And, oddly enough, in some coins.

As an aside, it turns out some folks are allergic to nickel, and can get dermatitis from handling coins. Who knew?

Personally, I couldn't agree more. I never said *I* would risk my own IP here. But then, architectural plans don't really translate to this environment so I really have nothing to risk.

The argument makes sense. I think, though, you're missing a key point: Writers mostly have their heads full of ideas, which means it's very hard to find an idea that isn't either already in use, or likely to be worth using later. So even if you just go create a new character, a month later you've got a good idea for a novel with that character in it...
Exactly. If an established author comes up with a character concept on CoX, then ended up wanting to write about said character, that could be a lot more 'thorny' from a legal standpoint.

Not to mention that when your work is to write creatively, sometimes you don't want to be creative in your 'hobby time'.

Companies write EULAs like this one mainly to protect themselves. In NCSoft's case, it helps them defend lawsuits like the Marvel one. While it might seem to let them take ownership of a character, in reality using it that way would be far too expensive. Would NCSoft really want to spend millions to gain the property rights to, for instance, Harry Dresden? It's just not something that'd be profitable for them in the end.
  5. Ummm ... did anyone else understand *any* of that? I gather an ITF was involved...

    Talk about a "WTF?" moment...

    So...the Website

I guess whatever change they made simply hadn't propagated - all us "Gotta be on NAO!" folks were stressing.

I haven't tried with Vista (the only machine I had with Vista got upgraded to XP right away) or Win7 but it's been problematic on every OS I've run since Windows 95 (95, 98, NT, 2k, XP)
Yeah, that's pretty much been my experience as well. Just thought I'd see if it'd gotten any less ... problematic.
  10. So bummed. Stupid laptop died yet again. While I could theoretically ship it back to the guy who fixed it before and get it fixed again under warranty, it's not really fair to expect him to do that. Not his fault that it's a carpy design.

Ahem. Anyway, enough angst. If I build a new system, is it even possible to use the perfectly good hard drive from my doorstop? Or is Windoze Vista still going to decide that I'm trying to illegally copy it and nuke itself? It's been a long time since I've tried anything like this.

Granted, I can install it as a second drive and not have to reinstall CoX that way, but given my current financial situation it'd be *really* helpful to save the $200-ish I'd put into a new drive and new OS.

So in short, no, I've never deleted a 50.
Been playing 42 months or so, and my main is -> <- that close to 50. So no, haven't deleted a 50 - I'd have to *have* a 50 first...

  13. If Group Fly is a click, what happens if the group is flying somewhere and the GF-granting toon forgets to 'click' when the first runs out? No, this really *needs* to be a toggle, or if it's a click it needs to be made durationless - i.e., it lasts until you 'land' (or are forced to land by getting hit with a -fly effect)

Hmm, never thought of that! Learn something new, etc.

I find myself using the auto-complete feature liberally in both instances. Hunting groups is great for newer players to see the zones, but after 3+ years 'Defeat 30 warwolves' and so on draws an immediate auto-complete from me.

Shouldn't let you have two accounts with the same user/pw combo. I think you're going to have to get with Customer Support to straighten this out, but they should be able to fix it for you easily as it happens all the time. Yes, I did the same thing once upon a time.
  17. For me, the Hollows Trial is a must-do-once thing. Love the maps.
  18. My suggestion? Invest in a good laptop cooler. I just bought this and it brings my GPU temps down by about 10-12 degrees C when running CoX.

  20. This is one of the reasons I like doing the Hollows trial. I remember the first time I did it - about 8 months ago. I'd been playing three years and like many of you had most of the maps and spawn points memorized. So the maps on that Trial came as a pleasant surprise.

I would like to apologize to you and everyone else on that team for my lack of experience, and my arrogance-turned-bad situation that cost us many, many deaths in something that should NOT have been that difficult.
It's nice to see a post that owns up and apologizes without blasting others, and without 'woe is me' dramatics. For the record, obviously I wasn't on that team but it seems from here that you were not at the top of this particular problem-causing totem pole.

Anyway, sounds as though at least you learned something from the experience, and that's never a bad thing.

EDIT: I'm being light-hearted (which is tough for a dinosaur like me ) and I hope that's obvious, but if it isn't, I'm not implying that Katie V *was* at or even near the top of the proverbial totem pole. When I reread my post I thought it could possibly be taken that way.

It's gonna depend upon the manufacturer. Most of them will use something reasonably available since it's cheaper for them. Sometimes it'll be a stock drive but you'll have to reuse the little plastic piece on the front since it's shaped to fit the contours of the specific laptop case design.

Is it still under warranty? I'd start by calling customer support for that laptop and see if they have a parts 'guy'. They may be willing to ship you a new drive and let you install it. Some manufacturers would freak out about that, others will be OK with it.

I like my TA/A *far* more on a team. After I lay down debuffs, the mobs are dropping so fast I barely have to shoot damaging arrows, so I don't much miss the damage buff.

FYI, existing cable/satellite customers can sometimes get new customer rates. The amount of whining, kvetching, and asking for the manager will vary widely. I recently did this with my cable company and lowered my bill considerably.

Of course it may have helped that I'd just been laid off. They were very understanding and helpful.

Cell phone companies are another matter, since most folks probably bought into a long-term contract when they started their service, so there is much less incentive for their carrier to 'deal'.
