to switch to a toon level 35 or higher.
And, obviously, without at least 6 level 50s to lead each team, the msr can't really happen with any degree of fun - unless some would count team wipes as fun.
